Charlie Austin delivers for Southampton once again, ensuring a hard-fought draw on the south coast as Fantasy managers prepare to abandon their short-term investment in Bournemouth.

The Saints striker returned to the starting XI today after being omitted for the midweek run-around at Manchester City.

Austin responded by scoring another vital goal, the equaliser from a Nathan Redmond assist, to make it three from his last two starts.

Based on data from the last three Gameweeks, only Alvaro Morata and Alexandre Lacazette can better Austin’s eight shots in the box – and that despite being limited to a brief cameo in midweek.

That statistic, along with his three goals, highlights his potential as a budget option available for just 6.0 in Fantasy Premier League.

He will take his opportunities when given pitch-time, but a lack of mobility has previously held the striker back, with manager Mauricio Pellegrino largely turning to Manolo Gabbiadini and Shane Long to lead his attack.

Pellegrino may now find it difficult to overlook Austin, although a congested festive schedule, coupled with the 28-year-old’s propensity to pick up injuries, will ensure that his minutes and starts are managed further.

Southampton’s fixtures also stacks the odds against him as a Fantasy asset.

He’ll face Arsenal, Chelsea, Spurs and Manchester United over the next six Gameweeks; hardly match-ups that encourage renewed interest in the Saints after we were burned by Pellegrino’s side over their incredibly favourable opening to the campaign.

The defence remains the popular area of the squad, with Ryan Bertrand (8.4%) and Fraser Forster (8%) the most owned players.

However, the backline have now have kept just one clean sheet in the last ten Gameweeks and there’s little to suggest that they can improve on that over a punishing run of opponents.

Cherries reach their sell-by date

Ryan Fraser scored in his first start since Gameweek 5, but it’s his fellow midfielder Andrew Surman who continues to offer solid value.

Surman’s assist today took him to three for the season, all of which have arrived in the last six Gameweeks.

He’s also scored twice and his seven-point showing against the Saints, which included two bonus, took him to a club-leading 57 points for the season – and all for just 4.8.

Things were rather less rosy for the 5.4% of managers with Callum Wilson (6.1) as their third striker, however.

Having boosted his ownership by 342,000+ since a Gameweek 12 hat-trick against Huddersfield, Wilson was denied a fifth successive start today and failed to produce from a 21-minute appearance from the bench.

He lost over 6,000 owners heading into Gameweek 15 and has already shed another 10,000 coming out of it. That will surely only increase ahead of next weekend’s deadline.

Elsewhere, the Cherries’ most popular FPL asset, Charlie Daniels (13.3%), also delivered little as Eddie Howe’s men were denied a clean sheet for the second successive home match, having secured three straight shut-outs in the three previous fixtures.

Next Saturday’s trip to Crystal Palace marks the end of a strong run of fixtures since Gameweek 11.

Adam Smith – recalled for Steve Cook on Sunday – will miss that Eagles clash having picked up his fifth booking today – he was controversially booked for simulation in the penalty area by referee Jonathan Moss, who reportedly later admitted the error.

Following the Selhurst Park encounter, Howe’s men will face a visit from Liverpool sandwiched between trips to both Manchester clubs.

The fixtures do soften considerably from Gameweek 20, and that might just be enough to offer Daniels, if not Wilson, a stay of execution.

Has anyone seen the qualifying conditions for the fpl cup?:
    "Cup

    Qualifying

The top 4,194,304 scorers in Gameweek 16 will enter the first round. If there are more than 4,194,304 qualifiers then there will be a random draw amongst the lowest scorers to see who qualifies." - taken from FPL cup qualifying page.
I'm certian previous years it was in the 2 millions but now increasing the qualifying spots and starting a gameweek earlier is great news.

He was supposed to bounce back this week after falling.

Think he's become an easy sell due to Sterling looking so good and important, he played all 3 games last week now which shows how highly Pep rates him, Hazard arriving means there's slots needed.

    4. Awesom-o

Poor form, not getting involved enough as he’s too wide, Man Utd away next, on 4 yellows, etc.

The deciding factor for me was his price is falling off the cliff, those who bought him at 8.2 - 8.4 are cashing out their profit. I bought him at 8.9 (just before he went up to 9.0) and he’s now on 8.8 and still the most sold player in the game while Coutinho was going up.

He could be 8.6 - 8.7 by the next deadline.

Seems to be far better prospect when on right wing than left and by that when Sterling doesn't play. I swapped those two 3 gameweeks ago and now thinking of going back to Sterling.

Bought him for 9.0. Took first drop because I expected him to do well against WHU. Now I avoided second and perhaps even third drop in a week. I can't afford to lose so much value, it's as simple as that. And don't tell me you'd keep him if you were in my place bcause you play for points and not value..

that oddly feeling when you have Kolasinac, Otamendi and Moreno and it is the latter you expect to get clean sheets from next week.. Not expecting Klopp to play like they did vs Brighton, but Moreno at 4.7 as left wing back, oh my.

United´s defence should be far more critizised, not much better than Liverpool´s atm. Not just Arsenal but since Newcastle at least. City defends set pieces in a manner that also makes Liverpools defending on set pieces looking good in comparison, at least they don´t concede directly from it, they concedes from the sequence following it-).

that crazy move Kane-Lacazette... Spurs not functioning and Arsenal does, at least offensively, but then there´s Stoke awaiting Kane... can´t and won´t do it but i´ll regret it next sunday, surely will.

United got absolutely battered on Saturday, it was only the brilliance of De Gea that got them the win, Jones and Bailley will be straight back in when fit.

he must be because Smalling and LIndeløf is utter shite, sorry for the language part but they are. If Jones is out and he will be United will concede aplenty vs City no mater how many buses Mou parks-). Rojo is not a centreback, no wonder Mou plays with 3 cbs when he has those three available, they would been disastrous playing in a conventional back four. Beeing a Liverpool supporter and not exactly jubilant over the choices we got in the cb department i would´nt have any United cb bar ones and he is always injured so no point having another at the hospital bed. Bailly only good when playing alongside Jones, which is seldom.

judging defenders must always be seen in context with how the team set up is, and beeing a cb behind matic is quite another case than not beeing shielded by Henderson... Matic is the barn door Henderson left years ago-)

Coutinho more explosive and more involved. Have a good bench for the odd benching but he's looking in great form. Well worth the punt and I've done it.

    3. Over Midwicket
      • 14 Years

Both great options for their price. Ramsey will be gold.

People who don't have Coutinho keep saying 'he'll get rotated' but when fit, he plays. He's more versatile than almost any other Pool player due to the fact he can play in the front 3 or middle 3. Look at his PPG. With a strong bench I think he's a fantastic pick.

as long as Bardsley plays right back i would say Dunk. Think Watfords chances of scoring is higher than Hudders, but it´s a close call. actually have both myself, but both benched atm, as i have Moreno, Kola and Ota. Still undecided if i play RLC or Dunk, sort of wish i´ll be forced to play Dunk as i rate the chances quite good this week. But the way Bournemouth not defending i think Palace will score at least two and then there´s good chance of RLC involved.

So... I need help. I am ranked at 1.1m. Having an absolute nightmare. I have no idea, really, what is going wrong.

    My team is:

    Elliot* Krul* (both out)

    Mustafi* Daniels Mee Naughton Mbemba

    Hazard Salah Sterling Richarlison Zaha

    Kane morata DCL

I've done my transfers so worth taking any hits?

    A) Mustafi to Christensen?
    B) Elliot to Speroni
    C) Both
    D) Stick

Team looks good, just need to sort out GK.

difficult when your speaking of number two, but Daniels is very much the best candidate to get benched. Palace will score most definitively. That means RLC with a decent fixture, to me it´s a toincoss between b and c, which i don´t envy your choice.

Isnt Coutinho a bit like the City guys? Worth it even tough he will get rotated. Amazing fixtures and amazing form and skills.

Also have Rashford and Choupo as enablers but I’m going to downgrade Rashford and upgrade Choupo and play 4-5-1.. strikers are pants so far this year

Morata is a decent pick for the till Jan.

But not denying the fact that there are good & more options in the midfield.

I think he’s bit more secure as a starter than the City guys.

Basically a cheaper KDB who is as attacking as Hazard.

Take a hit and move Pogba, Jones and Aguero out.

      Would suggest Morata.

May be able to afford Ramsey and Azpi/Alonso, or could do Coutinho and see what you have left over for Def.
