Rest and rotation casts a huge shadow over Wednesday’s events, until one particular Liverpool player produced 23 minutes of magic.

The Fantasy world went into meltdown when teamsheets were released, with a cast of big hitters either benched or rested completely.

Among the worst hit appeared to be the 49.0% of managers who had made Liverpool’s Mohamed Salah Fantasy Premier League’s (FPL) most owned player. The free-scoring midfielder was named only among the substitutes for the visit to Stoke City.

More than 200,000 managers made him the second most popular transfer target ahead of Gameweek 14 – trailing only Chelsea’s Alvaro Morata – while a further 8.7% handed the Egyptian the captaincy and promptly endured 67 minutes of despair until Jurgen Klopp finally introduced Salah from the bench.

The Reds had been holding on to a tenuous 1-0 lead given to them by Sadio Mane’s goal from a Dominic Solanke cross before Salah weaved his magic, hitting a brace that brought in 11 vital points – with two bonus points adding to the haul.

Mane and Emre Can provided the assists as Salah’s amazing scoring run continued. He now has three braces from the last four Gameweeks and leads the race for the Golden Boot with 12 goals.

Salah’s prodigious season is starting to assume Suarez-like proportions, and he brings the added joy of extra points from goals and clean sheets that come from a midfielder.

In a season where big-hitting attackers are suffering patchy runs or rotation issues – compounded by Gameweek 14’s events – Salah serenely glides on, putting previous Liverpool mainstays such as Philippe Coutinho, also benched tonight, and Robert Firmino in the shade.

With Liverpool looking forward to a fine short-term schedule (bha EVE WBA Bou), Salah’s ownership will surely surge above 50% for Gameweek 15, and his captaincy levels will also continue on an upward curve.

Reds defence deliver on the road

Klopp’s defence held on for a sixth clean sheet of the season, with Alberto Moreno and Joe Gomez spared rotation to start in the full-back spots once again.

The Spaniard has now started nine straight league matches, while the young England international has been involved in eight of the last nine.

Meanwhile, the Liverpool boss confirmed post-match that Ragnar Klavan missed out at the bet365 Stadium through illness.

The Stoke shut-out was Liverpool’s first away from home and with those strong fixtures to come, investment in one of this cut-price pair – they’re both currently available for 4.6 – appears attractive.

As for Stoke, they’ve now conceded 29 goals.

Only West Ham, who were thrashed 4-0 tonight, have allowed more, and the Potters have now kept just two clean sheets from their 14 matches this season.

Much as we’d like to scour the Stoke defence for cut-price options, their current form and confidence is just too weak – even in the light of improving fixtures.

My thoughts are that he doesn’t play at the weekend. Not because he’s ill, but because he’s one booking away from a suspension and he’d miss the derby if he picked it up v WHU this week.

But I know nothing, it’s guesswork

He could play Aguero, Jesus and Sterling in the derby and not think twice.

Of course he could. Like I said, what do I know? Just offering my opinion, which is that he’d prefer to have a full squad to select from for possibly the biggest game of their season...

Anyway that’s a decent team. Assuming you have Niasse/RLC on the bench if he doesn’t play, I wouldn’t be too concerned anyway

He could but most likely not judging by last night. City was lacking Sane’s wing play.

I doubt this. Any player could have the discipline to go through one game without being booked. Even Costa managed about ten games on 4 bookings last season IIRC.

It only takes one misjudged tackle. More difficult to avoid tackling when you’re in midfield (even on the wing) than a striker. I know anyone who owns Sane’s won’t like my thoughts, same as I would try to argue the case for anyone I own (and it’s always easy to make the case at City!). Let’s not forget one guy got torn apart for suggesting Azpi and Eden would be on the bench this week...

Absolutely shattered by this GW, lucky to walk away with 47 points with over a third of my budget benched. Thinking of saving this week and doing a mini wildcard next week, getting in Zeegelaar for Hunemeier and Kenny for Mags maybe and maybe Ramsey for Coutinho depending on how Cout plays.

    Goals conceded

    NEW- 9 in last 3

    whu- 11 in last 4

How could be ignore chelsea assets for next 3? Hazard Morata and Alonso could tear it up bigtime

Hey Hurrikane. I agree triple Chelsea seems a must.

What are your thoughts on Fab? He's 6.9, on all set pieces, pretty much nailed now he's had his rest. Could be better value than Hazard? Reckon Chelsea will score a lot of goals via set pieces over this period so Fab is bound to be involved.

If you're not captaining Hazard (I'll captain Salah) then at almost 11mil, is he worth it?

      1. HurriKane
        • 13 Years

hmm i dont think hazard will get rotated frequently so he's primed to start next 3

he's as good as an option as salah so i think hazard will be worth it.

dont like fabregas pick. playing too deep and has only 1 goal and 3 assists in 13 pl matches

Want rested he was ill. We don't know will he be back the weekend or not cause he's one booking away from suspension with United up next weekend.

      Why is Sterling 'not' nailed?

He played 6mins more than Sané and about 70 more than Aguerro and Jesus.

Great value after the weekend. Brilliant stats, looks back to his best. Not the most explosive (with Sanchez, Ozil, Laca the focal points) but he'll chip in with a goal or assist most weeks.

Great option 2 goals and 7 assists in his last 10 pl starts. (costs only 7m)

Seems to have ousted Holebas for his spot. I heard Silva signed him, he also has a history in Portugal so I would say Silva favors him. He's nailed on for now but that 'could' change. I say he's a safe pick

He's notably never played more than 21 games in a season or something like this, maybe thats why he was only introduced to the team now, I really don't know

Team value now 105.0 but pointless since my players are just as much at threat from rotation as the bargain basement players!

        Indeed

        5 captain fails in a row for me (4, 2, 1, 1, 1).

        Can anyone here beat that?

Yes I've only had 2 decent captain picks all year. It's crippling me

knee jerking at its best. probably sane starts and fires a brace while its sterling turn to warm the bench 😉

        Agreed

But considering how unlucky Ive been in the last 5 GWs, this is whats gonna happen

If I keep Sané, he wont start because mysteriously ‘not fit enough’, or because Guardiola doesnt want to risk him getting the 5th YC before the derby - possible right?

If I drop Sané for Sterling, it will go as you suggested

May do, along with Silva ... a few weeks ago both were the darlings of FFS

Which Would one to do with 2ft

    Hold Jesus
    Sell to fund Hazard

Unsure with city playing West Ham whether to hold off for a week. Jesus is must be due some goals, selling to bring in Kdb is sideways

All this Sané out chat is hilarious... the guy was deemed EEE-SEN-CHAL around here prior to last nights team sheet. Chill everyone!

He's the go to city option for reliability until Alexis pitches up in January

Is it too risky now to do Silva > Sterling?

Can see Silva starting and Sterling benched at the weekend....

Silva will start that’s for sure. No point predicting Sterling’s minutes.
