Brighton and Hove Albion‘s debut season in the Premier League was an all-round success, with the Seagulls never seriously involved in the relegation shake-up at any point during the campaign.

Their players were an inexpensive source of Fantasy points too, with five Brighton assets breaking the 100-point mark in Fantasy Premier League.

Glenn Murray and Pascal Gross proved to be excellent value in attack and midfield, while Mathew Ryan, Shane Duffy and Lewis Dunk were popular budget buys in defence.

However, Brighton’s away record was the worst in the Premier League in 2017/18, the Seagulls picking up just 11 points and scoring on only ten occasions on their travels last season.

The Seagulls’ form at the Amex Stadium was admirable, though, with only five teams losing on fewer occasions (four) than Chris Hughton’s side.

On paper, then, Brighton assets would have been best used in rotation. However, half of the Seagulls’ ten clean sheets came on the road, as did five of Murray’s 12 league goals.

Gross, at least, was a Fantasy asset who obliged a home/away rotation policy: only two of the 15 goals that the German midfielder was directly involved in (both of which were assists) were scored away from home.

With the pragmatic Chris Hughton at the helm for three-and-a-half years now, there should be no real tactical surprises from Brighton next season. What may change, of course, is the personnel. The arrival of Leon Balogun and Florin Andone will put pressure on the established centre-backs and strikers who are already at the club.

Members can read on to see our full analysis of Brighton’s underlying statistics in 2017/18, which will give Fantasy bosses a heads-up on which players to consider for the coming season.

So I guess World Cup conclusions for 4 years time.

Always captain your highest scoring player
Always bench your lowest scoring players
Make sure your players in the knockout stages play for teams who haven’t been eliminated yet.

Any other gems we can look back on?

They’ve done a Knockaert with Sessegnon and just completely ruined him as an option. £5.5m would have been plenty as a midfielder

Yeah, a Tom Ince too. The thing is they had little choice, most of us were predicting for him to be a £6.5m midfielder as soon as they became promoted. His stats are insane.

What are they smoking over at FPL towers?

At least £6.5m for a defender from a promoted team who has incorrectly classified as a midfielder.

One of the things I dislike most is when they price promoted players out. Id much rather they overprice the usual suspects like Kane, Aguero, Salah, Lukaku etc than newcomers like Sessegnon. 6.5 for any promoted player is too much.

Last year, FPL was launched five days after the first price announcement and the TV fixtures for August and September are due to be announced on Friday.

And yet, despite the opinions above, we all know he'll go on a run of 9-10 GWs where he's scoring consistently every week, and we're going to be complaining about the 'casuals' that own him and complaining that our deeply thought-out strategy of double Cardiff and Wolves (they all have promising stats, you see) mids is not matching him 😛

If you look at his xG for the last 4 seasons he has 0.49 goals per game last season, 0.46, 0.57, 0.39.

His price point is that of an elite level goal scorer, although he is young, so its possible that he still develops into one.

If you believe in the predictive power of xG, Lukaku and Firmino are the 2 more overpriced players in FPL.

I like this England team, but I do feel like a creativity is lacking.I would've preferred getting at least one of Shelvey or Wilshere, who can make that Hollywood pass.
That said, I'm sensing that Gareth got a trick up his sleeve. He's proven me wrong so many times over that past two years. I was so worried he'd be another yes man, a spineless servant of the FA. Glad to see a nice bloke like him having a decent WC! England for the win!

I completely agree. I think this is why Kane was dropping so deep against Colombia. I'd like to see Ali replaced by RLC. Perhaps that would add something a little different to the mix...

Southgate the best manager we have had in a long time, while Kane has been a revelation. Like others though am worried the lack of a playmaker will be our undoing at some point. Trouble is there were none to choose from.

Think with Alli we are just going to have to hope he plays himself into form as no disrespect to RLC he is not exactly a world beater

Agreed RLC isn't. We have no playmaker at all in the middle and Ali simply hasn't been on form for a while. I think the best way to go forward then without a creative player is speed and power. so that's players like RLC, Rashford and Sterling. It might get us past Sweden but I think it will be our undoing in the end.

It is a shame Lallana did not progress this season as he would have been ideal. Barkley is another who has failed to fulfill promise and it difficult to see where the next decent playmaker will come from

Probably the reason why Gareth's tactics seem to focus on set pieces. A burst into the opposition territory through direct play can.yield a) a goal scoring opportunity or b) a foul leading to a set piece.
Maybe he's putting team spirit and togetherness over talent? I wouldnt be surprised if Wilshere and Shlevey were the hotheads of the dressing room. Their obvious talents just didnt justify their inclusion as it mightve created the wrong type of atmosphere in the squad.

Yeah he may have found a way of working around their midfield deficiency, making the best of what he has to work with. Can see Croatia giving us plenty of problems if it pans out that way, that may be when we see what we are lacking, if only Modric was English

Alli and Lingard can be creative in their own right. Im aware of the Kane-Alli combo, that is a big plus in favor of Alli.
However, I was thinking of a more Deeplying Playmaker. Kind of like KdB for Belgium or Coutinho. Someone to dictate the play with an inspired long pass. That kind of player is what I feel missing.
Hopefully, Im wrong and that wont be an issue. But with Croatia potentially in SF, and Modric and Rakitic vs Henderson and Lingard. . . . Idk, just a bit worried.

        B) No idea
        C) Doubtful - Chadli was better and scored a goal but Carrasco is more routined

      Subasic Sommer(x)
      Meunier Trippier Granqvist Pavard Carvajal(x)
      Coutinho Modric Lingard Bentancur Isco(x)
      Kane Hazard Griezmann

Used my 3 FTs but would like to save WC for SF round. GTG or should I use WC?

      Thanks!

Surely Sessegnon is not going to be more than 6.5mil? Madness if he is.

Him and Neves will be in every casuals teams, the more expensive the better.

Guess this is based on last season. Alonso and Moses best priced as expensive defenders otherwise they won’t attract many unless 5.5 or less

Because Sessegnon plays left wing in a 433, unlike Moses and Alonso

I used that free fiver on the England game instead.

50/1 - Henderson & C Sanchez to get carded, Kane to score & England to qualify 🙂

Maguire Trippier Miranda Hernandez Granqvist Carvajal (out)
Coutinho Modric Quintero (out) Bentancur Isco (out)
        Kane Lukaku Griezmann

        0.1M left

Still got my 3 FT, not sure what to do. Replace Isco / Quintero / Carvajal -> Lingard / Meunier / Golovin (less convinced about that choice ...) or is there an alternative to Golovin that I just missed ?

I'm Belgian so it feels like not patriotic enough ... But yeah, it's about points not emotions ... Trippier in for Meunier ?

Well if you wanna be patriotic do it. There’s no right answers

I prefer Trippier, but hey I’m biased. Trippier does have best chance of CS, progression and attacking returns however. I’d say that can all be stat based using bookie odds and the number of key chances Trippier has created.

Going for 4 Englishmen, most chances to go to finals according to me (that hurts 😉 ). Hope you don't crash it, what about 7,1 over for midfielder ? Golovin or do you have any other good idea, putting a Russian player on the field really hurts me ...

The midfielders are so bad in this game.

There’s Lingard at 7.6 then everyone else that’s any good is expensive.

Maybe Loftus-cheek if Alli is injured. So keep an eye out for news ?
