Brazil face Costa Rica in the lunchtime kick-off, with the Selecao once again heavily backed by Fantasy managers despite their disappointing opening-match draw with Switzerland.

Philippe Coutinho (£9.0m) was the only Brazil player to deliver more than just appearance points in that match against the Swiss and the former Liverpool midfielder’s ownership has risen to over 33% as a result. No player had more goal attempts (four) than Coutinho in the aforementioned 1-1 draw.

Neymar (£12.0m) blanked in that fixture and his participation in this afternoon’s match looked in some doubt after he limped out of training on Tuesday, though the Paris Saint-Germain forward has now been passed fit to play.

Around a quarter of the Fantasy managers who owned Neymar have ditched him, however, with his ownership now hovering just above the 25% mark.

Marcelo (£6.5m) is still the most-owned player in McDonald’s FIFA, with 42.9% of Fantasy managers selecting the Real Madrid full-back in their squads. Kieran Trippier (six) and Joshua Kimmich (five) were the only defenders to create more chances than Marcelo (three) in the opening round of group matches.

Gabriel Jesus‘ (£9.0m) ownership has dipped below the 10% mark after his blank against the Swiss, while over 8% of managers still own £6.0m-rated goalkeeper Allison.

Keylor Navas (£5.0m) is the only Costa Rican player with any real Fantasy investment: the Real Madrid goalkeeper is owned by 6.8% of Fantasy managers, who will presumably be banking on save points, rather than a clean sheet, from Navas this afternoon.

The Starting Line-ups

BRAZIL XI (4-3-3): Alisson; Marcelo, Joao Miranda, Thiago Silva, Wagner; Paulinho, Casemiro, Coutinho; Neymar, Gabriel Jesus, Willian.

Costa Rica XI (3-4-2-1): Navas; Acosta, Gonzalez, Duarte; Oviedo, Guzman, Borges, Gamboa; Venegas, Ruiz; Urena.

That moment when you forgot to twist (c) from Eriksen to Coutinho :p
Best case scenario is one goal from him tonight. Might have been tempted to twist to Lukaku tomorrow anyway.

Well the only team who have impressed me more than England so far this tournament is Croatia.

Brazil rely solely on Neymar who isn't fit, Germany were slow and had no creativity in attack, same goes for France, Argentina completely clueless all over the pitch, Spain look okay to be fair, but not unbeatable.

  15. FPL Puppy

Four players from the Swedish team will not feature on today’s training, three have a stomach bug (Pontus Jansson, Filip Helander and Marcus Rohdén) and Isaac Kiese Thelin has twisted his foot. Unsure if they will feature tomorrow against Germany but the manager hope they will join up with the group tomorrow.

Do you think it is best to play the maximum captain chip in round 3? Just thinking that there are more condensed fixtures and 2 days where there aren't many players that I'd want so this might work best. Thoughts?

      • 16 Years

I can see the logic given the condensed games

there's definitely some merit, but you can also apply the same logic to the semis or final/3rd playoff too.

      1. MDK
        • 16 Years
        7 years, 8 months ago

The argument against that though is at least you get to change your captain for each semi final game, third place playoff and final.

The last round of the group stages have four games per day from which your top scoring player could come from.

it's still a case that you get 4 captaincy options R3, versus only 2 for semis or final/3rd.
there's also a fairly high chance you won't even own the highest scorer of the round for R3, whereas there's a super chance of outscoring the 'standard' captaincy picks in the semi/final if none of the popular captaincy shouts deliver.

    4. GoonerByron

      Quarters for me.

Least days to switch your captain (2 - same as semis/final) but you also have the benefit of having a bigger selection of players.

Interesting... I'm thinking in R3 or QF, not gonna be much goals in semis & final

Final and 3rd place. Clearly the most unpredictable matches and where you almost surely will pick a bad captain. Full reasoning here:

Sepp Blatter said he would back a bid by Ireland and the UK to host the World Cup in 2030.

If it happens (fingers crossed) does that mean that five teams will go to the tournament without qualifying?

Not sure why a joint bid would be needed - surely England could host the tournament easily on it's own.

As could Ireland. Or the US. Or Mexico. Or Canada.

US/Mexico/Canada bid was out of desire rather than necessity. Not sure the respective UK/Ireland FAs are on as friendly terms!

A joint Ireland bid one could be quite timely actually, as Brexit leads to the breakup of the union and Northern Ireland reunites with the south.

Ireland is the most successful country at Eurovision of all time.
Any bid will need Ireland on board to get the votes. 😉
