The start of the new season is just days away and the Scoutcast crew are still full of doubts about their 15-man Fantasy Premier League squads.

Andy, Az, David and Mark join me to mull over our likely strategies for the start of the 2018/19 campaign as well as reveal our current line-ups.

Across our 82-minute chat, a consensus emerges on backing Manchester City and Liverpool premium assets. But that could all change depending on tomorrow’s transfer deadline day deals and surprise team news.

Meanwhile, Wolverhampton Wanderers, Crystal Palace and Bournemouth look set to supply our teams with a supporting cast of bargain enablers due to favourable fixtures. Well, for now at least.

But the groupthink soon breaks down when we discuss forward options, with Mark looking exclusively for value up top, while the rest of us are more keen to splash our cash.

The hive-mind soon returns at the end as we reveal our top choice for the Gameweek 1 armband, so to help those daring to shun a certain Egyptian we also offer up a host of alternative captaincy options.

This ScoutCast was first beamed live via our YouTube channel on Tuesday evening. Be sure to subscribe to get notice of future live episodes.

If you’re a traditional type, you can acquire the mp3 audio version via this link on the first player below, or take in the full visual experience via the second player below.

Also, this week we are publishing a series of videos looking in detail at each of the Scoutcast regulars’ current Gameweek 1 line-ups.

Feel like Man City will have ball more and create some chances. But I can also see some nice countering link up to release Auba on a deadly counter attack.

Take ur pick, I got both

No more spoonfeeding. Predict lineups yourself. It’s part of the game.

      1. fedolefan
        • 11 Years
        7 years, 10 months ago

And you don't use any resource available to get ahead? It's part of the game too.

        1. Cok3y5murf
          • 9 Years
          7 years, 10 months ago

What resources are you referring to? FFS, discussions, looking at data is fine because you’re still making your own decisions in the end and you’re the one doing the ‘predicting’.

But giving away lineups means you have no predicting to do. It’s already there. You just take it and set your team up accordingly. Spoonfeeding.

Our deadlines are an hour before kickoff because the lineups are for us to predict. The leak was taking that out of the game.

Why do you overthink things so much? It was just a casual comment that'll resolve a dilemma in my team. You really need to lighten up.

              • 9 Years
              7 years, 10 months ago

Lol I wasn’t. I’ve had this argument with others a few times, so these points I made are kind of memorized in my mind. I’ve typed them before. You asked how it was different from using other resources, so I explained 🙂

I don't know but if someone looks through every so-called source on twitter to get an added advantage, good luck to them, they deserve that luck, they put in the time. I'd rather save that time doing something else. I don't really think too much about whether this is in the spirit of the game or not.

It's like stats for me. I don't do any stats. I just go by highlights or fixtures or eye tests. But if someone wants to look at stats to understand who spends most of the time in the box, who's taken 30 shots compared to 5, then good luck to them.

Jota. But I’ve been swapping him with Richarlison all week. Jota coz there’s a lot of hype around Wolves and could end up a season keeper. Richarlison was poor the second half of last season and Everton have been poor pre-season. Moura feels like a transfer waiting to happen.

I don't think I'm going for template. I actually have currently mendy with kun and auba up front. I just found that both my keeper (fabianski) and arni both with tough fixtures. So i wanted a proven striker until i can see who is the best 7.0m option. So i thought of sacrificing mendy to Firminho

          Get Ederson and Firmino?

I think tripling up on Liv and City is the way to go.

I'll get definitely 5 from both. Won't afford the 6th by having auba as well

Real Important Question. How do I change my Avatar picture on here?

Also does anyone have any experience playing on Fantrax?

Pretty set on playing 442 with Ralls from Cardiff as my 4th mid (P37 G7 A4) - Penalty taker and on majority of set pieces.

    Who's your risky 11th player?

100% agree on Rallsy. I'm also intrigued by a more advanced Will Hughes @ 0.5% ownership and 5m..

That Watford team is a strange one, gotta imagine Hughes will play more advanced with Richarlison gone though. Even Costa at Wolves intrigues me, but I can't swerve from a definite penalty taker.

Interesting, 6.0 isn't too much of a risk but with his injury record I s'pose he is. I'd back him to do well if he stays fit.

Is 6.0 the least you have spent on any attacking player?

I prefer Neves over Ralls but he was also on my radar. Neves is on set pieces and I think Cardiff will struggle this season.

My risky 11th player I suppose is Shaw.

Strangely it's Costa (5.0) at Wolves that intrigues me, even with Traore coming in I think he's the one to keep an eye on. Worried Neves won't be on penalties now?

Sarri seems to like him. Just worry about his playing time with Kante & Jorginho

He really does. I think Barkley will still play with both Kante and Jorginho sitting behind him. In a 4-3-3 i see their front 6 as this:

          Kante #8 - Jorg #6
          Barkley #10
          Willian - Morata - Haz

Sarri was worried about barkley's defensive work, but I think he needs some time to adjust to his role and Kante will help alleviate the defensive side.

I thought about Ralls but I think Cardiff are unbelievably weak. There are far better 5.0 options at Wolves, but they're bringing in so much quality there's too much risk of rotation, so my 5th mid is Cairney, who should be nailed.

You asked about 4th mid though; I'm going 4-5 across the middle so 4th is an expensive punt. I've got both Miliv and Jota at 6.5m.

I know this is a reply fail but I agree on Wolves. Apart from Jota I am unsure of who to go. My 5th is actually Murphy from Cardiff.

You've got the Chelsea line-up right, imo.
Barkley should be competing with RLC, unless Sarri brings in a TDD superstar, which is being mooted. We'll know tonight.

Sarri wants Barkley to be his Hamsik, that's the way I see it. Will love to see him play once Haz, Willian & Kante are all playing too. Could be an assist machine.

Shaw or Boly? (or any other suggestions at 5.0 or less are welcome 🙂 )
My other defenders + GKs are:
    Foster (Fabianski)
    Robertson - Mendy - ??? (Dunk, Wan-Bissaka)

Probably. It might come down to whether Son plays GW1 before immediately jetting off. But Lamela is out and Alli not played pre-season so I'd say 90% yes.

All 13 of my outfield players were from top 6 until a couple of days ago, but I've persuaded myself that Palace have loads of bargains to fill my bench and step up when needed and that Wolves have something special about them, whilst United, Arsenal, Chelsea and Spurs have teething issues and are best left for the first few weeks (Auba excepted). Still have 3xCity, 3xPool.
