Set-pieces continue to dominate the World Cup Fantasy with many of the top performers finding the net from penalties, corners and free-kicks.

So we’ve collated all the data available to us so Members can assess which nations are the best to invest in for the knockout stages of the World Cup.

It would appear that Uruguay, Spain, Brazil and England are the teams worth looking at, while Croatia look susceptible to set-pieces defensively.

READ NEXT: Our transfer tips and stats for the World Cup Fantasy knockout stages

Our research includes each team’s penalty takers based on who has been handed the responsibility at the tournament itself, in qualifying and in friendlies too.

We’ve listed how many of each type of set-piece each player has taken, but if there is no number next to their name it’s because they took at least one in qualifying and/or warm-up games but are yet to take one at the World Cup itself.

We’ve also calculated which teams concede the most fouls and attempts from set-plays too to help you pick the best match-up from the fixtures.

To clarify, the ‘Attempts from set plays’ section combines those who have shot from direct free-kicks or those who have latched onto the end of a corner.

The deadline for Gameround 4 is at 15:00 BST on Saturday June 30, so make sure you sort your team in time.

World Cup Data

We’re delighted to offer World Cup data as an early addition to our regular season offering to help those playing Fantasy games over the summer.

We’ve secured Opta data, not only for the tournament itself, but also from the Qualifying Rounds for Europe and South America and for international friendlies involving the participating nations. This includes all the matches played right up to the tournament kick-off.

Just to stress, this World Cup offering comes packaged with the regular Fantasy Football Scout membership.

Yeah i think Belgium will beat Japan but fancy Brazil to beat Belgium in the quarters. Also Belgium attack creates a headache for me as i want to captain Neymar. Cant justify paying 10.1m for a player i wont captain.

Highly recommend unlocking those FWDs to fit Lukaku in. BEL vs JPN has the highest chance of being a rout. Costa > Lukaku

Find the money by downgrading Trip and Pique to Carvajal and Maguire.

Muselera & Courtois will play on the same day next round if they go though. Doubts over Fagner minutes (long term). I'd probably put in Meunier for FAgner and put in a different keeper. But if you still have WC none of this will be an issue.

I'm not sure I like Inui or the 3.9 keeper though - even if you don't have a bench boost left I'd want to have options. Especially if your keeper ends up being knocked out earlier than you expect and you end up with nobody.

        1. InvertedWinger
          • 11 Years
          8 years, 17 days ago

Inui is a 4.6 starter who isn't holding up money that I can just leave lying on my bench. I think if i try to spread the funds, I end up with Claesson, Quintero etc who I suspect might get knocked out and tie up funds.

Alisson being a 6m keeper means I can virtually make a single transfer and have a keeper still in the competition. That's my thinking there.

Looks ok, but a few too many clashes for my liking. I.e. you have Schmeichel and Modric - both can't get the returns you want. Same with Claesson and Akanji. Add to that I would say you have maybe 6 players who are not guaranteed starters or unlikely to make it through to the QF, with just 3 FT you may be in trouble

        • Has Moderation Rights
        • 8 Years

Fagner is a bit risky, but seems to good a price to miss (hence the Allison inclusion).
It's so tricky, it's almost impossible not to hedge your bets to a degree!
I'll have a look at Schemeichel, not overly keen to double on Switzerland or Sweden defences, perhaps Schmeichel Modric > Pickford Rakatic would be more sensible.

        1. SW6
          • 13 Years
          8 years, 17 days ago

To be honet I think you need to avoid hedging your bets as much as possible this round because we have only 3FTs. From you team above, One of Kane/Quintero, one/two of Schmeichel/Modric/Lovren, one/two of Granqist/Claesson/Akanji will no longer be in the tournament. That is a guarantee of 3 of your squad gone already before we consider any upsets, injuries, suspensions, rotation. Got to be bold and back one team imo.

          1. Pierce34
            • 10 Years
            8 years, 17 days ago

What if you don't hedge your bets and the teams you've backed get eliminated? You'd need even more hits to sort things out than if you've hedged.

            1. SW6
              • 13 Years
              8 years, 17 days ago

See below. I am largely avoiding Sweden, Swiss, Denmark, Colombia altogether. 3FTs is very small when half the players are about to be culled. A priority should be making sure as many of your 15 make it through to the QF as possible

                • 10 Years
                8 years, 17 days ago

Fair enough. I just think there's bound to be at least one big surprise somewhere (see Germany beaten by South Korea and eliminated in the groups for instance).

Anyway, as for myself I still have my wildcard so it's all good 😛

Or play it safer and load up with Spain/Belgium/Brazil players and hope for no upsets.

I agree to a degree, but only see 3 clear cut matches here : Spain(2), Brazil(3), Belgium(1) - (maybe Croatia)
I'd like to find a way to a Belgium defender, but budget won't stretch with the current premiums. Kane > Falcao would go a long way, but that seems very risky!

            1. SW6
              • 13 Years
              8 years, 17 days ago

Personally I think everyone should have 4 Spain players in their squads. They have an 'easy' match and don't play another of the big teams in the QF.

I would avoid Falcao, very risky. I would lose one of Quintero/Claesson for Inui who can stay as a bench fodder for the whole tournament and use the cash to improve Akanji to Pique

    2. Klopptomist Scott Jelly
      • 8 Years

I get that you're spreading the risk, but having both Akanji and Granqvist, Schmeichel and Modric means that you're going to have at least one each pair fails you. That's a viable tactic if you're happy to float around where you are though

    3. AndyCook
      8 years, 17 days ago

Agree with the above. Your match ups gurarntee that a few are going out straight of the bat, need WC left to sort that. And you shouldn’t pick attack v defence unless risk averse

People (incl me) assuming that France will step out of first gear for big knockout games. Griezman on penalties, class player and viable 'explosive' option for day 1 with Argentina's defense being all that.

it's more a comment on Argentina's defence! Antoine also kicked it up a gear during the euros if I remember correctly
tough call between him and Suarez for day 1 captaincy. may rethink and bring in Godin

I disagree with the above - this game is all about predictions and let's face it, we're all mostly rubbish at predictions! Hence I like the clashes, they all have good potential for points and it's impossible to know in advance who will fail to qualify. (with the exception of some really obvious ones like Belgium vs. Japan etc.)

      I like it a lot.

I just don't like a backup keeper. I think it's wasted value. With the backup keeper money you can secure your defense with Fagner > Miranda and still have some change for emergencies.

    I will use BB

    A) Costa Lukaku Kane
    Modric Coutinho Isco Claesson Inui
    Granqvist Carvajal Rodriguez Miranda Maguire
    Courtois Subasic

    B) Costa Lukaku Kane
    Modric Coutinho Isco Claesson Quintero
    Granqvist Carvajal Rodriguez Miranda Maguire
    Sommer Subasic

Trippier worth it for assist potential? Kane a better option than Costa? Or is Costa a must have

Prefer both Kane and Silva over Costa.

    Courtois - Akinfeev
    Granqvist - Boyata - Fagner - Lovren - R Rodriguez
    Coutinho - Eriksen(2) - Modric - Quintero - Claesson
    Kane(4) - Lukaku(3) - Mbappe(1)

    1 - General thoughts?
2 - Is it bench boostable? Any player not nailed?

    Thanks

Boyata and Fagner don't appear to be nailed.

Best thing about bench boost is likely extra goalkeeper clean sheets which you probably won’t get as you can normally get all other good scorers in. I would try and get two keepers with good chance of a shut-out unless you don’t have WC

    Courtois, Alisson
    Granqvist, Trippier, Muenier, Dalsgaard, Parvard
Isco, Modric, Coutinho, Claesson, C, Sanchez
    Griezmann, Kane, Hazard

On bench boost with Wildcard still to play.

    Any improvements?

Check Pavard will play with line ups and have a back up in mind. Like it

Dalsgaard is a great enabler for BB!

Croatia is a great team but I think there is CS potential for Denmark. Let's hope

I am going to copy that from you, thanks
