Next up, we bring you news of another big-money contest from our partner game Yahoo.

They are offering a bumper Premier League £4k Wednesday contest which takes in all six of this evening’s top-flight fixtures.

The contest is guaranteed to run, costs £5 to enter and is a multi-entry game, which means you can select up to nine teams. The top 200 places pay out and there’s a minimum win-back of £10, with £400 going to the first place.

Driven by Opta data, the Yahoo game has a scoring system that is ideal for members of our community on the lookout for a Daily Fantasy Sports game.

New players can sign up and claim a free £50 in credit to your account when you deposit just £5. Promo code: Fantasy50.

Also, a reminder to check out our Strategy Guide before picking your starting line-up, as this gives you a better idea of the mechanics of the Yahoo game and those players in line to benefit.

FFS Strongest XI

Thibaut Courtois – £16
Marcos Alonso – £16
Sead Kolasinac – £15
Vincent Kompany – £14
Arthur Masuaku – £12
Eden Hazard – £23
Sadio Mane – £21
Bernardo Silva – £15
Eric Choupo-Moting – £17
Mohamed Salah – £27
Alexis Sanchez – £24

We ‘re opting for Chelsea’s Thibaut Courtois between the posts at home to a Swansea City side that have scored just three times on their travels this season. The recent return of N’Golo Kante has boosted the Blues’ clean sheet potential – they have conceded just three goals in the Frenchman’s last eight league appearances. Courtois also benefits from the Yahoo scoring system, as goalkeepers earn double the number of points as defenders for a clean sheet, as well as points for wins or draws.

Marcos Alonso also comes in as we double up on the Chelsea defence. With the visitors’ top scorer Tammy Abraham ineligible to play against his parent club, Antonio Conte’s side look well on course to claim a sixth clean sheet of the season. The number one defender for shots (21), efforts on target (six) and goals (three), the left wing-back’s prospects are boosted by Swansea’s weak right flank – Paul Clement’s side sit second bottom for chances conceded (61) and crosses conceded (153) down that side of the pitch.

The home form of Sead Kolasinac is too good to ignore as Arsenal welcome Huddersfield to the Emirates. In front of his own supporters, the Gunners’ summer signing has produced a goal, three assists and four clean sheets in just six appearances. Given that the Terriers have failed to score in their last five road trips, he looks poised for further points this evening.

Priced at £14 to team-mate Nicolas Otamendi’s £16, Vincent Kompany offers a budget-friendly route into Manchester City’s defence for the visit of Southampton. At home, the league leaders only have three clean sheets in six, yet they have allowed fewer shots (36) than any side. Up against a Saints outfit with three away strikes to their name, another shut-out seems likely. If Pep Guardiola opts against handing Kompany a third straight league start, Eliaquim Mangala is identically priced to the Belgian.

We’re also drafting in West Ham’s Arthur Masuaku as David Moyes returns to former club Everton tonight. Costing just £12 and fielded on the left wing against Leicester City last time out, the Frenchman looks a very handy budget out-of-position option. Masuaku has only started three times this term, but has averaged 5.6 Yahoo points when named on the Hammers’ teamsheet, despite conceding eight goals in those fixtures. He supplied more crosses (eight) than any team-mate against the Foxes and has already delivered two assists.

Eden Hazard is our preferred Chelsea attacker for the Swansea encounter. The Belgian comes in slightly cheaper (£23 to £24) than his team-mate Alvaro Morata and has bettered him for both shots on target (nine to six) and goals (three to two) over the previous four Gameweeks. No player has created more chances than Hazard’s 12 over that period, highlighting his potential for assists against the Swans.

Handed just a single minute off the bench against Chelsea on Saturday, Sadio Mane looks set to return to Liverpool’s XI for the visit to Stoke City. Although he’s only scored three times this season, Mane’s impact has been dented by injuries – assessed against last term, his minutes per shot (from 39.3 to 30.4) have improved, while his minutes per goal (172.3) is exactly the same. The Senegal international has a goal and two assists in his previous two away matches in all competitions ahead of the trip to the bet365.

We’re taking a punt on Bernardo Silva for Manchester City’s home match with Southampton. As the winter schedule accelerates, Pep Guardiola may well freshen up his options this evening and turn to the summer signing from Monaco, who has played just nine minutes in the last three Gameweeks. Silva has a goal and assist in 120 minutes over his previous three at the Etihad and faces a defence with a single clean sheet in eight.

Listed as a midfielder in Yahoo, Stoke’s Eric Choupo-Moting continues to be stationed up front by manager Mark Hughes. The Cameroon international sits fourth overall for shots inside the box (19) in front of his own supporters and has produced two goals and three assists in his previous five at the bet365. Choupo-Moting entertains a Liverpool side that have conceded 16 times on the road – that’s the joint-worst away defence in the league.

With more shots (18) and efforts on target (10) than any player over the previous four Gameweeks, Liverpool’s in-form Mohamed Salah looks set to torment Stoke’s porous defence. The Egyptian struck his tenth goal of the season against Chelsea last weekend and now goes head-to-head with a side that are conceding an average of two goals per league match. The Potters have allowed 22 chances down their left at home – second only to Watford (23) in fewer matches – which only strengthens Salah’s prospects on the Reds’ right flank.

Alexis Sanchez completes our line-up for Arsenal’s home clash with Huddersfield. Three goals in his last five suggests that the Chilean is finally back in form as he looks to continue a remarkable scoring record that has harvested 17 goals in 18 appearances against newly-promoted clubs. David Wagner’s side have shipped nine goals in their last three road trips, which included visits to Swansea and Bournemouth.

As Yahoo allows late swaps up until each kick-off, our listed line-up may well be subject to change as rest and rotation start to come into play.

This Evening’s Contests

In addition to the Premier League £4k Wednesday contest, Yahoo also have a Premier League £1k Wednesday contest on offer.

The latter contest is also guaranteed to run, costs £10 to enter and is a single-entry game. The top 27 places pay out – there’s a minimum win-back of £20, with £150 going to the first place.

Yahoo are running a Premier League £1,000,000 Perfect Lineup Cup, which takes place over Gameweek 1-19.

It’s free to enter, with £500 in prizes and £50 for the best team every week. Over the 19 Gameweeks, there’s £40k in prizes on offer, with £30k shared among the top 5,000 and £10k going to the winner.

The Yahoo Cup also has a “£1,000,000 challenge”, which gives away £1m to any user who selects the perfect line-up in any given Gameweek to score the maximum possible points.

You can open an account and get started immediately.

If you register and deposit £5 or more, Yahoo will also give you a £50 bonus to be used as cash to enter paid contests.

The 12.8 love doll is missing but what’s your take on this possible team?

    Courtois Elliot
    Mustafi Otamendi Maguire Dunk Tarkowski
    Hazard Pogba Sane Sterling Salah
    Morata Crouch Tammy

Starting to think that a team without Kane could do well.

i dropped him 4 Gws back, went from 1.2 mil to 290k in the first 2 Gws without. My own poor decision making has hurt me in the last 2 Gws concerning rank, not Kane. However, I feel like in the upcoming period I should go up quite quickly with a more balanced team

It’s a big step down if one of your main players get injured.

Personally I like having a choice of playing one of ... two 4.5 defenders and two 4.5 mids to rotated to get the best fixtures ... as last pick of the game

    Courtois | Elliot

    Otamendi | Jones | Moreno | Duffy | Mariappa

Risky as Sterling probably due a rest but I wouldn't let the FT burn. Keep Otamendi. If you've got Sane then you could look at Pogba

Keep Ota, he could nto do anything about that own goal. He has alot of atatcking intent, he will be nabbing goals.
And I personally would do Silva > Sterling but dont be dissappointed when/if he gets benched

Wrong to sell Elliot for -4? I think so.

Elliot / Speroni or Elliot / Krul, etc. owners, I think selling Elliot for a -4 this week is foolish, for a few reasons:

    1) Elliot has been returning 1 or 2 points the last month, so it is not like it is a major points loss on the team. He is AT Chelsea this weekend anyway, so surely owners weren't expecting more than 1-2 points.
    2) Holding one more week enables monitoring of the Elliot / Darlow rotation situation further. If it was a one-off, and Elliot is back, it will have likely been 4 points wasted.
    3) Valuable transfers at this busy Xmas stage spent on a sideways GK transfer (to Hennessey, or Pope away to LEI, etc.) may not bring immediate fruit.

I have two options as an Elliot owner with no money in the bank; sell him for Hennessey or Pope and downgrade Ward to Tarkowski or Moreno or Gomez, etc. for -4 or just save the free transfer, and evaluate next week with 2 FTs.

I am leaning towards the latter and playing one more week with 10 men. It is the risk I signed up for, and unfortunately, it has come to fruition that I don't have a playing GK but an extra week of information (for example, what is Big Sam or Pardew's preferred teams) and 2 FTs, leaves me in a better potential position than a "forced" -4.

The counter-argument is that if you think Hennessey or Pope can return an immediate 6 this weekend (at WBA or at LEI) than perhaps it is a risk worth taking. I am not too confident.

Wait till the weekend and reassess. Could just have been a mid week rest

      1. Ibracadabra

That's what I think too. It is not worth a -4 IMO to go to Pope when I already have Ward + Heaton may return, and perhaps not worth a -4 to Hennessey though I do like CP form and fixtures, when it can be done for free the following week if CP show good resilience again at West Brom.

That, coupled with more information about Pardew and Allardyce's lineups, seems to sway me to holding... of course will on depend on results and injuries from today's matches as well, but this is my current thought process.

in this situation and tbh was very surprised he was dropped. can't recall any real clangers in newcastle's poor recent spell.
big problem i have is i want gomes who has spurs this gw.
have to say i strongly doubt it will be a one-off, can't see any logic (or precedent?) in dropping a keeper for one game. think darlow will get a few games at least to prove himself, speroni style.

      1. Ibracadabra
        • 16 Years
        8 years, 3 months ago

I agree that it is unlikely Elliot will return to the starting lineup, but there is still a small chance, and that chance (coupled with the fact that he wouldn't have delivered big points AT Chelsea anyway); seems like the flexibility provided with 2 FTs rather than a -4 (can't afford a straight swap to any playing GK) seems like it makes sense to go with 10 players for one more week.

I do not recommend holding Elliot if you have a FT and enough ITB for an upgrade, I do recommend holding him if you can't afford to swap him for free to a Hennessey/Pope/etc.

Since I can't, I'd rather not take the -4 unless I see an area where I can improve my team elsewhere or downgrade, which isn't that clear...

yeah in the same scenario where it'll have to be for a -4. nightmare timing really with so many big shake-ups planned elsewhere for presumably so many. thinking to lean your way too and do it for a free *touch wood* (if he's not back in next game) the week after.

Well I can see what you want to do, but I just had enough with Elliot/Speroni. Newcastle is pooooooor. This is the time to get Courtois 😉 He can start the next 14 without any concerns. No rotation risk like Christensen, Jones, Smalling, Rojo and those priced the same. He will be the highest scoring GK over the next 13-14 fixtures, and I like him as my third Chelsea player. Do not fancy finding the funds for Azpi/Alonso.

      Doing Silva + Elliot -> Sterling + Courtois (-4)

I think this move is good but I don't have anyone in my team I'd really like to downgrade this week. It would have to be Burnley's Ward to a 4.5/4.6 defender and that seems sideways.

I think you're looking at it from the wrong angle. With no playing keeper you are throwing away points by fielding 10. Neither Palace or Chelsea will get hammered this weekend guaranteeing 2 points so at worst you're only looking at -2.

Pickford a good option under Sam

      1. Ibracadabra
        • 16 Years
        8 years, 3 months ago

I disagree, it is not just the -2, it is the flexibility to have more information to make other more preferred transfers a week later, perhaps as part of a triple switch for just a -4.

Im getting way too punty for my own good. I have Lamela (got in last night lol), Zeegalaar, Ake & then I have Foden on my bench.
Foden is a ridiculous pick in hindsight, just thought he might start getting some minutes. Does anyone else play like me? Addicted to differentials..

      Wow.....pick my lottery numbers....

I'm a huge fan of Foden though....but it's too early for him....he may get a few run outs at the end of the season when city win the title.

Nothing wrong with Ake....Daniels is preferred this year by most of us due to his attacking returns....as for the others?

i never pick a differential for the sake of being a differential - if i see a player doing well and with potential then i'll be happy to punt on him even if he's not fashionable/popular - but thee needs to be some basis, ie Gross and Richarlison about 10gws ago

Lamela i'd be worried about number of starts, would wait until he's a proven starter, if i had any interest

Ake is fine, just an alternate to Daniels, had good fixtures (changing soon)

Foden - as you said lol

Zeegalar - fine if he holds his place (i have Kiko), but couple of tricky fixtures this week, good pick if Silva keeps same formation

players need to be FPL players

Chaps...it seems 3 big hitters up front are no longer in favour...I'm considering getting rid of Kane like others to have a front 3 of

    Morata Austin Niasse

Whilst it's early days for Austin, Niasse seems to be a bargain at 4.9m although depends on who will be Everton manager going forward....I just feel that the strikers this year are too inconsistent and there is good value in defence and midfield this year......

Kane is top scoring striker atm, 3rd highest points scorer overall, and this in spite of bad run by spurs, worth holding imo, but i advocate 3-5-2 or 4-4-2

      1. cheeky_ash
        • 14 Years

I realise that Kane is still top striker in the game but very inconsistent and 12.7M so captain choice is very risky atm

Just think what an extra few million could do by spread it around and still have other captain options like Salah, hazard and man C players

true, but if Kane hits a hat-trick at the weekend, you'll be regretting it and taking hits at some point to bring him back, all the time losing ground if he finds consistent form

i've got a strong mid and morata upfront, so happy to hold him until injury or suspension dictates otherwise, still scoring which is the main thing, treading water which is good enough to hold

    Hazard / Sane Conundrum

Considering Sane to Hazard this weekend, have the cash and don't need a hit.

Pro's - Hazard fixtures & he hoovers up bonus points

Con's - Will Sane take West Ham apart and should i wait a week

Also both could be rested i guess

It would leave me with no City which i actually like the sound of as sick of Old Peps rotating ways - current team

DDG Elliott - Alonso, Kola, Daniels, Mee, Heg - Salah, Sane, Rich, RLC, Carroll - Kane, Morata, Wilson

What do people think, Yes or No ?
