Our coverage of Gameweek 32 concludes now as we assess the latest player, team and talking point to draw our attention from the previous round of matches.

Marko Arnautovic steps up his form just as the fixtures turn against West Ham United. Spurs sweep aside Chelsea at Stamford Bridge to announce their intentions ahead of a very favourable run-in. Meanwhile, a quick return for Harry Kane seems set to change the plans of many Fantasy managers as we look to exploit the Double Gameweeks.

The Player

After a run of three straight blanks, just 21,000 Fantasy Premier League (FPL) managers acquired Marko Arnautovic for Gameweek 32.

With many focused on bringing in Double Gameweek 34 assets, the West Ham United midfielder boasted a mere 4% ownership as he served up two goals and 16 FPL points in the 3-0 home win over Southampton.

That brace at the London Stadium continued the Austrian’s remarkable transformation since a change of position under manager David Moyes.

Moved up front at home to Chelsea in Gameweek 16, he fired the winner in a 1-0 victory.

Since then, Arnautovic is second only to Mohamed Salah in midfield for both goals (nine to 17) and shots on target (21 to 29).

He also places among the top five midfielders for total attempts (40), efforts in the box (30) and big chances (11) over that timeframe.

Indeed, with nine goals, four assists and ten bonus points accrued from Gameweek 16 onwards, he’s averaged 7.4 points per match as a centre-forward.

But one look at West Ham’s fixture list suggests that Arnautovic will keep that differential tag over the run-in.

Clashes against Chelsea, Arsenal and Man City in three of the next four leave just a home encounter with former club Stoke in Gameweek 34 as the most promising match on his short-term agenda.

With an expected Double Gameweek 37 likely to comprise of matches against Leicester and Man United, Moyes’ men don’t have it easy, though a visit from Everton in the final round of fixtures offers a silver lining.

That schedule indicates that the Hammers will still have everything to play for as the season unfolds, ensuring that Arnautovic remains firing on all cylinders as one of the most explosive out-of-position options around.

The Team

Spurs picked the perfect time to finally end their 28-year wait for a win at Stamford Bridge, all but extinguishing Chelsea’s hopes of claiming a top-four finish in the process.

Now eight points ahead of the fifth-placed Blues, Mauricio Pochettino’s men are braced for an outstanding run-in that pits them against just two top-half opponents from this point onwards.

While the big news pre-match was all about the return of Harry Kane, it was notable that the north London outfit’s big-hitters all delivered in his absence – indeed, they were already 3-1 up by the time he emerged from the bench on 74 minutes.

With Kane now expected to be recalled to the staring XI away to Stoke, the concerns over Son Heung-min’s rivalry with Erik Lamela for pitch-time may persuade many to now limit their targets in midfield.

Handily, Dele Alli’s brace and Christian Eriksen’s stunning equaliser showcased their points potential as we start firming up our plans for the remainder of the season.

As one of just six sides expected to offer two Double Gameweeks, the Spurs attack looks conducive to Fantasy investment.

In defence, though, Pochettino’s tendency to rotate at full-back means that centre-half Jan Vertonghen is the only secure pick into a rearguard that’s the third most resilient for both clean sheets (14) and goals against, with 26.

While 11 starts in 12 on the left underline Ben Davies’ potential, his omission from the squad as recently as the Gameweek 30 trip to Bournemouth shows that the Welshman’s acquisition doesn’t come without a degree of risk.

That’s likely to ensure that most of us will focus mainly on the Spurs attack as Pochettino’s men look to maintain the form that’s seen them lose just once in 19 matches across all competitions since the turn of the year.

The Talking Point

Kane’s speedy recovery and late cameo has already impacted on the FPL market.

Sold by over 1.1m over the previous two rounds of fixtures, the Spurs frontman is the top transfer target for Gameweek 33 ahead of a trip to a Stoke side that he’s fired eight goals past in the last four league meetings.

Roberto Firmino has been the major fall guy. Devoid of a Double Gameweek and with just a goal and assist in four, the Liverpool forward has earned more than 52,000 sales already.

Over 30,000 have parted company with Romelu Lukaku for Man United’s trip to the Etihad – overlooking the Belgian’s four goals and two assists in six and a Double Gameweek 34 against West Brom and Bournemouth.

Meanwhile, Pierre Emerick Aubameyang’s brace against the Potters took his tally to 6.5 points per match since arriving at Arsenal. Given that Arsene Wenger’s side, along with United and Spurs, are also expected to offer us a Double Gameweek 37, his case for inclusion has built nicely following Sunday’s 13-point haul.

While those still with Wildcards to wield can shuffle their packs accordingly, those without both a Wildcard and Kane now face a major decision.

Surprisingly, the Spurs man has managed just one double-digit haul from Gameweek 22 onwards.

Yet with an anticipated Double Gameweek 37 against West Brom and Newcastle, Kane will be a heavy favourite for the captaincy and Triple Captain chip at that point.

While overlooking him altogether looks a very risky tactic in light of Spurs’ fixtures and form, the decision when to bring in Kane may ultimately prove a decisive one in our quest for a final surge up the rankings.

We will have a Burning Question, surveying the views of some leading and experienced FPL managers on the Kane issue, later this week.

Best player to transfer in that plays both BGW35 and DGW37?

First WC draft. Anyone care to give some suggestions? I play to BB 34, FH 35 & TC 37.

    DDG - Ryan
    Davies - Robertson - Tarkowski - Lowton - Simpson
    Salah - Mahrez - Son - Gross - Kennedy
    Auba - Kane - Barnes

1.1 ITB to do Aub - Lukaku next week.

Wouldn't mind trying to get Sanchez in instead of Lukaku somehow but think it's easier just getting Lukaku in.

Should Salah be classified as a forward next year?
He is a forward and will very likely be the league's top goalscorer. It's a much stronger case than it was for Sanchez to be re-classified imo.
If he is, it could be well tough next season trying to figure out our forward lines!

He could be but then there's an argument that a lot of players that play in a front 3 should also be re-classified. Personally I hope he stays as a mid!

He is the furthest player up the pitch for LIV though and is playing almost as a striker all season. I think it's less of an arguement with him, he should be imo.

I think if you were designing the game from scratch, you would either:

      1. (a) Classify attacking players like Salah as forwards/attackers, and allow more attacking slots (equal to or greater than 'midfield', or approx. equal to another class of players comprised of all other outfield players), or (b) allow any number of each position so long as you stick to the budget.

      2. Similar to (1b), do away with positions entirely, and assign each player a rating of attacking and defensive responsibility (e.g. 0-3), and multiply the allotted points value for their attacking and defensive actions by their attacking and defensive responsibility. Again, what players you buy, and where they play on the pitch, is up to you, but you must stay withing budget.

If CHE dont look better and Hazard blanks for the fourth time in a row this weekend, I think I might sell him for Alli and go with an Eriksen/Alli double up as I won't be getting Kane. Decent move for a guy chasing?

    DdG (Pope)
    Christ-Duffy-Chillwell (Ward-Stephens)
    Salah-Mahrez-Sterling-Son-Willian
    Lukaku-Firmino (Barnes)

Wc'ed in 32. All other chips left. Originally planned Ibe-Kane IN for Sterling-Firmino for free in GW34.
I lead my mini-league by 56pts. My 2 nearest rivals have either Auba or a WC in hand for 33. I feel I won't make much more difference in GW34 but I'm in a position where I could loose big time in GW33. So...

    A) do I go for the bold move and do the transferts in 33, take -4 (and -1M in TV) hoping for Kane to go wild
    or
    B) as I'm leading there's no reason to take the -4. Wait for 34 to make the transfers for free.

    1. ILOVEBAPS
      • 13 Years

      A. With that lead you can afford a -4 and it is a very worthwhile punt. I don't see Sterling or Firmino going bananas this GW so I would do it.

I have no midfield for 35 (no FH) so about time I took a look!

Current mid: Eriksen / Sanchez / Hazard / Mahrez / Gross

    Sanchez + Mahrez + Gross to Salah + Sane + Kenedy (-4)

WC draft MkII. Any thoughts to make this better?
Could swap Ryan to Henn and make Ward into Robbo?

    Ryan
    Davies Chilwell VDH
    Salah Mahrez Willian Groß
    Kane(c) Auba Barnes

    DDG Kenedy Ward Tarkowski

££ left for Auba to Lukaku next GW and may take a -4 for Groß to Lingard too.

Hard call but I would probably leave it as is.

Kane and Lukaku could be ideal for 34. I cant get both but GL.

Cheers. Not a huge fan of Lukaku or Mourinho but the fixtures are very good and many will captain him. I wouldn't be surprised if he only ended up with an assist across both games.

Why Tarkowski and Ward over Lowton?

      Is Davies nailed?

Why VDH over a GW34 DGWer?

Can easily swap Talk for Lowton... just liked his name 🙂

I choose to believe Davies will play all games 🙂 Could swap for Vert but I got him cheap.

Not too convinced with the cheap DGW defenders but getting Morgan might be worthwhile. I like Swans at home and it saves me a transfer in GW37.

Think Morgan is a good shout - good fixtures for a clean sheet and can easily get a goal as well.

Is Alonso essential to have for DGW???

Chelsea fixtures are tempting, but the slump of form is making me think about loosing Alonso & distributing funds,

also who would you replace Alonso with..I have DDG so maybe spurs or utd double up

On a WC so want suggestions, thanks

Alonso can be very frustrating but is worth the price at around 7.2mill.
Think of him as a midfielder with the added bonus of a clean sheet

Do you think Alonso starts both games in DGW??

When you watch him the threat is stupid. He should get more attack returns.

For the double ups for any certainty of starts you pay big bucks.
DeGea Valencia the only nailed utd
Spurs - could say for 100% any defender that starts both of 34?

I think so but many would not agree. I live in fear of the 15 pointer - I managed to miss at least 2 when he was out of my team for a handful of weeks this year.

            I say keep.
As they say "Don't look at what he has done till now.Look at what he can "
            🙂 🙂

No returns lately, but the fixtures haven't been as kind as those upcoming. I'm holding and hoping for the best.

      I'm going Ryan I think.

Benching Bailly so might play DeGea but looking at the fixtures i might go Ryan and bench DeGea and Bailly.

That was way too much like sitting on the fence. Just put Ryan in and saved team. 🙂

After Bailly's no show I think i might just do a U-turn and sell him for a sub-£5m def so I can get Kane in for Lukaku.

I don't see DDG keeping a clean sheet obviously but he could still end up with 4 points nonetheless, hate relying on a Brighton cleanie

I am going to see what happens with Bailly this week as I want to have the 2FT for 34. But yeah very frustrating that he did not start.

Good point on DeGea should be no shortage of save points when best attack meets best keeper.

But the fixture is a factor too. HUD just can't score. Think have not scored in 5 of last 6 or something silly like that anyway. So I think Ryan is not a bad call

      Ryan

Hud attack is awful but Brighton defence is too, relegation six-pointer so feels like a scrappy 1-1

I think both concede but DDG makes about 10 saves more than Ryan

Gonna save this week, what's the best plan for next week to use my FTs?
    (A) Son and Aubameyang to Lingard and Kane
    (C) Morgan and Aubameyang to Smalling/Vertonghen

      A safer
B is risky due to Austin

I would base decision on whether you want to maintain or risk catching an ML lead.

          Yeah, a couple options:
          (1) Aubameyang and Willian to Kane and Ibe
          (2) Aubameyang, Gross and Ryan to Kane, L.Cook and Hart (-4)
          (3) Aubameyang, Willian and Ryan to Kane, Gudmundsson and Hart (-4)

          What do you think?

    Walcott (vs LIV)
    or
    Mounie (vs BHA)
(was going with Walcott.Realized Mounie had 13 point haul when these sides met earlier in the season)
    So confused now

      Neither might be great option.
But Walcott at least has security of starts.
Why did Mounie only play a few minutes last week?

That was Huddersfield at home, this is away. Brighton 1-0/2-0 win imo.
