As expected, the last set of fixtures was poor in terms of the average score, with the Gameweek winner coming in below 100 points for the first time since the blank fixtures.

There were some important lessons learned though, as some strained squads approach the summer break. As Norwegians, we have a rare glimpse of shining sun, and will tone back the previews to more bare essentials this time around with a focus on the key matches.

Gameweek 12 feature matches

Vålerenga – Lillestrøm

(Saturday, 5:00 P.M.)

This traditional Norwegian derby tends to be tough, tight and heavy. With no guarantee of good football the motivation should be high for both sides. Plenty of Fantasy managers are eager to see if Erling Knudtzon will be back in play, and if he will play up front or out wide.

Strømsgodset – Sandefjord

(Sunday, 5:00 P.M.)

Strømsgodset have disappointed everyone with their run so far, although there have been glimmers of hope with a series of close calls and woodwork strikes of late. If they can’t get it together against whipping-boys Sandefjord, then we know a turnaround in their fortunes is still some way off.

Rosenborg – Brann

(Sunday, 7:00 P.M.)

Brann started in red hot form and despite a drop off in form they are still finding results to remain undefeated in the league. Hot favorites Rosenborg have had the opposite journey; they are now looking like a top team after a slow start.

If Rosenborg win this game, they will be top of the league for the first time this season. Their attacking threat and home advantage will be needed as a clean sheet may be tricky.

For the hosts Yann-Erik de Lanlay is facing a race to be fit for this game. Rosenborg manager Kåre Ingebrigtsen has stated that de Lanlay will play if fit, implying that there will only be room for one of Søderlund and Bendtner in the starting lineup. If de Lanlay is out for this game, there’s a possibility both will start.

MrKlin says..

Looking ahead we see Sarpsborg 08 and Haugesund entering a great run of fixtures, with some nice options opening up.

For Haugesund, David Akintola should already be in many teams, and with a lighter schedule he can hopefully explode his potential further. Frederik Gytkjær, despite his last penalty landing somewhere in France, is a viable striker for the next four to five Gameweeks. Also look to the defence as Alexander Stølås and Vegard Skjerve sail up as alternative defensive options.

In Sarpsborg it’s harder to find the right picks. Goalie Aslak Falch has well and truly secured the number one shirt and is a shoo-in if you are looking for a keeper now, while Amin Askar splashed onto the scene with out of position play on the left midfield/wing as well as taking set-piece duty. Kristoffer Zachariassen was a pre-season favorite from this team, and has crept into form picking up an assist on the sly in each of his last three run outs.

Bonus info: with Ranheim striker Michael Karlsen suspended on yellow cards, Erik Tønne looks to be the penalty taker of choice as they travel to Bodø.

Johannes says..

Sarpsborg are coming from three back-to-back victories, and have great fixtures coming up. It looks like a good bet to bring in someone from Sarpsborg now. I agree with MrKlin and see Amin Askar as the standout pick at the moment. After having started the season as a full back, it seems like he’s now nailed down the left wing in the team. He’s a defender in the game, and also on a lot of set pieces.

Another Sarpsborg pick I like is Ole Jørgen Halvorsen, who’s currently occupying the right wing. He should be the penalty taker having scored the previous two spot kicks. Both Askar and Halvorsen should be pretty nailed, but with Sarpsborg’s squad depth there’s always a slight chance of rotation. Aslak Falch remains a good goalkeeper pick, and Patrick Mortensen could be a good differential up front as he’s very likely to start every game.

If you haven’t got in David Akintola yet, it might be the time to do so. He’s still red hot, and has good fixtures coming up. In the absence of Christian Grindheim against Tromsø he might be given an even more attacking role behind the striker. An attacking double up with Frederik Gytkjær could be a good differential in the coming weeks, despite the Danish forward skying a penalty against Rosenborg. Another great pick from Haugesund is Alexander Stølås. With four attacking returns already, I think he’ll reward his owners nicely over the next week.

Another team I’m monitoring is Strømsgodset. They have great fixtures, with Sandefjord and Start coming up in the next two, and have shown potential in recent matches, despite not overly impressing. I’ll back Marcus Pedersen to do well as my captain this week, and I personally think Eirik Ulland Andersen will return to form sooner rather than later. Bringing one of them in is a risk though, with a mass exodus from Ulland Andersen likely if he doesn’t return anything and Pedersen is one yellow away from suspension.

Alexander Søderlund deserves a mention. In Niklas Bendtner’s absences he impressed with two goals for Rosenberg, who I back to win against Brann. However, I’m not 100% convinced Søderlund will start. As mentioned only one of Søderlund and Bendtner will start if de Lanlay is fit, and with this being Bendtner’s last game before going to the World Cup I have a feeling he’ll be the one to get the nod. This is only my personal opinion though. If I already had Søderlund I’d play him, but non-owners may be advised to wait until Bendtner leaves for international duty.

Yep he is on my bench too with not much chance of an appearance, unless Vito still has headaches. Is a strong bench a good thing or not in this game?
I did a check on my bench scores last week because I had a feeling I was wasting money and giving myself benching dilemmas by having too strong a bench.
(over 12 game weeks) Average bench score 11, the three outliers were GW1 with 2 points, game week 3 with 3 points and GW4 with 23 points. the rest were around that mean score of 11.
I had 4 red arrows in the first 12 weeks and on those weeks the bench scored 23, 19, 16 and 9 (16.75 average) managing the bench and putting the money ( and points) on the pitch seems to be the easiest way forward for me to improve my play.

I've benched 10 points on average, but take out weeks 1 and 2 (total pb 1), and it rises to 12 average. Worst was 19 in round six. Given how points are spread around cheaper players more than in FPL (I have £4.4m itb still), I think bench points are inevitable.

Got to agree with D&D above. Aasmundsen was 5.5ish and I also have Askar (5.5ish) and Afeez (4.2) on my bench.

That’s not huge money and I don’t think I’ve really struggled to bring in anyone I wanted due to budget.

I think the trouble is benching points can make you second guess yourself the next week which cycles around again and again.

On the plus side, despite that being 29 bench points in total. You are still looking at a good score and green arrow with 2 to play!

Yes I am happy with the points on the field this week ( so far) even though I need 18 points from Soderlund and Reginiussen to draw a H2H.
At this stage of the season I am also happy that I am not trailing the top 1k by too much. That was my target at season start. I have only been playing (any form of ) fantasy football for two seasons and have a lot to learn so playing the bench and price / point is one thing I need to do better at. I have scored more from the bench in one GW than my playing squad in FPL this season. FPL team id 4385 GW33. 25 points scored with 28 remaining on the bench.

I am looking at getting both Johnson and Asen back into my team in the next few weeks when the fixtures turn for them. Pedersen is due another hat trick soon but I think not before GW16. Aasmundsen is a great sub for the next few games and I may even play him in GW14 and 16.
Not worth a -4 imo to answer your question. Hope that helps and good luck anyway.

Always go with your gut feeling and then you have played the game your way but - Taking a chance on Sam hitting the back of the net like his statistics say he is capable when the fixtures turn and backing Asen to maintain his points scoring record may be the gamble to take ( over a -4 for Aasmundsen to keep up the form and do better than expected, and Pedersen to have a decent run with a couple of double digit scores to match Johnson). I think Johnson has the ability to hit hat tricks but Pedersen will only be an average scorer in fantasy terms. I do not have Johnson atm but I will get him back at the expense of Pedersen when the time is right.

Been pondering similar and Rashani out / Halvorsen in. Only issue is now on 3 yellows so perhaps Zachariassen (3/E).
EUA had been the plan but however well he is/isn't playing (stats look ok) it's hard to justify 9.3m + Pedersen given SIF form and goals.

But Bendtner return makes Søderlund in last week look a potentially terrible transfer, so unsure now.

Nice balance in that team! Midfielders are very difficult to pick. Some good options, like Rodriguez, Hazard, etc. - but many of them are a bit expensive.

          My most recent draft:
          Muslera
          Marcelo - Meunier - Hector - Trippier
          Silva - Ljajic - Rodriguez
          Neymar - Werner - Cavani
          (Halldorson - Betancur - Murillo - Boussoufa)

My question marks are Silva (because of recent events in the Spain squad), Ljajic (is Milinkovic-Savic the better option?), Werner, and the obvious one: Neymar or no Neymar. Can't decide on the striker lineup, other than Cavani.

            not far from each other...
had Silva in my team until the news
also had Neymar but lost him for team balance

Tempting to drop Neymar. It's much the same issue as with Kane in FPL - team balance vs a highly owned goalscorer.

Silva will probably go before the deadline, but I really don't know who I want to replace him with. Di María, Kroos, Willian, Eriksen and Paulinho are the options I've looked at so far. Might stretch to Hazard if I drop Neymar, but that leaves question marks regarding which striker to get instead.

Which mid has to go to make way for Aasmundsen?
    Rashani, Åsen, Akintola, Reginiussen

…or possibly Vetlesen - changing formations to 3-5-2/4-4-2 depending on fixtures?

Rashani, He has a poor fixture next GW but then they improve. Aasmundsen has good fixtures up to GW19. If you can use the cash from selling Rashani that is what I would do.

I can definitely use the cash. Rashani might be the best option to replace, then!

Similar position, Rashani, Broberg, Akintola, Reginiussen, Brynhildsen. Latter the obvious one but he's the only definite bench player in my team and having weekly headaches as it is.

Think I'll go Rashani out if I do go for the midfield transfer

Broberg is an interesting pick he has great fixtures from GW17 and can score double figures but I would drop him over Rashani until GW17 and monitor his form until then.
I went with Afeez as my midfield sub and have a line up of
Akintola, Reginiussen, Aasmundsen, Koomson and bench Afeez

Considering Koomson too, but will probably need to drop Skålevik first.

I got rid of Koomson on my wildcard to get Skålevik, think that was a mistake but there are so many good mids and not as many appealling forwards.

I've been benching Rashani and playing Broberg recently but do wonder if long term the former is the better option.

Know the feeling! Got rid of Koomson, too!

Rashani can be quite good at his best, so I wouldn't be surprised if he's the better option of the two - at least long term.

Probably. Did Rashani to Aasmundsen so assume Broberg will now do nothing 😆

It seems to be confirmed that Sarpsborg 08 reserve keeper Anders Kristiansen will move to Union Saint-Gilloise on 01/07/18.
Falch has played all the games so far this season,

Was there ever a threat he could take Falch's place? As an owner, good for his place to now be more secure.
