After looking over our favoured goalkeepers, defenders and midfielders in the newly-updated Watchlist rankings, our series of articles concludes with the strikers.

For those unfamiliar, the Watchlist offers mid-term player recommendations for the next four-to-six Gameweeks and beyond. They can be found in your sidebar on desktop, or via your slide-in menu on mobile or tablet.

These highlight our current thinking on player selection for each position, listing the factors that are contributing to the given rank.

With the top two scoring forwards in Fantasy Premier League (FPL), Harry Kane and Sergio Aguero, currently sidelined, Romelu Lukaku climbs to the summit of our rankings ahead of Manchester United’s anticipated pair of Double Gameweeks.

The most bought player over the recent domestic break, the Belgian has bagged three goals and a pair of assists in his last five league outings, supplementing this with five strikes in as many recent cup matches.

Although Jose Mourinho’s men face a trip to Man City and blank Gameweek 35 in the next four rounds of fixtures, they still offer three strong matches in that period – this weekend’s visit from Swansea and a Double Gameweek 34 (WBA bou).

Another double-header is expected in Gameweek 37, formed of trips to Brighton and Watford, which would precede a home clash with Watford. That means that Lukaku has the schedule to build on his improved output.

Arguably, though, it remains to be seen if he will stay a top target for our squads should Kane return ahead of Gameweek 34, with the Spurs striker surely set to return as the key premium target over the run-in.

Jamie Vardy also offers a pair of expected Double Gameweeks.

Having scored in seven of his last 11 league outings, the Leicester striker is now braced for three very favourable Gameweeks (bha NEW bur & SOT) before a blank in 35.

Vardy also goes head-to-head with Crystal Palace in Gameweek 36 and should have back-to-back home encounters with West Ham and Arsenal in Double Gameweek 37.

Indeed, such a schedule may persuade many to consider doubling up on Claude Puel’s attack, with Riyad Mahrez identically priced at 8.8 in Fantasy Premier League (FPL). As a result, Vardy is the third most bought forward ahead of Gameweek 32, with Mahrez second top for transfer in among midfielders.

Interest in Arsenal’s Pierre Emerick Aubameyang is also on the rise.

Ineligible for Europa League duties, the winter signing has played from start to finish in all five league matches since arriving at the Emirates Stadium, averaging 5.2 points per match thanks to three goals and an assist.

Over those fixtures (Gameweek 26-30), Aubameyang’s total of 11 efforts in the box is eight more than any team-mate, while he has been afforded five of their 11 big chances.

Encouragingly for Arsene Wenger’s side, they face just one of their top six rivals (STK SOT new WHU mun BUR hud) between now and the end of the season.

Should, as expected, a visit to Leicester drop into Double Gameweek 37 alongside their home match against Burnley, Arsenal will be one of only five teams – along with Man City, Swansea, West Ham and Newcastle – who play in Gameweek 35 to also offer a pair of matches in the penultimate round.

Glenn Murray is our favoured budget pick for Brighton’s anticipated pair of Double Gameweeks.

Five goals in six underline the veteran’s form as the Seagulls prepare for three home matches (LEI HUD cry & TOT) in the next trio of Gameweeks.

The one potential downside is that with expected matches against both Manchester sides in Double Gameweek 37, it remains to be seen whether Murray’s minutes will be managed – particularly if Chris Hughton’s side are safe by that point.

Identically priced at 6.0, playmaker Pascal Gross could be the safest route for those looking at just one Brighton attacker for the run-in.

Despite the lack of a Double Gameweek, Liverpool’s remaining schedule (cry eve BOU wba STK che BHA) looks conducive to further returns from Roberto Firmino.

Five goals and three assists in the last nine Gameweeks highlight the form that has made the Brazilian the most popular forward in FPL, with a 48.4% ownership well clear of second-placed Kane (29.4%).

Certainly, those without Wildcards or Free Hit chips will be reluctant to part company with Firmino, though as Double Gameweek 34 approaches, it may be that Mohamed Salah will be the only Liverpool player to avoid a mass exodus as we look to profit from those players with a pair of fixtures.

Having scored in each of his last three Gameweek appearances, Burnley’s Ashley Barnes merits a spot in our current update.

Priced at just 5.3 and owned by 2%, the frontman has started each of the Clarets’ previous 12 league matches. Crucially, he has played all but four minutes of their last nine, dispelling the idea that he could be rotated if Chris Wood (three goals in two) claims a role up top.

Sean Dyche’s side make a strong case for our Wildcards (wba wat LEI & CHE stk BHA ars BOU), though Johan Berg Gudmundsson (5.1) offers an alternative route in midfield.

Dwight Gayle and Callum Wilson also jostle for attention in the budget bracket.

Costing 6.1, Gayle is certainly the form player of the pair, bagging two goals and a pair of assists in Newcastle’s last four league fixtures.

However, with midfielder Kenedy setting us back a mere 4.7, interest in Gayle is minimal at best for a schedule that sees Rafa Benitez’s men square up to five of the top nine in their remaining eight matches.

Nonetheless, home matches with Huddersfield (Gameweek 32) and West Brom (Gameweek 36) and a trip to Watford in Gameweek 37 – which, on the downside, is likely to also involve a trip to Spurs – Gayle could still be in line to profit.

One goal in eight underlines Wilson’s (6.0) recent slump, yet the fixtures remain in his favour, to an extent. Back-to-back clashes against Watford and Crystal Palace precede Bournemouth’s Double Gameweek 34 (liv MUN), while Eddie Howe’s man also face Southampton and Swansea over Gameweek 36-37.

Back in training for Southampton, Charlie Austin’s fitness may well determine their top-flight fate.

Among forwards with more than one goal this season, Austin’s average of 99.8 minutes per strike is second fastest – sandwiched in between Aguero (93.1) and Kane (101.8).

Having netted six times in just five starts, he remains the Saints’ top scorer – despite being sidelined since Gameweek 19.

New manager Mark Hughes played with two up front in his first matches in charge, a 2-0 FA Cup win over Wigan, which bodes well for Austin’s potential as he steps up his recovery.

Given that the St Mary’s outfit are one of just six sides expected to be handed Doubles in Gameweek 34 and 37, their frontman’s eye for goal could offer value for money for those willing to gamble that he can steer clear of the treatment room from this point on.

Even if he does well in the next 2, I'll probably turn him to Lukaku for dgw34 to avoid hiding behind some huge couch in those 2 MUN fixtures.
Then FreeHit Auba just for 35, while I wouldn't want him for MUN away in 36.

Vert for me. Spurs have one-extra tricky fixture but it could be against a City team with the trophy already in the bag. And Spurs are better defensively anyway, and you don't get more nailed than Vert.

Austin, Barnes, Murray is my only remainign decision on WC.....bugging the hell out of me and needs to be done today because I go to the states tomorrow and can't be @rsed trying to workout transfer deadline/orice rise times with the time difference.

All 3 woudl be benched until DGW34 anyway.

Austin - not quite back yet
Barnes - saves cash - surely form can't continue though
Murray - great stats, have got Gross for 'cover', looks like best option, but makes Auba, Firm > Lukaku & Vardy very tight 0.3m spare

Currently leaning to Barnes but have Murray in place and has risen 0.1m

Well, here's quite a line from Mauricio Pochettino (sky sports)

Popular opinion was that Harry Kane had no chance of being ready to face Chelsea this weekend, but check this out from the Spurs boss:

    "We need to assess him.

"He is very positive and he is doing very well.

    "Every day he is improving.

"We need to assess him, it is still a few days until the game.

"I think it is difficult now to say yes or no, to be involved or not in the game.

"I cannot say no but I cannot say yes.

"If not this weekend, maybe next weekend but the most important is we are so positive about his recovery."

              • 8 Years

Yeh, it's a tricky decision. The downside to getting him in for 36, is that it's a guaranteed hit, following the FH 35.(Unless you keep loads of cash itb)

If I have 2 fts going into 34, I could get him in for free, and have him for 34 and onwards.

Lukaku looks a great option in the DGW34, but he's not shown an ability to haul too much this season and United's attack is not clicking recently, so I'm not too worried about him punishing me.

Depends on your squad structure. I'm tempted by expensive front 3 as I want Auba for next 2 and Vardy nailed for rest of season. Leads me to potentially lob Lukaku in as 3rd striker to make Kane move easier

      Up to you isn't it.

I was planning auba to lukaku in gw34 but have saved enough cash to get kane instead if he comes back early.

Yeah Chelsea game I'm not interested in having him but for GW 33 for sure I think will now need to get him in in 1 transfer. A Harry Kane after the golden boot is a dangerous player not to have in our teams

Yeah, this was always my plan. I'm doing Mkhi and Auba to Gudmund and Lukaku for 34, which frees up enough cash for Kane without a hit for 36. I could of course get him in 34 instead of Kaku, but I honestly think I'd prefer Big Rom for the double.

No way I could get Kane and Kaku together for 34, and Kaku seems the safer bet. I'm very excited about my two-week Auba-Mkhi show. I think it's going to be groovy.

I wouldn't panic, just aim to get him back for 34 at the latest and dare to go without of he is fit for Stoke. He never comes back from injury and hits the ground running, just look at the last DGW.

I know what you mean about the last DGW however, I think back to last year around this sort of time when he came back from an injury and went and got 12 points against Bournemouth in his first game back.

Fair point, selective memory on my part, if fit for Stoke it would be tempting to bring him straight back but leaving that much cash itb 'just in case' feels wasteful. I think I'll wait for 34.

Definitely probably the best move. I just don't have a big enough sofa to hide behind in my lounge if he's starting against Stoke :')

Also, City aren't Bournemouth. He might kill Brighton, but I think Kaku will get returns from his two games anyway.

"We need to assess him, it is still a few days until the game. I think it is difficult now to say yes or no, to be involved or not in the game.

"I cannot say no but I cannot say yes. If not this weekend, maybe next weekend, but the most important thing is we are so positive about his recovery."

Interestingly Gross could be the only one nailed rather than Mkhi, Son or Willian.

Posting this again. How would you improve this?

Got myself a little plan and i like it a fair bit i think. 1.3 itb at the moment and i'm going to leave this here.

    Dubravka*^ Fabianski*
    Mustafi*^ Otamendi*^ Dummett*^ Mawson* Robbo^
    Mahrez* Mkhi*^ Sane*^ Salah^ Kenedy*^
    Auba*^ Bobby^ Austin*

    Mahrez -> Son in 33.
    FH in 34.
11 in 35 with Mawson as a sub.
12 DGWers for 37 already and enough dosh for Kane.

Figuring how to accommodate Alonso in there.

Maybe Bobby to Vardy & Mawson to Fernandez/Naughton then Otamendi or Mustafi out for Alonso if you can afford ? You not concerned about Mustafi rotation ?

Out if interest, did you end up captaining Mane during 31 as planned ?

Not sure im really in a position to be offering someone with your FPL pedigree advice but hope it was helpful.

Re Mane, I respect your decision there, very bold and could have paid off with Mane matching Salah's stats for a number of weeks now. Sadio is the definition of an explosive player on his day.

I am very tempted by Mkhi and Mustafi but concerneed about rotation so prob side stepping. Good luck with your WC.

Embarrassingly template lol. I'm on WC, BB34, FH35, TC37 most likely.

Roll transfer in 33, sell Gross for King or alt Son for anyone up to 6.2 (Albrighton, Lingard, Gud etc) to enable Aubameyang to Kane.
GW37 - Kaku sold for Aubameyang.

              DDG, Ryan
              Alonso, Vert, Dunk, Lowton, Morgan
              Salah, Son, Gross, Willian, Mahrez
              Aubameyang, Lukaku, Barnes

              P.s. there is pedigree 🙂

    De Gea, Ryan
    Alonso, Cedric, Lowton, XXXX, XXXX
    Willian, Salah, Son, Mahrez, XXXX
    Lukaku, Barnes, XXXX

    A. Bailly, Maguire, Vardy, Gross

    B. Smalling, Morgan, Murray, Hazard

BB 34, FH 35 - Team A looks much more rounded to me, but the idea of a differential Hazard (at 60k OR) looks appealing.

    A) Bailly / Mustafi / L. Cook
    B) Bailly / Monreal / L. Cook
    C) Bailly / Smalling / L. Cook
    D) Bailly / Tarkowski / [5.2]
    E) Valencia / Tarkowski / L. Cook
    F) Smalling / Vertonghen / L. Cook
    G) Smalling / Mustafi / [4.9]
    H) Smalling / Tarkowski / [4.8]

Bottomed. My team is pretty template except I have the Auba/Firmino/Vardy front line, hence Cook.

"No Anthony Knockaert this weekend due to his suspension while Leonardo Ulloa can't line-up against his parent club. "We have players like Jurgen Locadia and others who are also pushing to play and that is great for us. These are the reasons we have a strong squad."

Just tried to see how I would get Kane into my team for DGW34 and basically I would have to ditch Alonso and take a hit even with 2FT's

So a plan to do it with just 2FT's:

    a) Alonso & Smalling > Maguire & Bailly? Will have Chilwell on bench except for BB34
    b) Firmino > Vardy now then deal with headache of Kane in DGW34 using 2FT's.

I'm confused by the question. Are you ditching ALonso for a cheap DF and then upgrading a striker to Kane? I don't understand the A) transfers. Surely Morgan instead of Maguire and keeping Smalling instead of Bailly frees up cash?

What about Matic as a 4.7m enabled for gw32 and gw33 on the bench then BB 34 for his points, is he a good option guaranteed minutes...

Help guys team done, your thoughts appreciated

    DDG Ryan
    Alonso Smalling Christ. Lowton Morgan
    D. Silva Salah Son Mahrez Ibe
    Murray Auba Firm

Think city will want to wrap up the league at 33 so 2 FT to get kaku and willian for 34 for the BB.
Christ i want for 33 onwards so im sure he will play.
Wanted to have some diff from the template

On a WC, I think I want Aubameyang for the next two and remove in DGW 34 for either a fit Kane, Vardy or Lukaku. Barnes is my 3rd striker bench fodder.

Who should be the other striker on my WC from 32 onwards?

    A) Lukaku
    B) Vardy
    C) Get Vardy & Lukaku for 32 and go without Aubameyang

    1. Duffy Dunk

I prefer Auba Firmino(or Vardy) Barnes, so Vardy in your case.

Lukaku's fixtures in 34 are much better than Kane's, who'll still be coming after an injury and may be protected more.

I'd actually prefer if Kane stays out to be honest. If he comes back in 33 and scores a brace though it'll be hard to go into 34 DGW without him
