This weekend sees the conclusion of the Norwegian top flight campaign and the end to the very first Eliteserien Fantasy season.

There may be a post season article once we have absorbed some final thoughts, but for now let’s look ahead to the final weekend of fixtures as Fantasy managers look to grab points for mini-league placings and other contests.

Being the final game of the season, motivation is a big factor, so we’ll pay some extra attention to that. Also, a reminder that these are all 18:00 CET starts. Given that lineups have a tendency to show up before the deadline, eager managers may have the chance to put in place some eleventh hour changes.

MOTIVATED OR DESPERATE?

There is just a small quota of  games where teams have something meaningful to play for.

Aalesund – Strømsgodset

A home team with their backs to the wall  against an away team on a hot streak and running for Europe. This matchup has all the hallmarks of a good oldfashioned streetfight, so I’m halfway expecting cards and tackles to fly for this matchup.

The best Aalesund can hope for is to retain 14th spot and earn a relegation play off match but they are in danger of being automatically jettisoned from the top flight should 15th placed Sogndal, who are level on points, win or draw their match with Vålerenga . With three out of four of Aalesund’s starting defenders out for this clash they will almost certainly be relying on Sogndal slipping up, especially as fourth placed Strømsgodset’s form is immense.

If, as expected, Stromsgodset prevail then they could move into a European qualification place, especially if second placed Molde beat third placed Sarpsborg.

I’ll be looking to Strømsgodset’s magic duo of Jradi and Ulland Andersen scoring double-digits in this one.

Molde – Sarpsborg 08

As mentioned both these teams are in the fight for medals and looking to cling onto their European qualification places with  one eye on Stromsgodset’s result. Sarpsborg do also have a Cup final as a second chance though, and may well have a bit more spring in their step with that security blanket.

This looks a very hard game to predict the game, with Sarpsborg’s  Krepin Diatta looking a strong bet for returns.

Sogndal – Vålerenga

Sogndal are fighting for their Eliteserien survival and will need to do well and hope Aalesund slip up to move up into the relegation qualifier spot.

Given that the battle to retain top flight status could even come down to goals scored, Koomson  looks a strong prospect. Vålerenga with nothing more to play for this season, and some hard blows on transfers already, may just let Sogndal in the door here.

Any other interests?

Oh yes, the hunt is on for the top-goalscorer title.

Rosenborg’s Nicklas Bendtner has pulled ahead at 19 goals, and has stated he is eager to pass 20, making his spot in any managers team obvious as they face Odd away from home.

Chasing him is Omoijuanfo (Ohi), who is on 17 goals and must surely be disappointed to have missed a penalty in the previous round.  He does have the final game against minions Viking away to make amends and a late surge for the golden boot –  so there is smart money in putting both him and Bendtner up top in your team for the final week.

Also worth keeping an eye out for exciting prospects on benches out there who may get a final salute. Some posibilities to look for in the minutes before deadline are:

Jonathan Levi (Rosenborg, Midfielder, 5.8) – Hailed as the next Helland when he was signed this summer, he now looks to be in-line for a starting spot on the Rosenborg right wing, and has already shown some razzle and dazzle in his game. Due for his first top-flight goal, he could be a big man to punt on in the final Gameweek.

Kristoffer Velde (Haugesund, Midfielder, 4.5) – He’s had some scattered minutes of play this season and has picked up two assists for the first team so far. With 10 goals for the second team this 18 year old looks primed to impress  for his home outing against Kristiansand.

For the rest of the games, the season is over and you can look out for some gung-ho football with no worries, probably a couple of new faces and care-less attitudes, but it’s anybody’s guess what will happen in them.

And finally, a question of feedback from fellow FFS managers, leave in the comments some words on one, some or all of the following points if you could:

– Players that lived up to their hype

– Players that fell flat

– Surprises this season

– Your thoughts on the game (what works, what sucks, what chips do you hope for)?

      Adegbenro - Jradi - Koomson - Brochmann
      Omoijuanfo - Sigurdarson - Bendtner (C)

      Jonsson = Seck - Antonsen - Fridjonsson

      Wildcard team. During the frantic last 5 minutes I switched between EUA / Brochmann and Sigurdarson / Pedersen and somebody else was also in the mix. Thought that EUA doesn't start so I was ok with Brochmann but I thought I had Pedersen in my last version? Well well, let's see what happens 🙂 Thanks for the Andreassen tip Nails On Chalkboard!

    Didn't make any changes, couldn't afford to get rid of anyone I didn't want for Andersen or Sigurdarson.

    Tried to do a last minute McDermott to Jonsson for reserve keeper but ran out of time. 😀

    FKH considered putting Andreassen at centre back, but decided to put him up front instead and give Anthony his first game of the season at CB. He is honestly the most versatile player I have ever seen. Centre back, full back, centre midfielder, winger, striker? No problem. Not the most gifted player, but very professional and dedicated player. Shame to see him retire.

    Damn, I'm actually waiting for bonus-points to decide my placement in some H2H leagues and mini-leagues... this was one crazy ending.....

    For next season, whomever signs Mos from Aalesund will have a topp goalscorer for sure... to get that many goals in a bottom team that many times (including his stint at Tromsø a few seasons back) he is just magic...

    Right, I'm pumped so let's just jump into it. Team of the season votes as comment to this post, rules as follows:

    1) Must be a valid game formation
    2) simple count, player in a team equals 1 vote
    3) In event of tie, most points in game tie-breaker
    4) In event of tie again, most goals tie-breaker

    End result will also be in a valid formation.

    A bit off topic, but can I ask here? Hard to get any opinions as pages fly by on the main articles.

    Really struggling to fit in Hazard in FPL, but really want him for Eriksen.

    Sane>Ramsey + Eriksen>Hazard -4?
    Jones>Mee + Abraham>Niasse/Ayew + Eriksen>Hazard -8? (will start RLC over 3rd forward)
    Alonso>5.8 + Eriksen>Hazard -4?

    Could downgrade Jesus as well, but not many alternatives at those prices and I believe Jesus is nailed on to start midweek. Could sell Kane for Morata as well, but I don't really want to tbh.

    1. MTPockets
      8 years, 8 months ago

      The middle one makes most sense, but is Haz worth -8?
      I'd just wait a gw to downgrade Jesus and do it for free - that's probably what I'm doing although already have Morata + Alonso.

      1. Niemi
        • 12 Years
        8 years, 8 months ago

        Chelsea fixtures, Eriksen deep + poor form, price changes

        Yes, -8 is a lot. The middle one makes most sense, but would prefer -4. Can't do it with a -4 without selling someone I don't want to sell (Alonso, Kane or Sane)

        Could downgrade Jesus, but to whom? Long term I would like Morata there. There are really none good mid priced strikers this year. Vardy not worth it.

          I did Kaku to Morata yesterday, wanted to get rid of Jesus instead given rotation but needed the extra cash to get Azpi.
          Long term I don't see anyone from £6-£10m being worth it so will probably get Niasse and upgrade elsewhere. At present I prefer Hazard to Morata, but there are too many other good midfielders and a real lack of strikers.

        2. MTPockets
          8 years, 8 months ago

          Jesus - fair point you already have Abraham as 3rd fwd so would still cost at least -4.
          Personally still unsure about Haxard @ 10.6m, but if that's your plan can't see where else to find the difference, so midweek for -4 or now for -8.

            Pretty set on Hazard to be honest. Looks to be on fire at the moment and so advanced, and those fixtures for Chelsea..

            It's either B or C, can't sell Sane for -4 at the moment.

      Given all that you have done for Fantasy Eliteserien I think you can treat this as your personal fiefdom!

      I think I like second option for Mee Niasse and Hazard but maybe wait till after midweek to do as -4?

      Maybe the third if you set on this week with Monreal?

        • 12 Years
        8 years, 8 months ago

        Haha, thanks! Hazard going up and Eriksen could go down though before midweek, also much prefer Hazard's fixture.

        Could go with Monreal, although it feels wrong selling a Chelsea defender with those fixtures.. Option B would free up some more funds, which probably is a better decision long term?

        How did I end up in this position.. poor planning

    Gjertsen has 7.8 ppg this season. Wow, just wow. Only played 12 games, but it's almost half a season.

    Andersen 5.7 ppg, BBS 5.5 ppg, Helland 5.4 ppg, Bendtner 5.3 ppg, Jradi 5.3 ppg, Adegbenro 5.2 ppg, Haugen 5.1 ppg

    All other player had below 5.0 ppg or had a small sample of games.

        7.5 or 8.0. Ulland Andersen had a similar season last year after being bought by Strømsgodset midseason and he was priced at 8.0

        Strømsgodset are a way better team than Kristiansund though and more are expected from them, but Gjertsen did even better than Ulland Andersen did last year. They should probably push the prices up a bit too.

      I hadn't been active on Fantasy Eliteserien since before GW24. I couldn't believe it when I saw this guy, and the form he was in, at 4.8mNOK.

    Inaugural New Zealand champion of Elitserien Fantasy Football 😎

    Held off the seven others vying for the crown.

    I'm just trying to find someone who will be impressed by my achievement - when I told my wife I was the first ever New Zealand champion of Norwegian fantasy football I could see her imagining another life, in which she'd married someone normal.

    Really appreciate Niemi, Team Cruel, MrKlin and others for their posts and advice.

    I found that playing a game where I had heard of none of the players except Bendtner provided useful insights for playing FPL. Particularly, getting a decent team together and just sticking with it instead of trying to chase points.

    Departed from my rule for the last round seeing I had 2 free transfers and did BBS > Ohi and Bråtveit > Leciejewski. lol.

    Really enjoyed the people posting for Eliteserien on here, none of the trolling/tantrum throwing we see elsewhere, looking forward to joining in again next season. Good luck for the rest of FPL everyone.

    Poland's champion here (out of 22). But for BBS-Ohi transfer last gw, could've been in the top 400.

    Thanks to Niemi and Mrklin for all the advice.

    Regarding feedback:

    lived up to the hype:
    - The Lord, Haugen, Hedenstad.
    - also Andersen, Melgalvis, Diatta taking into account the hype on here.

    fell flat:
    - Rosenborg's midfield - too expensive for all the rotation (Jevtovic), injuries (Helland) or per game returns (Jensen);
    - expensive Odd defenders were pretty frustrating in the dgw;
    - Brann in the 2nd half of the season.

    surprises:
    - Tromsoe players - amazing fantasy returns for a team fighting relegation;
    - Gjertsen (thankfully got him early to fund Bendtner);
    - cheap defenders (Seck, Solberg, Melgalvis).

    thoughts on the game:
    - live updates were great;
    - I don't see arbitrary bonus points any more unjust than FPL's system. Sometimes a player deserves gratification despite lack of returns. Would keep it;
    - I am opposed to the chips idea. Really enjoyed the possibility of long-term planning. It won't make the game more appealing in the long run. Those less interested in the game will get bored after using their chips in the opening gameweeks anyway.

    For anyone else with Hedenstad - he didn't actually play so updated with sub.
    And a Lehne-Olsen goal credited.

      Hah, seriously? 9 points from Ryerson off the bench! Just enough to climb into top 50 in the FFS league, which I am very proud off.

    Hedenstad had his 2 points removed as he didn't play and Lehne Olsen was given Tromsø's second goal, guessing points are final now.

    Held on to finish 1st in Wales by 5 points after an average final round. Overall rank of 2962, with 1456 points.

    Very interesting first season, was about 30k overall when I played my first wildcard in GW11, made steady progress before the second wildcard ahead of GW25 gave me 5 green arrows in a row thanks to Bendtner, Jradi and the Tromsø lads.

    Agree about there being lessons to be learned about FPL, hope they don't change this game too much.

        74th in England here, could have been higher but was at least better than I'd initially expected

      167 overall. A bit disappointing considering I was 59th with four gameweeks to go, but would have taken it before the season no doubt.

      14 overfall, but not first in Norway

    – Players that lived up to their hype:
    Only knew of Bendtner & Gamst Pedersen. Never a great fan of the Lord but pleased for him doing well in Norway. Of players discussed here pre season - Mos, Ohi, Haugen, BBS, Jradi was tipped by lordkippe.

    – Players that fell flat:
    Ruud, Moa, Occean, E Gyasi, A Sigurdarson didn't live up to pre season promise, Shuaibu's run didn't last.

    – Surprises this season:
    Andersen, Stokke & Gjertsen, Knudtzon, Heintz, Tromso's late persistence.

    – Your thoughts on the game:
    Really enjoyed it. Spoiled by some of the initial pricing, but rate of price changes seemed about right. Prefer no chips. Flagging annoying but not that big a deal. Mid season moves make for a challenge. Yellow card rule is ott but that's a league thing. Stats-based forces more patience, something I need to re-apply to FPL like previous seasons and ignore groupthink.

    Thanks to Niemi, Mrklin, TC in particular for efforts. PD for running LMS. Cheers everyone for football discussion without the lols.

      Thanks a lot! And thanks even more for all The hjelp and efforts from so many of you here. Haven’t followed the Norwegian league for years, but Eliteserien fantasy made it fun to get to know the teams and players. Wish you all a great winter and good luck in fpl to those who play there too.
