How to win World Cup Fantasy knockouts using set-pieces and penalties

Set-pieces continue to dominate the World Cup Fantasy with many of the top performers finding the net from penalties, corners and free-kicks.

So we’ve collated all the data available to us so Members can assess which nations are the best to invest in for the knockout stages of the World Cup.

It would appear that Uruguay, Spain, Brazil and England are the teams worth looking at, while Croatia look susceptible to set-pieces defensively.

READ NEXT: Our transfer tips and stats for the World Cup Fantasy knockout stages

Our research includes each team’s penalty takers based on who has been handed the responsibility at the tournament itself, in qualifying and in friendlies too.

We’ve listed how many of each type of set-piece each player has taken, but if there is no number next to their name it’s because they took at least one in qualifying and/or warm-up games but are yet to take one at the World Cup itself.

We’ve also calculated which teams concede the most fouls and attempts from set-plays too to help you pick the best match-up from the fixtures.

To clarify, the ‘Attempts from set plays’ section combines those who have shot from direct free-kicks or those who have latched onto the end of a corner.

The deadline for Gameround 4 is at 15:00 BST on Saturday June 30, so make sure you sort your team in time.

World Cup Data

We’re delighted to offer World Cup data as an early addition to our regular season offering to help those playing Fantasy games over the summer.

We’ve secured Opta data, not only for the tournament itself, but also from the Qualifying Rounds for Europe and South America and for international friendlies involving the participating nations. This includes all the matches played right up to the tournament kick-off.

Just to stress, this World Cup offering comes packaged with the regular Fantasy Football Scout membership.

Colombia 2,07 expected goals in group stage.
Only Costa Rica, Russia and Iran were worse.
And J Rod may not play.

The template that has formed seems to go with logic and the 5m extra has made it easier for most to buy into it.

Though fact is I do need differentials, but cant seem to find any. So do share if you have any ideas.

I was a bit confused by reports quoting AS suggesting that Ramos was now the main penalty takers, but also reports quoting AS saying that he's been dropped as a penalty taker.

Seems like a mistranslated one then. Thanks for clearing up.

Fantasy Football Scout Daily Hot Topic

With a full day without football, we will inevitably spend much of our time getting our Fantasy sides ready for the Round of 16. But the break also gives us a chance to look back at what was an exciting and successful Group Stage.

Which game did you enjoy most?

Who is the star of the tournament so far?

Who will win the golden boot?

Has your prediction for who will win the World Cup changed?

I have to say I enjoyed Croatia-Argentina the most, although that is a bit personal as well as I am watching the world cup in Croatia.

The stars for me so far are Coutinho, Modric and Ronaldo. Had the latter had His beauty sleep it would undoubtedly be Him, and I have him favorite to win the golden boot.

I thought Spain or Brazil would win, and I still think they are the favorites, but Croatia and Belgium are also looking strong. Cant really believe in Belgium until they beat a strong team under Martinez, which has never happened. I have a feeling they will be hammered by Brazil.

Hi - has anyone got max captain still available? If so, when are you planning on using it?

I've used bench boost so cannot use for round of 16

Id say RD16 could be some big results. Brazil Spain, Begium England have more teams for better return potential on max captain.

QF is the last resort. after that the pool of player will be less and games tigghter

What's the template last 16 WC then? Not sure I have the time to figure it all out. 🙂

Are people planning ahead if you've already used your wildcard?

I think midfield picks itself: Coutinho Modric Isco Quintero Inui

I just can't fathom why Inui is so popular when you're only going to get him for one match against a far superior Belgium. You're so much better off spreading cash and getting a solid 15!

Personally on Coutinho, Isco, Lingard, Carrasco, Claesson
Biggest miss for me at the moment is Modric, but ah well, what can you do 😛

*May do Carrasco --> Quintero, undecided atm

Hi guys, I've come up with that team for the round of 16, what do you think? Thanks

    Subasic
    Carvajal TiagoSilva Meunier Trippier
    Isco Modric Coutinho
    Kane Costa Lukaku

    3.9GK Akanji Casemiro Quintero

I've tried to maximize on the team having a good game (Brazil, Spain, Belgium, Croatia) and avoid difficult games like Argentina-France and Uruguay-Portugal

    posted in wrong thread,

is it madness to go without Kane up front? currently have Ronaldo, costa and Kaku as my front 3. just want to try something different and hope it pays off as my Ranking is very bad. Go big or go home ;)...going big on Ronaldo

No, 2 free headers v Tunisia and 2 penalties plus a deflection v Panama. Not as if he’s been unplayable

I would go for L.Suarez/Cavani instead and use $ for another diff mid.

thanks but owned Cavani uptil now..just so fed up with Uruguay attack i dnt want any from them. Ronaldo can explode whereas Suarez/ Cavani will only get at most 1 goal. i might be wrong though

    Muslera - Olsen
    Meunier - Miranda - Carvajal - Trip - Strinic
    Isco - Modric - Coutinho - Claesson - Inui
    Costa - Kane - Lukaku

    Or maybe: Olsen>4.0, Muslera>Curtois, Meunier>Godin, Costa>Hazard???

    Repost

Playing on a local site so rules are slightly different, but point structure the same. 4 transfers per fixture.

    Thoughts on this:
    Ronaldo + Lewandowski + Eriksen + Hector —> Lukaku + Kane + Quintero + Strinic

    That would give me:

    Lukaku - Kane - Cavani
    Isco - Coutinho - Quintero
    Ramos - Marcelo - Meunier - Strinic
    Pickford

Any advice is highly appreciated. Thanks guys!
