The first of two Sunday fixtures gets underway at 2.15pm as Arsenal welcome Southampton to the Emirates Stadium.

After Harry Kane and Romelu Lukaku failed to pick up the points at Stoke yesterday, all eyes turn to Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang.

The fourth top captain pick for the Gameweek with 7.9% backing, he was handed the armband by 56 of the top 100 Fantasy Premier League (FPL) managers.

As expected, however, Arsene Wenger has rotated heavily ahead of Thursday’s Europa League return to CSKA Moscow.

Snapped up by 70,000+ managers for Gameweek 33, Aaron Ramsey is rested for the third time in the last four league fixtures.

Laurent Koscielny also misses out altogether, while the likes of Mesut Ozil, Alexandre Lacazette and Nacho Monreal are named among the substitutes.

For the Saints, Charlie Austin drops to the bench as Mark Hughes hands Shane Long the lone striker role.

The visitors look to be lining up in a 3-4-2-1 formation, affording us a final chance to scout for options ahead of their Double Gameweek 34 against Chelsea and Leicester.

I can't get United or Leicester, can't afford Azpi and Christensen not an option.

So that leaves me with options of Mee, Yoshida and Cedric. Exciting.

Yes so few options. I didn't go Smalling because I thought the United centre back situation was unclear. I still think it is. That Smalling goal yesterday blinds the fact he was utterly useless yesterday defensively. Treble Burnley it is ha

"When you play a match, it is statistically proven that players actually have the ball 3 minutes on average … So, the most important thing is: what do you do during those 87 minutes when you do not have the ball. That is what determines whether you’re a good player or not."
    - Cruyff

Justice for Welbeck! Football is won off the ball, an area Danny excels in.

The ball isn't in possession for 90mins. Plus this 'statistically proven' claim might include subs, which would be a bit misleading, since around 16 players per game play 90+ mins, which is what we're mostly thinking about when considering the 3min statistic.

That's a bit cynical, though correct if you change 'most' to 'at least some, perhaps most'! Haha

Personally, I agree with GB, but I think the intention is to fight the injustice of him being underrated. But I don't think he is underrated. He's been overrated in the past, underrated too, but in reality, I think he's probably rated about right just now.

Most of the hate comes from the understanding that he would be a great player for a different club. He's punching above his weight at Arsenal and Man U. That said, he's a useful player to have at the club, for the reasons GB mentions, which allows people to be a bit kinder with him, since he's not starting every game, and can't be blamed for the mediocrity 😆

          • 14 Years
          8 years, 3 months ago

Different opinions and harsh criticism should always be welcome. It's how we learn. I am wrong all the time, and could be wrong about Welbeck, but I haven't been convinced by a rebuttal yet 😀

How is it specious. GB isn't claiming that Wellbeck is good BECAUSE football is won off the ball. He's saying that Welbeck is good off the ball AND football is won off the ball, so being relatively useless on the ball isn't the be all and end all.

I could see you breaking even in truth but even then could end up 1 or 2 points worse off. Target Lowton as Burnley rarely if ever concede more than 1 in a match, Lowton has assist potential too.
