Well past the halfway point, we are now ready to resume normal Fantasy Eliteserien service. We look ahead to upcoming Gameweek 18, overshadowed by the start of the FPL season, potentially giving managers a chance to catch their opponents out.

Chip-review

As a little review, we’ve looked at the Eliteserien chips to delve into their power and possibilities, here by looking at the maximum potential from the first half of the season.

Park the buss: Let’s get the obvious one out of the way: Park the Buss was a massive chip early on, as the double gameweeks in rounds 4 and 6 set up some huge scores for a lot of managers. Maximum payout for these gameweeks were 76 and 82 extra points respectively, and with a huge number of points for favourite players in gameweek 6.

2 Captains: Nailing your captain choice is always a difficult endeavour, but nailing 2 choices had some big potential if you targeted the double gameweek in gameweek 4. Gjermund Åsen alone picked up 30 points, with his teammate Kent-Are Antonsen delivering on a further 17; a potential 47 points there for the taking. Åsen was, at this point a popular choice, so quite a number of managers got a piece of this action as well.

Striker rush: Defying logic, the budget options take this one away, with a whopping 46 extra points being up for grabs in both gameweek 15 and 16. Central to these hauls are Molde youth star Erling Braut Håland, hauling 6 goals and an assist over the 2 gameweeks for 21 and 16 points respectively. He did this while Manchester United, amongst others, scouted him from the stands. Around him other budget names packed in some scores, with Frank Boli (Stabæk), Runar Espejord (Tromsø), Bendik Bye (Kristiansund), and Kristian Fardal Opseth (Bodø/Glimt) all scoring in double digits. While many might have had Håland in their side, few capitalised fully on the chip-opportunity for these rounds.

Gameweek 18 feature matches

Rosenborg – Stabæk
(Sunday, 5:00 P.M.)
Having sacked their head coach and his assistant, the caretaker coach set about adjusting the Rosenborg midfield somewhat, flipping the V for the midfield 3 and giving Mike Jensen the advanced number 10 role. This showed immediate effect as he netted a goal and banged one off the crossbar in their recent away clash against Ranheim. Jensen also showed some signs of form against Celtic in the champions league qualifier, and finally looks a decent option at his now 9.3 price tag. With their top 3 wingers on the injury-list, budget option Jonatan Levi is getting a lot of gametime, and has showed a lot of promise. We’re looking at him to break out against league straglers Stabæk this weekend. The lack of true wingers has also opened the striker spot for Alexander Søderlund, but he still looks a bit rusty and struggles to find the net. Niklas Bendtner is now out wide and not looking a big threat either. Birger Meling however firmly stakes his claim as the Eliteserien equivalent of Alonso, as he is storming up and down the line like a winger, seeing a lot of action in the box, and even netted a goal at Celtic Park in the qualifiers.

Molde – Brann
(Sunday, 5:00 P.M.)
Brann have been stumbling and are not looking as solid as they were in the first half of the season, but still look mighty strong. This matchup will be a true test as in form Molde are closing the gap fast to rejoin the title race, led by young star Erling Braut Håland and a solid midfield line. We’re looking at Eirik Hestad and Magnus Wolff Eikrem in the Molde midfield as big options as well. From Brann, Gilli Rolantsson once again scored in the last match, showing big potential. They have not had many penalties, but Wormgoor still looks a decent pick, and last match their midfield virtuoso Fredrik Haugen showed class with a great free kick in the back of the net.

MrKlin says..

In the midst of Europa League qualifiers, teams like Rosenborg, Sarpsborg, and Molde have hit the back half of the season running, looking to have picked up some form by their earlier resuming of play. This has resulted in good looking scorelines for the trio, but also offers rotation headaches for managers looking to get players in. Rosenborg and Molde are well covered, but Sarpsborg are, in addition to their qualifiers mid-week, heading in to a tough couple of games hosting, Lillestrøm and then away to Brann. Despite their form you might want to think twice about investing here, but putting Patrick Mortensen and Kristoffer Zachariassen on the watchlist now might be advisable. A huge home game for IK Start who, despite getting thumped by Brann, are showing signs of turning it around under new management. Winger Kevin Kabran is once more looking enticing and their next fixture is at home against a Ranheim team who are a bit out of form. An outside punt on Elliot Kack can also be considered, and at 4.2 this could be a good pick to free up some cash should you need it. Also have a look at Haugesund’s premium defender Alexander Stølås, who has scored good points in 3 of the last 4, and has some good fixtures coming up in his next 3.

Scout Picks

MrKlin’s picks for Gameweek 18

Bråtveit
Meling – Tønne – Stølås
Jensen – Akintola – Nguen – Levi – Kabran

    Early deadline today all!

Who's your captain? What are your transfers? Are you using any chips?

I've sold Rolantsson for Granli, and TLO for Johnson.

Captaincy for me is between Haland, Johnson, and Boli.. and am considering Spissrush but probably won't do it

Considering two-captains for Johnson/Haaland. Don't know when else to use it - maybe final gw and/or get RBK in and hope for no rotation. Rolling FT

Lillestrøm seem fired up, I really like Lehne Olsen who has exploded in the last few weeks of the last couple of seasons hence getting him in this week. Braut (K).

Will probably save Two Captains for the last couple of GWs when we'll know all the lineups ahead of deadline.

Went with Håland as captain, which paid off okay.

Not sure what to do with my Brann defence, didn't sell them off but has benched both Woorm and Rolantsson. Probably stupid as I'm left with opposing Ruud and Stølås (both likely to produce something or a lot) for the following team this week:

      Hansen
      Tønne - Stølås - Ruud
      Nguen - Levi - Shaka - Ejuke
Bamba - Boli Braut Håland (C)
      Maric | Rolantsson, Smarason, Woorm

In retrospect should've maybe fit Smarason there, and I'm unsure about Levi. But then again, Lillestrøm isn't looking good. Bamba gets his last chance this week, barring any other obvious holes that need fixing next week.

Strømsgodset are in a pickle. Could be in the relegation places by tomorrow and Pedersen picking up a nasty shoulder injury today. Can't believe they were considered title contenders before the season and a lot of us had a triple up in GW1.

The experts had a real shocker with Strømsgodset, Haugesund and especially Ranheim: https://www.vg.no/spesial/2018/vglupen/

    1. MTPockets

Strømsgodset have a pretty good team, so continues to baffle me. Injuries and losing Jradi hasn't helped.

    2. TallestJohn
      8 years, 13 days ago

Mad how they're doing so badly yet their attacking players have arguably surpassed expectations, at least from a fantasy point of view. Pedersen chasing the golden boot, Ulland Andersen set piece maestro, Tokki stepping up with Jradi gone.

  20. Onz
    8 years, 11 days ago

How about Afeez to Hestad and or Reginiussen to Adegbenro if you fancy RBK to improve, Adegbenro will probably not be rotated as much as some of the others.
I would be tempted with a WC but after the Brann Rosenborg result is know will make it easier to see how the last games could pan out, and who will still have something to play for.
Meling should play the next eliteserien match, Smarsson and Afeez will be suspended so I would get rid of Afeez at the least. Bench Smarsson

    1. Onz
      8 years, 11 days ago

I would also punt Jebali due to rotation ( and to get Adegbenro as you already have 3 RBK.

    Team ( id 5551) Dupuytren's this week.
FT burnt on Afeez to Rufo due to Afeez and Smarasson being suspended.

    McD ( Bratveit)
Tonne, Stolas, Wormgoor ( Reginiussen, Melling)
Rufo, EUA, Akintola, Hestad ( Smarasson)
    Haland k, Johnson vk, Boli

Haland has the band atm but I could go with Boli, Hestad or Tonne as the whim takes me.

True. That match has the potential to be wide open, though. But not sure I'm risking it, so next week it is. Probably not necessary to hit anything, despite Adegbenro looking interesting.

    1. TallestJohn
      8 years, 10 days ago

I'm keeping because I think he'll still be worth having for the last few games, Ruud and Acosta are bigger problems for me. I'd probably think about saving transfers for the last couple of weeks.

      1. TAT
        8 years, 8 days ago

That sounds like a good plan – saving transfers for the last few GW's can make a lot of difference. The trouble with the Smárason suspension for my team, is that I'm left with playing double Brann defence or double Rosenborg defence, and I don't necessary see a lot of points for either.

    2. Hotdogs for Tea

Three red flags for me, if I had noticed that two players were near suspension I wouldn’t have picked them on my recent WC - big error by me ;(

I haven't paid attention to suspension risks this season; luckily only a few suspensions throughout the 26 GW's. The Smárason one came at a very difficult time for the team, though! 🙁

Just noticed Reginiussen is yellow flagged too… Double Brann defence it looks like!

Normally I wouldn't ask but not sure I want to double up Rosenberg defence (playing Meling) at Brann, so would you play Sandberg (bg) over Hansen? Cheers.

If it helps I am benching Meling and Reginiussen for that match away at Brann.

Interesting cheers, playing Meling and Wormgoor. Guess it's how brave do I feel ...

I'm personally doing Hansen and Woorm (over Rolantsson). Benched the suspended Ruud. So yeah, not much better here, either.

To answer your gk question: I'm thinking Hansen has good potential save points, potentially bonus ones, as well. Unsure what I think Glimt odds are, but they're not looking that good, and they're up against Boli, so a goal or two is probable, although the pressure from Stabæk would likely be less (ie fewer saves potential) than that of the high stakes nature of Brann RBK, and Hansen is a good keeper to boot. Someone bigger on number crunching and such can probably give a better reply, but that's my gut feeling, at least. But, hey, I'm fielding Bamba, too, so I'm obviously all about the save points, not cs on this.

If no-one else has submitted anything I have written a quick preview of team news, key fixtures and teams which could go towards a new article for this GW

Sounds good. Should probably submit it asap as think it can take a while to be approved..

Whoops. Your Allsvenskan's going well though.

Yes, Allsvenskan is going much better than Eliteserian fantasy or FPL. The Jeremejeff transfer on WC has paid off so far!

Yeah 5 goals, but not a sniff for Irandust.

Actually thought this would be a week for him to do well, actually. Still some good fixtures for Häcken, I think – so he can still deliver points.

Hah* lots of "actually" there. We need an edit button.

    Boli captaincy fail…

Unlucky, was a decent pick. I'm on braut so we'll see.

Had the captaincy on Braut for a while, but Boli seemed like a good opportunity. Hope there won't be a red arrow!
