Earlier in the week, our recent series of Monitor members’ articles on Wildcard ran the rule over both Pierre Emerick-Aubameyang and Romelu Lukaku, the two most bought forwards ahead of Gameweek 32.

Next up in our assessment is Riyad Mahrez, the second most bought midfielder ahead of Leicester City’s expected pair of Double Gameweeks.

Despite finding himself out of favour in the early months – due to a lofty 8.5 opening price tag and disappointing previous season – the Algerian has turned back the clock to rediscover the heights of his dominant 2015/16 campaign.

Now sitting fourth among midfielders in Fantasy Premier League (FPL) with 161 points, Mahrez has proven himself to once again represent a consistent top-end choice. Meanwhile, double-digit hauls in successive Gameweeks underpin the Algerian’s explosive potential as a differential captaincy option for managers willing to swim against the tide.

With an incredibly obliging run to end the season – including two Double Gameweeks and a slew of favourable matchups (Leicester’s next six fixtures will match them against Brighton, Newcastle, Burnley, Southampton, Crystal Palace and West Ham) – the winger will be a staple among Wildcard squads.

Ha, to Mahrez or not to Mahrez is the question 😮

Mahrez means unnecessary hits in some gameweek for Kane which I probably wont take 😳

Mahrez seems to be one the most important players to own from now on.
Kane is a big if now and we don't know when he may return and if he'll form.
      Get Mahrez.

    All chips left except TC.
    Probably-
    WC this GW (already activated).
    FH 35
    BB 37

    DDG, Ryan.
    Christensen, Vert, Morgan, Mee, Smalling.
    Mahrez, Salah, Gross, Son, Willian.
Barnes, Aubameyang, Firmino 8.5m (May change to Vardy-1.6m if so).
    1.3m in bank.

    Thoughts?

        Firmino + Auba > Lukaku + Barnes.

Or could plan earlier and do this squad and save 2FT for 34, just do Auba > Lukaku and then have 2FT for 35. Leaves me 3.8m ITB to play with (probably too much!) -

        DDG, Ryan
        Alonso, Smalling, Robertson, Morgan, Lowton

      Ryan good for 6-10pts

I've gotta disagree with this. It can work just fine. Obviously it will hurt in 1 isolated GW, but over a bunch of GWs if you have a double defence from a good team you're in the points.

Then it comes to whether Robertson/Double burley/double Chelsea for the last defensive spot.

Christensen @5.3 would be better than Ward/Robertson/Mee with better 34 fixtures and 37 double

...or you could just get Aubameyang and keep him right through?
GW32-35 I'd back him to out-score Lukaku and it's not as if GW34 is bad for him.

Sometimes the perspective goes. FPL isn't about maximising points over 1 week, it's about maximising points over 38 weeks. GW34 isn't the be all and end all.

Hows this WC plan? No FH chip to navigate 35 forced me into sgw players for 34..my only real concern is no spurs..stanislas could also be groß

Gw34 BB: 8 x DGW + 7 x SGW (karius holebas tomkins mili salah firm auba)

    Gw35: 8 + 2FT

    Gw37: TC

    DDG karius
    Alonso lowton morgan tomkins holebas
    Salah mahrez willian stanislas milivojevic
    Lukaku firmino aubameyang

with no chips I would get at least another Burnley (who have a DGW34 and a game in GW35) in there.

Holebas and Milo to Tartowski and Gudmundsson gives you

      Gw34 BB: 10 x DGW + 5 x SGW (karius mili salah firm auba)

      Gw35: 8 + 2FT

      Gw37: TC

On wildcard, finding it hard not to include any ManCity mids, but isn't a midfield of Salah Mahrez Son Mkhi Willian great?
I plan to bring Gross after gw32 or after gw33, probably in the place of Mkhi, but Mkhi's next 2 matches may have many points in them.

I'm not entirely convinced WIllian is a good option.

Gw33 could see rotation for mkhi..

David Silva has left the Spain squad again for personal reasons. This is a bit of a concern if it's ongoing. I would've thought his baby would be ok by now but I'm no doctor obviously.

One of the comments I saw on a news site seemed spot on to me...

"Awfully good of them to supposedly 'allow' him home.

More like he said, I'm off as I have something infinitely more important to deal with. "

Wait for news. If he's back in Manchester before the weekend then he likely plays.

Where do we stand on Firmino now on Wildcards? Too much of a risk with the UCL qfs coming up and bookending GW33?

Keeping if you free hit 35 the fixtures are great. Gone 37 obviously.
