Manchester United laboured to a 1-0 win over a dogged Brighton, with Romelu Lukaku blanking once more as managers’ heads turn to other big-ticket options.

Romelu Lukaku’s yo-yo ownership this season is on the fall again after a fifth failure in six matches, as a good proportion of his owners now prepare a move for Chelsea’s Alvaro Morata.

The Belgian’s blank against a determined Brighton was a big blow for the 1.3 million (24.8%) Fantasy Premier League bosses who handed him the armband, although it was perhaps telling that just 19 of the top 100 managers captained him, while 30 went for Harry Kane.

Lukaku did manage five shots, with two on target, although four of those efforts were with his head as United struggled to carve out clear-cut opportunities.

The worry is that the big striker’s downturn is now spreading to home matches. Prior to Saturday’s blank, he’d only missed out once at Old Trafford in six matches.

An upcoming trip to Arsenal, followed by the Manchester derby, might not be the fixtures for Lukaku to emerge from a slump that has seen him passed by Morata and caught by Harry Kane at the top of the forwards’ scoring chart.

Just one goal in six Gameweeks has prompted early sales ahead of a trip to Watford on Tuesday. Lukaku is the most sold asset so far, with more than 50% of those sales heading to Morata.

The possibility of more midweek minutes for Zlatan Ibrahimovic is only likely to accelerate the abandonment of FPL’s most-owned player.

Low key Pogba

If momentum is eluding Lukaku, it was very much with Paul Pogba heading into the Brighton match, with more than 380,000 new managers expecting great things from the Frenchman.

What they got were rumours of an overnight absence from the traditional pre-match Lowry Hotel meet-up and his manager insisting he wouldn’t be playing any more than 70 minutes.

And even though the midfielder ended up completing the full 90, it was a shift considerably more low-key than his explosive 12-point return from injury against Newcastle.

Not that any of that has dissuaded yet more managers from acquiring Pogba with the Watford match in mind – he’s already the fourth most popular purchase of Gameweek 14, claiming more than 13,000 new owners.

And it would seem that when he’s fit, he plays, which could be crucial in the hectic weeks to come.

De Gea stretches lead

In the continued absence of Phil Jones, any number of United defensive assets are continuing to pile on the points.

Top of the shop is David de Gea, whose ninth clean sheet (including six in seven home matches) took him a massive 18 points clear of the goalkeeping pack.

His hefty 5.8 price tag is clearly not putting off his 42% ownership – only two players are in more FPL squads – while another expensive pick, Antonio Valencia (6.7) is now just five points shy of Chelsea’s Cesar Azpilicueta in the defenders’ standings.

We can’t be sure when Jones – who dropped in price to 5.4 overnight – might return, but Chris Smalling has now made seven straight starts and costs the same as his injured England colleague, so defensive options across the budgets are still available at United.

Gross shines to claim maximum

Brighton’s biggest Fantasy success story, Pascal Gross, continued to punch above his 5.9 price tag with a five-point display Old Trafford despite failing to fetch attacking returns.

Instead, the 19.7%-owned midfielder hoovered up maximum bonus points from a display involving three key passes and five tackles won.

Gross now has 14 bonus points for the season – more than any other midfielder and matched only by Kane.

He is the fifth most signed player so far heading into Gameweek 14, just behind Pogba.

The Fantasy gods were less kind to Brighton defenders Lewis Dunk and Shane Duffy, who were equally impressive against United but received none of the rewards.

Dunk even had the ignominy of scoring the decisive own goal, his second of the season. The first came against Man City.

Meanwhile Duffy – along with striker Glenn Murray – picked up their fourth bookings and are now one shy of a one-match suspension. The “local derby” with Crystal Palace now looms for the pair, with Murray facing his former employers.

Beyond that, Brighton’s schedule is hardly accommodating – they face Liverpool and Spurs in the next four Gameweeks – though they continue to impress, while Gross’ stock will likely remain strong.

I guess with the next 2 away fixtures, you just need to keep him and captain him.

Pondering whether do do Jones & Zaha to:

    A. RLC & Alonso - with 2.1 ITB to then upgrade Dunk to a 6.5 (probably Kola, Bailly or maybe Vert or Ota but not sold on their defences) this would involve rotating starts between RLC & Niasse each week.

    B. Sané & 4.5 def - starting Sanè every week with Niasse benched. The 4.5 options are: Kiko, Zeeglar, Tomkins, Tarkowski, Hegazi, Simpson as only have exactly 4.5 & already have Mee, Moreno, Daniels, Dunk. it may even need to be a 4.4 if Sané rises tonight or tomorrow night

There are several other players who seem to offer more than Zaha For next few weeks - Alonso, Sané etc... plus RLC looks to offer just about as many points, but for a whopping 2.3m less. So it's squad optimisation more than any massive criticism of Zaha

Regarding the Man City rotation hot topic, I feel Pep says these things to distract his opposition; time and again. His answers most of the time regarding the formation and tactics are vague. Of course, he's not obliged to reveal anything to anyone. He's here to win games and not give away hints to us FPL owners and those chump journalists.

That being said, as a Jesus owner (and Kun + Jesus owner until last week), I'm gonna sell him for Morata tonight and load up on those City mids and Otamendi as my fire and forget options.

Salah is good as essential right now. But you'll need 2 trades to get him in. Unlike the other move which is a straight swap.

Also, feel Morata at home to Swansea is the kind of fixture you would want him for.

Or if you really want to go for it

Lukaku has a relatively nice fixture vs watford imo, in terms of attacking potential Watford tend to be leaky sometimes and i think this match could end high scoring. But you would want Morata long term and Lukaku vs Arsenal and City with the way José sets up his team doesn´t look inspiring. i would be incline to say yes, do that

Yeah and follow it up with Vardy out for another mid upgrade next week or that Hughes kid might be a good option in 3-4 weeks.

After a stupidly early WC in GW3 I think after 9 hits since then I am finally happy with this team. Jesus and Sterling rotation is the worry and I would like Hunemeier spot to be stronger. Also who knows what happens with Niasse and a new manager. What ye think and what would you change here?

    Pope Pereira

    Alonso Mee Kiko Dunk Hunemeier

    Salah Hazard Sane Sterling Richarlson

    Morata Jesus Niasse

Very good midfield but I'd look to do Jesus to Aguero/Kane.

Thanks at 0.0 now don't know who I would lose to make that happen.
Also I think over the season Jesus becomes more established over Kun. If some think that's crazy I understand why

you would want Wilson out soon anyway....so no

Losing Cout is a hard one from what I saw today (bits of the game) he looked really good.
Also do you have Salah or not?

Thanks. I don't have salah which is hurting!

        Current team:

        DDG Elliott
        Cedric Otamendi Daniels Mee Moreno
        Sane Coutinho Richarl Choupo RLC
        Jesus Kane vardy

I didn't jesus morata last night

Really quick turnaround in fixtures so that makes -8 seem really bad
2 * -4 and in the space of a few days you can make a lot of changes.
I will say no more Cout looks good but going without Salah could be a killer at this rate he would ( he won't of course) get close to 300.

Save FT this week then next gameweek get in Salah, what do you think?

Lukaku + TC to Niasse + Salah (+1.5m)

Do we feel Dann has now lost his place to Tomkins?

    Fabiansk / Nor
    Jones / Daniels / Ward / Duffy / Dann
    Sane / Alli / Richarlison / RLC / TC
    Kane / Morata / Lukaku
    0.1m

Yeah I can see the logic there are trying to avoid a hit and wait til Niasse can play but I would not fancy Lukaku to out score Salah this week.

Mate I've took 9 hits in the past 7 GWs so taking a hit is not a concern for me haha! But the mid-week games could be funny and outside chance that Salah is given a rest?

I did not consider a Salah rest.
If I was a coach and a guy was on that form I would run him into the ground or at least get him off early when the game was won. But thats me who knows. And who can tell how many goals pool need to be up before the game is won 🙂
          And a I am a pool fan.

Kloop did rest both Mane & Firmino yesterday so there's a chance Salah gets a little break midweek. What a player he is for ye though. If Coutinho stays with the pace of Salah & Mane, you're in for an exciting goal filled season I'm sure. United fan here and we're playing some awful dull stuff a lot of the time 🙁

Mane has just come back from injury though and Firmino is not in any real form, hard to justify resting the player that's carrying his team.

...that's why I said outside chance. Not worth taking a hit to take out Lukaku for Salah, it can wait a gameweek.

Christensen should be mentioned more here just like Smalling he is become a really good cheaper option.
Maybe but maybe wait a week and Niasse is back unless your bench can cover it then go for it.

Is the Morata Hazard double up a good shout for the next month or so?

It’s a lot of £££ tied up especially with so many other productive, affordable midfielders at present. But their fixtures are plum and rotation shouldn’t be a major issue.

Any thoughts before the Hazard price rise?

I’m chasing so I went with that double up instead of getting Sané. The fixtures are to good to ignore for the next 13 gws.
