Fantasy managers are keeping faith with several Premier League-based players in the lunchtime encounter between Denmark and Australia.

Christian Eriksen (£9.0m), who registered an assist in the Danes’ 1-0 win over Peru last Saturday, is the most-owned player on show: 9.5% of McDonald’s FIFA managers have the Tottenham Hotspur midfielder in their squads.

Eriksen’s assist potential was evident in that opening-match victory: the Spurs man fired in 11 crosses, delivered seven corner-kicks and created three chances for his team-mates in an admittedly fortuitous success over the unlucky Peruvians.

Kasper Schmeichel (£5.0m) excelled in that match, making six saves on his way to a clean-sheet. The Leicester City goalkeeper’s ownership has jumped a couple of percentage points as a result and now stands at 7.5 %.

Andreas Christensen‘s (£5.0m) ownership has also increased after that shut-out, with the Chelsea defender now selected by 4.3% of Fantasy managers.

For Australia, Mathew Ryan‘s (£4.5m) budget price tag and guaranteed minutes have persuaded 1.9% of McDonald’s FIFA managers to invest in the Brighton and Hove Albion goalkeeper: Ryan is the most-owned Australian player as a result.

With ten penalties being awarded in the World Cup so far – the tournament record is 18 – Fantasy managers are wisely looking towards those players on spot-kick duties for a reliable source of points.

Mile Jedinak (£6.0m) scored from the spot in the Socceroos’ 2-1 defeat to France and his ownership has increased to 1.6% as a consequence: previously, no Australian midfielder or forward had broken the 1% mark. Jedinak’s penalty was, in fact, the only shot on target Australia had in that loss to the French.

Australia’s team is unchanged, while Lasse Schone for the injured William Kvist is Denmark’s only alteration.

Australia XI (4-2-3-1): Ryan; Risdon, Sainsbury, Milligan, Behich; Jedinak, Mooy; Leckie, Kruse; Rogic, Nabbout
Denmark XI (4-2-3-1): Schmeichel; Dalsgaard, Kjaer, Christensen, Larsen; Schone, Delaney; Eriksen, Poulsen, Sisto; Jorgensen

Torn between wanting an Australian win (for the underdogs) and wanting fantasy points for Eriksen and Dalsgaard.

Maybe 5-4 Australia, with Eriksen and Dalsgaard scoring and assisting each other, isn't too much to ask for

Yeah - I don't think either team will be that devastated if it is a draw.

Not sure about that - a win would be desirable sure, but a draw would mean a win against Nigeria should put them through. A defeat would be a catastrophe.

A draw might not be enough if Iceland beat Nigeria and draw with Croatia. Would mean 3 teams on 5 points and it would go to goal difference

My prediction on Superbru is 1-1. Croatia didn't inspire against Nigeria, but a draw will be ok for them. I don't rate Argentina at all

      No. No, no, no.

There's something endearing about a 15-pointer sitting on my bench in FPL.

Quite like the captain rule as my ability at choosing the right captain has been woeful this season!

        • 13 Years

The biggest FPL fault is that the captain pick carries so much weight. You can pick the best player in the prem by a distance against The bottom club and get nothing...even of he actually plays well.

Absolutely no!! It’s great for a short time, 7 rounds or so but I couldn’t live like this for a whole season.

Although it was funny that my colleague had suffered penalty misses from Messi and Cueva, blanks from Mbappe and Cavani, minus points for Walker and then his final day captain choice of Rodriguez not starting. To quote him: ‘I’ve put Carlos Sanchez as captain, it can’t get any worse!’ So 3 minutes into Colombia v Japan...

No. As I said yesterday, FPL has to appeal to the 'time poor' and being able to sub and make captain changes would require more time commitment and would put people off. One of the beauties of FPL is people can make transfers on a Friday afternoon or Saturday morning and have banter with their mates / colleagues about it.

I play a lot of fantasy cycling which is great. In the game I play you get one fixed team for a race of maybe six days or longer that you set beforehand and a team that you change daily through transfers.

Works really well and is in effect of both types of game per race.

OR 7th btw for the season so far..and yes there are a lot of players.l.

Don't think I could bear having to plan for different captains during a GW and making subs every day over a full season

No but I like the points for winning penalties but would tweak it so 2 if pen scores but only 1 if missed. Or maybe 1 if pen taking is the guy that won it.

      1. Pierce34
        • 10 Years
        7 years, 9 months ago

Why? Winning the penalty is an independent act that has no bearing or influence on whether the penalty is scored. Shouldn't punish a player who, say, makes a great run to the box just because a team-mate then misses the penalty.

Aluko talking straight about Rashford at Utd:

"Mourinho isn't going to play him because he is a young player and Mourinho has issues developing young players."
"Rashford needs to think about leaving".

Completely agree with her - if you want to be another Danny Welbeck then stay sitting on the bench at Utd.

Rashford doesn't start because he's inconsistent and his decision making is poor. He gets plenty of gametime. Martial is so much better and even he doesn't start every week
