Huddersfield Town made a mockery of the doom-mongering pre-season predictions to avoid relegation in their debut Premier League campaign.

The Terriers, who were odds-on with the bookmakers to make an instant return to the Championship before a ball was kicked, only fell into the drop zone once in the entire season and finished four points ahead of 18th-placed Swansea City.

Town’s squad was among the cheapest in Fantasy Premier League last season, with not a single player having a starting price of more than £6.0m. The same is true for the coming campaign, with striker Steve Mounie the most expensive asset in David Wagner’s squad.

Jonas Lossl, Christopher Schindler and Mathias ‘Zanka’ Jorgensen broke the 100-point barrier in FPL last season and all three have been priced up at £4.5m again this time after their value-for-money performances in 2017/18. Midfielder Aaron Mooy, Town’s highest-scoring outfield player in FPL last season, is also a non-mover at £5.5m.

Only the sides who finished in the top seven kept more clean sheets than Huddersfield (ten) last season, though the Terriers’ concerning form in the second half of 2017/18 – in which they won just three of their final 20 matches and recorded as many shut-outs – is worth noting to Fantasy managers ahead of the coming season.

In-depth data on Huddersfield’s season is available in the Members’ Area, while Fantasy Football Scout members can also read our detailed analysis of the salient statistics in the article below.

Bottomed. How's this as a first attempt:

    Foster - Boruc
    Robertson - Coleman - Bailly (if nailed) - Cedric - Wan-Bissaka
    Salah - Mkhi - Mahrez - Jota - Cairney
    Aguero - Zaha - Tosun

I've been thinking a little and I've thought of a few ones to consider from each side:

Arsenal- Ramsey- when he played last season he often got a lot of points and he looks nailed as Emery likes him a lot

Bournemouth- Stanislas- although he's injured he should be fit for the start of the season and is nailed when fit. Delivers high amount of points when fit

Brighton- Izquerdo- Has now adapted to the premier league and could be Brightons star player this season

Burnley- Wood- had one of the best goals-to-game ratio last season and has very positive fixtures

Cardiff- Paterson- hefty price tag but he was Cardiff's top scorer last season despite only starting half of the season due to injury

Chelsea- Morata- most probably will start the first few games with Giroud playing in the WC final. He also started last season well

Crystal Palace- Milivojevic- Surprisingly was Palace's top scorer last season and has a positive set of opening fixtures

Everton- Tosun: Had a good goals-to-game ratio last season and could hit the ground running with Everton's good early run of games

Fulham- Cairney- Only 5 mil and could play a more advanced role with the signing of Seri confirmed

Huddersfield- Mounie- started last season strongly and had a decent goals to game ratio last season

Leicester- Gray- most likely to replace Mahrez's spot on the wing, and with a nice price tag, he could be well worth considering

Liverpool- TAA- looks nailed and has a very generous price tag which could really be worth it- also an attacking threat. Decent fixtures too

Man City- Mendy- nailed on this season after being injured last season. Could provide many assists like he did at Monaco

Man United- Lingard- Mourinho likes him a lot and he could progress a lot last season after a good WC

Newcastle- Kenedy- Solid option- nailed and could be involved in a lot of Newcastles goals

Southampton- Cedric- with nice set of opening fixtures, he could get a few clean sheets with decent attacking threat. Only 4.5m too

Spurs- Being a spurs fan, I would say Alli: got a lot to prove this season and will hope to repeat 16/17s high total

Watford- Richarlison- started last season well and has now adapted to the Prem. If he repeats the start of last season he would be a very worthy option

West Ham- Arny- most probably will increase last years success with better attacking options around him this season

Wolves- Douglas- massive attacking threat. Takes set pieces and got joint most assists in the Championship last season!

    Hope this helps

Agree with most of those. Also literally the first time I have seen Dele Alli’s Name mentioned in an FPL (not World Cup) context on here.

He is REALLY going under the FFS community radar & has serious pedigree from 2 seasons ago - very good shout

Some inconsistencies, for example, you've factored in Giroud being at the World Cup, but not the likes of TAA, Mendy and Alli. Have an up-vote for the effort, research and one or two hidden gems.

I don't understand. Are we picking one from each team? This is a "cover" post.... :/ You wouldn't have mentioned Mounie unless I pointed out you had no Huddersfield earlier.

Each of our picks require comparison to other players in that position and price, so "I would say Alli [of the Spurs options] doesn't cut it as justification for picking him, sorry. I''m sorry to be a curmudgeon, but I think this clouds our vision rather than making things clear. Blinkers rather than tinkerers 😉

      Some good points but a few i'm not so sure about;

Alli was useless last season and throughout the World cup.

      Kennedy has terrible early fixtures.

      TAA could rotate with Clyne.

Gone incredibly heavy upfront but have still maintained 6 big hitters(for their position). How does it look?

    Foster

    Smalling Cedric Daniels

    Salah Walcott Deulofeu Cairney

    Aguero Aubameyang Firmino

    Ederson S.Ward Masuaku Bednarek

It's a tough one. He's easily a great player, but he's not as marketable as many other less talented players. People are more likely to buy shirts with the name Salah, Hazard, Grealish on etc than they are Kante, and that all adds to their value.

      Williams is absolutely terrible.

I doubt Silva will play him.

I think they’ll sign at least one new CB before the season starts.

No. Trying to think about what to write next and just going to say it again. No.

He's totally gone as a Premiership footballer. We could be bringing in a new CB anyway but, if we don't, there might be a bit of last-minute money on Holgate.

Yes. Firmino is a nice 2nd option but it just ruins the rest of it to make that happen. Has to be a sacrifice somewhere I guess.

Or are you refusing to acknowledge what happened last season and going with Fab?

Had DDG from GW2 last year for the whole season - was great up to Christmas, and I mean GREAT. but he was surprisingly frustrating to own in the last half/third of the season, I don’t have the stats but his points must have dropped off a cliff after Christmas.

      I’m avoiding & going with a 4.5

Of all the positions goalkeeper is the easiest to find a value pick. Pope & Dubravka were just below de Gea for PPG at the £4.5m mark last season, expecting another one or two to do similar this season.

Till one of the 4.5s proves his worth, it seems sensible to start the season with a stronger gk.

          Maybe.

GKs all get a fairly similar amount of saves/bonus, you are 'almost' paying exclusively for clean sheets and maybe added security of starts.
I would rather invest in a premium defender for the same team who has the added advantage of goal/assist potential and pick a goalkeeper from a lesser team.

Unless you are heavy in some kind of 4-4-2 where everyone is from a top 6 team then i'd be looking to make that swap.

    Walcott or Siggy folks?
    Is Coleman worth 5.5m?
    Salah or not?
    Aguero or Jesus?
    Any budget 4.5m (5th mid)
Who will Zaha end up playing for?
Will Milo be as effective without zaha?
De Gea or Pickford? Is heaton/pope an option?
Also Young has to be a serious contender at the back now that he plays in midfield!

I don’t like having value tied up on the bench, especially when 9/10 I deploy an early wildcard.

Defence I want to start with is Coleman, Robbo, Kiko, 4.0, 4.0

You only really need one of them at any given time, if at all.

People with Salah AND Firmino currently in their teams:

Do you not think having another Liverpool player that’s 9.5m is maybe not worth the money if you will likely never captain him as long as Salah is fit?

Normally more “premium” players are picked due to their captaincy potential.

Im genuinely curious how you feel about this....

    1. Maximus Bonimus Pointimus
      • 16 Years

No I think Firmino is in the sweet spot of being able to fire & forget & let him chip in with goals & assists while Salah brings home the big scores.

Liverpool have great fixtures, have strengthened their team over the summer and could score a bucketload of goals.

Will you actually own another other 9.5 or below who you would captain whilst you have Salah? The main competition has to be Aguero and Aubameyang at 11.0, right? Perhaps Laca at 9,5 if he's on pens and Salah has a "tough" fixture. Perhaps Mahrez if he's stunning in the opening weeks. But Firmino isn't much of a risk, and I wouldn't be averse to vice captaining him as some would be due to "potential of the match to be postponed". Only risk is GW1, though most here seem to think he's likely to start 🙂

      1. OldBenKenobi
        • 9 Years

Yeah that my plan. Salah captain most week if his form is similar to last season and when Liverpool have a tougher fixture I’ll captain Aguero/Auba etc. Maybe I see Firmino as expensive/premium and other not so much.

One very glaring (in my opinion) change to consider is Salah. You will be up sheet creek without a paddle if he scores v West Ham. Would you back against him scoring?

It you could easily get him by doing Alexis (Mourinho will poison his returns) and Kun for Salah & maybe Zaha/Arnie. Then you’ll have some money ITB & look at KDB p/Sané and maybe Ederson or Mendy as your city weapons of choice.
