Time for our weekly Sky Sports Focus article where we cast an eye back at the previous weekend’s action before preparing you for the incoming Gameweek.

We’ll examine the recent run of Man of the Match (MoTM) awards, the bonus point beneficiaries, transfer trends and Watchlist, before moving on to the Scout team and our future plans.

Gameweek 11 Man of the Match Awards

These were the players who caught the eye of the Sky Sports reporters and earned an extra five points as a result.

FixtureMoTM
West Ham vs BrightonGlenn Murray
Chelsea vs WatfordMichy Batshuayi
Newcastle vs Crystal PalaceDeAndre Yedlin
Man City vs BurnleyKevin De Bruyne
Huddersfield vs Man UnitedAaron Mooy
Swansea vs LeicesterRiyad Mahrez
Stoke vs BournemouthJunior Stanislas
Southampton vs West BromSofiane Boufal
Everton vs ArsenalMesut Ozil
Tottenham vs LiverpoolHarry Kane

Kevin De Bruyne was once again the headline act for Manchester City. Similar to Phillipe Coutinho last season, he seems to be able to pick up the award despite numerous team-mates also excelling.

With the Belgian also avoiding rotation in the Premier League so far, he offers a cheaper and more consistent captain pick than either of City’s frontmen.

De Bruyne and Harry Kane now lead the MoTM standings, with four apiece.

Aaron Mooy continues to stand out as a budget pick. His monopoly on the awards (three so far) was signposted pre-season, and he has not let us down, sitting ninth overall for midfielders.

Gameweek 11 Bonus Points

Let’s take a look at any player to earn 11 points or more in bonus for the season.

members

Four of the top six spots are taken by Man City players as Pep Guardiola’s emphasis on passing continues to exploit the bonus system.

Fantasy Football Scout members can access all information regarding bonus points using player stats and clicking the Sky Sports tab.

Here I aim to highlight a few differential players with low ownership who I think could be good options for the coming six weeks.

Three specific price brackets will be used to cater for our available budgets.

The players will evolve with fixtures and form, and offer Fantasy managers a nudge in the right direction.

Notes

A rather severe drop in rank this week – my third dip in a row – signals alarm bells for my side.

It’s easy to pinpoint the error of my ways. A lack of Man City players has been devastating, while faith in the likes of Eden Hazard and Jamie Vardy has been misplaced so far.

I’m considering a mini-overhaul, but will try to stagger it somewhat to take advantage of extra players by changing them mid-Gameweek, starting with Fraser Forster to Nick Pope (5.5) on Monday night.

Forster has been a very good source of points for me, in fairness. He’s the second highest scoring keeper in the game, but something has to give in order to raise some much-needed funds.

With Pope churning out saves in a decent defence and Southampton’s fixture swing on the horizon, the move makes sense.

I have also strongly considered Julian Speroni (4.9) and might still go in that direction, but the lack of a Monday night captain is edging me towards Pope at present.

Richarlison, Kevin De Bruyne, Nicolas Otamendi, and possibly even Wilfried Zaha, may enter my side in the coming weeks as I go on the attack.

It’s all about how long I can hold off.

The only reason I had Vardy was to cover captains, and it feels too early to bail on him when Leicester City have some preferable matchdays coming up.

Likewise, with Hazard, I only recently brought him in and believe he will start to rack up points. But how long can you wait while players like De Bruyne (for 0.3 less) are out-performing him with ease?

I could yet just throw caution to the wind and bring in all five players mentioned above, foregoing several captains along the way.

I need scented candles and a lie down.

Captain Plan

Sat 28th – Coutinho (HUD)
Sun 29th – Vardy (EVE)
Mon 30th – Pope (NEW)

    The Big Question

Play Team A with a minus 8 (current team)

Or Play Team B as a free hit

    A:
    Elliot
    Alonso Cedric Kolasinac Otamendi
    Salah Richarlison Gross Sterling
    Morate C-Lewin

    Fab Carroll Kane Mbemba

    B:
    Elliot
    Otamendi Mee Walker or Bellerin
Salah Sanchez Richarlison Sane Mahrez or Silva
    Morata Firmino

    Pereira Mariappa Rangel Solanke

Can only have 3 city hence the two or’s

    On my WC right now:

    DDG / Elliot
    Otamendi / Daniels / Ward / Duffy / [3.9]
    Salah / Sterling* / Richarlison / Gross / Carroll
    Kane* / Aguero / Morata

    A) Sterling > Sanchez & Kane > Vardy
    B) Kane > Lacazette

Both are temporary moves, but Sanchez's stats have been incredible in the last couple of fixtures. Tough upcoming run which I may not keep him for, but same would be for Lacaztte?

Kane might not be back for the Palace game either, which might allow a simple switch back from Sanchez > [City MID]?

I’m one of only a few to already have played my free hit so feel in good place to have an opinion...
I played it gameweek 8 to cancel out making a silly -8.
I made a 42 point gain on my original team...
It won’t be for all but i can certainly can see the merits in playing it this week.
Waiting for a depleted gameweek with lesser teams may not pay off as much as a week like this..

    1. @persecuted_by_mods
        8 years, 5 months ago

It probably won't pay off as much but as with all the "optimum" times to play these things it's more about playing the odds

I agree but I'm going to stick with the plan and wait for GW 38 to play it.
        My rational is :
        (i) Bigger team value
(ii) More waffle at cost of 3.9 to augment the spend on the 11
        (iii) Highest scoring gameweek
(iv) Can focus on home teams/ teams with something to play for/ players with something to play for

I guess the trick is to not get yourself in such a state in the first place. Always have a strong bench, and never make early transfers.

Well, you still have 28 GWs to go this season without the comfort blanket of having the FH chip left. Is a bit like getting a yellow card in the first 5 minutes of a game and having to be tread carefully for the rest of the game 🙂

Think I should have enough depth to field 11 with a bit of luck:

        Elliott,
        Kolasanic, Davies, Jones, Naughton
        Salah, Richarlison, Sterling, RLC
        Lukaku, Jesus

Subs: Myhill, Mbemba, T Carroll (Kane)

Worth downgrading Lukaku to Morata and upgrading Mbemba to Mee/Maguire for -8? Would give me more strength in depth.....

Or just go with playing Naughton and RLC and hope for the best?

With Kane out I only have Morata and Abraham (which I plan to not play). Do I use the - 4 to bring in someone or hold?

        Bench one:

        A. Abraham (ars)
        B. Ritchie (bur)
        C. Kiko (STO)
        D. Maguire (EVE)

Benching A or B means playing 5 at the back and already playing Mee

If you had Sanchez this week, would you captain him over Liverpool and City assets?

I can't be the only person surprised that Kun (after playing 120 mins midweek) appears to be the "go to" replacement for Kane??

Same - Pep also basically said that he wants him to break the record at home (as well as 200 minutes in a week and two huge games in the next 10 days)

Not surprising, people will just flock to the closest price replacement.

Laca for this week, Morata if it's long term seems the go to response.

But Kun rising at 11% per hour according to fantasyfootballfix

He's not played much at all last few weeks. I doubt 120 mins 4 days before will still be hitting him

Think I'm going to play free hit this week, been a bit of an idiot regarding early transfers (on -12 and have Kane and Coutinho, silly I know).

Thoughts on this, and which pair to finish it with:

        Elliot / Speroni
        Bellerin / Mee / Moreno
        Sanchez (C) / Salah / Silva / - / Richarlison
        Jesus / - / Hemed

Best pair to fill the gaps:

        Aguero + Ramsey
        or
        Lacazette + Sane/Sterling

        Cheers in advance.

Looks like you almost have to use it. Leaning towards the Laca and City mid option, but Kun always tempting, though he could easily start on bench after midweek exertions.

Yeah, been getting away with an early transfer up until now, not really sure why I went ahead with a -12 when I haven't taken many hits thus far.

Think it could be a blessing in disguise, Sanchez up against Swansea could be a battering, which makes me lean towards the Lacazette option as well, not convinced on Sane though.

            Thoughts on Mahrez?

Of course, rotation for City players enough of a concern. Sane is balling hardcore, though, so he is very tempting. Mahrez an interesting shout. I almost forget about him these days, as he has certainly tailed off. But, seems to be worth a punt, if you will, should his price and such be of value to your plans.

        Hi everyone

        Thoughts on Wildcard?

        Pope (Elliot)
        Mee, Otamendi, Dunk (Lejeune, Cedric)
Salah, David Silva, Grob, Richarlison (Loftus Cheek)
        Firmino, Jesus, Morata

Jesus or Lacazette this week, and bring in Kane next.

RP ahaha I keep getting bottomed on articles going to be busy tonight and tomorrow so I'm finalizing my WC team now GTG lads?

        Pope
        Jones Mee Monreal
        Grob KDB Salah (VC) Sane
        Aguero (C) Lukaku Okazaki

        Subs: Elliot,Dunk,Rangel & Surman

0.9 ITB left so I can bring back Kane next GW if fit.

So tempted with the Free Hit!!

No Kane, Rotation risks in Jesus Sterling Cresswell,
Have Atsu Choupo & Lukaku who I cant see delivering!!

Also there is no guarantees around BGWs , so I think this could be the perfect storm

The blanks will be a low average score, with carfull planning & a few hits it can be achieved,
Also in last seasons FA cup Pl teams miraculously avoided each other, chances are theres at least 5 to 6 fixtures that week

4 or 5 fixtures containing the better teams is likely to wipe out over two thirds of your squad.

Any improvements on my FH team?

        Ward, Monreal, Daniels
        Salah, Sane, San(c)hez, Richarlison

Daniels is a strange pick. I think a 352 and drop Firmino, (maybe Silva?) would be better. Other than that looks good.

Yeah can literally only afford up to 4.9 for that last defender. Every penny used, so couldn't even do Firmino > Silva
