There may be one match left of the current round of fixtures but we’re already looking ahead with the launch of our Captain Poll for Gameweek 27.

Home comforts will ensure Manchester City assets challenge for the summit as Pep Guardiola’s troops look to atone for Saturday’s draw at Burnley when Leicester roll up to the Etihad.

Despite disappointing the 940,000 (16.5%) Fantasy Premier League managers who captained him at Turf Moor, Sergio Aguero (11.9)’s home form is convincing. In front of his own fans the Sky Blues striker has scored 11 of his 17 league goals – a record he shares with Liverpool’s Mohamed Salah.

The Argentinian has delivered attacking returns in all four of his recent encounters at the Etihad, ranking up two double-digit points hails along the way. Overall, he has seven goals and an assist from his last six home matches.

Kevin De Bruyne (10.3) is another likely to garner votes – 11 of the Belgian’s 17 assists and four of his five goals have come at home. At the Etihad, De Bruyne has registered more shots on target than Aguero (22 to 20), with only Salah (29) and Spurs’ Harry Kane (38) more accurate on home turf.

There’s a similar pattern with Raheem Sterling (9.0)’s home and away form – he has registered more goals (nine vs five) and assists (seven to three) in front of his own supporters.

The Foxes should be obliging visitors on Saturday having picked up just two clean sheets on the road, the joint-second worst away record, conceding on 20 occasions.

Mohamed Salah (10.3)’s brace at Anfield in yesterday’s 2-2 thriller against Spurs makes the Liverpool winger almost impossible to ignore for a trip to Southampton.

A 15-point return against Spurs was the 15th time in his last 17 league run outs that the Egyptian has delivered points. His opponents’ record bodes well for the top-scoring player in FPL – no side has fewer clean sheets at home (two) than the Saints, while only two teams have conceded more goals (19) in front of their own supporters.

Salah has already bagged 16 points against Southampton at Anfield, back in Gameweek 12.

The North London derby at Wembley Stadium presents a wealth of captaincy candidates, most notably Spurs’ Harry Kane (12.8) given his aforementioned accuracy in front of goal in home matches. The striker, who scored his 100th Premier League goal at Anfield yesterday and has 10 successful strikes in front of his own fans, has also fired off more shots (91) and more penalty area shots (55) than any other player in front of his own fans.

Furthermore, Kane has scored six goals in as many league appearances against the Gunners.

Son Heung-min has the most impressive home form among the Spurs midfield contingent, having scored in seven of his last nine Wembley outings. He has five goals and five assists in his last six home matches.

The visitors’ swashbuckling 5-1 victory against Everton at the Emirates on Saturday should enhance their prospects, with Aaron Ramsey (6.9) particularly catching the eye with a hat-trick.

Former Borussia Dortmund duo Henrikh Mkhitaryan (7.8) and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang (10.5) both impressed on their first starts for the Gunners, with three assists and a goal respectively. They are already this week’s most popular transfer targets, earning 125,000+ and 93,000+ new owners since Saturday’s deadline passed.

Alexis Sanchez (11.8) is another potential captaincy candidate after a gung-ho performance against Huddersfield in his home debut for Manchester United on Saturday. During the 2-0 victory against the Terriers the Chilean scored from the spot, after having his initial penalty kick saved. He also fired off more shots (six) than any other player in the Gameweek so far and created three chances for team-mates.

Next up, Sanchez visits a Newcastle side that has just one clean sheet in their last six home matches.

Chelsea’s trip to Watford tonight will be keenly watched by those eyeing up a Blues asset for the armband. In Gameweek 27 Antonio Conte’s men host a West Brom outfit that has a solitary clean sheet and shipped 10 goals in their last six road trips.

There should be particular interest in how Olivier Giroud (8.2) performs, should he earn his Chelsea debut at Vicarage Road after moving from Arsenal in the January transfer window.

The Frenchman’s track record across his 16 appearances for the Gunners bodes well, having registered a shot in the box at a faster rate (one every 22 minutes) than any other player.

Other Chelsea players challenging for a strong finish in the poll are likely to include Eden Hazard (10.7), who has three goals in four starts prior to tonight’s Vicarage Road clash. The all-round Fantasy potential of Marcos Alonso (7.4) also keeps him in consideration. He is the highest scoring FPL defender this season with six goals, an assist, 12 clean sheets and 13 bonus points.

Bournemouth’s Callum Wilson (5.9), who has four goals and two assists in his last seven run-outs, may also gain interest.

The forward may have failed to find the net in Saturday’s 2-1 home victory Stoke but he now visits a Huddersfield side that have conceded eight times in their last four home matches – only Watford have shipped more (nine) over that time frame.

The poll is now live in the middle column on your homepage on desktop, or via the slide-in menu on mobile and tablet under recent comments.

Remember, we are looking for your vote for the player you think will be most effective, regardless of whether you own them or not.

We will be back to check in on progress in the poll later ahead of the Gameweek 27 deadline when we deliver our “Captain Sensible” article offering an analysis of the results and the statistics behind the leading contenders.

Trying to figure out which is priority, going to keep my WC until the DGWs. Could do -4 hit and try to do it gradually?

Christensen/richarlison could be changed for a -4 and would give you a much stronger 352. if wilson continues to look good you could downgrade Gudmundsson to mili and upgrade depoitre to go 343.

I would focus on your defense this week, in particular Christensen and Davies.

Probably just Christensen out next week for VVD who has a GW31 fixture and play Ogbonna.

Is it time for Otamendi to go?

Thinking of downgrading to Robertson - seems nailed, no GW31 blanks and fixtures to end of season look good. Would be for free.

    Thoughts?

City conceding regularly, CL could mean Ota becomes a rotation risk & feel the £6.3m can be invested better elsewhere

Why not he was class. Had the balls to call the 2nd pen and gave the ref the correct info for 1st pen. It was the ref who gave the 1st pen despite being unclear what had happened

he was class? Kane dived for the first incidentally. Lamela was offside for the second, plus he dived across VVD. Not a peno by any measure

    3. Ramboros
      • 14 Years

The linesman did a good job. His explanation to the referee was solid. It was down to Moss to judge whether Kane was involved in the play before the clearance, and whether the clearance was should count as a deflection. The assistant gave all the information that Moss needed to make a good decision. The second offside is so minor that no human eye can see it.

VVD's effort on Lamela was the same as Bellerin's on Hazard - just stupid attempts at hacking the ball away in their own box rather than just jockeying and they paid the price.

You are not helping yourself. VVD clearly kicks Lamela in the calf and it’s a blatant penalty. And no I don’t know you personally, but every fan would claim a penalty if that was their team on the attack.

This pumping his fist after he changed the refs mind is just incorrect. The linesman did not change the refs mind with the first decision, he had already blown for a pen. The linesman was simply pointing out that Kane would be offside if no one touched the ball.

He clenched his fist yes, but not because he changed the refs mind! (because he did not) the ref had already made the decision. Any neutral who watched the game will know that.

Tensions were running high and there was a lot of pressure on this decision, this may explain the release through clenching. I bet his bum was clenching as well!

IMO this has been totally blown out by media outlets and not shown the full incident in most cases

I don't understand all the Mkhitaryan love. Arsenal have Spurs and City next - they are not a big team team, in the way that Liverpool are for example. Not only that, but did anyone watch the Everton game? Big Sam's bizzare tactics made it so easy. There was nothing in the centre for Everton - Schneiderlin and Gueye were pressuring Arsenal's dms and leaving massive gaps in behind for Arsenal's attacking midfielders. They simply will not get that against Spurs and City - I'd wait for another couple of weeks. It wasn't Arsenal brilliant in my opinion, although their new players will clearly score points. It was tactical suicide by Big Sam. I don't see Arsenal scoring more than twice over the next two, and quite possibility less than that.

You're right, it's almost impossible to evaluate Arsenal with Everton having been so terrible. Though I'm not sure the problem were the tactics as much as the utter lack of desire shown by Everton. For example, at one point Xhaka and another Arsenal player were in the box, debating for about 5 seconds who will take the shot, with no Everton player making any effort to close in. So yeah, probably best to keep evaluating for now.

    2FTs:

    Foster
    Mee - Cresswell - Alonso
Chuopo Moting - Pogba - Lingard - Sterling - Salah
    Aguero - Kane

    Elliott - Monreal - Quaner - Tuanzebe

    Thinking:

Aguero and Pogba > Firmino and KDB for free?

or is there elsewhere I should improve? E.g. Cresswell > Stephens and save 1FT

I think Firm and KDB makes sense as a move, but I wonder if this is the right week? Presumably you got Pogba and Aguero for a reason, and fixtures against Newcastle away and Leicester at home look great for points.

I'd look at Lingard to Theo, and at moving Cresswell on in the near future. And perhaps Firm and KDB the week after?

        Thanks for the reply mate!

I've had Aguero for a while now and he's frustrating me more and more each week, as the Champs League is coming up and potential return of Jesus I feel like now is the right time to move him on. Although I do agree with you about maybe keeping him until next week.

I recently got Pogba because I thought he was nailed but him starting on the bench showed he wasn't.

I could do Lingard > Theo but would need to clear 1.1 million from elsewhere.

I also fell fail of Pogba...intended him for three fixtures before a shift to an Arsenal mid. It's fair to say it backfired! But I'm sure he will start against Newcastle and that looks a great fixture.

And I can understand the Aguero frustration. He is Aguero playing for comfortably the best team in the league...and he is scoring consistently. But I think the Aguero of old would have had an extra 4/5 goals in this team. I think he has dropped off slightly, and I also think that Pep's City team does not centralise a central striker in the way that Spurs do for example. Whereas Firm looks great value going forward, because Liverpool will score alot and he will invariably be involved.

    Play who this GW?
    A) J. Ayew (BUR)
    B) Mili (eve)

Mili burnt me from the bench this week but feel like Everton can defend better than Burnley?

    DDG
    Alonso, Otamendi, Fernandez
Salah (C), Hazard (V), Sterling, Lingard
    Kane, Firmino, Ayew

    (Elliot) (Mili, Tomkins, Duffy)

Everton's defence is woeful, though should improve with Coleman back. Burnley's is pretty good.

    Advice on this squad please

    Pickford / Elliott

    Christensen / masuka / Jones / mee / dunk

    Mkhitaryan / Pogba / Sterling / Salah / RLC

    Aguero / Kane / Ayew

    0.7 itb

Was thinking of the following moves due to all the injuries/no playing

    Out - Masaka / RLC /Aguero

    In - Simpson / Walcott / Vardy

    Worth doing for -4?

Never mind the 2nd pen, wasn’t it a blatant dive by Kane for the 1st pen? Seen it from a few angles and can’t see any touch from the keeper.
Seems like Niasse got a retrospective ban for a far less clear attempt to deceive the red....

Apologies as i posted this question yesterday but really stumped on who to bench this GW, can anyone provide a convincing argument to leave any of this lot out !?

    Salah - no chance
    Sterling - nope
Walcott - loving this fixture for him
Son - home form, North London derby
Shaqiri - just scored, now facing Brighton at home
    Kane - as if
Firmino - great fixture and he's 'due'
Wilson - the obliging Huddersfield defence

Not usually but with so much shift at the moment and wild card time not too far away it helps keep the team strong for now, particularly if rotation/injuries occur. After this week the bench choices look a little clearer.

Think its time to get rid of 1 Spurs palyer, what about Erics>Sterling? got 2ft

spurs are about to hit a good run of fixtures so would hold onto one of them. Eriksen may be more nailed, but I think sterling is pretty essential at this point personally so think it’s a decent move.
then you’ve the option to move bilva on to walcott/ramsey/Mkhitaryan if one starts shining in coming weeks and still have a city asset

Looking at United defence, prob Smalling to save cash. Looking at 31 though, is it advisable that managers instead look at Stoke defs, for example ?

sort of, only worth getting them in this early if you fancy them as an asset or they can sit on your bench.

e.g. walcott has great fixtures leading up to gw31 and on form so good to get in now
i’m not sold on the stoke defence so will transfer one in only around gw30
