After a long wait, we finally received confirmation of Double Gameweek 34 this afternoon.

Planning and preparation now gets underway in earnest as we assess the best ways to tackle the run-in after eight teams were handed a pair of fixtures in Gameweek 34.

Confirmed Double Gameweek 34 schedule
Bournemouth (liv MUN)
Brighton (cry TOT)
Burnley (LEI CHE)
Chelsea (sot bur)
Leicester (bur SOT)
Man United (WBA bou)
Southampton (CHE lei)
Spurs (MCI bha)

This leaves six matches still requiring a new date.

Chelsea vs Huddersfield
Leicester vs Arsenal
Man City vs Brighton
Swansea vs Southampton
Tottenham vs Newcastle
West Ham vs Man United

The Premier League have confirmed that these will be rescheduled by Tuesday April 3 – before Gameweek 33 – though it is now expected that those 12 teams will now face a Double Gameweek 37.

Providing they drop in Gameweek 37, the schedule would be as follows:

Potential Double Gameweek 37 schedule
Arsenal (BUR lei)
Brighton (MUN mci)
Chelsea (LIV HUD)
Huddersfield (mci che)
Leicester (WHU ARS)
Man City (HUD BHA)
Man United (bha whu)
Newcastle (wat tot)
Southampton (eve swa)
Swansea (bou SOT)
Tottenham (wba NEW)
West Ham (lei MUN)

This is the reverse of the previous school of thought, which had many managers making plans based on the assumption that 12 teams would be playing twice in Double Gameweek 34.

The surprise switch in today’s fixtures may now have many managers reassessing their plans for the run-in, particularly those who still have one or more of the Wildcard, Bench Boost and Free Hit chips in hand.

Earlier this week it was revealed that this is thought to be 12% of the top 10,000 managers and an estimated 20% of “active” managers.

Significantly, some 52,000+ have already played their Wildcard since the Gameweek 31 deadline passed, perhaps expecting that the likes of Arsenal and Man City to also be handed a Double Gameweek 34. Indeed, Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang is the most signed ahead of a return to domestic action, claiming over 125,000 new owners so far.

Immediately, you can see that today’s confirmation has made matters far more difficult for those without the Free Hit chip who were targeting the Gunners’ striker for an expected Double Gameweek 34.

Arsenal were previously one of six teams – along with Burnley, Man City, Newcastle, Swansea and West Ham – who were all expected to have a Double Gameweek 34 and also play in Gameweek 35.

Now, however, that applies only to Burnley.

Without the Free Hit, managers will have to balance their building for the Double Gameweek and then use transfer hits to repair the squad ahead of the Gameweek 35 postponements. What’s more, with the likes of Arsenal and Man City treated to favourable fixtures, a Free Hit in Gameweek 35 could prove even more devastating than the success story that was Gameweek 31.

Certainly, for those still holding their Bench Boost chips, Gameweek 34 was the favoured window prior to today’s reveal.

Now, though, with five of the top six sides – Arsenal, Chelsea, Man City, Man United and Spurs – all likely to play twice in Gameweek 37, some will be setting their sights on the latter round instead.

Indeed, City, United and Spurs all face a pair of opponents outside of the top eight and will clearly offer huge points potential.

Much depends on the state of your squad, of course, and the number of chips still at your disposal. Indeed, this afternoon’s news could provide food for thought for those managers who avoided “dead-ending” their squads in Gameweek 31 and have yet to play the Wildcard.

Should they now favour Double Gameweek 37, they could now play the Free Hit Chip in Double Gameweek 34, with the Wildcard in Gameweek 36 and Bench Boost in Gameweek 37.

On the other hand, while the allure of Double Gameweek 37 may be greater on paper, the reality could be that, by then, many of the sides may have little to play for in the league.

Those Bench Boosting in Double Gameweek 37 will be relying on many teams still being motivated and therefore less prone to rotation, yet there’s a chance that the fight for survival and battle for top-four finishes could be done and dusted by then.

Meanwhile, Arsenal, Chelsea, Man City, Man United and Spurs could all still be involved in cup competitions come Double Gameweek 37.

In the case of Man City and Arsenal, the Champions League and Europa League semi-final second legs are in the midweek before the start of Double Gameweek 37. Meanwhile, the Europa League final is just three days after Gameweek 38.

Chelsea, Spurs and Man United all still have hopes of clinching the FA Cup, with the final taking place on May 19 – six days after the end of the season.

You only have to look back to Double Gameweek 37, where Antonio Conte named the following XI at home to Watford in the second of Chelsea’s matches, with one eye on the FA Cup final on May 27.

Begovic; Zouma, Ake, Terry; Azpilicueta, Chalobah, Kante, Kenedy; Hazard, Willian; Batshuayi

While those who opt to Bench Boost in Double Gameweek 34 may have fewer big-hitting, explosive options to load up on, their squads could be less likely to suffer from unexpected teamsheets as fringe players get the chance of a run-out in the penultimate Gameweek.

With Harry Kane potentially still in the running along with the likes of Romelu Lukaku, Eden Hazard, Christian Eriksen and Riyad Mahrez, it’s not as if we’ll short of premium, in-form picks for Double Gameweek 34.

Arguably, then, Fantasy managers who are looking to lessen the likelihood of rotation – and avoid a repeat of instances such as Conte’s infamous XI – may look to using an early Wildcard in Gameweek 32 or 33 in order to profit from the security of Double Gameweek 34 instead.

Choosing when to play the Triple Captain chip will also impact in our plans.

Looking at the main contenders in Double Gameweek 34, Kane – if fit – hosts Man City, Mahrez and Hazard have Burnley away, while Lukaku, although in form, has been far from explosive and managed three double-digit returns all season.

On the other hand, Kane’s Double Gameweek 37, away to West Brom and at home to Newcastle, could prove the big factor in deciding when to play our Triple Captain chip and therefore also our Bench Boost.

Granted, we won’t forgot this season’s Double Gameweek 22 in a hurry – the Spurs striker returned just three points against Swansea and West Ham – yet Kane’s exploits in the corresponding round last term will live far longer in the memory.

Five goals and an assist over 180 minutes’ pitch-time against Man United and Leicester in Double Gameweek 37 preceded a hat-trick at Hull in the season finale to clinch the Golden Boot.

Even if he fails to overcome Mohamed Salah as the top scorer in 2017/18, a fully-fit Kane’s security of pitch-time makes him a big favourite for the Double Gameweek 37 Triple Captain chip.

Again, while Man City also have the fixtures – at home to Huddersfield and Brighton – if Pep Guardiola’s men wrap up the league title early and progress past Liverpool into the Champions League semi-finals, rotation looks inevitable.

Indeed, their head-to-head with the Merseysiders could ultimately prove decisive in how we approach the remaining rounds of fixtures.

Defeat to Liverpool would leave City with only league matches left on their agenda and that might not be a bad thing, even if the title is wrapped up by that point.

As discussed on club’s official website earlier in the week, Guardiola’s men have as many as ten Premier League records in their sights.

Incentive enough, surely, to limit the chances of rotation should they fall to defeat and fail to reach the last four in Europe.

I think the DGW announcements have worked in favour of those using WC in GW32 or GW33, then BB in GW34, FH in GW35 and TC in GW37. Those who have already used their FH chip are shrewd with only Burnley having a DGW34 and a game in GW35, and those who are using FH in GW34 have to carry most of last weeks make weights though GW 32, 33 and 35.

Sorry but I have to disagree. I think I can get great teams out in gw34 gw35 and gw37 with no free hit chip in gw35. Will need a bit of work but can be done. Fixtures were a bit of a shock though. Was going to bb in gw34 but now likely to tc in gw34 and bb in gw37

Who are your cheap 5th mid picks for DGW34 BB?

      Bournemouth - playing v liv + MUN
Brighton - no one really below 5.9, maybe Stephens 4.5
      Burnley - Gudmundsson 5.1, Cork 4.5 (probably 2x3pts max.)
      Chelsea - Kante 4.9...
Leicester - Albrighton 5.6 the cheapest one who could get more than 2x3?
      Man.United - Matic 4.7, Young 4.9... 2x3pts? Precious United spot (DDG, Lukaku + maybe a defender)?
      Southampton - JWP 5.1 maybe?
      Spurs - Dier 4.7 (same as Matic/Young), Dembele 4.9

(only looking at DGW players here)

Remaining fixtures rearrangement has just made it a bit boring. Will BB in DGW34 and TC DGW37. FH would have made things much easier but its gone now.

Get at least 7 players for gw35? Think you will need more than that. Gw35 could be very high scoring with teams like Man City Arsenal and Liverpool involved

How does this WC look? Will BB 34 FH 35 and TC 37, Kane TC in 37 is too good to turn down

13 DGWs for GW34 with this

      DDG Ryan
      Azpi Smalling Morgan Tarkowski Naughton
      Mahrez Salah Willian Son Gross

Guys I’m now leaning towards BB37 with 12 DGW teams with better fixtures.

BB34 only consists of MUN,CHE,LEI and Son. I think an 11 can max out the DGW. Especially If you go premiums like Hazard/Bailly/Lukaku/Mahrez and Vardy with a cheap bench.

Whereas BB37 consists of Fabianski/Arnie/Auba/Kane/City potentials. I know BB37 is difficult to gauge lineups but i feel that is far more lucrative than BB34.

I've WC'd but still may work towards TC with 10 DGW'ers and Salah in GW34, FH in GW35 and BB with 14 DGW'ers and Salah in GW37. It looks more than viable if the players you bench in GW34 have a DGW37.

It comes down to I think it’s quality over quantity of choices for 34.

I would rather have Hazard/Alonso for DGW34 than DGW37 (LIV/HUD). I can triple up on ManU and Leicester assets.

DGW37 gives u looks from WHM/SWA/ARSENAL/TOT/CITY with all good fixtures. The only problem is only 2FTs to fix up the BB37.

No BB34 allows you to consider Hazard (key differential) and Alonso plus double up ManU defense. Quality over quantity is the DGW34 game

The big question for me on WC is which 3 strikers to get to balance the team with a Bench Boost in mind for GW34. The main options I feel are below and once I lock these 3 in I feel I can easily set the rest of my team. Who do you guys think are the best combo and why?

      Lukaku
      Aubameyang
      Vardy
      Firmino
      Barnes
      Murray

I think Auba and Firmino score best over the next 2. Lukaku this GW looks very strong but 33 is the toughest of all. Then although I’m not Vardy’s biggest fan his next two seem decent and he has the 34 double. Barnes and Murray look decent enablers. Then there is a possible place holder for Harry’s return!!

This front 3 decision I feel will make or break the rest of my season.

Any input would be great 🙂

        Auba Lukaku Barnes/Murray

The season is going to end with 2 heavy hitter strikers atleast given how the fixtures fall and Kane’s returns. It will be tough upgrading Vardy later.

You can sell Auba for Vardy in 34 and then bring Kane back in 36 easily.

Wildcard, Bench Boost and Triple Captain still available, Free Hit gone.

I'm thinking the best strategy for me is to get 8 DGWers + triple Pool for GW34 using transfers (no hits needed) and play TC that week. This would then allow me to play my WC in GW35, mitigating my lack of FH and setting up for a BB in GW37. Shouldn't be too difficult with the likes of Arsenal, City, Swansea and Newcastle playing in 35 and doubling in 37.

      Thoughts?

This. I know it's Mourinho's United but they're playing two of the worst defences in the league. Surely Lukaku TC isn't a "piss poor option for it".

Alternatively I could TC Salah at home to Stoke in GW36.

Great plan, I’m in a similar position but activated my Wc early:
I’m looking at BB in 34
        10 DGWs
5 Sgw Salah Robertson Aubameyeng Mkhitaryan Monreal
        2 FTs Gw35 (City assets)
2 FTs Gw37 + few hits to get 10+ Salah out - Triple Captain

So how many will you have in GW35? Triple Burnley to go with the Liverpool, Arsenal and City players I guess?

Lowton Tark Mustafi Robertson Salah Mkhitaryan Aubameyang Barnes + 2 FTs (City assets)
            Gives me 10

If you have 2 FT’s on GW35 and pull the FH trigger. Do you have 1 or 2 free for GW36?

How is this Kane emergency plan?

IF FIT for 34 Auba and Son to Kane and Gross
IF NOT FIT for 34 Auba to Vardy and bring in Kane for Vardy (-4) in gw 36.

      Thoughts?

      current WC Team: (A) - 0 ITB

      De Gea - Fabianski
      Morgan - Mee - Christensen - Bailly - VDH
      Mahrez - Son - Willian - Salah - DSilva
      Firmino - J Ayew - Aubamayang

      considering (B): - 0 ITB
      De Gea - Ryan
      Morgan - Mee - Christensen - Bailly - VDH
      Mahrez - Son - Willian - Salah - DSilva
      Vardy- J Ayew - Lukaku

TC already used (thx for the 3 pts, Kane). BB and FH available
      keep BB for GW 37?
A or B? Would love to get Vertonghen in, but that would mean sacrificing Vardy

37 HAS. to be TC. But is using BB in 34 that advantageous when all the smaller teams face tough competition in their second game ? For those who like myself have probably made the mistake to already trigger the wc, would it not be better to build up a team for 37 making sure there are enough players for 35 and use fh in 34 ?? I realise BB then becomes an issue but I think I might go down that way...

      Comments please guys?

      De Gea, Ryan
      Christensen, Bailly, Vertonghen, Chilwell, Lowton
      Willian, Salah, Son, Mahrez, Gross
      Barnes, Lukaku, Aubameyang

      14/15 with doubles in 34.

Then for 34 bring in Vardy.

Individual brilliance ( eg very good individual players but don't really click as a team) or average individuals but a complete team spirit ? Which brings success To a team?

yes look at a player like Roy Keane, he was not the best talented but passion and grit made him a legend. Meanwhile a lot of talent have gone to waste.

Do you think this is it? All players are capable of scoring FPL-wise. Going with 4.0 defender allows me this team, what do you think? It means I would be bench boosting with one non-player. On WC, BB, TC. and FH available

      de Gea/Ryan

      Alonso - Christensen - Lowton - Tarkowski- 4.0 defender

Willian - Son- Salah - Mahrez - Groß

      Lukaku - Aubameyang - Murray

Depends when you plan to BB I guess. Personally I'm looking at GW37 so you could probably find a cheaper and better option to Gross and then upgrade the defence instead?

Kenedy for instance has a better double and can cover one of Son / Willian this week.

I'm just little skeptical towards the last few gameweeks, many clubs have nothing to play for by then. And of course some who do. BB-ing in GW 34 seems to be safer.

Still seems a waste of a spot but I must admit your options are limited. Maybe Barnes for Murray and then bring in Morgan.

You could also rethink Alonso and bring in a Spurs or Utd defender to free up cash.

      A) Willian + Vertonghen
      B) Hazard + Mariappa

Watford some great home fixtures and play Huddersfield in 34, Hazard also a captaincy option in 34 (Southampton, Burnley)

      Hi all

How’s this WC team looking? My team value is pretty low £0 itb!

      Cech
      Christensen Smalling, Tarkowski, Fernandez, Morgan
      Salah, Son, Willian, Mahrez, Kenedy
      Lukaku, Aubameyang, Murray

This gives me 9 DGW players for 34 plus Salah (BOU) & Aubameyang (new) & then 13 DGW’s already for GW37 which I’d look to make 15 with my free transfers.

Smalling could become Jones by downgrading one of the other defenders to a cheaper teammate if needed.

      Thanks

My immediate reaction is that my BB team in gwk 34 won't be as good but I'm still free hitting in gwk 35 & I'm still TCing Kane in Gwk 37.

No need for the Swansea enablers is annoying though
