After starting our series of membersโ€™ articles on Wildcard targets with a look at Pierre Emerick-Aubameyang, our sights turn to another in-demand frontman.

With Harry Kane and Sergio Aguero currently nursing injuries, Romelu Lukakuโ€™s recent resurgence has not gone unnoticed by Fantasy Premier League managers.

Three goals and a pair of assists in the last five Gameweeks, allied with a trio of strikes over four cup outings in the same timeframe, means that the Man United striker is the second most bought player in FPL ahead of Gameweek 32.

Following a barren autumn period, Lukaku seems to have stepped up his output following the arrival of Alexis Sanchez.

With two double Gameweeks anticipated for the Red Devils, can the Belgian claim a place in our frontlines for the run-in?

Paul Is certain he won't make the same mistakes next season. Follow them on Twitter

    Thoughts on this WC team?

    Schmeichel (Fabianski)
    Ota Smalling vDijk Christ (Mee)
    Mikhi Stanislas Salah (Cork McArthur)
    Lukaku Firmino Auba

Horrible midfield - not for me.

Mkhi could be rotated with the EL, everyone is losing Bournemouth players on WC, Corl and McArthur are guaranteed 1-2 points every week.

Too much rotation amongst your defence, VVD doesn’t have a DGW.
Switch Schmeichel and Smalling for DDG and someone else.
      Better midfielder option than Mkhi.
      Forwards are fine.

Austin closing in on a return: “It’s been a frustrating time, being injured. It wasn’t like being out for two weeks – it’s been 14 weeks now,” he said. “I was in such good form and that was the hard thing, because I’d had to bide my time for ages to get in." #SaintsFC

Lukaku and a mid. thats one of the main reasons Ive gone lukaku. If I had auba as highest priced Id have to fine over 2m which is a lot harder. Plenty of players in there that I'm happy to ditch aswell which allows for flexibility as you don't get emotionally attached.

Ignore above, didn't realise it had a Vardy up top - replace with Firmino imo - Lei***ter won't score enough goals to justify double up (hell, I'm bypassing their attack entirely!)

Firmino is a bit of a reach since I havent had him since december. finding an extra million means decreasing a mid which I don't want to do. With those fixtures though I think leicester can score goals. I would obviously love to get Firmino, a little worried about mins though considering UCL

With what you have, Vardy is probably the best option up top. Maybe think about a City mid in place of Mahrez to avoid the double up and using extra funds on defence?

In the 3-5-2 draft I had a city mid instead of King. I know they could hurt me but you're basically getting him for 2 weeks. A lot depends on fixtures and still might swing to the 3-5-2 approach but the key is having flexibility

If you don’t have your FH saved, get a DGW defender in for Robertson. Don’t let your personal bias hinder you.

      1. Going Home
        • 14 Years
        8 years, 4 months ago

Out of interest, which DGW defender (costing £5m or less) do you see outscoring the Liverpool left winger at home to Bournemouth?

        1. HamezMace
          • 12 Years
          8 years, 4 months ago

This depends on what the DGWs are.
Bournemouth are quite an attacking team so that game will certainly be on my ‘both teams to score’ accumulator that weekend.
Yes, Robertson could get an assist, but I feel there will be better options, to be confirmed when the fixtures are confirmed.

          1. Going Home
            • 14 Years

Let me re-phrase: Which defender, at less than £5m, who has a DGW to play, would you back to outscore Robertson at Liverpool? I agree, Bournemouth are decent going forwards, but Liverpool looking much better at the back. Not to mention that, GW37 aside, Liverpool have excellent fixtures.

My plan is to keep Robbo until 37 and then look to see if there's a better option for the DGW (and 38)

            1. @FPL_liverbird (liverpoolfa…
              • 10 Years
              8 years, 4 months ago

I think robertson won't make it to GW37 I will look for other assets by then but initially he looks enticing. I would go Smalling but he's not nailed and I don't like that going into a DGW. If he becomes nailed with return of Bailly and Jones I may switch.

              That’s a solid plan for 37/38.
If the original poster is planning the same thing, and can also FH in the 34DGW then Robertson is fine.

My opinion on defenders is not to rely on them for attacking returns, but rather chances of a CS.
As I say I don’t see Liverpool keeping a CS against Bournemouth, and there will be at least 8 teams who will two chances of getting a CS that week....once the fixtures are confirmed I’ll be able to make a better judgement on who that might be.

      2. @FPL_liverbird (liverpoolfa…
        • 10 Years

Thought about it and that maybe will be my GW34 move (if its confirmed as best BB week). Great fixtures initially and I did have Smalling before but his potential rotation with Bailly and Jones back scares me. I would prefer a United double up for the DGWs

        1. HamezMace
          • 12 Years

Valencia/DDG are the only nailed options really. Bailly probably the preferred central options, but too much competition to say with any certainty. Rojo just signed a new deal, and earned praise from Mourinho too +Smalling, Jones, Lindelof, minefield.

Yeah and its a bit annoying as I preferably want double UTD def as they are obviously strong and the fixtures look like 2 CS. hopefully we can see some consistency and Jose say "everyone is fit at the back, and my starting pair is Smalling, bailly e.g." that would clear my gw34 move up quickly

Ha, that would be nice...but I guarantee he won’t give anything away.
More likely he will play a youth team CB to add to his statistics of ‘giving youth a chance’, and trying to convince the board he needs another £300m to buy the players he needs this summer.

username should indicate you opted for Firmino instead of Vardy but apart from that looks good in general. van der hoorn is one of the worst players i´ve seen in the epl but if he stays in the team he is a pick of value. robertson is a pick many will overlook, i think he can outscore many of those mentioned so far, even with less games in hand. saving a transfer in 33 will also serve well to make adjustments before the dgw (which we assume will be gw34). personally i´ve stayed with firmino and leaning more towards a 3-5-2, but that´s down to preferences. problem with 5 in midfield is actually that im not overly confident of whom to choose as the fifth-)

      1. @FPL_liverbird (liverpoolfa…
        • 10 Years
        8 years, 4 months ago

Yeah I know it should indicate that but it hasn't haha. Exactly my plan in GW33 so that if there are any standouts/UTD def CB sticking together I can make a double move in GW34. I have a WC draft made for 3-5-2 as well and fixtures my make me swing to it but this team just looks balanced and very nice on paper. Firmino a no brainer to keep if you got him cheap.

For 3-5-2 your main questions to be asked are:
-power 5 mid (e.g. salah, son, mahrez, silva, willian) vs big 4mid and a lower priced 5th mid and use the funds elsewhere
-people with lower budget, lukaku or no lukaku in a 3-5-2 and a strong power 5 mid

Any thoughts on this? REasonably set up for DGW34 and 37, however the fixtures fall and easy to bring Kane back if I choose. Also will be able to get 10 out in GW35 without a hit:

    Cech McCarthy
    Alonso Robbo Lowton Chilwell Mariappa
    Sterling Son Salah Willian King
    Firmino Aubameyang Lukaku

    £0.0 itb

(No Mahrez is deliberate, don't see Lei***ter scoring as many as others seem to)

Leicester will have a much worse defensive record than an attacking record, Chilwell needs to leave. Don't see Arsenal doing too well defensively either. No Utd defence?

Chilwell there basically as an enabler. Has the extra fixtures and only 4.3.

I disagree re Arsenal defence - think their fixtures bode well for reasonable returns (also play 35 and have a decent DGW).

I would like United defensive cover - but think DDG extortionate at 5.9 and Bailly and Valencia only nailed defenders when Jones comes back into the fold.

No bench boost? Because I don't see great returns from Chilly, King, Mariappa. Do agree re Utd though, DDG is overpriced. I'm thinking of Bailly or Valencia anyway, but it is quite difficult.

Will use BB in whichever is the bigger DGW. Will be able to get out at least 11 with a DGW and the SGW players will have reasonable fixtures (or be Salah and Firmino lol)

As mentioned above, I think Alonso is too expensive, especially considering currently form.
      Robertson, again discussed above.
Only other concern I’d have would be Sterling playing time, but that’s a risk with lots of teams still in other competitions

      1. Going Home
        • 14 Years

Fundamentally disagree on Alonso - I guess it's a question of taste. And Robbo - see our discussion above haha

Sterling is a big concern - I'm basically clinging to a) he is capable of returns even from the bench b) he has had a few weeks off prior to international break c) hopefully his lack of defensive ability means that he misses out in UCL v Liverpool in favour of Silva (B), who is more likely to track back

Fair enough on Alonso, as I said above, I pick defenders for anticipated defensive returns, rather than hopefully attacking returns. But down to choice as you say.

Sterling has been first choice for most of the season so I expect him to play CL games, City don’t really do tracking back, more of a high press to stop teams playing out, and Sterling does this well. As you say he could still get returns from the bench.

Andre Ayew, Arnie, Lanzini, JWP, Tadic types etc ... all examples of cheap enablers that are missing from WC teams ... no love ?

Andre Ayew not that cheap. Of those, Arnie and Lanzini are the only ones I would consider, but WHU are absolute tripe at the moment

You just know that these nostalgia type picks will explode in the doubles and the FFS axis of Willian, Son, Mahrez etc will fall flat as a flounder ๐Ÿ™‚

As long as Mahrez struggles, I'll be happy lol. It would be hillarious to see comments on here if Tadic (or Gabbiadini!) racked up a DGW haul

Will Klopp view Clyne as 1st choice RB with TAA as back up and try and utilise Gomez at CB?
