Once again Antoine Griezmann (£10.0m) is the go-to Fantasy option as France get ready for their second match of the World Cup.

However the Atletico Madrid striker has lost some of his owners to those scrambling to get Cristiano Ronaldo (£12.0m) and Diego Costa (£9.0m) in their sides.

Griezmann went into the Australia match owned by 25 percent of managers, he starts today in just 23.2 percent of squads despite winning a penalty and converting it in Gameround 1.

Just under nine percent opted to cover the France attack at a cheaper rate with Kylian Mbappe (£9.0m).

Budget option N’Golo Kante remains a popular asset with 20 percent ownership while some Fantasy managers are sure that France will keep their first clean sheet of the tournament today.

Raphael Varane (£6.0m) is in 14.7 percent of squads while Hugo Lloris (£6.0m) and Samuel Umtiti (£6.0m) are in 12.4 and 10.6 respectively.

Despite missing his penalty against Denmark, Christian Cueva (£6.0m) is the still the most-owned Peruvian asset, in two percent of squads.

With penalty-taking duties still an important factor in his appeal, he also registered nine touches in the opposition box in Gameround 1, more than any other midfielder at the tournament so far.

THE STARTING LINE-UPS

FRANCE XI (4-3-3): Lloris, Pavard, Varane, Umtiti, Hernández; Pogba, Kanté, Matuidi; Griezmann, Mbappé, Giroud

PERU XI (4-2-3-1): Gallese; Advincula, Rodriguez, Ramos, Trauco; Aquino, Yotun; Flores, Cueva, Carrillo; Guerrero.

    WC+BB team for round3,

    Cabellero (Nig) El Shenaway (Saudi)
Rodriguez (Costa Rica) Mojica (Sen) Granqvist (Mex) Verela (Rus) Ben Youssef (Pan)
Cueva (Oz) Meza (Nig) Layun (Swe) Muller (Kor) James (Sen)
Ronaldo (Ira) Lewandowski (Jap) Canavi (Rus)

    Any obvious mistakes, or omissions?

I also would think there are better options than James in midfield. Senegal looked like a strong side to me.

Kimmich would be nice, but I've opted for the two penalty taking defenders (that we know for sure, Ramos is 50/50 for me) so Kimmich in for a 4.5m option would require a downgrade of Lewandowski/Cavani to Lozano or similar.

          James I agree, possibly Isco?

I'm not falling into the Cavani trap again, though he'll probably troll me and score a brace. Mexico is a tough game for Granqvist. Needs more Spain

Yes, Cavani was poor yesterday, other options are Costa, who always walks the fine line between scored twice, and getting sent off, Mbappe maybe?

Granqvist on penalties, that's the main reason.

        Isco in for James?

How can people enjoy this captaincy change nonsense? Streamlines teams enormously because you need captaincy options from several teams.

    3. Pierce34

You can do whatever you want. Just pick a captain from the beginning without changing if you feel like it. It's great to have the option to be more hands-on with managing the team.

It's not like FPL is not streamlined anyway - everyone captained either Salah or Kane most of the time. This system on the other hand is great for random low-risk, high-reward captain punts - like, say, Golovin or Granqvist in round 1.

      1. Brosstan
        • 11 Years
        7 years, 8 months ago

I cant "do whatever I want" while being competitive when there is an alternative strategy that guarantees more captain options which is clearly an advantage.

        1. Pierce34
          • 10 Years
          7 years, 8 months ago

But why do you think it's more streamlined? FPL is a lot more so in my opinion (look at Kane vs. Salah I mentioned above). Take today for example, lots of teams that have one of Griezmann, Mbappe, Eriksen or Messi. Or maybe two of them. Or maybe none, as is the case with my team for instance. What's streamlined about that?

    4. Cok3y5murf

After a conversation (bottomed on the other thread) with @Grand Thibauto, I was discussing when to use Max Captain. Leaving it here in case it is helpful for anyone else:

You'd want to use Max Captain when you have the smallest chance to get a captain right. On both QFs, Semis and Final/3rd place you only have 2 go's at it, so they would be my prime candidates. Considering the 3, I think captain in final/3rd place is the way to go. Unpredictable matches, where both teams are strong and it is rare there is a clear favourite (vs. quarter finals where you still can have some matches where you find a clear favorite).

Due to this, the best captain is usually very unpredictable, with it a lot of times being a defender (which we don't usually captain). Let's look at Euro/WC finals recently and find the best captain, considering you wouldn't captain a defender:
    WC 2010
Final: Netherlands 0x1 Spain - Iniesta. Possible you'd captain him, but most people likely would go for an attacker (RVP, Villa)
3rd place: Germany 3x2 Uruguay - Cavani, Forlan, Jansen, Khedira. You could have one of these as captain (mostly Cavani/Forlan).

    Euro 2012
Final: Spain 4x0 - Silva, Alba, Torres, Mata. Torres and Silva okay choices for captain, but you'd be better with Alba, that almost everyone had at that point (he scored a lot of points in the tournament).

    WC 2014
Final: Germany 1x0 Argentina - Gotze. Not only not the biggest assest in Germany, but everyone who had Messi would captain it.
3rd place: Netherlands 3x0 Brazil - RVP or Wijnaldum with goals. Blind would be the best (clean sheet + goal) but you'd never captain him.

    Euro 2016
Final: France 0x1 Portugal - Only goal by Éder. I'm Portuguese and no way in hell anyone would captain him.

Overall, not only results are unpredictable, also goal scorers are unpredictable. Very rarely there are braces, so most times you're better served with a defender (which you wouldn't captain in the first place).

Do you have stats for the 3rd place games? Often one team doesn't care and the other wants to win. More goals then probably..? I think I'll play max captain in the final round to take advantage of this and also as you rightly say there are many fewer options as major point scorers.

Incredible. Might as well just put attackers from the 3rd place game and defenders from the final. You have the pain of only doing the team 1 hour in advance (I wouldn't risk 3rd place lineups).

You have the 3rd places for WC's there. Euros don't have 3rd places. Also note that, while there are more goals, lineups are much more unpredictable (but you'll know the lineup before the deadline).

Substitute it for brains in my post above.

Yep, might be right but had it in my mind as a slang Scots term.

Help with McDonalds Fantasy rules clarification please 🙂
I've accidentally started Mexican and German players (games on Saturday) ahead of players from Nigeria, Switzerland, and Iceland (games tomorrow).
Ideally, I would have started the players with games first, so that I can sub them out if they do not perform, for players who are yet to play.
My question is: If I sub the Nigerian, Swiss, and Icelandic players in tonight and Mexican/German players out, can I still sub Mexican/German in again tomorrow night? Or once a player is subbed, is that sub final?

FIFA rules state: "Replace any player (unless they were sent off) with one from your bench whose team is yet to play."
And: "An unlimited number of manager substitutions can be made, although it is not possible to make them after games on the last day of the Round as all fixtures will have been completed."

Sorry if this has already been asked before.
    Cheers!

You can swap players around as much as you like, provided that they haven't played yet.
