While the Gameweek is in full swing, it’s not too late to dive into our partner game Yahoo who are offering more big-money prizes covering tonight’s fixtures.

They are rolling out a Premier League £3.5k Wednesday contest which takes in all seven matches from this evening’s top-flight action.

Getting underway at 7.45pm, the contest is guaranteed to run, costs £5 to enter and is a multi-entry game, which means you can select up to eight teams. The top 174 places pay out – there’s a minimum win-back of £10, with £350 going to the first place.

Driven by Opta data, the Yahoo game has a unique scoring system which is tailor-made for members of our community seeking out a Daily Fantasy Sports game.

If you’re new to Yahoo, you can sign up and claim a free £50 in credit to your account when you deposit just £5. Promo code: Fantasy50.

It’s also worth having a look over our Strategy Guide before selecting your line-ups, as this gives you a better idea of the Yahoo game and the types of players who tend to benefit.

FFS Strongest XI

Ederson – £16
John Stones – £15
Maya Yoshida – £14
Marcos Alonso – £17
Eden Hazard – £25
Cesc Fabregas – £18
Xherdan Shaqiri – £18
Johan Berg Gudmundsson– £16
Bernardo Silva – £14
Sergio Aguero – £28
Theo Walcott – £19

We’re backing Man City right across the positions in our Yahoo XI, with Ederson one of four players from Pep Guardiola’s side selected for a home encounter with West Brom.

Up against a travel-sick attack with just four goals in their last eight top-flight road trips, the league leaders will be confident of improving a record that’s surprisingly produced just one clean sheet in seven at the Etihad.

Ederson also benefits from the Yahoo scoring system – keepers earn points for wins or draws and pick up double the number of points as defenders for a clean sheet.

Rested for the weekend FA Cup win over Cardiff, John Stones looks set for a first-team return against the Baggies.

We’d prefer the goal threat of his more expensive team-mate Nicolas Otamendi but, with Guardiola’s options now increasing in central defence with the arrival of Aymeric Laporte, there’s a chance the Argentine could be rested for this one.

Despite featuring just eight times at home, Stones still sits among the top seven defenders for successful passes (599) in front of his own fans. City, meanwhile, have allowed fewer shots in the box (44) than any side at home.

Utilised off the bench in the weekend FA Cup win over Watford, Maya Yoshida is expected to return to the Southampton teamsheet in time to host a Brighton side that’s failed to score in six successive road trips. The Japan international has fired 16 efforts inside the box in 18 appearances this season – only five defenders have managed more.

Marcos Alonso remains a peerless big-hitting option at the back as Chelsea welcome Bournemouth to Stamford Bridge.

Antonio Conte’s men have offered outstanding resilience in home matches, conceding just twice in the last eight in front of their own fans across all competitions. Alonso, meanwhile, is the number one defender for shots (45), attempts on target (17) and goals (six), and grabbed a goal and assist in the FA Cup win over Newcastle on Sunday.

Five goals in his last four league appearances against Eddie Howe’s men books Eden Hazard’s place in our line-up. With Alvaro Morata still sidelined and Michy Batshuayi poised for a move, the Belgian looks likely to lead the line this evening. He’s warmed up nicely for this one, too, bagging three goals in as many matches in all competitions.

We’re also backing the fit-again Cesc Fabregas to return to Chelsea’s XI against the Cherries. An unused sub in the weekend cup win over Newcastle, the Spaniard is ranked first for successful crosses (18), key passes (42) and big chances created (seven) at Stamford Bridge. Only Cesar Azpilicueta (716 to 665) has made more successful passes at home among the Chelsea contingent.

Stoke playmaker Xherdan Shaqiri is handed a starting berth at home to a Watford defence with one clean sheet in 10 on the road. The Potters’ number one for shots on target (22), successful crosses (36) and chances created (49), the Swiss international has been involved in 48% of his side’s goal when on the pitch. In terms of big chances created, only Man City’s Kevin De Bruyne (13) has bettered Shaqiri’s 12.

The number one player for successful crosses (12) and key passes (14) over Gameweek 21-24, Johan Berg Gudmundsson’s distribution could prove decisive for Burnley’s trip to Newcastle. The Magpies have conceded more headed attempts (62) than any side this season and have mustered just one clean sheet in their last eight at St James’ Park across all competitions.

An ankle injury for Leroy Sane looks set to boost Bernardo Silva’s pitch-time for Man City. Priced at just £14 in Yahoo, the summer signing has stepped up his output in recent weeks, producing three goals and six assists in his last 13 matches across all competitions. Silva looks likely to take up the right flank role against a Baggies backline that places third bottom for crosses conceded (285) down their left side.

We have to make room for Sergio Aguero after his hat-trick against Newcastle last time out. In terms of home goals, the Man City frontman is now tied with Harry Kane at the summit on 10 apiece – good news as he goes head-to-head with a West Brom defence that’s mustered a single clean sheet in their last 11 road trips.

We turn to Theo Walcott as Everton look to take advantage of the Riyad Mahrez unrest and get the better of Leicester at Goodison Park. The winter signing wasted no time in making his mark for the Toffees, supplying an assist on his debut in the Gameweek 24 stalemate with West Brom. The Foxes have struggled to keep out opponents on the road – indeed, their clean sheet at Chelsea was a first in eight away matches.

As Yahoo allows late swaps up until each kick-off, our listed line-up may well be subject to change.

The Midweek Contests

As well as the Premier League £3.5k Wednesday contest, Yahoo are also offering a Premier League £600 Wednesday contest that takes in the same seven fixtures.

This is also guaranteed to run, but costs just £1 to enter and is a multi-entry game, which means you can select up to six teams. The top 155 places pay out – there’s a minimum win-back of £2, with £60 going to the first place.

You can open an account and get started immediately.

If you register and deposit £5 or more, Yahoo will also give you a £50 bonus to be used as cash to enter paid contests.

I think I'm going to get rid of Mahrez after the news of letting him the club, teammates and fans down I'll think he won't be going back straight into the lineup come Saturday and won't mentally be prepared for Swansea Mahrez > Martial for me

Has a player ever tried to force a transfer in the courts? I doubt in this day and age a player wouldn’t be allowed to ‘work’ wherever he chooses if some compensation is paid

Basically it meant that players could leave for free and get the money themselves at the end of their contract, rather clubs still being able to demand a fee

Got to depend on the laws of the country. In the USA, it can't happen as the player would be under contract. Instead, they hold out, which is arguably a breach of contract. Of course, if the player was not under contract, and is a free agent, then they are on their own.

The key is in 'some compenastion'.
I think Suarez would've had a right to sue Liverpool over Arsenal's iconic bid of £40m plus £1. There was an interpretation problem with his clause and he was eager to join before being convinced to stay by Gerrard. John Henry later admitted Arsenal did in fact activate the clause, but nothing was done after that.

I think you would have a decent shout of being able to do so. The transfer fee is essentially compensation for breach of contract after all(I'm a lawyer if that helps!)

      1. Deulofail

And both parties have to come to an agreement or else the contract remains intact.

So on what grounds could Mahrez sue or take to court Leicester?

Kane. Bit of a wait and see, but Kane is more of a proven reliable scorer this season. Sanchez carries more uncertainty, but a lot of potential based on past seasons, and different club. Next 2 for Man Utd look more tempting for Alexis...

        • 11 Years

they do. Kane next week would mean a couple less transfers down the road, need C-M to perform to enable Kane as well though

Right, so you have identified the tradeoffs. Aggressive strategy = get Alexis and then get Kane. Conservative strategy = go direct to Kane. Depends how you play. Certainly, aggressive strategy for studs is kinda fun. If they both come through as planned, you gain a lot.

they really do come through. I've got most things wrong this year so I'm thinking of going back to a conservative strategy to save face tbh. Not having Kane over Christmas really hurt, and he normally finishes seasons strongly. Cheers for the advice

I agree but the players have such power now the club are best to let them go if they aren't performing.
That or introduce contracts based on performance.

I know Eden hazard is king of the week but he really dragged his heels the season before and it hurt Chelsea, Mahrez is the same and Sanchez is the worst I've seen. Either figure out a way to keep them in line or dump them in my opinion

Cuts both ways though - not necessarily a good result for Leicester if he doesn't perform for the rest of the season.

Look at Sanchez and VVD - both clubs would have been better off selling in the summer as they were disruptive and poor for the first half of the season. (Coutinho was the exception.)

City will score at least 10.

      Burnley will concede.

        1. Deulofail

Either Laporte is a good option for the money or not. The 'double' doesn't mean anything for FPL points. They are individual players.

If you're arguing from a point of 'cover', then I'll have to disagree since I would never plan to bench a 5.5m+ defender, so I don't need them to have different fixtures (for rotation).

            • 10 Years

In terms of value for a player otamemdi doesn't cut it at the moment. I would be swapping him for a cheaper city mid rather than doubling.
Not against doubling up in general

No midweek games next week though (unless you have a FA Cup replay) so City, Utd, Chelsea, Liverpool, Arsenal, Leicester (i.e. the clubs which make up the majority of good FPL assets) are okay. Spurs the only one to have doubt over.
