The Digest draws our coverage of Gameweek 26 to a close as we look to the latest player, team and talking point to catch our attention.

Aaron Ramsey steals the headlines as Henrikh Mkhitaryan and Pierre Emerick Aubameyang make their Emirates bows in the thrashing of Everton.

Elsewhere, we assess how Swansea’s progress under Carlos Carvalhal can carry them clear of the bottom three and provide us Fantasy managers with some timely bargains.

Meanwhile, we look at how the relentless consistency – and explosive output – of Mohamed Salah changes our view of premium-priced forwards.

The Player

Handed their first starts for Arsenal since arriving in the January transfer window, both Henrikh Mkhitaryan and Pierre Emerick Aubameyang immediately made their mark in the 5-1 home rout of Everton.

The Armenian international turned on the style, supplying three assists to soar to the top of the transfers-in charts ahead of Gameweek 27.

With Alexandre Lacazette shifted to the bench, Aubameyang’s extra pace and movement were all too evident up front, as the former Borussia Dortmund man opened his account with a finely-taken goal on 37 minutes.

Yet both were left trailing in the wake of Aaron Ramsey, who grabbed the headlines thanks to three goals and a career-high haul of 20 Fantasy Premier League (FPL) points against the hapless Toffees.

Back on the teamsheet in the previous Gameweek after a period on the sidelines through injury, the Welshman was quick to replicate the early-season exploits that produced three goals and eight assists in the opening 15 matches.

Thanks to Saturday’s output, Ramsey has now been involved in – scored or assisted – 44% of the Gunners’ goals when on the pitch this season. Mesut Ozil, meanwhile, sits at 27%.

In terms of consistency, Ramsey has produced points in nine of his last 14 starts.

An average of 5.8 points per match (ppm) is ranked fourth among FPL midfielders, with only premium-priced trio Mohamed Salah, Raheem Sterling and Kevin De Bruyne above him.

The statistics continue to impress when compared with his best ever FPL season in 2013/14. Ramsey is firing shots at a quicker rate (31.3 minutes compared to 35.3), while his efforts in the box (from 1.2 to 1.7) and big chances (from 0.3 to 0.6) also fare better.

Second only to Mkhitaryan for transfers in this week among midfielders, the only real deterrent is Arsenal’s next two fixtures – Arsene Wenger’s side face a north London derby trip to Tottenham before entertaining Man City.

Yet, as evidenced against Everton, Ramsey has the form to reward his early adopters, with a mere 4% of managers currently on board.

A closer look at the schedule shows that, from Gameweek 29 onwards, Arsenal face just one of the top six – away to Man United in Gameweek 36 – in the final 10 rounds of fixtures.

While Mkhitaryan and Aubameyang are bound to be among the key targets, Ramsey – at a cost of just 7.0 – more than merits his place in our plans.

The Team

Following a 5-0 Boxing Day hammering at Anfield in Gameweek 20, Swansea City’s prospects of remaining in the top-flight looked bleak at best.

Yet the arrival of Carlos Carvalhal has transformed the Welsh club’s fortunes and just six league matches later, they’ve already clambered out of the bottom three.

Saturday’s 1-1 draw at Leicester City extended their unbeaten run to four matches, with a single defeat – against Spurs – the only stain on the new manager’s record.

With back-to-back home wins over Liverpool and Arsenal also under their belt in January, Swansea are now braced for a very promising run that hands them every chance of maintaining their momentum.

Over the next eight Gameweeks, Carvalhal’s men have four favourable matches at the Liberty Stadium (BUR WHU SOT EVE), allied with trips to Brighton, Huddersfield and West Brom.

Investment in their regulars could well pay off.

At the back, Lukasz Fabianski remains the most reliable goalkeeper for saves – the Pole has made 102 stops, at least 17 more than any rival between the posts.

Centre-halves Alfie Mawson and Federico Fernandez have supplied a goal, an assist and a clean sheet apiece over the last three Gameweeks.

At 4.4 to Mawson’s 5.0, Fernandez is the more budget-friendly, yet he’s been anything but prolific. The Argentine’s weekend strike at the King Power was his first goal in the last two seasons, whereas Mawson has netted six league goals since last term.

Although there’s no standout candidates in midfield, Andre Ayew’s (6.8) arrival – his second stint at the club – may yet provide a solution.

Meanwhile, brother Jordan Ayew (5.3) has staked a significant claim as a third striker in our squads.

The second most bought forward this Gameweek ahead of a weekend visit from Burnley, the Ghana international now offers the perfect combination of form and fixtures.

He has scored three times in those six league matches under the new manager and also found the net in last month’s FA Cup win over Wolves.

The Talking Point

With almost every passing Gameweek, Mohamed Salah showcases his talents as a fire and forget captaincy option.

The Egyptian went into Sunday’s head-to-head with Harry Kane at Anfield having produced a goal or assist in 14 of his previous 16 league matches.

Yet for the sixth time in seven Gameweeks, it was Kane who ranked as the number one armband pick, handed the captaincy by 17.3% of FPL managers compared with Salah’s 13.1%.

While Kane fluffed one spot-kick before scoring another, and Sergio Agueroblanked at Burnley, Liverpool’s summer signing passed the test once again, bettering the Spurs man by 15 points to four at Anfield.

Salah’s brace and maximum bonus took him to 204 points in his debut Premier League campaign – with 12 Gameweeks still to go, that’s just 20 points behind Kane’s best ever season and 12 points off Aguero’s career-high haul.

He’s now braced for a schedule that pits Liverpool against just two of the top nine – away to Man United and Chelsea in Gameweeks 30 and 37 respectively – in the remaining 12 rounds of fixtures.

Arguably, we’ve reached the point where Salah’s prolific form and upcoming schedule is undermining Kane and Aguero as captaincy options.

And in turn, it again makes us ponder if the premium priced forward pairing are now struggling to justify their selection.

Granted, Fantasy managers owning just one of that pair will likely be happy to hold, but those with both Kane and Aguero – some 537,000+ – may now be reconsidering their options.

With Salah so ever-reliable as a captain, downgrading one of Kane or Aguero to a mid-price or budget forward, thus freeing up cash to strengthen elsewhere, could become the popular strategy.

And moves in just make my team weaker overall anyway. Won't want most after 31 don't like it.

I am happy with playing FH in 31.
I see below that FH maybe more valuable for another blank week. We just don't know though.

    looking ahead at GW31.
Stk and Eve play and Pool and Wat play.
The only other likely candidate is Bou vs Wat
I got an extra 23 points on my FH chip and was always worried about GW31.
However, The chances of having 3 pool, Wally, Shaq, a Watford mid and a possible Stoke defender/keeper is easily attainable.
A minimum of 7 players for the GW. is it really possible to get 23 points from the other 4 unless very lucky.
Am I kidding myself an looking through rose coloured glasses?

      Thanks for replies above.
I can see that getting through 31 without using FH and having it for second blank could be good
A WC it 32 could cover both dgws and the FH is still there for the last blank.
I like just don't know how much I would lose between now and 31 getting a team that gets 7 or 8 out in 31 over ignoring those 31 based moves in now and getting the team I want for short term fixtures.

Well the WC would discard your present choices. But if you had:
        Palace/Stoke Keeper
        Daniels/Ake, Pool defender, Palace/Stke Def
        Salah Shaq Wally
        Firmino Wilson
Above are 9 choices that would not hurt your team really.

Thanks. I am a lot more open to using FH in another blank other than 31 now.
Still don't know what is best.
I think best use of FH In either. may come down to whether the really big teams progress or not in the FA cup the "navigating blanks and doubles" articles notes this too.

I am open to the FH either in 31 or 35, for me it will greatly depend whether Bournemouth has a game

            ... a few issues though ...

Using up valuable transfers to get a GW31 team, opportunity cost ?

How many more points will I get in the run up to 31 from my existing players over and above bringing in players from teams that don’t blank ?

Using up valuable transfers to get rid of a GW31 team, opportunity cost ?

How many more points will I get in from my existing players over and above bringing in players from teams that don’t blank ?

A ‘7 or 8 player team’ can be a lot less with a few injuries or rotation on the day - no bench players coming in to save you ?

WC best used with BB to get (say) 12 DGW players, but gives a ‘bench heavy’ lop sided team so not great if you use it early in GW32/33 (money wasted on bench for many games)?

GW35 has only 4 blanks maximum and 3 of the top 6 have games - do we really need a FH that week to get out 11 very good players ?

I am taking a few hits to get 11 players in for gw31. Will wait to see after FA Cup games next week to plan my strategy in more detail. Hoping Saints knock WBA out, so I can keep my 2 Bournemouth players. A lot of the big team have hard games against each other in gws28-29, so ideal to get the likes of Walcott and Dealafeu in. Will then play my wc in gw32, as I can see a good transition into dbgw34. Gw35 my biggest concern, but hoping a few big teams are knocked out in quarters.

Stokes fixtures are not good enough to get one of their defenders in, clean sheets will be as scarce as hens teeth for those lads.

    A) Martina - Everton (CRY, wat, bur, BRI, sto)
    B) Fernandez - Swansea (BUR, bri, WHM, hud, SOU)
    C) Kongolo/Zanka - Huddersfield (BOU, wba, tot, SWA, CRY)
    D) Other

I also considered Burnley but with so many from their regular starters close to returning it's too risky to pick the budget options

    Which move?
    (A) Lingard (new) to Walcott (CRY) and then bench Son (ARS)
    (B) Save FT and play Son and bench Lingard (or the other way around)

    Pope Fabianski
    Ota, Alonso, Daniels
    Walcott, Sanchez, Salah, Sterling, Stanislas
    Kane, Wilson

    Ayew, Bauer, Bardsley

Probably a good idea to roll the transfer this gw?

A little bothered by so much Bournemouth but high risk versus high reward I guess.

Which keeper to play and captain my biggest issues this gw.

Any and all opinions welcome. 🙂

Stupidly used my FH earlier this season. Which teams players should I be loading up on for 31?

      You'll have a good idea before GW28.

http://www.fantasyfootballscout.co.uk/2018/01/30/navigating-the-blanks-and-doubles/ is a basic guide for the moment.

        Hi TM!
According to article Navigate the Blank and Doubles. How come Bournemouth v WBA likely to go ahead gw 31?
WBA v Southampton in FA Cup fifth round is 50/50 game?

If there any chance that SHU can beat LEI in the FA cup?
If it happens load up on Ars and LEI with no blank 31 and great fixtures and keep FH for the second blank.
Or is someone going to say don't want to make it easy for the "casuals". I would love this result with FH still intact.

Well the fact they actually play each other in 31 is not great but apart from that can't see another downside.

Yeah I know this result would make it a bit obvious and easy.
Planning required for carnage is where we can gain. Ok don't want this result 🙂

Have 2FTs, would like to use at least one with an eye on gw31. Which move is better to do this week?

    A) Otamendi>VVD
    B) Son>Walcott
    C) Ogbonna>Martina/Simpson/Fernandez?
    D) A+B
    E) A+C
    F) B+C

Are Walcott buyers not worried by Everton’s seeming lack of attacking threat?

    Alternative Blank Plan:

Like a lot of people on here I'm currently looking at loading up on Gw 31 assets to save my FH. Before I start considering the merits of Sir Peter Crouch I thought I should explore all options. Could a decent side be put together for the double in Gw 34 that allows a full XI to be played the following blank week? Meaning I can FH Gw 31.

If you used your WC in 33, BB in 34 that would mean you go into Gw 35 with 2 FT. Making it only 9 players needed for a full team.
Of the teams who def have a fixture in Gw 35 I would be seriously looking at Arsenal, Burnley and Palace whose dgw fixtures are:
    ARS - lei/new
    BUR - CHE/LEI
    CPL - hud/BRI
with maybe a glance at West Ham:
    WHU - MUN/STO

Food for thought. Would be interested in what other people think. Could completely skew my WC/BB thinking.

Is it really optimal though? You might be selecting sub-optimal players for the 4 game weeks preceding GW31

This is what I'd be avoiding with this plan and a FH in 31. The toss up is my sparkling 15 man team with 30 matches will be full of sub-optimal players, just to hit a full blank side.

You would have 1 FT in 35, not two.

Will have 2, One of gw 34 and one of 35. If he WC on 33 and does not make any transfers on 34.

Alonso / Ota / Jones (Mee / Kenny)
