Having won the Premier League in 2016/17, Chelsea’s performance statistics for their fifth-placed finish last season were unsurprisingly inferior to their title-winning campaign.

The Blues scored 23 fewer goals than they managed in the previous season and conceded five more.

Several of Antonio Conte’s players did, nevertheless, play a prominent part in many Fantasy managers’ 2017/18 campaign.

Cesar Azpilicueta and Marcos Alonso were the two highest-scoring defenders in Fantasy Premier League, with Chelsea keeping as many clean sheets (16) as they did in their championship-winning season.

Eden Hazard, without hitting the heights of the previous campaign, and Alvaro Morata both recorded double-digit goal tallies, meanwhile.

Uncertainty over Conte’s future as Chelsea manager continues to dog the club and indeed Fantasy managers’ abilities to assess the Blues’ squad for the coming season, but in Azpilicueta, Alonso and Hazard at least the west London club possess three players who remain at the forefront of our thoughts.

Fantasy Football Scout members can read on to see our full analysis of the five-times Premier League champions.

Why Zaha? He doesn't score a lot of goals and now he is classified as a forward so that means less points..?

“I don’t like to make excuses but I have to say I was surprised when I returned in pre-season and was moved into a deeper position having done so well the year before,” King told Norwegian newspaper newspaper VG.

“I’m not happy and my manager knows that. I have talked to the boss and told him that I don’t like this role, but what is said between us stays in that room. It’s not secret that I don’t like it. I’m a striker and that’s where I’m at my best.”

King said that he would have to consider his next step carefully, and while he wanted to do what is best for the team, he believes his record proves where he is most effective.

“People might say I’m selfish complaining when I play regularly but the numbers speak for themselves: I’m best as a striker. If you look at me as a player, I think nobody would say that I’m a No10.

“I have three years left on my contract at Bournemouth, but in football you never know. I just want to play in my best position. Why change something that worked so well, I don’t know, and maybe it’s been playing on my mind all season.”

I read the original interview in the Norwegian paper and theres some stuff thats missing here. What King also said in the interview was that he had talked to Howe about it and Howe told him he would have to play no.10 out of necessity because none of the other forwards in the team had the ability to do so, not because Howe didnt rate him as a striker.

So he will keep playing as a number 10 for now, and if they find someone else to do so, he will be in contention for the striker spot. No reason to believe he will be sold based on that interview. But also no real reason to get him into your team. Hes unlikely to play as a striker.

Cheers. I don't think I'm going to mess around with any cheap strikers, I feel safer with Firmino + Auba as my 2 starting strikers (currently on 3-5-2).

Arnie appeals so much more. Even with tougher fixtures.

I've never been a great fan of Zaha in fpl terms to be fair

Scores enough goals since moving up top. Palace were generally unlucky last season but looked good, as did Zaha. Tekkers drained some of their output. Baps counter the loss of goal points, but the loss of around 10 CS points could easily be offset by a good run of attacking points during decent fixtures.

Wait to see what price Mitrovic will be when he signs for Fulham, could be an ideal 3rd striker.

I'd rather have Arnie to be fair. I think Zaha is a great player but he doesn't return enough goals to be effective as a striker even at that price and on top of all that I would not be surprised if Palace buy another out and out striker before the window closes or Zaha gets poached to another team even.

It's not the most useful chip. Use it if you think your keepers will do well. You can leave it until the final round when you'll have 5 transfers, but you'll probably rather want to focus on quality rather than quantity. Having said that, there could be cheap(ish) enablers for the third place play-off game.

Hold off on Auba. He could be LW as opposed to the striker. He also has 2 tough opening fixtures. Mkhi also at risk under new management - time will tell.

      Pogba World Cup hangover.

    433 formation.

well im hoping to change Bailly to Sandro if the deal gets done... utd defensive cover is a good idea regardless of who you support.

Sanchez has had the summer off and Lukaku probly wont play the first few weeks so hoping he plays upfront.

As for Salah he just eats up a lot of funds for me... iv gone for Firmino Robertson Aguero Silva and Ederson so I dont think I have the utd tinted glasses on.

        Cheers for the feedback though!

Fair. I just think let's say they come back staggered over first 2/3 weeks. I'd want 2/3 weeks of form to indicate they worth pressing the button for. So team probably needs to be set up for 6 weeks (obvs have transfers to mess about with anyway).

You will only make 0.3 imo. TV doesn't ride and fall like it did years ago. Most likely place to make profit from transfers, is during international break, most good players will hold gw1 transfer to have 2 the week after, some will even take a hit for 3 transfers and save wc til later.

Tomkins only has a bad fixture in Wk 2, so maybe just play him and use Peltier in the second week. Palace should be pretty solid this yeah, as far as we know. You can then use Cedric's slot either as back up (downgrade to another 4.0?) or in rotation with someone else or upgrade to an ever-present for your XI

        1. stat
          8 years, 7 days ago

          My team at the moment:

          Gomes* - Guaita
          Alonso - Coleman - Cedric - Tomkins - Peltier
          Salah - Walcott - Ramsey - D. Silva - Deulofeu
          Auba - Firmino - Quaner

I think Cedric is worth keeping because he might play as a wingback and he carries some attacking threat in terms of assists.

          * Will get Foster if he comes in at 4.5. If not I'll look for another GK rotation.

      2. stat
        8 years, 7 days ago

I don't know that much about Peltier apart from the fact that he played as Cardiff's main RB last season - perhaps things could change with Richards back.

But assuming Peltier is nailed on, here are the fixtures of Cedric and Tomkins in the GWs I said I'd play him in:
GW 2: Cedric vs eve / Tomkins vs LIV (Probably not worth it)
GW 7: Cedric vs wol / Tomkins vs bou (Peltier vs BUR is potentially 4 days before Burnley play in the EL)
GW 9: Cedric vs bou / Tomkins vs eve (Neither looks like a CS)

I had him in my team for the first 5 GWs last season. He somehow managed to miss about 5192949129412 open goals and not give me anything whatsoever apart from disappointment and appearance points. Needless to say, I was 1.1M OR after 5 GWs, partly because I kept losing points by thinking Dann would score the next GW.

Having said all that, do you think he's a better pick than Tomkins?

        • Fantasy Football Scout Member

I do. I've just created a stat table for cheap Defenders and his goal threat is head and shoulders above everyone else in the same price bracket.

If Dann is back in favour during preseason, I'm ditching PVA for him.

£4.5m would be a crazy price for him.

        1. stat
          8 years, 7 days ago

Cheers for the table. Don't you think Tomkins is more nailed on though?
Also why not ditch PVA for Tomkins? I think Tomkins at 4.5 is better value than PvA at 5.5

See above. Tomkins only got in the team when Hodgson ran out of centre halves through injury.

The preseason games should reveal who he fancies in defence.

I believe he started Wan-Bissaka in the last 7 games or so of the season. It could even be him that gets the nod at £4m.

            1. stat
              8 years, 6 days ago

Yeah lets see what happens in their friendlies. If they go with 4 at the back then I'm guessing it will be one of Tomkins/Dann paired with Sakho. Three at the back and then Dann and Tomkins both get in I guess.

Wan-Bissaka is one I have an eye on, a lot of Palace fans seem to prefer him to Ward (who just signed a new 3 yr deal). Ward isn't on FPL yet for some reason.
