Draft Kings are back with another exciting contest for Fantasy managers to get involved in as the World’s biggest sporting tournament continues.

They are running two “Showdown” contests for England’s final World Cup Group Stage match against Belgium on Thursday. Two teams, one match, select six players of any position – it’s that easy.

Here are the contests:

  • Contest 1: $40,000 prize pool, $10,000 to 1st Place, $10 entry: CLICK HERE
  • Contest 2: $5,000 prize pool, deposit $5 or more for FREE ENTRY: CLICK HERE

In the meantime, follow THIS LINK to play in additional DraftKings’ contests for FREE, with a deposit $5 or more.

We’ve got everything you need to know to play this format, how it’s scored and a few players who stand to do well in the fixture.

Having partnered with DraftKings for other league campaigns, many of our readers will be more than familiar with their set-up.

We’re excited for the contest, but an FYI: we receive a commission from DraftKings, but are not employees of DraftKings and don’t have any access to non-public info. These are just our personal thoughts on the matchups.

HOW DOES SHOWDOWN WORK?

In salary cap contests, participants will create a lineup by selecting 6 players listed in the Player Pool. Each player listed has an assigned salary and a valid lineup must not exceed the salary cap of $50,000.

Contest results will be determined by the total points accumulated by each individual lineup entry (scoring rules summarised below).

Participation in each contest must be made only as specified in the Terms of Use. Failure to comply with these Terms of Use will result in disqualification and, if applicable, prize forfeiture.

HOW IS IT SCORED?

Scoring in DraftKings is perfectly suited to members of Fantasy Football Scout in need for a summer tournament.
As mentioned in previous articles, members who have joined up already for the 2018/19 season have access to the qualifying rounds for Europe and South America and for international friendlies involving the participating nations, as well as the data for the tournament itself.

Aside from the obvious goals, assists and clean sheets, among the on-pitch actions included are shots on goal, crosses, fouls won, successful tackles and interceptions.
Here’s a summary of the new DraftKings scoring matrix:

WHO ARE THE BEST PLAYERS TO SIGN?

The best way to succeed in tomorrow’s Draft Kings Showdown is to make the most of the additional avenues for points scoring. For the basic Fantasy returns, we’ve looked at those in other articles this week but this is our chance to go a little deeper.

With players receiving points for shots on goal then Harry Kane, Romelu Lukaku or Michy Batshuayi are key targets. All three of them have had six efforts on goal in their last two matches, Kane scoring five times, Lukaku four and Batshuayi once. The Englishman is more assured of a start in the match while Lukaku is an injury doubt, Batshuayi the favourite to replace him in the starting line-up.

Passing incentives could justify investment in Jordan Henderson who has found his team-mates more times than any other England player so far. Meanwhile, Kevin De Bruyne has created more chances than any other midfielder.

Extra points are also awarded in Showdown for successful crosses making Kieran Trippier worth considering. No defender has created more chances than the England man at the World Cup so far, all of them coming from wide areas. Belgium full-back Thomas Meunier has offered creative potential as a wide-man too, although his yellow card against Panama makes him a rotation risk.

With points on offer for drawing fouls, Kane and Raheem Sterling have extra appeal. Both players have been fouled three times in each in England’s last two matches.

Fantasy Football Scout promotes DraftKings but we are also avid fans and users, and may sometimes play on our personal account in the games that we offer advice on. Although we have expressed our personal views on the games and strategies above, they do not necessarily reflect the view(s) of DraftKings and we may also deploy different players and strategies than what we recommend above. We are not employees of DraftKings and do not have access to any non-public information.

Also playing a different kind of game with this team atm

    Muslera
    Verthongen Trippier Caraces Carvajal
    Willian Quintero Lingard
    Suarez Mbappe D.Costa

team looking alright for round of 16? If I make any transfers I kinda need a goal/CS to atleast break even

or any player I really should consider?

William as your only Brazil asset would worry me. Coutinho/Jesus/Neymar will share the points today me thinks...

Id say thats pretty solid. Are you expecting Uruguay to knock Portugal out to nil then?

Guess thier defenders and keeper are well priced and the same with Quintero?

Id still want a German in their especially if they avoid Brazil

So am I right in thinking that if (hypothetically) Germany beat South Korea 2-0 and Sweden beat Mexico 1-0 then Germany will top the group on GD?

I read an article on the BBC which was a bit misleading on whether or not Germany can actually still go through as group winners.

    Thanks

Yes. Germany advance as group winners in that situation. But Mexico have looked really good. Hard to see them losing to Sweden.

Yeah its still a bit of a stretch but Sweden were a bit unfortunate against Germany so could scrape a 1-0

Mexico have been excellent in abusing a high line; I doubt they'll have much fun of that sort when facing the low-sitting Swedes. We'll see, should (okay, could) be a good match and it's a problem to pick which one to watch live today.

Swedes can't sit back because unless South Korea do them a favour, they are done.

They sat back vs. Germany and weren't very far from going 2-0 up before half time.

True but the situation dictated that Germany needed to win and Sweden just needed a draw. The exact opposite situation is in play today. If they sit back Mexico would surely be very happy to play out a group winning 0-0.

They can go through as group winners. If both Sweden and Germany win today, then the team with the best GD qualifies as #1.

    Early R16 draft:

    Alisson Hassen
Carvajal Lovren Meunier R. Rod Sakai
    Isco Modric Coutinho Quintero Sanchez
    Ronaldo Costa Lukaku

Obviously lots of changes to be made but it looks decent for a baseline. I'm in favor of the fodder route.

I know. But nice to spread the funds now and see what I can make. Also, if you haven't already, buy the deadweight fodders before they're removed from the game.

Hassen, Sanchez, Sakai. If any of them get eliminated you won't be able to buy them back.

Depending on how today plays out I would probably still be more in favour of Neymar than Ronaldo if they avoid Germany.

Also is Tripps the same prices as R. Rod? If yes I would get him in.

Good solid base though as you say

Yeah. But they're almost certainly playing Germany (unless there's a shock and Germany don't advance). Very unlikely that Germany advance as group winners and Brazil topping the group is also very likely.

Do we think either of the following players could be benched or pulled off early?
    Neymar( YC)
    Cout(YC)
Jesus(Underwhelming of late, maybe Firmino is given the nod today)

They will all start as its still an important game IMO. jesus to be subbed early again and the others to get 90 mins.

Possibly Neymar early sub if games wrapped up with the risk of yellows for diving

Jesus hit the post last time around and was instrumental in making the winning goal happen.

Could be mbapped out today, though, in a role-reversal with Firmino.

Look at the transfers page now for R16. You can't buy Uzoho or the Iran players. They're removing them from the game as soon as they're out.

If you buy them now while they're still in the game (even though mathematically eliminated) like Hassen. You are allowed to keep them and their corresponding cheap price.

So buy Hassen, Sakai and Sanchez now (3.9, 4.4, 3.9) in case they are removed from the game and you can't get them. Hassen especially since Tunisia are mathematically eliminated.

      1. Feloh

I'm more inclined to set up my team with at least half decent players on the bench.
        or
aren't there other cheap nailed on players from decent teams that i could sub in once a player in my starting eleven gets a 1 or a 2 pointer?

I think that's flawed for a few reasons.

If you get say a few 5.0 defenders instead of a 6.0 and a 4.0, they're more likely to be from teams at risk of elimination like Mexico etc. If they get eliminated you're in trouble in terms of replacements.

          Here's an example:
You get Lovren and Salcedo both at 5.0m.

If one or both gets eliminated, you have 5.0m to get a replacement which is going to be really hard to find a starter from a contending team at that price.

If you instead get say Pique and Sakai at 6.0m and 3.9m.

Not only is Pique more likely to survive, if he does go out, you can easily transfer him to another 6.0m defender from a contending team like T. Silva or smth.

I can see the benefit if you don't have BB and do have wildcard.

But I still think the unpredictability of a major tournament means spreading the love around teams is sensible, even if it wasn't dictated by price.

              • 8 Years

I also do have a wild card and no benchboost.

It really depends how you wanna do it. I think in order to actually win you'll need to maximize team value and you can't do that by spreading the funds across 15 players. 13 maybe, 12 more likely but all 15 is seriously unlikely to work.

          2. Feloh
            • 8 Years
            7 years, 5 months ago

Wasn't looking at it from that angle. I thought my unlimited round of 16 transfers plus my QF wild card would be enough to hedge against such risks, I think I'll reconsider.

Might be worth thinking about if you plan to keep a 4.0 bench fodder player in your R16 and beyond team.

When you're stuck between two captain options, Kimmich vs Coutinho for example, what info do you personally look at to decide?
