Join Draft Kings for England v Belgium World Cup Showdown

Draft Kings are back with another exciting contest for Fantasy managers to get involved in as the World’s biggest sporting tournament continues.

They are running two “Showdown” contests for England’s final World Cup Group Stage match against Belgium on Thursday. Two teams, one match, select six players of any position – it’s that easy.

Here are the contests:

  • Contest 1: $40,000 prize pool, $10,000 to 1st Place, $10 entry: CLICK HERE
  • Contest 2: $5,000 prize pool, deposit $5 or more for FREE ENTRY: CLICK HERE

In the meantime, follow THIS LINK to play in additional DraftKings’ contests for FREE, with a deposit $5 or more.

We’ve got everything you need to know to play this format, how it’s scored and a few players who stand to do well in the fixture.

Having partnered with DraftKings for other league campaigns, many of our readers will be more than familiar with their set-up.

We’re excited for the contest, but an FYI: we receive a commission from DraftKings, but are not employees of DraftKings and don’t have any access to non-public info. These are just our personal thoughts on the matchups.

HOW DOES SHOWDOWN WORK?

In salary cap contests, participants will create a lineup by selecting 6 players listed in the Player Pool. Each player listed has an assigned salary and a valid lineup must not exceed the salary cap of $50,000.

Contest results will be determined by the total points accumulated by each individual lineup entry (scoring rules summarised below).

Participation in each contest must be made only as specified in the Terms of Use. Failure to comply with these Terms of Use will result in disqualification and, if applicable, prize forfeiture.

HOW IS IT SCORED?

Scoring in DraftKings is perfectly suited to members of Fantasy Football Scout in need for a summer tournament.
As mentioned in previous articles, members who have joined up already for the 2018/19 season have access to the qualifying rounds for Europe and South America and for international friendlies involving the participating nations, as well as the data for the tournament itself.

Aside from the obvious goals, assists and clean sheets, among the on-pitch actions included are shots on goal, crosses, fouls won, successful tackles and interceptions.
Here’s a summary of the new DraftKings scoring matrix:

WHO ARE THE BEST PLAYERS TO SIGN?

The best way to succeed in tomorrow’s Draft Kings Showdown is to make the most of the additional avenues for points scoring. For the basic Fantasy returns, we’ve looked at those in other articles this week but this is our chance to go a little deeper.

With players receiving points for shots on goal then Harry Kane, Romelu Lukaku or Michy Batshuayi are key targets. All three of them have had six efforts on goal in their last two matches, Kane scoring five times, Lukaku four and Batshuayi once. The Englishman is more assured of a start in the match while Lukaku is an injury doubt, Batshuayi the favourite to replace him in the starting line-up.

Passing incentives could justify investment in Jordan Henderson who has found his team-mates more times than any other England player so far. Meanwhile, Kevin De Bruyne has created more chances than any other midfielder.

Extra points are also awarded in Showdown for successful crosses making Kieran Trippier worth considering. No defender has created more chances than the England man at the World Cup so far, all of them coming from wide areas. Belgium full-back Thomas Meunier has offered creative potential as a wide-man too, although his yellow card against Panama makes him a rotation risk.

With points on offer for drawing fouls, Kane and Raheem Sterling have extra appeal. Both players have been fouled three times in each in England’s last two matches.

Fantasy Football Scout promotes DraftKings but we are also avid fans and users, and may sometimes play on our personal account in the games that we offer advice on. Although we have expressed our personal views on the games and strategies above, they do not necessarily reflect the view(s) of DraftKings and we may also deploy different players and strategies than what we recommend above. We are not employees of DraftKings and do not have access to any non-public information.

    - Jrod

I'm going RR captain today, even though I have Reus, Couts, Kimmich and Shaqiri possible captain choices. The reason is Costa Rica are by far the poorest side playing today. The Swiss lined up very defensively against Brazil for obvious reasons but against Serbia they were much more attacking and RR found himself with a couple of half chances himself to score. He takes corners and penos too.
Reus and Kimmich and Germany have been great at getting to the final third but their end product lacks.
Couts against Serbia, I just don't know. Ireland played Serbia and should have bet them home and away in the qualifiers. Serbia are playing now with a solid defense but it's Couts and Brazil!!? Couts is the sensible choice, but RR for me offers me a bit of excitement, they should should keep a clean sheet against Costa Rica, so I'm almost banking that, and the way penos have been handed out, he has a good chance of getting one. And if not, he's an attacking player anyway, could take a half chance this time.
And if if not....I always have James to fall back on tomorrow.

      • 8 Years

I was on the same wavelength but now I'm reconsidering.

We saw how Denmark - France played out. Games where there is less at stake can peter out into boring 0-0s. Switzerland have little incentive to win just to not lose. I don't see R. Rod being anywhere near as offensive, just conservative and solid in possession.

    Currently on Messi.

Today, I have the options of Reus, Kimmich, Fagner and Ricardo Rodriguez.

I will go with Kimmich and if I did not have Kimmich, I'd go with Reus.

Germany more likely to get CS than the Swiss imo. Kimmich more likely to be involved, unlucky not to get points yet. Hopefully, he is due just like Isco and Messi.

At least, he has had some offensive opportunities. With R-Rod, it is a bet solely on freekicks and pens.

Germany is favored to score 3 or more goals, I'd like to get in on that coupled with a 50/50 CS.

I think the opposite about clean sheet potential. The Germans have been so open at the back every time they attack (and they're in the oppositions final third a lot!) that the likes of Son will only relish a half chance to run into an empty German half and score. I think the Germans are very likely to concede today, and I think Costa Rica are too poor to score, think they've only had 4 or 5 shots in their other 2 games in total! Good luck with your choice, it's a tough one this round, wish I'd kept my max captain!

The 3-0 victory for Uruguay over Russia on Monday again highlighted some anomalies between the two formats:

    - The free kick scored by Luis Suarez was won by Rodrigo Bentacur.

    - Diego Laxalt's deflected strike, was (correctly) accredited as a Denis Cheryshev own goal.

    - Edison Cavani's late goal was tapped in following an Igor Akinfeev save to deny Diego Godin.

None of the goals were accredited with assists under FWC rules.
Conversely, under the rules for FPL, Bentacur, Laxalt and Godin would each have been awarded 3 pts for a 'fantasy' assist.

Fantasy assists of course include pts for winning a penalty if the spot kick is converted - whereas in FWC, winning a penalty is rewarded with 2pts whether or not it is converted.

The leading fantasy assist player in FPL last season was Raheem Sterling with 6 returns (including penalties won). Richarlison, Gabriel Jesus, Alexis Sanchez and Wilfred Zaha each provided 4 fantasy assists for their owners.

Which format do you prefer in this matter?
Does more pts really = more fun?
Are you a purist and believe assists to be only awarded for direct passes.

Should FPL and FWC learn from each other?

Gotta keep the fantasy assists! More points available creates more banter in my work/mates mini-leagues. I don't get the 2 points for winning a penalty even if it's not scored? I think that's wrong.
I do like the captaincy change option.

Prefer FPL for assists - Laxalt shot created the goal. Pen award system in WC is good. More points = more fun.

Those were his fantasy assists, not counting the actual real assists.

Similarly, I have 6 fantasy concubines but only 1 real actual set of ball and chain.

think he means assists for Penalty's or free-kicks awarded that where scored. i.e Sterling gets fouled a lot in the box

Love the 2 points for winning a pen rule. To be honest I think FPL has gone a bit too far with awarding assists as there were some controversial ones last year if I remember. Keep it to direct passes and rebounds and bring in 2 points for winning a pen!!

I like the 2pts for winning a pen.

I wonder whether MaccyD's arent missing a trick in not at least awarding 2pts for a key contribution awarded for these 'fantasy assist' situations.

That and a lack of bonus points are a real miss from McD game IMO.

The other issue is that targeting players who are assist machines (such as KDB or Kimmich) is less viable as they are slightly less likely to deliver points 🙁

FWC assists are way better - there's much more clarity and there will never be any phantom assists or McAuley-gate to argue about. Also no more of that 'Rooney passes sideways to Sigurdsson at the half-way line before Sigurdsson dribbles past everyone and rifles a shot to the top corner' kind of assist.

FPL should learn from and adopt FWC assist system. It's been s refreshing change from the weekly make it up as you go in FPL imo. Subjective I guess

With so many asking about captaincy, let's try to collect questions here:

How has your captain done so far in Round 3?

Are you unsure whether to stick or twist? What are your options?

Please post your questions here and share your thoughts on captaincy strategy for today.

Was on Cavani’s 6 (x2). Got Reus Kimmich and Rodriguez today. Switched to Rodriguez as almost certainly a clean sheet to equal Cavani and good chance of penalty and goal/assist potential.

Got 2 points each from my first 2 captains Costa & Higuain!

RR, Reus & Coutinho are the main contenders today.
RR is really tempting as Swiss have a good chance of CS and he’s on pens + set pieces. With James to fall back on tom I might gamble on RR.

      Messi 5.

      RRod, Sommer, Akanji, Kimmich today.

Will go RRod. What’s one more egg in the Swiss defence basket.

I'm still on Suarez 6(x2).. Think I'm going to stick. Would have moved to Eriksen yesterday so the stick was the right choice and I have Coutinho/R Rod and Kane left.

Bit worried about a R Rod clean sheet + attacking returns, but could easily concede, and not convinced Kane will start tomorrow..

6 pointer from SUAREZ just feels a bit average for me. Having only MEUNIER(doubt) tomorrow i'm tempted to take a punt on Reus, that's the reason why I brought him on, could go big or blank. Kimmich, jesus and Mueller have been disappointing for me so far.

Had Salah with his 6. Shame he didn't go on from there to take the matter out of my hands.

I'm sitting at 14k OR and there's becoming a gap above me so I'm willing to take a punt on Kimmich with Falcao as a last desperate throw of the dice tomorrow.

BUT I am not in any cash mini leagues, I'm purely looking at OR. If I were in a cash league, I think it's most sensible to bank any return. I'd be happy with a single return in FPL and with the rounds now being shorter, there's much less scope for swapping.

I do think the lack of bonus is throwing us a bit. Many of these 6 or 7 point returns would have been 8-10 in FPL which has perhaps conditioned us that 6 is poor.

Fantasy bet says CS odds are 6.5 Serbia and 11 South Korea. For these reasons I am tempted by Reus/Kimmich over Coutinho who would of course be a solid bet also.

We also need to ask the question - what are we expecting from a captain? If we would twist on a single goal then we surely need to look at someone who can score two. For me that only leaves Neymar or Reus out of the highly-owned assets.

The safest pick for points of some sort is probably Kimmich but I would expect either a goal/assist or a clean sheet, perhaps not both as South Korea may well need to throw the kitchen sink at Germany late on.

This is the perfect round for max captain chip, but I played mine last round when I didn't even need to. Captains have been Ronaldo and Cueva. Options today like so many others are Reus, Kimmich, Couts, RR, Shaqiri, hey even Granqvist is not a bad option! But I'm going RR. He has good numbers to back this up, plus on penos/corners, plus Costa Rica couldn't score in a granny brothel with Rooney as their guide.
I really think South Korea will score. Having looked at the Germans play, they'd find it tough scoring in that granny brothel too!
Couts is the sensible choice today. 2 goals so far, will get most of the chances to score today in his game too. But the maverick move is RR. I, like lots here too have 2 Swiss defense, so I may as well go all in with RR captain.
PS: I would go Couts if I didn't have James tomorrow.

Sort of depends what Sommer gets.

So you’ll be Sommer (if less than 7) plus Costa (2), Cheryshev (-1) plus your next lowest from the matches prior to tomorrow.

Still could be 7/8+ which is decent.
