With a reduced Gameweek 31 limiting the scope of Big Numbers, we’re taking a new route with our articles for members over the international break.

Our “Monitor” series will focus on some of the top transfer targets set to be involved in the Double Gameweeks and therefore included in Wildcard squads, as we analyse our data to offer an appraisal of their prospects.

We start the series by turning to Arsenal’s Pierre Emerick-Aubameyang, a player being lined up by many Fantasy managers as a ready-made replacement for the stricken Harry Kane.

Over 114,000 acquired the Gabon international for Gameweek 31, despite the fact he was without a league fixture.

Since Saturday’s deadline passed and more Wildcards are wielded in anticipation of double Gameweeks, Aubameyang is the most bought player in Fantasy Premier League, collecting a further 110,00 new owners.

With that in mind, we take a look at his impact since arriving at the Emirates over the winter break.

Handed a debut in Gameweek 26, Aubameyang has bagged three goals, an assist and 26 FPL points in five league outings – averaging 5.2 points per match.

Paul Is certain he won't make the same mistakes next season. Follow them on Twitter

xG is a great addition to this site. It has completely changed the way Aubameyang is analysed in this article.

Agreed. My only bugbear (not of this site) is that shouldn't be called 'expected'.

That's the beauty of it - some players look appealing based on it and turn xG into goals in the coming weeks after you get them in ahead of the curve, while some players have a crap xG but keep scoring so you get them in too. Win win!

Yeah next GW is 2 weeks away, so potentially can drop 0.6. No idea how thresholds are changed or if they are over international breaks.

Quite a weak midfield though and I'm looking to take another few hits to prepare for 34 anyway. Wondered if it was worth catching a good city game and ditching a bench asset (shaq or Walcott who I don't want long term)

    Lukaku Aubameyang Murray

Gw32 bench Son (jfk v HUD)
    Gw33 bench Kenedy
    Gw34 Murray to Ayew, BB
    Gw35 Free Hit
Gw36 Auba & Mustafi to Kane & Enabler (play Kenedy WBA)
Gw37 Salah & Ayew to Vardy & Gross/Stan. TC Kane
Gw38 Mahrez to Salah and win mini league

The problem with Aubameyang for me is that he is playing for Arsenal and Arsenal's only chance of redemption is to win the Europa cup. So the league matters not a lot by comparison. Players will be rested where necessary. So will Auba get the chances?

You could argue the same for Lukaku with the Champions League but Man Utd have far more depth in the squad to support Lukaku

haha nice 1, united might rotate a few players prior to the fa cup semi but kaku wont be one of them depends on who he has behind him though same as auba i think both teams will do good over the double gws regardless of personnel

With Wilshere, Ramsey, Ozil, Iwobi, Mkhi and Lacazette fighting for 3-4 slots in Europa league, that leaves a little bit of creativity to overflow into the premier league, plus some players will start in both, and others may sub in towards the ends of games.

I agree with your point: basically that we can overestimate the chance of Arsenal maintaining their attacking verve in the PL. But I also think we need to be careful not to underestimate the playing time of important players, or the ability of the likes of Iwobi (or whoever it'll be) to fill the gap in the 2nd-choice PL starting XI.

Thanks - it's the risk I'm looking at with Auba whereas Lukaku is equally in form and will play every game with a strong support cast.

@Alnair When Earn You Spurs says, "will Auba get the chances?", he means, 'will he get the chances to score', not 'will he get the chances to play'. This is because he is not going to have the best possible Arsenal team supporting him, since they will be saved for Europa 🙂

They can’t abandon the league. Still need 6th to guarantee Europa next season, although 7th will probably do it. 2 defeats though and Burnley and Leicester with good fixtures can catch them.

      Surely Atletico win the Europa

looking at the WCposted on there is a template forming. Short term fixtures and with doubles has lead me to look at West Ham and Brighton. I know form is an issue but i think there is value in getting in one off:

    1. Arnie
    2. Gross
    3. izquierdo

Or is the consensus more value in going for the cheaper Gumdardson and Ki? I just seem a bit heavy already on Swansea defenders (& GK) and Barnes up top. Brighton interest me for goals given there horrid run in at the end of the season, surely they will target the next 3 for points

Another slightly different WC build... what does everyone think of a good old fashioned 4-4-2?

    De Gea

    Alonso Bailly Christensen Lowton

    Salah Son Mahrez Willian

    Lukaku Aubameyang

    Bench:

    Fabianski Kenedy Chilwell Barnes

My thinking here is that while most teams will have De Gea and 1 of Alonso or Christensen it could be rather profitable to double on Man U and Chelsea defences and also keep a strong midfield and strike pairing

Am I the only one that doesn’t get the hype for Christensen?

I know he’s a cheap option into the Chelsea defence however he’s done nothing amazing but pissed off a lot of fantasy players earlier during the season with early subs and absence from line ups. If you were to get a Chelsea defender though they barely get a clean sheet wouldn’t you invest into potential attackimg returns turning your attention to the likes of Alonso or even Azpilicueta?

    1. Going Home
      • 14 Years

For me it's a case of not wanting to spend over £5m in the hope of clean sheets. If you want to spend on a defender, get one who is big on attacking returns/bonus (Alonso/Jones - when fit!)

Wouldn’t touch him even if he was on penalties after the trolling he put me through over Christmas. Absolutely hate him, as irrational and unfair to him as that may be!

I’m sticking with Alonso. You get what you pay for, he’s fun to watch when you own and much more secure. Alonso or none of them imo.

Exactly. For people like me who don't have a huge team value I see buying Alonso over Willian a great advantage. Attacking points and clean sheet points. Downgrade Willian to someone like Kenedy and the rest of the squad can be bought as you will.

Robertson and Alonso playing almost left wing plus one of the other three each week? They all seem reasonably nailed, One has one DGW, another has two DGWs and the other plays in GW35. I don't really see the issue

        1. Football Rambler

Chilwell is definitely not nailed. He’s a liability and I’d prefer to see Fuchs playing more as a Leicester fan.

Would ditch Robertson for someone with a double personally

Liability or not, he's made the hour in seven of Lei***ter's last eight league fixtures, and in 13 of their last 17. Not saying he's a fan's favourite by any stretch, but that isn't the name of the game

While other teams have a DGW in 34, Robertson plays at home to Bournemouth. Decent chance of cs and not impossible that he gets attacking returns. Not sure there's a defender at 4.9 I'd back to make that many with a DGW (and trust me, I've been looking!). Happy to switch him up/bench him in GW37 when they play Chelsea
