Well past the halfway point, we are now ready to resume normal Fantasy Eliteserien service. We look ahead to upcoming Gameweek 18, overshadowed by the start of the FPL season, potentially giving managers a chance to catch their opponents out.

Chip-review

As a little review, we’ve looked at the Eliteserien chips to delve into their power and possibilities, here by looking at the maximum potential from the first half of the season.

Park the buss: Let’s get the obvious one out of the way: Park the Buss was a massive chip early on, as the double gameweeks in rounds 4 and 6 set up some huge scores for a lot of managers. Maximum payout for these gameweeks were 76 and 82 extra points respectively, and with a huge number of points for favourite players in gameweek 6.

2 Captains: Nailing your captain choice is always a difficult endeavour, but nailing 2 choices had some big potential if you targeted the double gameweek in gameweek 4. Gjermund Åsen alone picked up 30 points, with his teammate Kent-Are Antonsen delivering on a further 17; a potential 47 points there for the taking. Åsen was, at this point a popular choice, so quite a number of managers got a piece of this action as well.

Striker rush: Defying logic, the budget options take this one away, with a whopping 46 extra points being up for grabs in both gameweek 15 and 16. Central to these hauls are Molde youth star Erling Braut Håland, hauling 6 goals and an assist over the 2 gameweeks for 21 and 16 points respectively. He did this while Manchester United, amongst others, scouted him from the stands. Around him other budget names packed in some scores, with Frank Boli (Stabæk), Runar Espejord (Tromsø), Bendik Bye (Kristiansund), and Kristian Fardal Opseth (Bodø/Glimt) all scoring in double digits. While many might have had Håland in their side, few capitalised fully on the chip-opportunity for these rounds.

Gameweek 18 feature matches

Rosenborg – Stabæk
(Sunday, 5:00 P.M.)
Having sacked their head coach and his assistant, the caretaker coach set about adjusting the Rosenborg midfield somewhat, flipping the V for the midfield 3 and giving Mike Jensen the advanced number 10 role. This showed immediate effect as he netted a goal and banged one off the crossbar in their recent away clash against Ranheim. Jensen also showed some signs of form against Celtic in the champions league qualifier, and finally looks a decent option at his now 9.3 price tag. With their top 3 wingers on the injury-list, budget option Jonatan Levi is getting a lot of gametime, and has showed a lot of promise. We’re looking at him to break out against league straglers Stabæk this weekend. The lack of true wingers has also opened the striker spot for Alexander Søderlund, but he still looks a bit rusty and struggles to find the net. Niklas Bendtner is now out wide and not looking a big threat either. Birger Meling however firmly stakes his claim as the Eliteserien equivalent of Alonso, as he is storming up and down the line like a winger, seeing a lot of action in the box, and even netted a goal at Celtic Park in the qualifiers.

Molde – Brann
(Sunday, 5:00 P.M.)
Brann have been stumbling and are not looking as solid as they were in the first half of the season, but still look mighty strong. This matchup will be a true test as in form Molde are closing the gap fast to rejoin the title race, led by young star Erling Braut Håland and a solid midfield line. We’re looking at Eirik Hestad and Magnus Wolff Eikrem in the Molde midfield as big options as well. From Brann, Gilli Rolantsson once again scored in the last match, showing big potential. They have not had many penalties, but Wormgoor still looks a decent pick, and last match their midfield virtuoso Fredrik Haugen showed class with a great free kick in the back of the net.

MrKlin says..

In the midst of Europa League qualifiers, teams like Rosenborg, Sarpsborg, and Molde have hit the back half of the season running, looking to have picked up some form by their earlier resuming of play. This has resulted in good looking scorelines for the trio, but also offers rotation headaches for managers looking to get players in. Rosenborg and Molde are well covered, but Sarpsborg are, in addition to their qualifiers mid-week, heading in to a tough couple of games hosting, Lillestrøm and then away to Brann. Despite their form you might want to think twice about investing here, but putting Patrick Mortensen and Kristoffer Zachariassen on the watchlist now might be advisable. A huge home game for IK Start who, despite getting thumped by Brann, are showing signs of turning it around under new management. Winger Kevin Kabran is once more looking enticing and their next fixture is at home against a Ranheim team who are a bit out of form. An outside punt on Elliot Kack can also be considered, and at 4.2 this could be a good pick to free up some cash should you need it. Also have a look at Haugesund’s premium defender Alexander Stølås, who has scored good points in 3 of the last 4, and has some good fixtures coming up in his next 3.

Scout Picks

MrKlin’s picks for Gameweek 18

Meling – Tønne – Stølås
Jensen – Akintola – Nguen – Levi – Kabran

So I think this is the week to play 2 captains.... but who? Johnson, Boli, Jebali (or a transfer in for Håland) are in my thoughts. Any suggestions or anyone missing as I have a couple of transfers up my sleeves...

Searching g for a third striker for spissrush, who would you go for (alongside Jebali and Boli)?
    A) Pedersen (FKH)
    B) Finne/Johnson (stb)
    C) Bamba (LSK)

Currently have A, B seem to both be on form, whereas C has a great fixture (but worried about rotation)

On contemplation, Finne over Johnson. Bamba may not get the time on the pitch to score points and has struggled even when he has played + 60 and I don't fancy Pederson against Haugesund.

    4. MTPockets
      7 years, 9 months ago

I've picked Johnson, but for no particular reason except watching him earlier in the season.
For balance, up to gw23 Finne had better goals/xG per 90/goal attempts & Johnson better xG per attempt: https://twitter.com/KroneBall/status/1045399929131159552

I'd go Finne or Bamba, I like how involved in the play they are. Bamba good at stretching the play and running behind, Finne seems like a bit of a Kuyt-style player who works for the team. Think that just gives them the edge over the others at the moment.

Just caught up on highlights, Lillestrøm-Stabæk was great. Fancy Lehne Olsen to reprise his TIL role as chief relegation battler.

What's up with the 3+ different kits LSK have worn this season?

Also why did McDermott get a penalty save against Ranheim? He got a touch on the first one but it went in, went the wrong way on the second one.

Brann considering playing both Bamba and Skålevik up front against Lillestrøm – with Rólantsson making way for Skålevik…

Jebali situation is difficult, as (I think) we only have that previously posted tweet to go by. Rosenborg have options in that position though.

Actually, Lehne Olsen have a couple difficult fixtures now. I could actually transfer him out for Johnson/Finne, keeping Bamba.

Very true. Rosenborg soon have plenty of options, with Bendtner, Søderlund, Vilhjálmsson and Botheim as strikers – and de Lanlay, Jebali, Levi, Helland and Adegbenro as wingers.

Adegbenro coming back could be a great differential. I had faith in Helland earlier in the season but I think he's a bit predictable and Levi is a bit more energetic, balances their attack better

He really could be. As things look now, I might have a way to get him with two transfers. Tempting move if he looks like starting games at the end of the season.

Think Adegbenro and Jebali/Levi/de Lanlay is the best way for Rosenborg to play when Adegbenro is fit. Can see de Lanlay playing a few of the EL matches, with Levi/Jebali getting the other games.

Helland has the returning injuries, so he might be played less frequently – at least when he's just back from injury.

We've only had two. One missed by Juklerød who isn't at the club anymore and the other scored by Johnson. Just feel that Johnson is the better option because we don't have much to play for so might prioritise the golden boot.

God Eliteserien is as frustrating as always...... Boli and Ruud suddenly the primes, all the good picks from before just come crashing down.....

Got lucky in Allsvenskan though, Captained Hallenius who was a no-show, leaving me with an 11 point defender vice and getting me 8 point Gall off the bench...... god bless...

    1. MTPockets
      7 years, 9 months ago

Just Irandust's 4pts for me, and 1pt captain fail. And another Abrahamson benching.
Allsvenskan's a regular annoyance for lineups.

Back to read arrows in Eliteserien these days, but only just luckily. Climbed up to 1st in a mini league though, so that's a positive. Have no clue what I'm going to do with the team going forward, with both Spissrush and Two Captains still available.

Allsvenskan has been a positive lately, although it might be a red arrow again this week. Hallenius no- show (anyone know why?) gets me Tamimi's 11 points of the bench, so I don't know what the GW/OR rank will be. Still have wildcard available, but see no major things to change; might just save it for the final two-three games and seek out players with favorable fixtures, looking at the league table.

      frustrating ? oh, yes...

      GW 21 - OR 180
GW 22 - 28p, disaster, GW rank 43K, red arrow
GW 23 - used Two Captains chip, 54p, +12p on bench, red arrow
GW 24 - Wildcard, 46p, +13 on bench, red arrow
GW 25 - 57p and green arrow again, on OR 269

Points on Boli(C)16, Ruud 10, Hestad 8, Søderlund 6 & 3p on midfielders Shala, Eikrem, Nguen

Ejuke, Bamba and double Brann defenders turned out wrong on my WC
I should have sticked with my original plan, WC in GW 28/29 and Two Captains GW 30

BUT, 2 ft next GW, I will maybe do Ejuke > Adegbenro + Søderlund > Braut Håland

      will give me this team:

      Hansen
      Regis-Tønne-Ruud
      Hestad-Eikrem-Shala-Nguen-Adegbenro
      Braut Håland-Boli (C)

      Larsen Kw-Bamba-Worm-Gilli

What do you guys think about this team ?

      1. MTPockets
        7 years, 9 months ago

Could be a good. My only issue is who will play each RBK fixture?

        20/10 - lsk
        25/10 - Europa
        28/10 - bra
01/11 - Norwegian Cup semi final
        04/11 - ODD
        08/11 - Europa
        11/11 - IKS

We need a new article or at least a hot topic! I could submit something for next GW if nobody else does. Brann-Rosenborg next week will be season defining, but neither look at their best and Molde have the momentum.

Adegbenro played a few mins in the last game, tempted to take a punt but might see if he makes it through another game and make the move for Ejuke next week.

Opseth → Lehne Olsen my transfer this week. RBK apparently have a lot of fitness concerns so I'll probably keep Levi for now. Armband currently on Braut.

Definitely would be good to have another article, so close to the end of the season. Rolling my transfer this week after a good result from last week's spissrush. Captain either Braut or Søderlund probably.

    2. MTPockets
      7 years, 9 months ago

Would be great if you could.

Also looking at RBK mid, just worried about rotation per post above. And was planning to finally downgrade Meling but his flag has gone.

Cap on Johnson. Haaland appeals, just wonder if Sarpsborg will be as bad after a break without european games to manage.

Think Sarpsborg have given up the league completely and will have both eyes on the midweek EL game. Progressing from the group would be unreal considering their budget and they've actually got a decent chance because of their artificial turf home advantage.

Molde have the form, are the league's top scorers and score crazily at home. Håland is a better pick than Johnson imo but I'm currently on the latter because of my VIF bias 😛

        1. MTPockets
          7 years, 9 months ago

Good point about another midweek game. What do you think about Nouri - too optimisitc to have him starting over Wormgoor/Meling (with Hansen in goal)? Just your opinion - won't hold you to it.

Sorry, only just saw this. We've been shipping goals at home in 'easier' fixtures all season so I don't really trust our defence. I would probably have gone for Meling for potential attacking returns.
