Brighton and Hove Albion‘s debut season in the Premier League was an all-round success, with the Seagulls never seriously involved in the relegation shake-up at any point during the campaign.

Their players were an inexpensive source of Fantasy points too, with five Brighton assets breaking the 100-point mark in Fantasy Premier League.

Glenn Murray and Pascal Gross proved to be excellent value in attack and midfield, while Mathew Ryan, Shane Duffy and Lewis Dunk were popular budget buys in defence.

However, Brighton’s away record was the worst in the Premier League in 2017/18, the Seagulls picking up just 11 points and scoring on only ten occasions on their travels last season.

The Seagulls’ form at the Amex Stadium was admirable, though, with only five teams losing on fewer occasions (four) than Chris Hughton’s side.

On paper, then, Brighton assets would have been best used in rotation. However, half of the Seagulls’ ten clean sheets came on the road, as did five of Murray’s 12 league goals.

Gross, at least, was a Fantasy asset who obliged a home/away rotation policy: only two of the 15 goals that the German midfielder was directly involved in (both of which were assists) were scored away from home.

With the pragmatic Chris Hughton at the helm for three-and-a-half years now, there should be no real tactical surprises from Brighton next season. What may change, of course, is the personnel. The arrival of Leon Balogun and Florin Andone will put pressure on the established centre-backs and strikers who are already at the club.

Members can read on to see our full analysis of Brighton’s underlying statistics in 2017/18, which will give Fantasy bosses a heads-up on which players to consider for the coming season.

I have a feeling Croatia will wilt against Russia. Those ignoring Russian may regret the decision in the next round.

      C) Doubtful - Chadli was better and scored a goal but Carrasco is more routined

Guess this is based on last season. Alonso and Moses best priced as expensive defenders otherwise they won’t attract many unless 5.5 or less

We should do this with players but tend to get swept up in it all. Eriksen did well over the season for example but plenty shed him at some point. It’s also ‘set and forget’

What are they smoking over at FPL towers?

At least £6.5m for a defender from a promoted team who has incorrectly classified as a midfielder.

One of the things I dislike most is when they price promoted players out. Id much rather they overprice the usual suspects like Kane, Aguero, Salah, Lukaku etc than newcomers like Sessegnon. 6.5 for any promoted player is too much.

Well if you wanna be patriotic do it. There’s no right answers

I prefer Trippier, but hey I’m biased. Trippier does have best chance of CS, progression and attacking returns however. I’d say that can all be stat based using bookie odds and the number of key chances Trippier has created.

There’s Lingard at 7.6 then everyone else that’s any good is expensive.

    Kane - Lukaku - Costa*
    Modic - Coutinho - Isco* - Quintero* - Claesson
    Granqvist - Godin - Lovren - Stones - Carvajal*
    Courtois - Mvogo

Costa, Isco, Carvajal > Griezmann, Willian, Pavard?

or are there more pressing issues

Baring in mind knockaert and ritchie were both 6.0m after championship seasons and with similar stats and flopped in the prem, sessegnon is really overpriced especially for someone that could play as lb/lwb

Kane before them all. We need a captain option for day two and I just don't trust Croatia enough or anyone else who plays on that day for that matter. There is, however, the argument for making Neymar the top target because Brazil should score more goals than England.

This look like a sound plan?

    Muslera Subasic
    Ramos* Carvajal* Rodriguez* Trippier Granqvist
    Coutinho Isco* Quintero* Bentancur Inui*
    Neymar Kane Lukaku

    Ramos, Carvajal, Rodriguez, Isco ->
    Modric, TSilva, Hernandez, Maguire (-4)

    1. Ask Yourself
      • 10 Years
      8 years, 12 days ago

You like modric? I’d take Willian/Rakitic and take then with Silva and Trippier without the -4

Already have Trippier. Maybe you are right in that it is best not to take the hit. I would like a sub though.

Oh yeah whoops sorry but yeah I get the bench appeal but I don’t rate any defensive options at this stage enough to justify a hit, probably except Trippier and maybe Maguire at a push

While I think Brazil will win cannot see CS so would perhaps not do Ramos to T Silva and save 4 points for now.

In order for Tiago to make up for the hit he needs the clean sheet and you only get 2 additional points (6-4 vs 0). Not sure if it's worth.

My front 3 are Kane Lukaku and Kane. Is it worth a -4 to get Neymar over Lukaku? Or wait until next round if Belgium knocked out?

They predicted Uruguay v Portugal and France v Argentina to end in a draw. They thought Spain, Croatia and England would win in 90 minutes. Got the rest right.

    Current team:
    Courtois Subasic
Pavard Trippier Miranda Carvajal (OUT) Akanji (OUT)
Modric Coutinho Isco (OUT) Quintero (OUT) Inui (OUT)
    Griezmann Hazard Kane

    A) Isco, Quintero, Carvajal, Hazard > Lingard Bentancur Granqvist Neymar (-4) = 12 players
    B) Carvajal Isco Hazard > Granqvist Golovin Neymar = 11 players
    C) Wildcard

I prefer to take Hazard out than use a FT on the bench. I have Courtois so it might be counterintuitive but my MLs are full of Neymar and I need to block him
