World Cup Fantasy managers will now have to choose between backing Brazil or Belgium in the quarter-finals.

That may prove something of a dilemma considering they have both been reliable sources of points at the tournament so far.

We’ve got all the goals, assists and Fantasy talking points from the latest set of last sixteen fixtures.

BRAZIL 2-0 MEXICO

Neymar (£12.0m) got his second of the World Cup as Brazil were able to get past Mexico without reaching their scintillating best.

The Selecao had to be patient after Mexico matched the former champions in the first-half. The central Americans also deployed an interesting tactical ploy for corners, by leaving most of their attacking players on the half-way line to commit Brazil’s centre-backs away from the penalty area.

It was Neymar’s skill that made the difference in the end, though. He had the ball on the edge of the box in the 51st minute and drove across the edge of the ‘D’, committing three defenders before back-heeling to an unmarked Willian (£8.4m).

The Chelsea man pushed on into the penalty area unchallenged and whipped a ball across the box where Neymar had reached the back-post to finish.

Brazil’s second came in the 88th minute after Roberto Firmino (£8.3m) had come on for Philippe Coutinho (£9.1m), whose blank against Mexico was his first of the tournament.

Neymar’s shot from the left forced a decent save out of Guillermo Ochoa (£5.1m), removing a potential assist on McDonald’s FIFA World Cup Fantasy, before Firmino completed a routine finish.

Fantasy managers who had captained Romelu Lukaku (£10.1m) were left a little frustrated as he registered no returns in a match with five goal-scorers.

Japan raced into a 2-0 lead at the start of the second-half with several budget options delivering points. In the 48th minute Gaku Shibasaki (£5.0m) sent Genki Haraguchi (£5.9m) through, whose fierce shot across goal nestled in the bottom left-hand corner of Thibaut Courtois’ (£6.0m) goal.

Four minutes later, Shinji Kagawa (£6.5m) teed up Takashi Inui (£4.6m) on the edge of the box who thumped the ball into the bottom right-hand corner. Belgium were stunned but still managed to fight back as Maroune Fellaini (£6.9m) and Nacer Chadli (£6.9m) came on for Yannick Carrasco (£6.5m) and Dries Mertens (£9.0m).

Those changes were in response to Japan putting high pressure on Belgium’s wing-backs, who could be at risk of rotation in future rounds accordingly.

Jan Vertonghen (£5.9m) got the Red Devils back into the game in the 69th minute with a looping header from the edge of the box which caught Eiji Kawashima (£4.4m) off-guard. Shortly after, Fellaini’s towering header from an Eden Hazard (£10.1m) cross hit the back of the net to make it 2-2.

Belgium’s winner was scored with virtually the last kick of the game. Japan had committed men forward to a corner in the 96th minute and were hit on the counter. Kevin De Bruyne (£9.9m) played the all-important pass out wide to Thomas Meunier (£6.0m), whose square ball across the box was left by Lukaku and turned in by Chadli.

    Who would you put in third mid spot?
    And what do you think about Pavard and Mbappe?

    I plan to put Pavard in def and Mbappe in place of Hazard/Kaku.
    Wit regards to mid, I probably won't be able to avoid triple players from one team so currently considering Lingard, Rakitic, Pogba, Paulinho, Willian and maybe Golovin.

      I twisted from Griezmann to Hazard, and now I think I'll just cut my losses and settle for the Belgian. I don't have any England players and I really don't want to captain a Colombian against my team in a World Cup knockout game!

          But Churchill is portrayed as a national hero when in fact he was a far right imperialist who was responsible for some heinous crimes. Unless people support his views and politics they should do a bit of history before sainting him.

            Or petition for his statue in Parliament Square to be torn down along with anything else that offends you.

            The reason Churchill is celebrated is for his wartime efforts. He's not celebrated for negative things. Times were different then. Come the revolution and you're in charge, feel free to start history from Year One and eradicate the past.

              I think having an informed view of history is needed, not an eradication of it.

              My objection is the use of this blatant racist as an icon of Englishness, when those of us who actually know what he stood for and did find him a historical embarrassment (at best).

              Today is about football, not war, and there is no need to link the two. At all.

                  Hey, I’m not saying he did nothing good, and we have reason to be grateful for his wartime leadership.

                  History also tells us he advocated the use of WMD against civilians in order to subjugate them, took bungs from oil companies to represent their interests in parliament, turned the army on striking workers in Liverpool, Glasgow and Wales, ignored and indeed exacerbated devastating famine in the commonwealth, and was shown to be in many quotes, a white supremacist.

                  To many Britons, this makes him a deeply objectionable character, and certainly not one we are comfortable seeing adorning our flag in the 21st century.

            I know my history. It's this kind of Chamberlain attitude that almost had us living under the 3rd reich. You can disassociate as much as you want but I associate him with grit, determination and victory.

                He's not just my hero pal, he's a national hero. Sure there's a minority that feel ashamed of him. I can understand that but you have to remember his era was different. You can't go back in history with today's way of thinking and just insert it there. The fact is, if it wasn't for having him as a leader, you and I probably wouldn't be here now. And as for the relevance, as I said above, it was recently D Day and what better way to get the patriotic vibes flowing. And fwiw, my grav was inspired by other historical political figures posting here, unchallenged, for months.

                  Ok, let’s sweep the bad bad bits under the carpet, (the racism, mass murder, bribery and imperialism), because after all he gave a good speech. And as such we should still celebrate him today, of all days, when we are playing football against Johnny Foreigner.

                  I’ll accept that I am in the minority here (one of the 71% who didn’t vote him as the greatest Briton) and bow to your status as national spokesperson for all good Britons.

                  By all means, carry on adorning my country’s flag with an image of a far right politician, how silly of me for questioning that. He did after all, give a good speech.

                  I am of course grateful for the efforts of millions of British and Commonwealth people who suffered greatly for my right to publicly question the brutality of the far right, rather than being oppressed by it. In their memory, I shall continue to do so

      Mandzukic has more chance to score. He is target man, and there will be a lot of crosses from flanks. Also he is pretty strong in the box, he could earn penalty. On the other side if result goes in Croatia favor, he could be subbed off for Kramaric.

    I think I prefer the C / VC options in the standard FF game. I like that you have to stand by your decision once the teams are locked in rather than this merry-go-round of moving the armband. It does add a different dimension i guess but makes you take risks with you r team.

    That being said the WC has been excellent with cracking games and upsets all over the place.

    I now have to mull over the 10 point Hazard C last night - Granquist feels very tempting (have Kane and Quintero also)
    My ML rival is 10 points ahead of me and has RL-C and Claesson(C) left to play ... decisions decisions....

          I have Trippier, Quintero and Granquist and I'm tempted to captain Claesson with Swiss conceding every game and having two of their defenders ruled out ... or Granquist.

      England for me. I care more about England winning it than I would say West Ham winning a domestic cup. I'm falling out of love with the actual domestic game. Actually enjoy fantasy more. But England winning the world cup, it's once in a life time, imagine the jubilation throughout the country, I remember Euro 96 and I've never seen the country so happy. We only made the semis but as we were host the whole vibe was and still is the best I've ever felt. I want us all to feel that again, or beat it, by winning. Dream.

        I get your point, and it might create a nice atmosphere and help boost positivity and even economic growth.

        I do wonder/worry whether all such energies would be focussed in the right way - I can see some of the euphoria spilling out into further fragmentation of society as it would give both substance and a podium for the growth of nationalism and the isolation of outsiders or the perceived 'enemies within', but let's win the thing and then we will find out 🙂

      Both are as unlikely as each other :p

      Before this World Cup and after years of disillusion with England, I'd have taken the FPL crown. Now I've somehow managed to get swept up in the passion and drama of it all and I'd probably lean towards England winning it.
