As the first match of the 2018/19 Premier League season creeps ever closer we switch focus to Sky Sports’ Fantasy game.

We have launched our Free League for the campaign and you can find details of how to join it below.

Here we go over the basics of the game before we delve into more detail in the coming days.

How do I play?

Just like in FPL you select a squad of players that will either earn you attacking, defensive or bonus points in an attempt to score more than your friends, colleagues and/or the rest of the world. However, you choose simply a starting XI and do not have a bench.

Gameweeks run from Friday to Thursday with managers allowed transfers in between Gamedays, allowing maximisation of potential points by bringing in an asset yet to play for one who has already been involved that week.

Also, instead of one free switch per Gameweek (and a maximum of two if a previous one is saved), the Sky Sports game allocates 40 transfers that can be used any time during the season, with a limit of five in one Gameweek, creating the need for a more long-term strategy.

Wildcards, or Overhauls, are also available in Sky Sports. The first one becomes available to use following the completion of Gameweek 4 and remains an option until the deadline for Gameweek 6. The second one becomes active after the final match of Gameweek 27, through Gameweek 28 and until the Gameweek 29 deadline.

In Sky Sports Fantasy you can name more than one captain in a Gameweek depending on who is playing on which day. Managers are limited to one captain per day allowing them to potentially have up to four in one Gameweek and get double points for all of them. For example, if there were fixtures on Friday, Saturday, Sunday and Monday in any given Gameweek, a Sky Sports Fantasy manager could name a different skipper on each of those match days, providing they did so before that day’s deadline. Managers can also schedule their captains ahead of a Gameweek too.

How do you score points?

The points structure is largely similar to FPL in Sky Sports Fantasy but tends to award more points for the actions mentioned below.

Action Points scored
Starting XI 2
Substitution appearance 1
Goal scored by a goalkeeper/defender 7
Goal scored by a midfielder 6
Goal scored by a striker 5
Goal assist 3
Clean sheet by a goalkeeper (must play 60+ mins) 7
Clean sheet by a defender (must play 60+ mins) 5
A penalty save by a goalkeeper 5
Man of the Match 5

Can My Team Lose Points?

Unfortunately, just like in FPL there are a few ways to lose points too.

Action Points scored
Missing a penalty -3
Every goal conceded from the second goal onwards -1
Each yellow card -1
Each red card -3
Each own goal -2

How do Bonus Points work?

Just like FPL there are additional points on offer for other events in matches, although the structure is slightly different, as you will see below.

Tier 1 Action
Points scored
5 saves made (GK only) 2
3 tackles made (all) 2
60 completed passes 2
3 shots on target 2
Tier 2 Action
Points scored
7+ saves made (GK only) 3
5+ tackles made (all) 3
70+ completed passes 3
5+ shots on target 3

How do I play against my friends?

There are a number of different ways to compete against others in Sky Sports Fantasy. You can create or join a Free League with your friends and colleagues but there are ways to win money too.

Sky Sports can actually administer your money league for you to avoid any awkwardness post-season. You can choose the entry fee (either £2, £5, £10 or £20 per person) and the prize structure beforehand and Sky Sports will take care of the rest.

How can I join the Fantasy Football Scout league?

As usual, we have got a league on Sky Sports Fantasy. It’s called FFScout and you can join using the code 8386881.

    A) Arnautovic + 4.5/5.0 midfielder(already have Cairney so it would be another )

    B) Richarlison + Kamara(or 4.5 forward)

Don't know why people are so sure Auba wont score against City / Chelsea. I'll be surprised if he doesn't.

Even if auba scores one vs one of them, Sanchez might still outscore him if he just gets an assist, also his fixtures are much better

What do you think of the team?

    Patricio
    Robertson, Azpi, Lowton
    Salah, Jota, Mkhitaryan, David Silva
    Aubameyang, Zaha, Arnautovic

    Subs: Fabianski, Cedric, Stephes, Wan-Bissaka

Looks good. Only thing is maybe take a punt on someone and then get mkhi or auba as I wouldn’t want to start with two arsenal attackers

  6. JJeyy

    Best option?:

    A) Aguero + Mkhi/pedro
    B) Mane + D.Silva

How many games do you think Fernandinho will play this season? If he plays around 30 I think that he could be a good pick. With the way that City score he is bound to get some goals and assists and he is real cheap at 5.5

More than any other City outfield player.

The only problem is if you want to triple on more dynamic City options.

That’s a good point but I don’t think I do. I’m only planning on getting the defender who seems to be most nailed and KDB unless there’s an injury and one other attacker is nailed for a few weeks but then I’d get rid of KDB to get him

Arnie's opening run of fixtures are prettaaay bad. 5 of the first 9 are bad. Bournemouth only 1 bad out of the first 10.

    Which team do you prefer:
    A (3-4-3).
    Patricio (4.0)
Robbo - Mendy - Tarkowski - Cedric (AWB)
    Salah - Sane/Eriksen/Mane - Pedro - Richarlison (Chalobah)
    Laca - Firmino - Arnie

    B (4-4-2).
    Patricio (4.0)

A'noon all. Any thoughts on this? Going 3-4-3. Mahrez if he plays in CS

    Fab - 4.0
Mendy - Robbo - Tomkins - (Wan Bissaka - Bennet)
    Salah - Mahrez - XXX - XXX - (Ward)
    Auba - Arnie - XXX

    A - Richa, Maddison , Firmino
    B - Sanchez - Cairney, Zaha

A gives more balance but if Sanchez is back to his best he's gold before luka returns.

Thing is, although they look certain for relegation, their defence is their greatest quality (sort of like a sh!t Burnley). Due to this, I don't think they'll get hammered too often (esp not their first few games where spirits will be running high).

Salah perma captain doesn’t look all that good to me.

WHU, pal, BRI, lei, spu, SOU, che, MCI, hud, CAR, ars, FUL, wat, EVE, bur, bou. First 16 games. Couple of plum fixtures sure but not as plum as the below:

WHU, HUD, WHU, BOU, CAR, EVE, WAT, ful, LEI, CAR, PAL, WOL, bou, FUL, wol, HUD. Haz, Mané, KDB, Auba first 16.

Conclusion; don’t perma cap Salah. And if you’re not captaining your 13 mill luxury item, is he worth having?

Disagree. As long as you captain him half the time I think it’s fine to have him. You’re only captaining someone costing only two less about one in every four weeks

Pssst. I’m only half serious you know. I accept the fact the Salah is a great player, worthy of the armband most weeks (based on previous season). I just got tired of hearing “needs more Salah” and I’m certain that a Salahless team can do really well. I founded a league for likeminded people and I’m advertising it because, the more the merrier.

What would your team be if you don't have to worry about players returning from WC?

    Patricio - Hamer
    Mendy - Davies - David Luiz - TAA - Wan-Bissaka
    Salah - KDB - Son - Willian - Costa
    Firmino - Arnautovic - Quaner

Mendy/TAA/KDB/Son/Willian/Firmino atm are out of my team. Another indication I will WC after GW4.

What's the obsession with Zaha and Arnie? Both did Ok last year classed as a midfielder, extra points for a goal and clean sheets. Zaha is going to play similar position to last year, ok Arnie might be upfront but his fixtures are also awful to start.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but hasn't Sorloth been starting up top pre season. And Benteke before his injury ? Zaha is a classic winger and can only see him playing as a CF of there is no other options

Bookies have Zaha to score about 8 PL goals this season and is not for me at all. I get the Arnie appeal more, but I am waiting to see rather than plunging from GW1.

It's also the world cup. Kane, Lukaku are not available so it's kun or auba.

I think they will turn out to be great options. Not a lot of value in premium forwards aside from captain, plum home fixtures so they provide a nice middle ground.

I feel you have better value in a mid priced midfielders than both Zaha and Arnie. Arnie might be a good pick 10 games in, but not from the start for me.

The only reliable route into the City defence is Ederson though really. I agree about Luiz, but hoping to learn more from the community shield game, can switch to any Chelsea defender.

Looks similar to mine. I don't know Jota so that's a wait and see for me while Southampton are not very good so no Cedric for me. Also not a fan of Ederson, I get the set and forget appeal but a keeper from peps team just seems wrong in so many ways.

Also Jorginho, why? Id rather you downgrade or go for someone like Cairney or Kennedy (if he plays).

Right now I'm on Wood over zaha. It's weird cause Zaha seems like he is enjoying himself and thats as good a reason any to select him for my team but im not sure. So many options in that palace side.
