Well past the halfway point, we are now ready to resume normal Fantasy Eliteserien service. We look ahead to upcoming Gameweek 18, overshadowed by the start of the FPL season, potentially giving managers a chance to catch their opponents out.

Chip-review

As a little review, we’ve looked at the Eliteserien chips to delve into their power and possibilities, here by looking at the maximum potential from the first half of the season.

Park the buss: Let’s get the obvious one out of the way: Park the Buss was a massive chip early on, as the double gameweeks in rounds 4 and 6 set up some huge scores for a lot of managers. Maximum payout for these gameweeks were 76 and 82 extra points respectively, and with a huge number of points for favourite players in gameweek 6.

2 Captains: Nailing your captain choice is always a difficult endeavour, but nailing 2 choices had some big potential if you targeted the double gameweek in gameweek 4. Gjermund Åsen alone picked up 30 points, with his teammate Kent-Are Antonsen delivering on a further 17; a potential 47 points there for the taking. Åsen was, at this point a popular choice, so quite a number of managers got a piece of this action as well.

Striker rush: Defying logic, the budget options take this one away, with a whopping 46 extra points being up for grabs in both gameweek 15 and 16. Central to these hauls are Molde youth star Erling Braut Håland, hauling 6 goals and an assist over the 2 gameweeks for 21 and 16 points respectively. He did this while Manchester United, amongst others, scouted him from the stands. Around him other budget names packed in some scores, with Frank Boli (Stabæk), Runar Espejord (Tromsø), Bendik Bye (Kristiansund), and Kristian Fardal Opseth (Bodø/Glimt) all scoring in double digits. While many might have had Håland in their side, few capitalised fully on the chip-opportunity for these rounds.

Gameweek 18 feature matches

Rosenborg – Stabæk
(Sunday, 5:00 P.M.)
Having sacked their head coach and his assistant, the caretaker coach set about adjusting the Rosenborg midfield somewhat, flipping the V for the midfield 3 and giving Mike Jensen the advanced number 10 role. This showed immediate effect as he netted a goal and banged one off the crossbar in their recent away clash against Ranheim. Jensen also showed some signs of form against Celtic in the champions league qualifier, and finally looks a decent option at his now 9.3 price tag. With their top 3 wingers on the injury-list, budget option Jonatan Levi is getting a lot of gametime, and has showed a lot of promise. We’re looking at him to break out against league straglers Stabæk this weekend. The lack of true wingers has also opened the striker spot for Alexander Søderlund, but he still looks a bit rusty and struggles to find the net. Niklas Bendtner is now out wide and not looking a big threat either. Birger Meling however firmly stakes his claim as the Eliteserien equivalent of Alonso, as he is storming up and down the line like a winger, seeing a lot of action in the box, and even netted a goal at Celtic Park in the qualifiers.

Molde – Brann
(Sunday, 5:00 P.M.)
Brann have been stumbling and are not looking as solid as they were in the first half of the season, but still look mighty strong. This matchup will be a true test as in form Molde are closing the gap fast to rejoin the title race, led by young star Erling Braut Håland and a solid midfield line. We’re looking at Eirik Hestad and Magnus Wolff Eikrem in the Molde midfield as big options as well. From Brann, Gilli Rolantsson once again scored in the last match, showing big potential. They have not had many penalties, but Wormgoor still looks a decent pick, and last match their midfield virtuoso Fredrik Haugen showed class with a great free kick in the back of the net.

MrKlin says..

In the midst of Europa League qualifiers, teams like Rosenborg, Sarpsborg, and Molde have hit the back half of the season running, looking to have picked up some form by their earlier resuming of play. This has resulted in good looking scorelines for the trio, but also offers rotation headaches for managers looking to get players in. Rosenborg and Molde are well covered, but Sarpsborg are, in addition to their qualifiers mid-week, heading in to a tough couple of games hosting, Lillestrøm and then away to Brann. Despite their form you might want to think twice about investing here, but putting Patrick Mortensen and Kristoffer Zachariassen on the watchlist now might be advisable. A huge home game for IK Start who, despite getting thumped by Brann, are showing signs of turning it around under new management. Winger Kevin Kabran is once more looking enticing and their next fixture is at home against a Ranheim team who are a bit out of form. An outside punt on Elliot Kack can also be considered, and at 4.2 this could be a good pick to free up some cash should you need it. Also have a look at Haugesund’s premium defender Alexander Stølås, who has scored good points in 3 of the last 4, and has some good fixtures coming up in his next 3.

Scout Picks

MrKlin’s picks for Gameweek 18

How does this WC team look?

    Hansen - Maric
    Wormgoor - Rolantsson - Stølås - Tønne - Meling
    Hestad - Rashani - Akintola - Layouni - Smarason
    Boli - Jebali - Bamba

    1.2 itb

Tossed out Pedersen and Braut Håland among others. Considering Opseth instead of one of the other forwards this week. Would also like to exchange one or two other players for a slightly more differential pick. Not sure whom. Akintola to Ejuke, perhaps, which leaves me with 0.7 itb. Could also toss out Meling to save some money?

Nice. The alternatives you're considering are all good tbh, so impossible to suggest a particular option.
      Tricky bench decision.

So.. My WC didn't save. Had to restart the app but couldn't set it up before deadline. I got 58 points out of last week's team so I'm not really complaining.

Was actually thinking of Ruud as well, current draft:

      Hansen - Maric
Wormgoor - Rolantsson - Tønne - Ruud - Stølås OR Meling
      Rashani - Ejuke - Shala - Reginiussen - Smarason
Braut Håland - Jebali - Boli

3.8 itb (2.0 itb if Meling)

As people have mentioned, Reginiussen could very much come on form with not the worst match-ups. He's quick to go if not, though. Odd has decent matches as well, I'm comfortable with a double up. Shala looks really interesting. Vålerenga has decent matches coming up so Ejuke for Akintola seems good. Same can be said for Haugesund, though, so getting rid of both Akintola and Stølås probably isn't that smart. Jensen is a contender in the midfield, as well, especially if getting rid of RBK defenders. Also not all that sure about Håland. But if he goes, I have to squeeze in Hestad or someone in the midfield. Need at least one Molde asset. Will have to see about Bamba as well.

I can live with benching headaches...

Getting rid of Aursnes and Kabran this week for cheap bench fodder (Valles likely as seems nailed) and as good a mid as I can.
    Leaves me £8.8m, any thoughts on who to get in, maybe one of these (have Smárason, EUA, Akintola and 3 RBK already);
    A. Rashani
    B. Nguen
    C. Hestad / Eikrem
    D. Ejuke
    E. Anyone else?
    Thanks all

Actually Valerenga's fixtures arguably even better. I want to sell Layouni and looking at Ejuke/Levi/Regi atm. Regi's heatmaps not particularly inspiring tbh, but then he had a good run earlier in the season out of nowhere. Already have Hestad and your mids (except rbk mid) and need to check rbk euro schedule.

Eliteserien Community Article callout.. anyone interested in writing one? Niemi and MrKlin haven't had time recently.

It can be a collaboration if anyone wants to do part of it - I can put in my thoughts and predictions for the GW but what I'm most looking for is a preview of some of the games for next GW. I'm a little hesitant to write it all myself because my time watching games has been for FPL (I think I've watched every game) and haven't had time to do direct scouting on ES. Can anyone help out?

It'd be good to have a more accessible place in the Community Articles to talk about Eliteserien, particularly as we're now in the final stretch 🙂

Email me if you're interested, or comment here!

If anyone is interested, points at some ranks (pretty sure I copied it correctly):

    1470 points - 1
    1424 points - 10
    1385 points - 50
    1362 points - 100
    1326 points - 250
    1296 points - 500
    1278 points - 750
    1264 points - 1000

And the number of points between the same ranks
    1-10 = 46 points
    10-50 = 49 points
    50-100 = 23 points
    100-250 = 36 points
    250-500 = 32 points
    500-750 = 18 points
    750-1000 = 14 points

Nice battle at the top with two on 1470.
Huge gaps at the top, with the top 250 spread amazingly by 144 points, compared to 100 points between 250-1000.

Haven't decided that yet, potentially gameweek after this for spissrush (Pedersen, Boli, Jebali all reasonable fixtures), could even double up with Soderlund in against SAN.
Had thought of punting and using two captains this week on Ruud and Akintola, but doubting it now.

I actually find this slightly uplifting. Only about 100 points behind 1k. Will be tough to climb all the way there, but on WC this week and two chips left so should be able to gain some ground if I'm either lucky or smart enough (preferably both).

        Obviously 😀

I think you can, really. Depending on what the chips are, of course, but I think you can definitely aim for at least an extra 10 points from every chip. Play the WC right.. get some captains right.. can be done!

What's your WC team look like?

Spissrush and Two Captains. Haven't quite tweaked it towards the chips yet.

          Currently:

          Hansen - Maric
Wormgoor - Rolantsson - Tønne - Ruud - Stølås OR Meling
          Rashani - Ejuke - Shala - Reginiussen - Smarason
Braut Håland - Jebali - Boli

3.8 itb (2.0 itb if Meling)

I noticed Håland is flagged, and he's rather hit/miss, so a little unsure there. Bamba is a contender despite not on top currently. Lehne Olsen is also not the worst option. Have to work out some kinks in the defense and possibly midfield as well.

Really drawing a blank there. Bamba, Lehne Olsen, maybe, or Finne, Bye or maybe Bringsaker for something out of the left field.

For good and bad. Having some trouble finding good differentials or players that aren't owned by everyone. I guess that's everyone's problem this last stretch. Which players are basically not-fall-behind-tax, and which ones can you do without. I'd preferably toss in another well performing

No idea how as I continue to do little to no research beyond looking at the stats on the transfer page but I've got a September rank of 23 which has seen me rise from 1.6k to 831 in the world in Fantasy Allsvenskan.

Meanwhile my wildcarded, meticulously planned, well researched Eliteserien team has bobbed between 6.5-8.5k for the last 8 weeks.

Didn't turn out too badly in the end, but such an annoying league for finding team info/rotation/injuries.
Have floated around in a 750 rank range for the last 18 weeks in Eliteserien.

    Eliteserien game down right now.

Takeaways from yesterday.. Meling injured. Anything else?

Meling injured (might not be too serious, but went off after only a few minutes). Rosenborg had little trouble against the Vålerenga defence, so I wouldn't be looking at Vålerenga defenders anytime soon.

That's awkward. Even with the international break could be cutting it fine to get back for gw27, and that's vs Brann anyway.

Would I be correct in saying Kastrati has been booked in his last 6 league appearances and picked up 4 suspensions in that time? Or was one of the absences due to his move? Either way I would've liked to take a punt on him on WC but went Engblom due to Kastrati being a card magnet. 4 goals and 6 bonus in his last 6 games too.

    1. MTPockets

Suspension after first 4 then every 2, so looks like booked in last 6 and picked up 3 suspensions.

Probably a stupid decision, but left Braut Håland out on WC. If either of the forwards don't perform (especially Bamba or Boli), I'll put Håland back in and do spissrush next week, which is what I'm trying to set up.

    Hansen
    Tønne - Stølås - Ruud - Rolantsson
    Smarason - Reginiussen (K) - Ejuke
    Bamba - Boli - Jebali
    (Maric | Rashani - Levi - Wormgoor)

Have to bench someone. Which, alternatively could mean getting rid of Rashani altogether if I'm not fielding him against Sandefjord (Levi is there for triple RBK next round against them, so my logic isn't sound, but they're at home - which also is an argument to keep Håland this round...). Difficult!

Hopefully. Staring at Widgren and Tamimi's 12 and 7 point haul on the bench at the moment, so I so need some results from the starting eleven (or that someone doesn't play!)

            1. MTPockets
              7 years, 10 months ago

Same 2 on the bench. Hoping Sandberg goes missing. I've really messed up the rotation in this game - assuming injuries/out of favour when probably just rests for games in close proximity, and vice versa..

                • 8 Years
                7 years, 10 months ago

Rotation was a big issue for me going into this game with Widgren missing the last game, and Malmö players not getting full 90 mins/playing at all. Now they're blocking Widgren's points with their low-scoring results this GW.

Still have the wildcard to spend, but unsure which changes to make.

                1. MTPockets
                  7 years, 10 months ago

Yeah wc is tricky with conflict in final games between form and fixtures. e.g. Elfsborg, Bromma, Sirius, Trelleborg have best fixtures on paper, but investment is debateable. Malmo and Ostersunds better form but unkind fixtures.
