Rest and rotation casts a huge shadow over Wednesday’s events, until one particular Liverpool player produced 23 minutes of magic.

The Fantasy world went into meltdown when teamsheets were released, with a cast of big hitters either benched or rested completely.

Among the worst hit appeared to be the 49.0% of managers who had made Liverpool’s Mohamed Salah Fantasy Premier League’s (FPL) most owned player. The free-scoring midfielder was named only among the substitutes for the visit to Stoke City.

More than 200,000 managers made him the second most popular transfer target ahead of Gameweek 14 – trailing only Chelsea’s Alvaro Morata – while a further 8.7% handed the Egyptian the captaincy and promptly endured 67 minutes of despair until Jurgen Klopp finally introduced Salah from the bench.

The Reds had been holding on to a tenuous 1-0 lead given to them by Sadio Mane’s goal from a Dominic Solanke cross before Salah weaved his magic, hitting a brace that brought in 11 vital points – with two bonus points adding to the haul.

Mane and Emre Can provided the assists as Salah’s amazing scoring run continued. He now has three braces from the last four Gameweeks and leads the race for the Golden Boot with 12 goals.

Salah’s prodigious season is starting to assume Suarez-like proportions, and he brings the added joy of extra points from goals and clean sheets that come from a midfielder.

In a season where big-hitting attackers are suffering patchy runs or rotation issues – compounded by Gameweek 14’s events – Salah serenely glides on, putting previous Liverpool mainstays such as Philippe Coutinho, also benched tonight, and Robert Firmino in the shade.

With Liverpool looking forward to a fine short-term schedule (bha EVE WBA Bou), Salah’s ownership will surely surge above 50% for Gameweek 15, and his captaincy levels will also continue on an upward curve.

Reds defence deliver on the road

Klopp’s defence held on for a sixth clean sheet of the season, with Alberto Moreno and Joe Gomez spared rotation to start in the full-back spots once again.

The Spaniard has now started nine straight league matches, while the young England international has been involved in eight of the last nine.

Meanwhile, the Liverpool boss confirmed post-match that Ragnar Klavan missed out at the bet365 Stadium through illness.

The Stoke shut-out was Liverpool’s first away from home and with those strong fixtures to come, investment in one of this cut-price pair – they’re both currently available for 4.6 – appears attractive.

As for Stoke, they’ve now conceded 29 goals.

Only West Ham, who were thrashed 4-0 tonight, have allowed more, and the Potters have now kept just two clean sheets from their 14 matches this season.

Much as we’d like to scour the Stoke defence for cut-price options, their current form and confidence is just too weak – even in the light of improving fixtures.

70 point week just when I was thinking about dropping the wildcard. Becoming a worry that it might turn into something I use on the last week possible.

        Hoping for lots of goals.
Watford is solid offensively but does seem to concede a lot of goals to stronger sides, with Arsenal being the exception, although that was due to Arsenal's lackluster finishing in that game

Have Azpi Ward Duffy and Daniels

    A) Kiko
    B) Moreno
    C) Other????

Huddersfield have some good fixtures coming up. Also I don't "need" them to play the next 2 weeks - if I go for Kiko for example. Woried about Moreno's potential rotation.

    Salah / Sane / Sterling / Richalison
    Kane / Morata / Niasse

    Speroni / Loftus-Cheek / Mee / Francis

Drafted a team towards which I'm aiming in the next couple of weeks. * indicates players I don't currently own

    Hennessey* / Speroni
    Mustafi / Daniels / Moreno / Lowton / Mbemba
    Hazard* / Salah / Sterling* / Ramsey* / Richarlison
    Kane / Morata / Niasse*

Front 8 looks so sexy but I guess the issue with something like that is that Niasse will rarely play, realistically.

Is Rom to Morata still a genuinely appealing prospect for -4 ? I think Alvaro has been rather overhyped of late...

Yeah, for a hit I wouldn't be in to it. I still like Morata because of his price and fixtures, but you're right that he hasn't been consistent since his return from injury.

I changed my play style to be much more aggressive with hits this year. I will take punts on players if they catch my eye when I watch them, sometimes this works (Alli, Payet, Lallana) and sometimes it ends in tears (like when I brought in Denis Straqualursi for a hit, or captained Carroll in a dgw).

      A mix of both.

Some long term solid options who will score well over time and set and forget in your team ie. Kane, Salah, DeGea, Morata, Mee.

Some punts that you can move about ie. Sane, Sterling, Alonso.

Always looking for bargains too. If i get a player for a great price i will try and hold as long as possible and not make rash decisions to move him on ie. Bought Morata for 10.0, Salah for 9.0, Sterling for 8.0.

Been thinking about this a lot recently, and I think if you're an experienced, in-the-know, stats man etc (basically a non-casual) who's picking out great options (think Richarlison around GW3-5, Salah basically since the start, Daniels GW 12) then you can get more from your 'edge' by taking more hits.

It's like poker, if you know what you're doing then you can easily make money by playing like a rock, but once you've been playing for years and know the game inside out, you can make MORE money by playing a more loose, aggressive style.

    Pope/Elliot
    Ward/Simpson/Moreno/Kenny/Mariappa
    Silva/Hazard/Salah/Zaha/Richarlison
    Kane/Morata/DCL

Is it worth Silva -> Sterling/Sane?

Elliot and Bavies to Henny and Christensen done... might regret this in the long run.

Bavies fall didn’t affect me because I got him at 5.6. There was the risk Christensen might’ve risen and I had exact funds, so I pulled the trigger.

Well he’s played back-to-back games and has good fixtures coming up. Annoyingly I have Krul, so I’m not covered if there’s rotation 🙁

My move sterling to zaha was and probably will be the worst of the season. 17 points lost at this moment. All because of Niasse. Damn you

I have 1m in the bank. Debating doing Gross to Richarlison after Spurs as Watford's run is amazing after that for about 7 games. Thoughts?

Just worried about Pep's constant "I'm smarter than everyone" tinkering and Chelsea's supposedly easy fixtures into January

Morata outscores Jesus for the rest of the season imo. Think long term.

Vardy Kane up front. Hazard,Salah + 3 others in midfield. Forget Morata. Rise up them ranks. Morata is absolutely shocking.

Hazard is plenty for Chelsea attack. Morata's funds better spent around the squad. Morata is a trap I tell you.

Haz has more competition with other mids. Morata doesn't unless Giroud goes on one of his runs with Laca injured, or Lukaku figures it out.

Vardy is well priced at 8.5 to partner Kane. Good fixtures to come and allows for a strong midfield and defence. Hazard is in fantastic form, Morata never was. Stoke game was a fluke with their injuries.

People selling Sané and people buying Sterling when Sané was sick and probably wil be back as Sterling now played 3 games within a week and is overdued a rest. Logic, as the 3 up front vs West Ham is Sané, Jesus and B. Silva.

There is now become a lot of players on 4yellows, and in these rotation times this could become crucial. Me having both Sané and Morata on 4, but also Duffy and some others of importance are under threath. God it feels great to at least have a bench to turn too. But difficult and stressful times it is, nonetheless-)

Honestly though like I just don't see Arsenal keeping a clean sheet. Personally think Moreno is most likely, but hard to justify that.

Moreno won't start. Robertson long overdue a game with CL next week.
