Liverpool’s key Fantasy assets are in fine form as Swansea City are dismissed at Anfield, but while Chelsea mastermind another victory and clean sheet, their biggest name remains on the wane.

A ‘power five’ midfield has been much discussed, and embraced by many, over the past few Gameweeks.

But those who have stuck by the notion that forwards can still deliver the requisite bang for the bucks can look back on the last few days with a certain satisfaction.

Roberto Firmino (8.9) has proved a particularly shrewd investment, the Liverpool striker scoring twice in the 5-0 humbling of Swansea City for his third consecutive double-digit haul.

More than 244,000 Fantasy Premier League (FPL) managers had made him Gameweek 20’s most purchased player and a further 69,000+ have taken him top of Gameweek 21’s transfers-in as well.

That’s hardly surprising when the Brazilian is on a run of six goals, two assists and 11 bonus points from his last five starts.

A visit from a leaky Leicester City defence on Saturday is up next, although Burnley away and Man City at Anfield follow and rotation remains a factor.

But for now, Firmino has built an almost unshakeable claim for his place alongside Harry Kane in Fantasy forward lines.

Reds points plentiful

Firmino might have been the star attraction but it was his compatriot, Philippe Coutinho, who ran the show.

Injuries and wistful glances in the direction of Barcelona have led the Brazilian to miss seven matches this season.

And yet he’s still become the seventh midfielder to breach the 100-point barrier, with a goal, assist and two bonus points bringing in a tally of 13 yesterday.

Coutinho has now scored in three successive matches, and four times in his last five starts, although investment has remained slow and steady and he’s still only found in 13.2% of FPL squads.

Much of the reason for that has been the game-leading form of Mohamed Salah, who kept things ticking over with a pair of assists against Swansea.

His nine-point return was just about enough for the 1.1 million (20.2%) managers who handed him the captaincy – that number included 31 of the top 100 FPL bosses – despite the Egyptian failing to find the net for only the third time in the last nine matches.

Both Salah and Firmino were subbed off just after the hour-mark with the match done and dusted, suggesting the pair will feature in the Leicester fixture.

The 26,000+ who have made Coutinho the fifth most transferred-in player of Gameweek 21 might be more concerned to note that their man played the full 90 against Swansea. He’s also started five of the last six.

However, while Sadio Mane was benched, Jurgen Klopp appears to have calmed his rotation in attacking areas. The Swansea fixture looked a potential hotspot for both Firmino and Coutinho in particular, but the Liverpool boss made it clear that his priority was selecting his strongest side.

“We have to be as good as possible, as strong as possible, tonight and then we will see. A lot of things can happen, but it’s not allowed to think about Leicester or Burnley.”

Changes in defence continue at pace, however, with Trent Alexander-Arnold perhaps unfortunate not to get more opportunities.

The young full-back was handed only his seventh start of the campaign and promptly produced his best haul, a first Premier League goal, clean sheet and two bonus adding up to 14 points.

Not that that will likely save him from being replaced by Joe Gomez at the weekend, with security of starts to be found on the other flank and in the form of Andrew Robertson, who played his sixth straight match in the ongoing absence of Alberto Moreno. The Scot is set to continue over the next two matches at least, with Klopp confirming Moreno’s absence into 2018.

Joel Matip’s return after five matches out with injury meant Dejan Lovren dropped to the bench as Ragnar Klavan – available for just 4.4 – made his fifth straight start and ninth appearance over the last 11 Gameweeks.

The Reds defence have now kept nine clean sheets over the season, with seven arriving at Anfield. Only Chelsea and Manchester United have bettered that figure with ten.

Warning signs for Hazard owners

Patience is a luxury that Fantasy managers can ill afford when it comes to midfielders taking up 10.8 of their budget.

And it’s starting to wear rather thin where Eden Hazard is concerned.

The Belgian blanked once again in Chelsea’s workmanlike 2-0 win over Brighton, meaning he’s managed just one assist in five matches now.

That’s a worrying statistic when there are a number of other midfielders – and now forwards – outperforming Hazard with alarming ease.

Factor in assets such as Son Heung-min and Marko Arnautovic, who offer the prospect of a double Gameweek 22 at a far more budget-friendly price, and it’s clear that Hazard is now very vulnerable.

He did have four attempts, two of which came in the box, against Brighton and his withdrawal after 72 minutes suggest he’ll start on Saturday at home to a generous Stoke City defence.

But the trend for sales involving Hazard – he lost more than 120,000 managers over the last two Gameweeks and 34,000+ have made him the third most transferred-out ahead of this weekend – looks highly likely to continue. He suffered his first price drop of the season overnight with traffic heading to Coutinho and Jesse Lingard in particular.

Another to be withdrawn early yesterday, albeit in a happier frame of mind, was striker Alvaro Morata.

The Spaniard notched for only the second time in six appearances, a run which has seen his ownership more than halved.

Morata scored a hat-trick at Stoke earlier this season. That and the Blues’ schedule (ars LEI bha BOU wat WBA) should prompt renewed interest in the forward, particularly as a one-week replacement for Harry Kane.

Defenders find attacking returns

There are no major worries where Chelsea’s defenders are concerned.

Cesar Azpilicueta produced his sixth assist of the season – all of which have led to Morata goals – and added clean sheet points and maximum bonus for a third double-digit haul of the campaign.

His 12-pointer was bettered by Marcos Alonso, who brought in 14 points thanks to a second goal in three Gameweeks.

The wing-back now has five strikes this season and has produced three 14-point performances, two of which have come in his last three matches.

Alonso was signed by more than 93,000 for the Brighton match and a further 31,000+ have made him the fourth most popular pick of Gameweek 21.

He’s certainly delivering, averaging a superb 10 points per match over the last four Gameweeks.

Chelsea are now level with Man United on ten clean sheets for the season, but the 6.5% who were hoping to reap the resultant benefits from Andreas Christensen were left bereft as their man missed out through illness, allowing Gary Cahill to earn a recall.

Thinking about a couple of options - have 2 FTs.

    Please choose one:

    A) De Gea to Pickford (have Jones, allows me to get Alonso in one transfer after the doubles)

    B) Elliot to Adrian (already have Ogbonna) - plays for the DGW and then De Gea to Pickford for GW 24 and someone to Alonso.

Yes, but another problem with Hazard is that Chelsea play more conservatve than Spurs, Liverpool and City

Why not he's got a weeks rest between Southampton and Swansea and an easy fa cup tie after the West ham game. The only way he may be subbed is if spurs have got either of the two games won at half time, and if they have he may have scored well by then.
Worth the gamble if you ask me. I'm going for it.

i think i have had at least one from all teams, but some was just fillers like Carroll so Swansea almost not counting as he never enters into my points? Got rid when i saw that RLC was a far better alternative for cheap mid spot. Now hoping he will rise to 4.7 so i can make a profit and make him into Son before double, afraid i will not get it because he has city next so was so hoping for that rise before arsenal, finding myself in a situation that i actually wants points on my bench-) if he gets something vs Arsenal he could tempt some to buy. not entirely necessary as i can afford Son no matter but i hate those transfers where ii is so close to earn something in the process-)

    GW21 Kane > Agüero

Just trying to work out roughly how much Jay lost with the Kane move which I know is a series of ifs and buts but you can still say with some certainly the region of points he would have got

    Kane 1, 17, 34(safe assumption of captain)
    De Gea 3, 1, 1
    Richarlison 2, 2, 5
    Silva/KDB 0(1), 3, ?
    Bony(unused but a factor in the transfer) 1, 0, 0

Other players sold (Jay had Speroni/Henn combo prior)
    6, 2, ?
RLC (this is a grey area, when would Jay have played him, I personally got his 7 points previous gw and not off the bench)
    6, 7, ?
    Gross 3, 11, 1

We can talk all day about which of those players he would have played, if he would have transferred any of them out anyway (Gross) aside from the Kane move but to give him the benefit of the doubt I’ll take 75% of Gross’s scores, just one of RLC returns and all of the keeper returns since its doubtful he would have made a keeper switch otherwise.

    Gross 15 points x 75% = 11 points
RLC I’ll just take the 7 pointer as this is all I got (up to you if you think he would have got more of these points or none of them)
Keepers I’m gonna say he would have got all 8 of Speroni’s points.

    11+7+8=26
+52 from Kane gives us 78 points. Again people will say he would have bought Player X instead and gained or even lost points but this discussion is outside of our calculation.

So now the points he got with the moves he made which is a lot easier to work out
5+9+3+1 ill be generous and give him all four lots of points even tho he played 3 of them cos I’m nice like that. So that’s 18 points but now we need to talk about captains since this does affect our calculation. I’m not going to back down on the assumption that he would have captained Kane this gw so we’ll leave that alone, also gw 18 in my view was unaffected. The most popular captain choice among ffs’ers was Hazard who I also captained and Jay captained Salah so this falls outside of what we are interested in. So that just leaves gw19. Sterling was the captain of choice even among Kane owners so I won’t be harsh and say he would have captained both hattricks

What we do need to say however is Jay captained Salah gw20 who scored 9 so we must deduct 9 from what was lost.
So when all’s said and done by my numbers I get 51 points lost. Looking at the rankings he’s on 1245 points so an extra 51 points from not making that 12 pointer 3 weeks ago to ditch Kane would have given him 1296 points and an OR of 19th on the world instead of his current 647.

I’m not saying he made the wrong move. Kane’s explosion was not forecast by anybody but it fascinates me that so much was riding on that decision. I’m not too sure what the upside was since DDG, Richarlison & Silva are highly owned but I did raise one hell of an eyebrow when he said on his YouTube video it might be a good idea to do a 12 pointer to get rid and spread the change immediately around your squad. And even more surprised when he actually did it. Personally if I had any inclination to get rid of Kane it would have been for 2 free transfers and to get Aguero or Cout, Firmino, the latter of which is the only tempting option although off the cards now that Kane is firing. Personally whenever you’re looking at one of those transfer decisions where your heart is pounding out of your chest and you feel like you could win the game or tumble down the ranking id always go for the safe option. Andys removal of Lukaku springs to mind. But maybe that’s just fear of how you would feel if it all went wrong and you had egg on your face. I feel depressed when I lose 5-10 points and it’s my decision if I share that with the ffs boards. I can only imagine what it’s like to be up on a pedastool with hundreds of sados like me checking your team every week waiting for you to fail so they can remind you of it in a long post on ffs...

      Kudos...that's a lot of analysis.

      Kanexit makes (some) logical sense.

Why Bony? is the only question I have...not in a million years will he return to being the pre-Man City Swansea Bony...he was beyond-awful on loan at Stoke last year...man's lost the will to play!

I think silva/KDB not scoring compounds matters.. If it's sterling then it's damage limitation.. richarlison move puzzled me.. me and many others can't wait to get rid of him.. and don't get me started on bony.. but then again I brought in Austin for Kane so not much better!

Sorry for long lost but I would appreciate views on my WC options? I have my current team then 4x options.

    Current Team

    DDG - Elliot
    Christiaansen - Kenny - Schindler - Mariappa - Rangel
    Salah - Coutinho - Sterling - Hazard - Pogba
    Niasse - DCL - Kane

WC Option 1 - four changes

    *Pickford - Elliot
    Christiaansen - Kenny - *Otamendi - Mariappa - Rangel
    Salah - Coutinho - Sterling - Hazard - *Lingard
    *Depoitre - DCL - Kane

WC Option 2 - four changes

    *Pickford - Elliot
    Christiaansen - Kenny - *Dunk - Mariappa - Rangel
    Salah - Coutinho - Sterling - Hazard - *Allen / RLC
    *Firmino - DCL - Kane

WC Option 3 - four changes

    *Pickford - Elliot
    Christiaansen - Kenny - *Edwards - Mariappa - Rangel
    Salah - Coutinho - Sterling - Hazard - *Lingard
    *Firmino - DCL - Kane

WC Option 4 - six changes

    *Pickford - Elliot
    Christiaansen - Kenny - *Edwards - Mariappa - *Otamendi
    Salah - *Son - Sterling - Hazard - *RLC
    *Firmino - DCL - Kane

    A few other questions:

    A - is Martina nailed?
B - what is consensus on taking -4 for DDG?
C - worth me moving Haz to Morata as part of WC?

They are all too similar for WC options.

I like option 4 with amendments. Hazard out and Alonso in. Improve the rest of the defence. DCL to Quaner if money is an issue.

Thanks for reply. Yes but want to use my WC before Jan, even if just for tweaks.

Are you suggesting no Chelsea attacking cover ?

I don't know but I would want Alonso. He's attacking and has clean sheet potential. Hazard is too inconsistent and gets subbed off early.

      Who you captaining?

Hazard. Atleast the 2 times I have captained him vs Newcastle and southamp got returns. Depends on inside news. If I found he was a more rotation risk might go salah

Who would you rather have for the dgw, can afford both pairs

    A) Son + Eriksen
    B) Arnautovic + Eriksen

B would be a Spurs triple up (Son, Eriksen, Kane)

B, Arnie looks a good option from after the DGW. Doubt you'll want triple Spurs attack after the DGW

There are so few options in that price range. Calvert-Lewin looks your best bet.

    Hazard/Salah/Sterling/Richarilson
    Kane/Firmino/DCL

    Elliot/TC/Mee/Mbemba

So many great discussions on here that fade away as the pages turn and new articles get posted.

I think the procedure for selecting hot topics needs to be reviewed.

The pendulum is very much skewed away from the community at the moment.
