Dugout Discussion – Man City vs Spurs

Saturday’s events end with the headline act, as leaders Manchester City host Spurs at the Etihad Stadium.

The big team news is undoubtedly the omission of David Silva, reportedly due to “personal reasons”. We have no further explanation as yet for a player who was the most signed ahead of Gameweek 18, with over 278,000 drafting him in.

Silva had returned four goals from his previous four Gameweeks and his absence will be felt by City, with İlkay Gündogan coming in to replace the Spaniard.

For Spurs, Dele Alli returns to the starting line-up as expected, though Danny Rose plays back-to-back league matches for the first time this season, with Ben Davies kept on the bench. Kieran Trippier returns at right-back.

Intriguingly, two of the most sold players this week – Leroy Sane (sold by 166,000) and Harry Kane (sold by 135,000) – are in opposition and will be under scrutiny.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

              worth risk now to sell some player like ward, kiko etc for ogbonna/mauaku etc. you can use future transfers for other things
              rotations ends up like today for me - morata, austin so good bench with rlc and ogbonna didnt help

        Deli Alli got to be the nastiest player in the PL.

        Used to think the above title was between James McClean, and David Luiz.

        May not be a problem for Alli atm, but long term could stop Real, and Barca signing him.

            That is the point. You can't beat them in midfield. You have to let them have it and sit deep as hell. Long ball (by pass the midfield) and ideally pace on the wings to give a counter attacking threat.

            No-one can match City in midfield. They all try (some press them, some hold a line etc). It doesn't work. Let them have it, but defend deep as f**k. With numbers back. A la Burnley, but more defensive. Lose 10-0 is the same as losing 4-0.

        It wouldn't be so bad seeing the success of Sterling, but he is such a horrible bloke by all accounts.

        In terms of FPL though, if you can be rubbish and not hit a cows arse with a banjo, yet still come away with two goals, you must be doing something right!

              Oh no, wouldn't give two hoots about that for FPL purposes. But in real life, never going to warm to him.

              He has come on, but attitude with Liverpool and even Pep at the start shows what he's like as a bloke.
