Burnley peg back Man City on a day of frustration for both the league leaders and an army of Fantasy managers.

The more philosophical will have shrugged off City’s 1-1 draw at Turf Moor as ‘just one of those days’, but those who had stocked up on City’s attack were left surveying the Fantasy wreckage of so much expensive talent bringing in meagre returns.

Three of Gameweek 26’s most popular purchases, Sergio Aguero (89,000+), Raheem Sterling (97,000+) and Kevin De Bruyne (92,000+), toiled for precious little reward against Sean Dyche’s men, with Sterling guilty of a particularly glaring miss.

That came when City were 1-0 up and in total control of a match in which they had 20 shots to their opponents’ eight, creating a chance every 4.7 minutes as they went.

Left-back Danilo, back in the side in place of Oleksandr Zinchenko, scored the goal when he curled home a Bernardo Silva pass; reward for a strong attacking performance from the defender, who had more attempts on goal than all but one player.

Sterling was the one man to better the Brazilian’s four shots, and the key attempt of his five on the day involved missing an open goal from three yards out.

That changed the mood in the stadium, inspiring a Burnley revival which culminated in Johan Berg Gudmundsson’s equaliser from a Matthew Lowton assist.

The Icelander has only scored twice in the league this season, but both have come in the last five Gameweeks as he continues to provide notable value, at 5.0, to the select band of 44,817 Fantasy Premier League (FPL) managers currently enjoying his services as their fifth midfielder.

Enjoyment was a considerably rarer commodity among owners of City’s stars.

Aguero blanked for the first time in four Gameweeks to deliver just two points for the 940,000 (16.5%) who captained him. That included 39 of the top 100 FPL managers, while 28% of the 17,900 who played their Triple Captain chip used it on the Argentine.

A fixture with Leicester City follows for Aguero which, crucially, comes at home as the forward has now gone four away matches without a goal.

De Bruyne has been equally underwhelming on the road, with just a single goal and assist from his last seven away days.

Sterling might have ended the match as the scapegoat, with Pep Guardiola bringing him off soon after his miss, but he has blanked only twice in nine Gameweek starts. The other was in the loss at Liverpool.

Of more concern should be City’s increasingly brittle backline, which has kept just one clean sheet in five.

John Stones remained sidelined – this time with a knee injury sustained in training – but that didn’t mean that Aymeric Laporte’s 93,000+ new owners reaped the reward as Guardiola partnered Vincent Kompany with Nicolas Otamendi at centre-half.

But whatever the combination, City’s defensive stock is on the slide as matches with Arsenal and Chelsea draw ever nearer.

In fact, trying to guess Guardiola’s teamsheet across all positions for the Leicester City match will be a tough task as the Gameweek 27 encounter comes just three days before their Champions League Round of 16 clash with Basel.

It remains to be seen how City approach that encounter, though having dropped points at Burnley, it could now be that Guardiola abandons any thoughts of rest and rotation.

As for Burnley, it was a predictably busy day for keeper Nick Pope (8.8%). Having produced just two save points from his previous five starts, he earned two more today, making six stops – more than any other goalkeeper in the Gameweek.

That was his best tally since Gameweek 17 and helped him to a bonus point made it 16 for the season now, ranking top among keepers.

The Clarets have kept only one clean sheet in eight matches, but an injury to Phil Bardsley, who was substituted at half-time, might well put Lowton back on our radars.

The defender’s assist caught the eye, as could his 4.3 price tag in the light of Burnley’s short-term schedule (swa SOT EVE whu) and a run-in that involves only matches with Chelsea and Arsenal of any major concern.

Is Lingard safe from rotation ? Or could it be his turn on bench next gw against newcastle especially given the dip in form of late(4 blanks in 4)

Mourinho is not short of options either. If he doesn't perform cant see him staying in united lineup

I personally don't think he is safe from rotation. When people were debating pogba or lingard one of the reasons pogba was so good is he would play 90 minutes every game. After Seeing him get benched last match I don't see why lingard won't get dropped either

To be honest i think with Lowton back Burnley will be more solid at the back. Bardsley was always the back up for Lowton before Lowton got injured in GW 13.

Keeping Alonso & Jones, but shuffling the rest of my defensive pack over the next couple of GWs.
    Otamendi, Ogbonna, Wimmer
    to
Mawson, Maguire, Ward ( I know he's not fully fit yet).

Sensible? Or should I get in some blank GW players instead?

(Rest of team = De gea/Coleman, Ox, Salah, Walcott, Willian, Sterling, Aguero, Fimino, Quaner.

    1. Pranav Santhosh

Depends what your plan with the free hit is. Mawson and maguire are solid picks and those seem like good moves

    2. arndff_
      • 13 Years

My current defence is: Ota Maguire Ogbonna Dunk Long

We're in the same boat, because I want to ditch Ota, Ogbonna and Dunk in the next few weeks.

I haven't decided who to buy yet. Could go for a Mawson/Fernandez and an Arsenal defender for instance.

      1. Phil's Stamps
        • 15 Years
        7 years, 10 months ago

A little bit stumped because I want to refresh my defence for the long-term with those moves, but also want to get in more players for the blank (not using my free hit chip), though preferably not Stoke and Everton defenders (currently have 4 blank GW players, 3 Liv & Walcott).

        1. arndff_
          • 13 Years
          7 years, 10 months ago

Have you already used your FH chip?

Fixing my defence is a priority to me. This is my team for GW27:

          DDG
          Ogbonna Otamendi Maguire
          Salah Walcott Hazard Sterling Shaqiri
          Firmino Kane

          Elliot Quaner Dunk Long

          1. Phil's Stamps
            • 15 Years
            7 years, 10 months ago

No still got the FH chip. Main rival in head to head ML still has his, and we play each other in the blank. I guess I should probably use the chip right? He's almost certainly going to use his (only has 3 blank GW players at the mo and has just wildcarded)

            My current team for 27:

            DDG
            Alonso Jones Otamendi
            Salah Walcott Willian Sterling Ox
            Aguero Fimino

            Coleman Quaner Ogbonna Wimmer

            1 FT

As you can see the bench is very poor which is why I was proposing the moves above. Quaner to Ayew is also on the cards too at some point, Aguero to Kane probably sooner.

Think I'll transfer Otamendi to Mawson to avoid the former's drop and I think he's a big rotation risk this weekend (also not too confident of a City cleanie)

Before his injury he was doing the full 90 since time began, expect he will be going forward. Especially as that other players Bardsley may be injured.

Kane also has midweek game so may not be as fresh for Arsenal...just depends how he does tonight as his price before next GW may be more volatile.

Ayew has a mid week game too...not sure if triggering Ota now is correct just to bank the 0.1

Lingard may drop too which kinda defeats the purpose...

Yeah I did Ota out for the current gameweek. Already done Walcott in for GW27.
Leaves me 4.9 for a Ogbonna or Kenny replacement. Currently thinking Naughton but will await the FA cup fallout.

Potential DGW matches, assuming 31 goes into 34 and 35 into 37. Not precise and could change of course, but interesting to line up BB and TC options. Or at least aim your transfers in the right direction. Used Ben Crellin’s spreadsheet, any game predicted over 50% to be moved included. Some are obviously mutually exclusive etc, and any other obvious caveats.

    Potential 34

    Burnley v Leicester (H), Chelsea (H)
    Man City v Brighton (H), Spurs (A)
    Swansea v Everton (H), Southampton (H)
    Southampton v Swansea (A), Chelsea (H)
Brighton v Man City (A), Crystal Palace (A)
    Leicester v Arsenal (H), Burnley (A)
    Arsenal v Leicester (A), Newcastle (A)
    Spurs v Newcastle (H), Man City (H)
    Man U v West Ham (A), West Brom (H)
    Chelsea v Burnley (A), Southampton (A)
    West Ham v Man U (H), Stoke (H)
    Newcastle v Spurs (A), Arsenal (A)

    Potential 37

    Man City v Swansea (H), Huddersfield (H) !!!
    Swansea v Man City (A), Bournemouth (A)
    Brighton v Spurs (H), Man U (H)
    Spurs v Brighton (A), West Brom (A)
    Chelsea v Huddersfield (H), Liverpool (H)
    Huddersfield v Chelsea (A), Man City (A)
    Leicester v Southampton (H), West Ham (H)
    Southampton v Leicester (A), Everton (A)
    Bournemouth v Man U (H), Swansea (H)
    Man U v Bournemouth (A), Brighton (A)

Again, this is not what the weeks will be, but what is this forum for if not speculating? Newborn has kept me up and there might be an error or two so feel free to double check by searching Ben Crellin on Twitter.

After some discussion I think I might stick it out with Lingard for one more week (thanks for the feedback on pg11). But there are my current thoughts on my 2FTs for gw27:
    1) Depoitre, Mili > JAyew, Ibe
    2) Ota, Mili > Mee, Ibe (Lin > Wally in gw28)
    3) Ota, Dep > Mee, Wilson (Lin > Wally in gw28)
    4) Dep > Niasse and save second FT for gw28

The below strategy of almost performing a Mini WC for GW30 will complement the FH strategy for GW31?

    GW27: Roll FT

    GW28: Use 2FT

    1) Ota to Lowton
    2) Kun to Kane

    GW29: Roll FT

    GW30: Use 2FT / Mini WC

    1) Richarlison to Ramsey
    2) Lingard to ?
    3) Ogbana to ?

    Current team:

    DDG - Pope.

    Ota - Jones - Ogbana - Schindler - Honey.

    Salah - Sterling - Lingard - Wally - Richarlison.

    Kun - Firmino - Ayew.
