World Cup Fantasy managers have kept faith in reigning champions Germany, their defence especially, despite their shock defeat to Mexico.

Just under a quarter will be looking for Joshua Kimmich (£6.5m) to add to his tally of two goals and nine assists during qualifying.

His last outing was a match that showcased the best and worst of the Bayern Munich man, considered the long-term replacement for Phillip Lahm. While he had 50 touches in the final third (more than any defender at that point in the tournament), he left his team’s defence very exposed to the counter-attack.

Manuel Neuer (£6.0m) also comes into this game with heavy backing sat in 21.5 percent of squads, while 13.2 percent went for Mats Hummels (£6.0m) and 8.6 percent own Jerome Boating (£6.0m).

Further up the field is more complicated for Germany as rotation can often limit the game-time of the midfield and forwards.

However, Thomas Mueller (£9.5m), classified as.a midfielder still has 13.5 percent of World Cup Fantasy managers invested in him. Up front Timo Werner (£9.5m) has just 4.5 percent.

Sweden’s 1-0 win over a poor South Korea side has not forced any great transfer market shift. They come into tonight’s match with no player owned by more than 2.4 percent – the ownership levels of budget midfielder Gustav Svensson (£4.5m), who played just nine minutes in Gameround 1.

There has been an increase from 0.9 to 1.9 percent ownership for defender Andreas Granqvist (£5.0m), who takes Sweden’s penalties. The most fashionable stopper for the Swedes is Manchester United man Victor Lindelof (£5.0m), yet to play any part in Russia after an illness ruled him out of the win over South Korea.

In the last 16 editions of the #WorldCup, since 1954, #GER have NEVER failed to reach the last eight. In that time: 4 wins, 4 times runners-up; 4 times semi-finalists on top; 4 times last 8.
