Draft Kings are back with another exciting contest for Fantasy managers to get involved in as the World’s biggest sporting tournament continues.
They are running two “Showdown” contests for England’s final World Cup Group Stage match against Belgium on Thursday. Two teams, one match, select six players of any position – it’s that easy.
Here are the contests:
- Contest 1: $40,000 prize pool, $10,000 to 1st Place, $10 entry: CLICK HERE
- Contest 2: $5,000 prize pool, deposit $5 or more for FREE ENTRY: CLICK HERE
In the meantime, follow THIS LINK to play in additional DraftKings’ contests for FREE, with a deposit $5 or more.
We’ve got everything you need to know to play this format, how it’s scored and a few players who stand to do well in the fixture.
Having partnered with DraftKings for other league campaigns, many of our readers will be more than familiar with their set-up.
We’re excited for the contest, but an FYI: we receive a commission from DraftKings, but are not employees of DraftKings and don’t have any access to non-public info. These are just our personal thoughts on the matchups.
HOW DOES SHOWDOWN WORK?
In salary cap contests, participants will create a lineup by selecting 6 players listed in the Player Pool. Each player listed has an assigned salary and a valid lineup must not exceed the salary cap of $50,000.
Contest results will be determined by the total points accumulated by each individual lineup entry (scoring rules summarised below).
Participation in each contest must be made only as specified in the Terms of Use. Failure to comply with these Terms of Use will result in disqualification and, if applicable, prize forfeiture.
HOW IS IT SCORED?
Scoring in DraftKings is perfectly suited to members of Fantasy Football Scout in need for a summer tournament. As mentioned in previous articles, members who have joined up already for the 2018/19 season have access to the qualifying rounds for Europe and South America and for international friendlies involving the participating nations, as well as the data for the tournament itself.
Aside from the obvious goals, assists and clean sheets, among the on-pitch actions included are shots on goal, crosses, fouls won, successful tackles and interceptions. Here’s a summary of the new DraftKings scoring matrix:

WHO ARE THE BEST PLAYERS TO SIGN?
The best way to succeed in tomorrow’s Draft Kings Showdown is to make the most of the additional avenues for points scoring. For the basic Fantasy returns, we’ve looked at those in other articles this week but this is our chance to go a little deeper.
With players receiving points for shots on goal then Harry Kane, Romelu Lukaku or Michy Batshuayi are key targets. All three of them have had six efforts on goal in their last two matches, Kane scoring five times, Lukaku four and Batshuayi once. The Englishman is more assured of a start in the match while Lukaku is an injury doubt, Batshuayi the favourite to replace him in the starting line-up.
Passing incentives could justify investment in Jordan Henderson who has found his team-mates more times than any other England player so far. Meanwhile, Kevin De Bruyne has created more chances than any other midfielder.
Extra points are also awarded in Showdown for successful crosses making Kieran Trippier worth considering. No defender has created more chances than the England man at the World Cup so far, all of them coming from wide areas. Belgium full-back Thomas Meunier has offered creative potential as a wide-man too, although his yellow card against Panama makes him a rotation risk.
With points on offer for drawing fouls, Kane and Raheem Sterling have extra appeal. Both players have been fouled three times in each in England’s last two matches.
Fantasy Football Scout promotes DraftKings but we are also avid fans and users, and may sometimes play on our personal account in the games that we offer advice on. Although we have expressed our personal views on the games and strategies above, they do not necessarily reflect the view(s) of DraftKings and we may also deploy different players and strategies than what we recommend above. We are not employees of DraftKings and do not have access to any non-public information.
