The transfer window in between the round of 16 ending and the quarter-finals commencing looked likely to pose the most problems to Fantasy managers and the early exits of Argentina, Portugal and Spain have only added to our woes.

Those with wildcards still to burn are in an enviable position, but the rest of those playing the McDonald’s FIFA World Cup game will have to make do with three permitted transfers if they are to avoid points hits.

Fantasy bosses competing in the Fantasy iTeam game will also have to wheel and deal shrewdly with their three allotted transfers, although an additional fourth transfer can, of course, be bought with credits.

With premium forwards Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo no longer an option, along with the likes of Isco, Diego Costa and David Silva, Fantasy managers may suddenly have a sizeable transfer fund at their disposal.

But where should the money be reinvested? Our team-by-team analysis of Opta’s World Cup data, which is updated and available to Fantasy Football Scout members immediately after the end of each match, gives us strong clues as to which players’ underlying statistics could translate into Fantasy points and which assets are best avoided.

World Cup Data

We’re delighted to offer World Cup data as an early addition to our regular season offering to help those playing Fantasy games over the summer.

We’ve secured Opta data, not only for the tournament itself, which begins on June 14 but also from the Qualifying Rounds for Europe and South America and for international friendlies involving the participating nations. This includes all the matches played right up to the tournament kick-off.

Just to stress, this World Cup offering comes packaged with the regular Fantasy Football Scout membership.

Check out this new trailer previewing the World Cup content below…

Most teams look very similar and everyone bringing in the same players. Any good differentials?

I might draft in Samedov as he’s playing well without getting points but he seems to be subbed a lot.

Inevitable as theres less team available. Best differential route is to triple/quad up on certain teams.

They have no opposition until Croatia in the semis.

Their only test was Belgiums B team and they created nothing then too. England have been lucky this World Cup with the draw. It’s a shame all the good teams ended up on the left hand side

Any thoughts much appreciated, thanks.

have 5 out of which 2 are okay bench fodder (Akanji and Inui). Two options:

    A) no wildcard, use 3 TF to get 2 in and change Hazard to Neymar (prefer this over changing bench fodder). This means at least 6 dead players next round and up to 12 if it goes sideways.

    Subasic Courtois

    Pavard Granqvist Trippier Miranda Akanji(OUT)

Modric Coutinh Golovin Quintero (OUT) Inui (OUT)

    Griezmann Neymar Kane

    B) Use wildcard. This would allow me to tune the bench and spread the risk - 5-10 dead players next round (of which at least 2 are okay bench fodder)

    Alisson Akinfeev

    Pavard Granqvist Trippier Meunier Lovren

    Modric Coutinho Lingard Claesson Svensson

    Mbappe Neymar Kane

Overall second squad looks better, and even with 1-2 upsets I could manage an okay team with bench fodder.

    Opinions?

English fans have been poor in this tournament. Too many are content to watch the game on their big screen smart TVs at home while munching prawn sandwiches. It was like an away game tonight and the atmosphere hampered England's chances of going through. Well done to the fans who actually went out there, but they were completely outnumbered by a country whose gross domestic product is a fraction of the UKs. Without more support in the stadiums, I can't see England going much further.

It wasn't a post about you personally. Unlike in Columbia, there is a wider problem with malaise and the national team. If it was Liverpool in the champions league, that stadium last night would have been a sea of red.

£££ is ridiculous these days to finance supporting your team at the WC. They're wasn't much expectation for this torunie, so I guess most didn't feel like seeing upwards of 5 grand go down the drain for very little return. saw that tickets for today were selling for as much as £513 quid

No one doubts it is expensive but it is expensive for all the fans including Columbians. It was just really disheartening to see England having to play in a very hostile stadium while 18 million watch at home.

Finals. Unpredictable top scorers. Final usually a very low-scoring game with unpredictable deciders (defender goals, or defenders with clean sheet and assist). 3rd place has some points in it but lineups can be all turned on their heads.

Either way. Not ideal, but you don't HAVE to have 15 players. Replace Ronaldo, Costa, Shakiri for free. They're very expensive players, so you can afford anyone you want really.

    BUZZING AFTER TONIGHT.

Trippier and Pickford concede in fantasy football but I really don't care that much. Going to play through to the end anyway. Ohhh and captain Kane, on what's been an otherwise terrible round. 42 points for the round and sitting 148k overall and 4th/25 in my work league. That said, not a single player of mine got eliminated so probably in a decent position going forward compared to some. Bench boost and wildcard were both used in round 3. I'll probably play the max cap chip this round.

Thoughts on what I should do?

Pickford, 3.9 Saudi keeper (won't transfer out)
    Boyata, Pavard, Lovren, Strinic, Maguire
    Rakitic, Modric, Lingard, Pogba, Carrasco
    Lukaku, Giroud, Kane

3 free transfers. €0.4m in the bank.

Boyata probably needs the chop. Lukaku may struggle against Brazil too. Them two out for Mbape and Trippier? Would leave me with €0.9m.

Another option would be to get Loftus-Cheek in for Carrasco, then get an alternative to Trippier as I'll have maxed out on England. Probably someone French.

Sorry for the giddy post. Hope you can understand! #itscominghoooome

What do you think about Strinic? Will he be fit for next match? Got him but he was subbed injured last match and couldn't get any news on him...

Thanks for that - didn't realise. I'll monitor him and consider transferring him out.

Seems he is back on training as Professor Bear said above!

RLC is not likely to be a starter in the final, unfortunately

You're right. My thinking is rather short-sighted on that one.

Still, I we get 5 transfers. My eggs are in very few baskets, so if all my players go through again, can transfer him out for the semis, or for the finals.

If I did go for RLC, Mbape, Varane (or some French defender), would give me...

        5x French (v Uruguay)
        5x English (v Sweden)
        4x Croatian (v Russia)

If more than one of those teams goes out, it'll be a complete disaster anyway and I'll have to take a load of hits.

If only one team goes out, I can probably afford to transfer out RLC if necessary.

How nailed on is Giroud, too? Thanks for your help 😀

      You need Couts or Neymar

Thanks. They'd be nice. Both would be tricky to accommodate. Had avoided Brazil, simply because of my all eggs in few baskets approach, and most players were very expensive (bar Fagner).

A u-turn on Belgium might be an option. If I downgrade Carrasco to RLC, could fund Lukaku to Neymar.

Pogba to Coutinho could alternatively be on the cards.

    Which looks better?

    a) Trippier, Claesson, Neymar
    b) Trippier, Rakitic, Mbappe
    c) Pavard, Lingard, Neymar

Whichever you think will win. I think France

Without Cavani, France for sure. With him may be tighter but I prefer France.
