Drawing breath before Gameweek 22 rolls in – I wish you Happy New Year from myself and all at Fantasy Football Scout.

As usual, I want to extend a huge thanks to all of you for the support you have given myself, the team and the site over the past year.

I wish I could spend more time being active and be more hands-on with the community, but that is very much one of my resolutions for 2018.

It will be a major focus for myself and Fantasy Football Scout over the next twelve months. We will be focusing development effort and new resource on it to, hopefully, enhance your experience. As a result, I plan to be “in and around” you guys more often.

Next, I thank all those who contribute to helping me produce and run the site.

To Paul and the editorial team for all their tireless effort in writing our words on the site and for our partners. To Jonty and the moderators who volunteer their time to keep the community running – I look forward to helping them more in the year to come.

And to Granville, Andy, Az and Luke who have joined me in growing the popularity of the ScoutCast over the past year. Episode two hundred and forty-five is next, which just seems bizarre.

I would also like to thank Ed and our new recruit Mat – our technical team behind the scenes who have been so vital yet again in taking things forward and keeping us running. We have further development work in test, and it really excites me to be working with them on realising our plans for 2018.

Next, I want to thank my family and what is left of my friends outside of Fantasy Football. Particularly my fiancé, Pip, and my two children who still stick around while I shut myself off each weekend and night after night. I don’t know how much longer they will tolerate me, but I’m so glad that they do.

Thanks again for sharing my passion and for choosing our pages to feed it and voice your opinions.

Many thanks again and Happy New Year to you and your families.

See you in 2018.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

do we expect whu can do well against wba and spurs? wba defence seems tight but maybe only against top team and then spurs. think of going double spurs midfield than spurs+whu

Apparently so, people taking mad hits to double up on Adrian and Ogbonna for some reason.

I have Arnie but I'd say double Spurs midfield is a better option. I'm on Free Hit so I've gone Son + Eriksen + Kane, and Adrian and Arnie from WHU.

Yep. I've gone Son-Erik instead of considering a West Ham mid.

No way. Free Hit Chip is worth way more than 12 points. Take the hits, enjoy the new team, and keep the most valuable chip in your pocket for later.

Need help with my bench order lads.

    Pickford
    Azpilicueta, Ogbonna, Jones, Daniels
    Salah, Arnautovic, Sterling, Son
    Kane, Firmino

    Elliot, Richarlison, Christensen, Depoitre.

    No hits

    ADRIAN
    VERTONGHEN - SANCHEZ - Alonso - Otamendi
    ARNAUTOVIC - Salah - Sterling - Sane
    KANE(TC) - Firmino

    Fabianski - Dunk - Crouch - Loftus-Cheek

Shame about Salah injury and me already having 3 Spurs... would have taken a hit to bring in Eriksen, Alli or Son in a heartbeat!

Captaining Kane. He may miss the first game but he has 4 goals and assist in one game. Erik has never scored a hattrick for Spurs, Not sure about Ali but if fit, Kane always has the potential to return more points. Having watched Tottenham quite closely for three seasons I don't think you can choose between Erik, Ali or Son. They all have good chances and Kane doesn't favour any of them in terms of laying off. Erik is the ultimate set piece specialist but Son gets in the box more. Ali is streaky. For me Son is the best pick because he is cheaper. He will also play further up field if Kane doesn't play, but Erik can score from 30+ yards so don't sweat it, just buy 1 Spurs mid and relax. 🙂

    Who would you captain?

    1. Kane
    2. Son
    3. Eriksen
    4. Sterling
    5. Aguero

At the moment I have the armband on Eriksen, which is in my view the "safe" option (not sure Kane plays both games), but I feel Aguero might have a hatty on him. Also, Son could be pretty explosive if Kane misses the first game and he goes up top.

    Any thoughts?

    Cheers

Sometimes it pays to be bold in this game, so I've gone for it. Salah, Coutinho, Hazard, DCL > Alli, Son, Choupo-Moting, Aguero (-12). Already have Kane (C).

Pretty sure most would say don't do it, but I tend to think a lot of people play too passively. If Salah and Coutinho don't start, Haz blanks again and DCL blanks again / gets rested (which are all either definite or quite likely), I think the new players can easily make up the difference this GW, but certainly when combined with next GW too. I wouldn't even have 11 starters if Salah, Coutinho didn't play, and DCL is a huge rotation risk now, as is Quaner my 3rd striker. Feels like a justifiable -12 in a GW where loads of people are taking hits to fix their own issues.

I wanted to get rid of DCL anyway, he's finished as an option. Aguero now gets a proper shot as the lone striker. The big call is Salah, who I've had since the start. Yes I'm losing value, but isn't this why we build up high TV and SV in the first place? Mine TV was 105.5 so I feel like I can afford to let him go and re-invest the funds, then just buy him back for around 0.4 more. He's going to drop from 10.1 anyway, perhaps down to 9.9 or 9.8 if it's confirmed he will miss the City match too. I don't see 0.3-0.4 lost as a huge issue at this point in the season. I always seem to have some cash ITB when making transfers because I'm playing the form and fixtures, not trying to spend the full budget.

    Have I lost the plot?

Guess we'll find out. People are very reluctant to take hits, but sometimes your team does need to be re-built. I'm not afraid this will burn me because I've removed a bunch of potential non-starters for a bunch of DGWers and Aguero. It might not be amazing, but it won't be awful.

I know, but why exactly is buying back at a higher price such a big deal? We buy players for more than they started all the time. I've got TV of 105.5, I'm hardly scraping the barrel. I will simply buy him back in 3 GWs. Might lose 0.4 max.

I took a 16 pointer, 5 changes. Too many injuries, rumors and I didn't want to waste a chip...already did that early on. I got some good players to counter the 16 points. No risk no reward!

And I think you've done the right thing. Hits are not as big an issue as people make out. Where hits are dodgy is simply swapping out a decent fit player for another decent fit player and hoping for the best. That's asking for trouble and it burns people.

But taking hits is fine when you would literally be hoping for miracles (Salah is def out, Coutinho, DCL in my case). I'm replacing 0-6 points with massive potential and accepting the -12.

Good luck with your 5 changes, hope they work out.

Cheers man, yeah i don’t think i’ll be making any more changes.
Funnily enough, i’ve just checked to see what it would look like bringing Aguero in, and could easily do Firmino > Aguero, would just require doing Alli or Son to someone a little cheaper.
I think i won’t be able to resist a guarenteed Aguero playing whilst Jesus is out, so my answer is yes, think i will defo bring him in after DGW.

    Play one of each:
    a) Pickford b) Foster
    1) Christensen 2) Mee

      A.

and this one is harder. Mee is more nailed but Burnley's fixtures aren't the best in comparison to Christensen. I'd say 1. if you have a proper sub in for times Chris doesn't play

Thoughts on Gundogan at 5.3?? Is he the best midfield option under 6.5?
