Introduction to the Article Type

With so many RMTs on site, we’re going to start collecting them in these RMT Community Articles.

To start, site regular and moderator Spencer has given us his team, and some explanations of his choices. Feel free to comment on his team.

This is also a place for you to post your team, and please respond to a few others while you’re at it!

Mods have been alerted, and will spend some time on these pages responding.

Spencer’s RMT

Fabianski – Bettinelli

Mendy – Robertson – Luiz – Boly – Tomkins

Salah – Mahrez – Pedro – Deulofeu – Stephens

Aguero – Arnautovic – Zaha

Goalkeepers

  • 9.0 on goalkeepers.  Fabianski with FPL pedigree.  Unsure on Bettinelli, but rotation with Fabianski looks good.
  • First 10 games: CRY – BOU – BUR – WLV – eve – WAT – eve – bha – cda – BOU

Defence

  • Mendy/Robertson/Luiz/Boly/Tomkins
  • Most I’ve spent in defence from the start – I normally play just one big hitter and 4 rotating cheapies.
  • All defenders with potential for attacking points.
  • Mendy a risk worth taking, looked brilliant before his injury.
  • Luiz a risk, so will keep a close eye on the Community Shield.
  • Tomkins looks to be the best 4.5 for me.

Midfielders

  • Got to start with Salah.  Can always downgrade.
  • Mahrez was brilliant at Leicester.  Playing with better players at Man City, I can only see him getting better.  Another one to look out for in the Community Shield.
  • Pedro is a risk, but if he’s nailed he will get attacking points.
  • Watford fixtures look favourable.  Deulofeu looked grerat when on loan from Barcelona last season.
  • Stephens is my 4.5 bench player.

Forwards

  • Aguero is world class.  Possibly some doubts on whether he starts or not.  Keeping an eye on the Community shield.  Will swap to Aubameyang if there are doubts.
  • Arnautovic ended last season in spectacular fashion and this has continued into pre-season.  Made the mistake of not getting him in last time around.
  • Zaha also reclassified as a forward this season.  Does this mean more bonus points?  Doubts over who his strike partner will be at Crystal palace, but I see him returning points regardless. Will need to reconsider if he moves.

1.0 itb to use in an emergency.  eg upgrade Mahrez to Mane, or Deulofeu to Doucoure.

Conclusion

The Key here is flexibility.  Setting price brackets for positions and then finding the right players to fit in.  eg I don’t know if Pedro is the right 6.5 to have, but can easily switch to Jota, Richarlison, or whoever else.

Thoughts? Suggestions? Where have I gone wrong, and where have I gone right? What do you suggest I change?

        I've this same problem. Really think Ederson is worth his value. Then he takes 1 City slot, and you could get good GK combo using just 9.0. i.e Fabianski & Foster or Leno / 4.0.

        Mahrez to D.Silva / Bailly to Shaw / Jota to 5.0 mid. and you get 1ml to use after disastrous GW1

    On about the 100th iteration of my team, any thoughts?

    Alisson (Stek)
    Schlupp, Luiz, Mendy (Daniels) (WB)
    Mahrez, Eriksen, Cairney, Sigurdsson (Stephens)
    Laca, Firminho, Aguero

    Schlupp seems to be in not many peoples teams but he's a defender who seems to have been playing LM/LW in preseason
    Luiz and Mendy status might change depending on charity shield
    Sigurdson can downgrade to Richarlison if more budget is needed

          My thinking is I want to try and get by without Salah and hope (pray) he doesn't go off with a blinder at the start. If he does I have a downgrade of the worst performing striker to Arni/Zaha if Aguero or a 6mil if one of the other two and then Mahrez to Salah?

      What's with all the Lucas Moura love?
      I'm not a fan of short-term punts. There'll be enough necessary transfers without them.

      Personally, I'd downgrade one of Aguero and Auba to Firmino and upgrade Lucas Moura, Tomkins and Maguire where possible.

    Still tinkering but want to avoid the GW 2/3 panic I had last year that effectively cost me a top 100k finish by building a team i'm happy to sit on for at least first 3 weeks.

    De Gea (Lossl)
    Cedric, Digne, Alexander-Arnold (Van Arnholt, Bednarek)
    Salah, Mahrez, Pogba, Richarlison (Cairney)
    Augero, Zaha, Austin

    Will watch team news, but convinced Pogba will be good this season and if he doesn't play first game, i'm happy with Cairney. If Bednarek starts, which I think he will, then will sub out Cedric to be less Saints focussed but otherwise he's my 4.0m enabler.

    Digne surely has to start for Everton and nice fixtures. Austin looks good in pre season unless we buy a striker.

    Not convinced on Aguero, but he will get 2 game weeks then -> Aubameyang / Lukaku / Jesus maybe

        True, always a risk. But I was basing it on these quotes:

        As for Alexander-Arnold, Klopp said the 19-year-old is raring to go, and could be ready to feature at Dublin’s Aviva Stadium this weekend.

        “Trent seems to be really relaxed and really desperate to be part of the team again, so [it is] good to have him and now we can start with him,” he explained.

        Will wait and see over the next week.

    Any love for Morata?

    I've been too busy worrying about doing Auba > Laca to free up funds but if Morata will be up front for Chelsea, they have canny fixtures early on and I don't have any chelsea attacking cover but I have Mkhitaryan for Arsenal... Would also give me extra 0.5 to strengthen elsewhere?

      I'd wait and see with both Morata and Lacazette. Morata was pretty poor last season (and he's just had twins!).

      Maybe downgrade to Zaha and upgrade one of Jota or Richarlison.

    I understand that Fab/Foster offset so you can always get a home match, but WHU and Watford gave up 68 and 64 goals last year, respectively, and I don't see much improvement in their defenses - am I missing something? Assuming Fab is nailed, I guess it is because of the early run of fixtures for that pairing - just don't see that many CS so it all depends on saves/baps so for an extra .5 (5.5+4.0) why not get someone you can just forget about? For me that might be Lloris or Allison in order to keep Man City and Liverpool spots open. But I still don't know! Cheers!

    ps. I agree with some that Ederson is a great choice since he had 16 CS (7 home, 9 away) last year but agree it seems a waste to use that Man City spot on a gk *but wasn't aware that he and De Gea outscored any other less than 6.5, so need to think about that. On another point, in the members section i can search CS home/away but I don't see a column for points, which might be interesting. Did I just not see it?

      I think the standouts are Heaton, Pickford, Dubravka (think save points) - Leno could be decent too.
      Ryan (Button) seems a safe pair. Patricio also sounds decent.

      I'd love to know how many times Ederson got more than 6 points in a game (genuinely no idea), someone like Heaton can still get 4 points without a clean sheet and bonus when he does get one

          Interesting question on Ederson and 6 pointers but ave pts per game comes out at 4.4. I'm taking the view that he's a good starting GK early doors until we see cheaper GK performers. And the benefit is access to Citeh CS's early on while doubts exist over back four (Mendy in particular).

          Nobody in that midfield is nailed, but KDB may well become nailed.

          @ 8.5m, I'm happy to take a punt with him to start the season. He may well play some reduced minutes, but it may well be in cups etc that he misses out on.

          I'm sure we'll quickly find out! Watch out for the CS 😉

        I found it really tough. I'd have to give up Mane/Sane who I think can match them.

        GW3/4 I'll probably really want Auba in.
        Aguero is just too rotation prone for my liking. I think I can get better value from City midfield
