Great Expectations

Mendy creativity could make him essential Man City defender

Benjamin Mendy (£6.0m) has the potential to be the go-to Manchester City defensive option in 2018/19 after his comeback from long-term injury.

The Frenchman was ruled out for most of last season after rupturing the anterior cruciate ligament in his knee in Gameweek 6, but is fit and ready to go for the new campaign, at a cheaper price than colleagues Nicolas Otamendi (£6.5m) and Kyle Walker (£6.5m).

We’ve gone over the data to find out whether Fantasy Premier League managers can expect to see the Mendy who registered eight assists in 25 league matches and seven Champions League appearances prior to signing for Man City.

CREATIVE GENIUS

Mendy’s start to the 2017/18 demonstrated his huge creative potential. In the first five Gameweeks of last season, before his Gameweek 6 injury, only Premier League four defenders created more chances than the Frenchman, all of them with more starts under their belt in that period. The Frenchman fashioned seven opportunities in 270 minutes, Jose Holebas (£4.5m) eight in 360, Aaron Cresswell (£5.5m) nine in 369, Trent Alexander-Arnold (£5.0m) nine in 269 and Ben Davies (£6.0m) 13 in 350.

In fact, only three Man City players created more than Mendy, David Silva (£8.5m) with 17 chances in five starts, Kevin De Bruyne (£10.0m) with 15 in five and Sergio Aguero (£11.0) with 12 in four. And despite making just seven appearances in the entire campaign, just De Bruyne and Leroy Sané (£9.5m) registered more successful crosses from open play than Mendy’s eight, with 14 and nine respectively.

Adding a further three appearances after a Gameweek 34 return, Mendy created nine chances and had five shots on goal in 361 minutes across the season as a whole. That averaged out at a key pass every 40.1 minutes, the next best in the City defence was Walker with one every 92.9. Furthermore, his shot every 72.2 minutes was the second-best in the City defence, with Danilo’s (£5.5m) 70.6 coming out on top.

DEFENSIVE RETURNS

On top of Mendy’s impressive creative potential is his ability to keep a healthy number of clean sheets. No side conceded fewer goals than Man City’s 27 last season and only Manchester United recorded more clean sheets, their total of 19 just one better than the Citizens’ 18.

Pep Guardiola’s champions sit top of our season ticker for defence in the opening six Gameweeks so shutouts should be expected. After a tricky trip to Arsenal in Gameweek 1, Huddersfield, Newcastle and Fulham are all set to visit the Etihad Stadium with trips to Wolves and Cardiff in Gameweeks 3 and 6 respectively.

ON THE MENDY

Mendy will be ahead in his pre-season development compared to everybody else. Even though he only registered 40 minutes in Russia, the training he did there with France was effectively his pre-season and because he missed so much time with the injury, his body and mind should be in a position to head back to training with his club and then competitive action without feeling burned out.

ROTATION FREE (FOR NOW)

Mendy was brought to Man City last season to be the first-choice left-back and the Frenchman looks set to make that position his own, especially in the early weeks of 2018/19. The late returns to training of Danilo and Fabian Delph (£5.5m) means that the only cover for the left of defence will be Oleksandr Zinchenko (£5.0m), who may not be at the club anymore by Gameweek 1 with transfer reports linking him elsewhere. Those factors should ensure very little rotation on Mendy’s part to begin with, as he is already with the main training group in the USA.

An early wildcard has often been a good way to sort team problems, jump on bandwagons, and catch price rises. However, with the early transfer window deadline teams might be more settled than they were in previous seasons. Does this mean you're more confident saving your wildcard?

At the same time, it's been a short pre-season for many players with the World Cup and there are lots of new managers in the PL. Add to that Arsenal's fixtures from GW3, and maybe an early wildcard still does make sense.

I'm planning a team for up until the international break, going for early points. If my choices are flying then I'll save it, but I'm fine using it early and hopefully I've had a good start as I'm looking short term.

Has your strategy changed this year? When are you planning to use your wildcard?

I never have a plan when to use but I always end up using it during first int break to catch bandwagons, ditch deadwoods etc.

This year probably won't be any different

You can't plan to use your wildcard because there are too many unforeseen circumstances that get in the way.
Play it when the time feels right.

I will try to get to the break after GW8. Always the aspiration and only achieved it once in about 15 seasons! The first break after GW4 will be very tempting.

I've tried to optimise for a GW12 wildcard, but I can see myself playing it earlier (possible GW8) if there are too many surprises with lineups and form.

No real need to wildcard in the international break imo. Those times are over!

I hope to use it fairly late. It doesn't take long to catch up with the WC template with FTs, since the template changes everyweek, early WCers can be chasing the same player as you the following week, to chasing players they shouldn't have sold.

I'll change my mind if necessary.

2nd international break for me. Team will be structured for first 8 gameweeks as a number of fixtures turn at this point and gives me plenty of time to asses formations and preferences after players return from the world cup.

Strongly suspect I will wildcard around GW3/4 but hoping my punty team manages to hit the ground running. Gambling by playing attacking Arsenal players from the off.

I'm looking at between GW5-8 if things aren't going to plan. I think quite a few will use it early this year once the world cup stars start coming back.

After GW8. Hopefully by then teams will have settled down after the world cup, and we have an idea of the shape of the season and the price performance lanscape that exists. Theres an international break around then too which gives chance to think.

Theres also a fixture swing around then too, I'll be wanting to jump off palace, everton and bournemouth assets and jump on west ham. Its also a good time to get onto huddersfield, leicester, newcastle and brighton.

Same, maybe GW5 but hopefully not needed. I also plan to take more hits this season, especially at the start so that might negate the need for an early wildcard.

So called dead end strategy worked fine for me last spring, so I will at least try to use it again and wc after gw8. WC players coming back for gw2-3 means that casuals wildcarding early have no info enough during first break. They will be in trouble after 2nd when fixtures change for CP for example. With good fixtures and good bench I hope to manage with mini wc:s after gw2 and gw4 if necessary and not knee jerk.

Going to leave myself in a position where Im not forced to use it early. Means picking mostly fairly nailed players from the start as opposed to the likes of Lamela, world cup players etc. Dont want to have planned transfers like Auba in for GW3 so I think I'll just get him from the start.

Probably in the second international break.
May even hold on to it longer if I don't see the need for multiple changes then.

Will try to resist the temptation to play it earlier. Played it GW5 last season and GW2 the year before, and regretted it both times.

Ideally during the 2nd International break (post GW8).

I dont ‘plan’ when to use my wildcard and throw it away. It’s a precious chip and I use it when my team needs it. I didn’t use it until GW10 last season because my team did great until then.

People make it seem like the WC has made a huge difference this season but there are plenty of good nailed players that are either already back from the WC or didn’t participate in it.

Arsenal’s fixtures from GW3 are hardly that great. They’ve got 2 away games until GW5 where they were trash last season. Looks pretty good from GW6 though.

      It's an interesting paradox.

      Plan an early WC.
Invest heavily in prime fixture players for the first 3-4 gameweeks, hoping they smash it.
But then on the other hand if they do well, perhaps hold on to it for a few more weeks...?!

I'm going in without a WC plan at the moment. I decided to play it GW8 last season as despite weathering an injury storm, I felt good about the players I had, and took the opportunity to change things up with Chelsea and City assets once the fixtures were favourable and players had established themselves in their roles (e.g. Sterling)

I'm not sure I can genuinely gain an advantage by playing mine early - I'll watch carefully and hopefully things will become clearer as players return and squads begin evolve accordingly.

      really depends on the start.
Being able to delay until GW14/15 last year paid off well for me last year.
Never really like knee-jerking in 1st international break. Teams and players need time to settle. Making wholesale changes based on 3 games can be rash

Fair enough. Martial is someone I’m looking at, but the uncertainty over his future and his apparent desperation to leave is putting me off a bit. He is tremendous value though. I’ve just got a feeling about Lamela. I’d think he is nailed until Son comes back from the Asian Games, presuming we don’t sign another winger.

Yes, Son will play against Newcastle, before going off to the games. With Alli and Kane coming back late from the WC, I’d think it’s almost certain Lamela will start against Newcastle with Son, and continue to play until Son comes back (at this point the WC boys will be fit and ready).

It just seems to me there are more choices and the breakout players will come out of this bracket. With so many choices it’s also easy to jump onto someone with form and fixtures.

Currently on Martial (holding a place for Pogba), Mkhi, Siggy and Jota. Maddison was dropped for Siggy. I just need to see how he gels with his new team before I commit. Hopeful i’ll have him in my team early on, currently very low ownership so great differential.

Wtf is going on at man united??? As a united fan i can honestly say i cant see united even get top four this season, no way are we competing with city, chelsea will be a different animal this year as will arsenal, i act expect aresnal to do really well this year, then theres them scumbags liverpool painsme to say but whats being done at loverpool should be getting done at united, klopps a great manger and iv said from day 1 united slept in by not doing there best to get him, mourinho as to go end off, 2 signings so far and no harm dalot is even a signing for now, i do thank fred will be good, but 2 signings at this stage aint good enough, then to let martial go is he mad, thats guna come back to hunt him even worse than what salah and de bruyne did.

    Sergio and Gabriel

A lot of people seem to be picking Agüero on here in their initial selections so I thought I would look at the danger Gabriel Jesus poses to his start. Here’s the data from last season in the premier league:

Match 1 Brighton (a) Agüero starts plays 83’ / Jesus starts plays 78’
    Match 2 Everton (h) A Agüero starts plays 90’ / Jesus starts plays 45’
Match 3 Bournemouth (a) Agüero benched comes on for 24’ / Jesus starts plays 82’
Match 4 Liverpool (h) Agüero starts plays 90’ / Jesus starts plays 57’
Match 5 Watford (a) Agüero starts plays 90’ / Jesus starts plays 65’
Match 6 Crystal Palace (h) Agüero starts plays 90’ / Jesus unused substitute
    (Mendy injured) (Agüero’s taxi-ride)
Match 7 Chelsea (a) Agüero injured / Jesus starts plays 90’
Match 8 Stoke (h) Agüero unused substitute / Jesus starts plays 63’
Match 9 Burnley (h) Agüero starts plays 76’ / Jesus benched comes on for 14’
Match 10 West Brom (a) Agüero unused substitute / Jesus starts plays 82’
Match 11 Arsenal (h) Agüero starts plays 62’ / Jesus benched comes on for 28’
Match 12 Leicester (a) Agüero unused substitute / Jesus starts plays 90’
Match 13 Huddersfield (a) Agüero starts plays 86’/ Jesus benched comes on for 10’
Match 14 Southampton (h) Agüero starts plays 90’/ Jesus starts plays 74’
Match 15 West Ham (h) Agüero starts plays 85’ / Jesus benched comes on for 45’
Match 16 Man United (a) Agüero unused substitute / Jesus starts plays 59’
Match 17 Swansea (a) Agüero starts plays 90’ / Jesus unused substitute
Match 18 Spurs (h) Agüero starts plays 58’ / Jesus benched comes on for 32’
Match 19 Bournemouth (h) Agüero starts plays 90’ / Jesus unused substitute
Match 20 Newcastle (a) Agüero starts plays 77’ / Jesus benched comes on for 79’
Match 21 Crystal Palace (a) Agüero benched comes on for 67’ / Jesus starts plays 23’
    (Jesus injured)
Match 22 Watford (h) Agüero starts plays 90’ / Jesus injured
Match 23 Liverpool (a) Agüero starts plays 90’ / Jesus injured
Match 24 Newcastle (h) Agüero starts plays 90’ / Jesus injured
Match 25 West Brom (h) Agüero starts plays 90’ / Jesus injured
Match 26 Burnley (h) Agüero starts plays 90’ / Jesus injured
Match 27 Leicester (h) Agüero starts plays 90’ / Jesus injured
Match 28 Arsenal (a) Agüero starts plays 82’ / Jesus injured
Match 29 Chelsea (h) Agüero starts plays 85’ / Jesus benched comes on for 5’
Match 30 Stoke (a) Agüero not in squad / Jesus starts plays 90’
Match 31 Everton (a) Agüero not in squad / Jesus plays 90’
Match 32 Man United (h) Agüero benched comes on for 14’ / Jesus benched comes on for 18’
    (Aguero injured)
Match 33 Spurs (a) Agüero injured / Jesus starts plays 76’
Match 34 Swansea (h) Agüero injured / Jesus starts plays 90’
Match 35 West Ham (a) Agüero injured / Jesus starts plays 80’
Match 36 Huddersfield (h) Agüero injured / Jesus starts plays 90’
Match 37 Agüero injured / Jesus starts plays 83’
Match 38 Agüero injured / Jesus benched comes on for 31’

NB- Comes on for means ‘played that number of minutes in the game’

There were 22/38 gameweeks last season where they were both in the squad and available for selection. In those gameweeks: Aguero started 15/22 games, Jesus started 11/22 games. They started together in just 5 out of the 22 games that they were both fit. After GW 14 they did not start together again for the rest of the season which would seem to indicate that after that game Pep decided it was one or t’other.

I think the interesting period where this data is concerned is the period from GW9 to GW21 which was where Pep seemed to have settled on playing one striker (bar his GW14 dalliance with 2 up top). In this period they were both fully fit and Pep could pick whoever he wanted. The sequence of starts in this period is:
Agüero, Jesus, Agüero, Jesus, Agüero, both, Agüero, Jesus, Agüero, Agüero, Agüero, Agüero, Jesus
The longest starting streak in this was Agüero’s 4 games in a row GW 17-20.

So where does this leave us at the start of the season?

Agüero got knocked out at the R16 stage of the world cup with Argentina on 30/06/2018 having played 178 minutes
Jesus got knocked out at the quarter final stage with Brazil on 06/07/2018 having played 407 minutes.

Based on this I would expect Agüero to start GW1 against Arsenal but I would not be surprised if Jesus was resurrected for the second or third GW and started at the expense of Agüero. If you think City will score enough goals in the period that Agüero is on the pitch to cover him missing either a part of a game or a whole game then go ahead and pick the mercurial Argentine. Me personally I am going to go for Aubameyang, who may not have the easiest fixtures to start with, or play for the best team, but should start and is quite capable of getting a few goals as he showed in the tail end of last season.

    Thanks for reading.

The Hudd game is key really. Like you said if you can get that out of Aguero its probably worth having him. Otherwise i'd probably just give Aubameyang the edge.

      +1

I really like Aguero as a player and he can be FPL gold but for 11 million you need a striker who always starts. The pain when you see Jesus scoring two goals versus Huddersfield with Aguero only playing the last 10 minutes.

Isn't this forgetting that Pep said he can play Jesus and Aguero together because of Mendy? Seemed to be his preferred choice too when he was fit.

There's a lot of weight given to this comment and I'm not necessarily sure that it merits it. Mendy was crocked in GW6 last season and whilst City played quite well in the first 6 GWs I think their best work was done after that point when they were playing 4-3-3. The wing-back system is there if he wants to mix it up but I think you'll see them play the majority of games with 2 wingers. If not why buy Mahrez?

Then you think Mendy will rarely start?
Or LB, with Sané in front of him on the left flank? I don't think that would allow Mendy to fulfil his FPL potential; except if Sané cuts inside much more often that last season

With an attacking left back (Mendy in this case) I can see Jesus playing more games alongside Aguero (Pep said he needed an attacking overlapping left back to provide width to play Jesus and Kun together), at the expense of Sane.

Basically any attacker except for KdB is a rotation nightmare
        - Jesus/ Sane
        - Jesus/Kun
        - Sterling/Mahrez
        - The other mids
        - The wide men changing flanks

well except you dont have said City starting attacker if you have Kun the first week he is benched. then you switch to Jesus and it's Kun who starts again... fcked all over

...start with Kun and then once Jesus/KdB is back see how Pep's team takes form and where Mahrez/Sane/Dilva fits in.

But yeah it's tough. If you look at Kun/Jesus/Firmino/Auba there is no clear winner in the stats area. Player with best min/goal and best min/chance has worst shot accuracy.

Player with highest conversion rate and shot accuracy has worst min/chance.

              😕

I'm a Chelsea fan and I'm a little worried about the Arsenal game. Kante might not be ready and we're most likely shifting back to 4atb for this season. As much as I love Alonso I'm not sure he's got the defensive chops to play LB and also I'm not sure I would want Dave shifting over to RB rather than being in the centre which is what looks like may happen. Basically what I'm saying is that I think there will be goals in that game.

All that gameweek stuff seems a bit unnecessary?

You could have said looking at thier apperances last season?

It probably would not have got the hulk?
To get the hulk bamboozling with a list of stats and or percentages is to paraphrase a ffs term 'essential'?

Anyway after I skipped the unnecessary bit in the post above, to the part the point was actually made.
      It is a good point,
But for me it is simple transfer aguero out for another strikerthe first time he is benched I already have Aubameyang.
      Simple?
So a chelsea striker could fit in nicely for example.

Appearances can be misleading. Especially in this case. In a lot of the games where one started and the other didn't, then invariably there would be an appearance as as a substitute. I can't speak for everyone else but I would want to know the duration of these sub appearances. Also part of the crux of my analysis is the patterns of if and when they are benched. I think the most illuminating bit of the post personally is:

'I think the interesting period where this data is concerned is the period from GW9 to GW21 which was where Pep seemed to have settled on playing one striker (bar his GW14 dalliance with 2 up top).

which benefits from having the raw data before.

Not going to lie I was looking for a hulk, but I'm enjoying doing this writing and research at the moment and ultimately its not up to me whether it turns green or not...

            Kun played last year:

            ManU 14 min
            Cpal 67min
            Spurs 58 min
            Ars 62 min
            Bourne 24min
4 on bench = no minutes

Fair play putting the effort in and that.
But I personally find the stats and things a bit overkill.
A little here and there is fine and then watch the player playing etc.
I find myself getting a bit lost in stats when there is too much.
Part of the reason I am not a member of FFS. I tried it one year and it ruined my enjoyment of the game. I would like if there was a members lite version with less figures and spreadsheets it hurts my eyes!

I think the week-by-week "raw" data are essential. I have much less time for posters who force you to take their conclusions and calcuculations for granted. Mistakes happen all the time, and no one is an authority here. Mike Harbrew has put the work in to extracting this information, so I'd prefer for him to present it rather than claculate averages and give his own interpretation. It would be hard to criticise him without the knowing the context of each data point (as I'm about to do!).

For me, the analysis dedn't actually go deep enough. There are too many factors uncontrolled for the conclusion to be valid in my opinion. The Mendy factor, for instance (cue an Eden Wizard reply about Jesus and Aguero playing together), is just one in a really complex puzzle, for which the rules could change on a Pep whim in the new season. Dismissing factors, such as the Mendy injury, based on City playing well without him just doesn't satisfy me, to be honest.

Much appreciate the work though, Mike. I'll be revisiting this HT for the gameweek playing time facts whenever I need it, from now till a few gameweeks into the season, no doubt.

And just to add: if you don't like the week-by-week bit, it sounds like it was pretty easy to scroll past it, so I don't see why it should be excluded just to save you finger-energy, Captain Choice 😉

        I very much disagree!

Seeing someone's opinion is useful, but seeing them show why it's their opinion is when this site is at it's best. He's done the work of digging out the stats, and shown us his work which has value.

It's obviously simple to transfer out Aguero if he's benched, but as the above warns (in a way) is that you might be doing a very early transfer.

For what it's worth I can't decide if I want him or not :/

Provided that things are still the same as last year, I'm not concerned about Aguero's minutes - he was the clear first choice when both he and Jesus were fit, even when Pep was playing only one striker. The match vs. Stoke that Aguero was an unused substitute is an aberration since he was still recovering from the car accident - he just had a quicker recovery than was expected and was brought back into training.

The main takeaway for me, which I knew before the breakdown but the stats and history help to ground it in reality, is that you're never sure how much or if at all aguero plays.
Ability to rack up points has never been in doubt, his frequency for injury used to put a bit of a dampener on him as an option but now he can be fully fit and not even play, for his price it's a big gamble.
Fortune favours the brave, but I think I'm not that brave / lucky 🙂

I will also go for Auba, and not for Aguero because I also think he might very well get benched in GW2 or 3.

This being said, your research above also makes clear that when Mendy was fit at the start of the season, Pep seemed determined to start both Kun and Jesus (and benched Sané).

Owning Aguero or not is defo gonna be a difference maker in the first few GWs. Remains to be seen if it's the owners or non-owners who will suffer the most... that's unpredictable

Im considering avoiding all 11m options. While I don't really love Salah at 13m I feel that starting with him is the better option then tearing a team apart trying to get him in if he smashes it early doors. The fact that I will be permanently captaining him makes the 11m forwards a lot less appealing. The above worries outlined about Kun throw more water on the fire and the fact I think Laca could close to match Abu is also not helping the case.
Food for thought and I would love to hear what others think about this

Auba, Kun and Wood is my likely starting front three. Two big hitters with 3rd striker a cheaper punt with good fixtures.

Also in the Auba could easily score against City and Che as they don't have their defenses sorted yet.

I think there’s one assumption that’s not being questioned here.

That is that City, with virtually no preseason, probably without KDB (or at least an undercooked version) will hit the ground running.
Meanwhile Huddersfield stroll across to the Etihad and lie down to have their tummies tickled.

FYI the corresponding fixture last year was nil-nil.

I wouldn’t be surprised at all to see City start very slowly, particularly if their key player (who complained about fatigue from January on) is introduced gently.

Your analysis suggests that of the 1960 minutes Aguero played, he was available for all bar 8 due to injury, with an additional 3 games around his periods of injury, when he might have not been available.

That means he played 73% to 80% of the minutes where he was available. Given his underlying stats ate strong over multiple seasons, I don't think that's too bad for his price.

City got to QF of Champs League and wrapped up the title early, so his minutes would have been managed (well, depending on his injury status). And the car crash wasn't a predictable event.

Let’s face it. Pep actively chose to play two strikers when he had Mendy, and even he didn’t know a better route than rotation with being forced to play Sane!

No reason to think both his world class strikers won’t play but thanks and interesting conclusions!

      1. Mikeharbrw

The Mendy thing is obviously an issue, I wouldn't have highlighted when he got injured otherwise.

        What I would highlight is:
Pep had the proceeding 32 gameweeks watching his team playing scintillating football playing a 4-3-3. Even when Mendy played at the end of the season he didn't revert to 3atb.

I think a massive thing that is being overlooked- Walker most likely won't start GW1 / maybe 2/3 either . Part of the reason Pep wanted to play wingbacks early doors is that he had Mendy AND Walker that would make it work. He clearly doesn't rate Danilo that much and certainly not enough to build the team around a wingback formation. You might see 3atb with Mendy wingback and 2 up top later on in the season but O would be amazed if he does it in the opening gameweeks.

well some fixtures are just terrible

        for example:
gw1 - Maddison had (mun) - i can bench him
gw2 - PVA plays liverpool - unlikely for CS, maybe i'll miss an assist but who knows
        and so it goes.

IMO Richarlison needs to prove himself after a disappointing 2nd half of the season last year.
Jota looks great, but a risk as don't know how will perform in the PL. At 6.5m, too expensive for me to start but will be monitoring.
Lamela "could" be a great alternative given his pre-season hat-trick, Ali on holiday and Son off to Asian games, but Moura could cut into those minutes if both dont start.
Will watch Pedro too, depending on Sarri-ball

Shaw might be a risky way into the United team...don't know if you saw him get nutmegged and Mourinho's reaction during the friendly the other night - pure loathing.

I've had Austin in a few of my teams before and his form is often patchy.

I'm also unsure on Keita/Fabinho...I know Keita has more points potential but Fabinho on penalties in a team with a lot of dribblers, and he's cheaper...

Who do you think may start instead of Shaw for the first few weeks? I thought Dalot was coming back from injury, Young won't be back for the first few weeks, struggling to see any other options? Agreed that Mou doesn't rate Shaw at all but unless they sign a LB, I find him quite nailed.

Was thinking Wood, Arnie or Austin but the other two would require shifts elsewhere and would like to keep a strong bench

Is Fabinho nailed on pens? If not, then he has no use at all - at least Keita ventures forward

Yeah, you're right, I think Shaw will get games in the first few weeks of the season. I think my worry is that I agree with Mourinho: Shaw's terrible defensively and we could concede and then he'll be out. You're right though - first few weeks he could be good entry into the United defence.

Fabinho - you're also right. I don't want to stock up on too many players from one side, so I might wait to see whether he's on penalties, then put him in. Keita is a tempting option too.

I love how Mendy is every team now because he created nearly as many chances as Holebas and shot almost as much as Danilo 🙂

He has been in lots of teams for a while, but Holebas stats for creating chances etc is freaky 🙂

More likely because he's nailed. 100%, right?

Yeah I read it, just wasn't sure if you were being ironic in the post above 😀

Yes I was a bit, there is no acknowledgement at all that Sane/formation could impact on Mendy's playing time - to the point that there is a header about it. I've read time and again from various posters that he could struggle to fit in with Sane so i don't know why the point wasn't addressed.

I agree. And Delph has done well enough last season to get plenty of chances, especially if he is the preferred combination with Sane.

Was going Salah-less as I was finding it hard to fit him in and have a balanced squad.
Now come up with this, but what do you guys think? Id love to get Mendy in, but zero left ITB and I'm not keen about 2 x 4.0 def, but that's what Salah does!!

    Ederson - Speroni

Bailly - Robertson - Tomkins - Wan Bissaka - Peltier

    Salah - Sane - Richarlison - Jota - Ward

    Auba - Aguero - Kamara

    Cheers

I think the problem is if you are going Salah.
You have to pick two of Aguero Aubameyang and Sane to get a balanced squad on paper.
A lot of teams with Salah plan to switch Aguero to Aubameyang gw3
Who knows Richarlison - Jota - Ward could turn out to be great value.
Then the likes of me who have gone without Salah will look very silly.
