The ScoutCast crew are always quick to jump on the shoulders of giants, so when a veteran of the Fantasy Football Scout community starts to threaten a Fantasy Premier League title tilt, we just have to get them on the show.

Matt Kearney aka “Bowstring the Cap” has been about on our pages for seven seasons but never has he experienced one like this. Currently ranked twenty-third in the world, he drops by in this latest episode to offer his take on the campaign and, in particular, the strategy for the run-in.

In truth, Matt was better placed before Gameweek 33 and, along with Jonty, Andy and Az, he joins me to look back at the lowest scoring weekend of the campaign when even the leading managers faltered.

But those gripes are soon drowned by a wave of enthusiasm on the eve of Double Gameweek 34.

That’s the focus for your latest set of community questions, sparking our thoughts on the optimum heavy-hitters, the rotation fears and our confidence in Chelsea to produce over the extra fixtures.

This ScoutCast was first beamed live via our YouTube channel on Tuesday evening. Be sure to subscribe to get notice of future live episodes.

If you’re a traditional type, you can acquire the mp3 audio version via this link on the first player below, or take in the full visual experience via the second player below.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

A few thoughts on the BB chip.
When it was first introduced I thought WC in advance get 15 decent ones out for a DGW. By decent I mean 15 pretty much on a par and maybe compromise on a few big hitters. But in reality the tempatation of getting the big hitters means the BB will always be a dross keeper, 2 * 4.5 defenders and a 5.0 mid

Anyone tried the more level approach over the last two years and how did it work out?

The bb chip all about opportunity and a bit of luck. You are absolutely right that you normally end up with dross on bb. Last year I played bb early in gw33 when palace and boro had dbgws. Had De Gea Sanchez maguire and one other on the bench as sgwers. I played bb as I couldn’t decide who to play and who not to play. They scored 32 pts and I ended up beating my main rival. This week I have Karius salah kiko and masuaku. All sgwers but all could haul. So bb being played. If you keep expectations low you could be in for a great surprise.

Surely it's artificial to put Salah, DDG, Maguire and Sanchez on the bench and then claim that it's a successful bench boost?

Chasing big style with opponent 50 points ahead....

My B.B. team below ..... asterisks are players he also has (99pc sure he did Vardy and Kane this week) Pretty sure he is saving his B.B. for 37. He doesn’t have tc left and neither of us have FH

    A. Risk free Kane C
    B. Balls out Sanchez c
    C. Hail Mary Sanchez TC and defer B.B. to 37

    Ddg. Hennessy
Lowton *. Tark. Morgan *. Alonso. Dunk
Salah. Sanchez. Lingaard. Kenedy. Mahrez *
    Vardy*. Kane *Barnes

    His XI

    Pope
    Christiansen. Robertson. Simpson
    Salah. Mahrez. Sterling. Willian
    Auba. Vardy. Kane

I also have no FH. I have about 8 playing gw35 so am going TC Sanchez (im also chasing 50 odd points)

      BB 37

Sanchez such a differential if he explodes you be rising son

    2. DJ1000
      • 11 Years
      8 years, 7 days ago

I think you have enough differentials and a much better team to gain 25-30 pts on him. Dbgws can give huge points swings. Play the % and go kane captain. If you get within 20 watch him panic. Put tc on kane in gw37. The other concern is gw35. How many hits you taking? I would take 2-3 and get great players in who will play rest of season. 50 pts nothing at this stage of the season

Some help please guys. No FH and using WC/BB on GW36/37. 0.7m ITB + 1FT. Thinking -8 with 3 transfers leaving me with 9DGW players

    Fabianski
    Dunk - Alonso - Robertson
    Silva - Mahrez - Walcott - Eriksen - Willian
    Auba - Kane(TC)

(Speroni) Quaner - Tomkins - Dawson

Just watched 'the premier league match pack' and found out that Arsenal has one of the worst away records in 2018 - this means Mustafi must GO (4 away - 2 home)

BUT when you look at who to replace him with and it's not that exciting?

Any suggestions for a defender up to 6m?

    Already have Smalling.

For some context try looking at how many away games they have played in 2018 (small sample means the stat is meaningless), who they have played, and who they are going to play.

      1. KenyaDigIt

BHA, TOT, SWA, BOU - they should be keeping a clean sheet in at least one. And then last night they didn't look the best either...

Not convinced with keeping an Arsenal defender at this stage.

It's not just 2018. It's the whole season.
      Played 15, Won 3, Drawn 4, Lost 8, GS 16, GC 24.

They are 12th in the way table.

    Foster
    Lowton Ake Alonso
    Lingard Shaqiri Eriksen Hazard
    Barnes Lukaku Aubamayang

    Elliot Walcott Baines TAA

In essence what I am trying to say is already on a -8 and am probably going to use BB this week, so are any of the below worth another-8?

    A Elliot & TAA > Hart & Long
    B Elliot & Baines > Lloris/Schmeichel/Courtois & Long
    C Baines & Walcott > Tarkowski & Pogba
    D Baines & Walcott > Long & Son

If using BB, what's your bench looking like for this GW ? My weakest 4 players are

    Ryan
    Lowton
    Cedric
    Gudmundsson

      Ryan, Dunk, Barnes and Lowton.

Hopeful for 16 appearance points and then maybe 1-2 actual returns across the 8 games bringing it to 20-25 points.

I have Morgan and Ibe for Cedric and Gudmundsson.

Your bench won't be better than this in 37. Play the BB. A lucky CS for Brighton, Burnely and Soton, Leicester in my case, and we are gold.

Ibe is a doubt as well. Not many in that price bracket unfortunately. I'll probably get Young for a hit if Ibe is out. Will start at least 1 and may get an assist.

Both will score around the same imo. Choose as per your ML. If leading, do the same as your rivals. If chasing, go different.

If I had to pick one, Lukaku. He's been in good form, barring the City game where he didn't get much service tbf. He has great fixtures has a good record against his opponents (15 G+A in 14 matches against WBA and BOU)

For me, Only way to get Lukaku is for a hit, is it ok to do if I captain him? Already have Kane.

    Auba > Lukaku
    Alonso > Azpi

    For -4

    Yes or No?

    1. JasonG123
      • 12 Years
      8 years, 7 days ago

It makes no sense to captain a player simply because you took a hit for them. They are two different questions:

      1. Question: Should I take a hit for player X? Answer: will player X score 4 more than player Y (assuming it's only a short-term decision).
      2. Question: Should I captain player X? Answer: will player X score more points than anyone else in my team?

For your situation, is there a way you can raise the funds for Lukaku without sacrificing Alonso?

      1. _Make
        • 9 Years
        8 years, 7 days ago

Indeed, the logic is backwards. If you think an incoming player is worth -4 because you are expecting a high score x2 that makes sense, but not captaining a player just because you took a hit.

          • 12 Years

Going for cover is a bad strategy as it prioritises minimising variance over expected points when all we should care about is expected points.

Everyone will start GW after FH with 1FT, so use them GW before FH or loss them.

I could use this transfer more effectively as I don't have a FH chip.

I would prefer to get 2 City attackers for free than to get Long. Makes sense?

BB 34 or 37, that’s the question. No other chips left.

    Lloris
    Maguire Ogbonna Ward
    Mahrez Hazard Alli Lingard
    Ayew Kane Lukaku

    Pickford Kenedy Naughton Schindler

Decent bench this week but I’d only have to replace Ward & Pickford to have a full squad of dgw:ers for gw37. Unleash BB in gw 37 a no brainer?

G2G..? On a BB and I think I'm going to captain Kane...

    De Gea / Ryan
    Duffy/ Bailly / Morgan / Ward / Lowton
    Salah / Mahrez / Son / Willian / RLC
    Lukaku / Kane / Barnes

    Morning everyone, need some help:

    a) If you had both Burnley's GKs and had to drop one to play BB, would you keep Pope or Heaton? Dyche's words must mean Pope will continue being in starting XI right?

    b) Play one of Sakho (BRI), Ki (EVE) or Perez (ARS)

      Sakho.

I am going Mahrez over Kaku or Kane to captain just because Leicester doesn't have FA match. Seems like Kaku or Kane will be rested for 1 game as they look safe for UCL

Thats wishful thinking but mahrez is a great pick and I like that option

No chance Kane will be rested. Spurs appealing that goal just to help him with the golden boo means he's surely going to be playing.

Is there any chance Willian will be rotated with Pedro fit?

Then would Haz be a better pick for the DGWs? On a FH so can chop and change.

I'd stay away from Chelsea completely but if you do go for one of their mids then yeah Hazard for me. Their best player and on pens too, easy choice.

With Long looking nailed, Mariappa to Long(-4) surely not worth it though to BB the below?
    Fabianski, Long, Robertson, Quaner

When my GW37 bench would be something like:
    Fabianski, Fernandez, Milipen, Ayew

Yeah, true, will stick with the plan for 37!
Actually it's a no-brainer now thinking about it a bit more as three of my bench in 37 will have a DGW if all goes to plan and Fabianski doesnt have one this week. Cheers!
