The Fantasy Football Scout Community have been dealing with the fallout from Gameweek 1 this week, with everything covered from early price changes to Kevin De Bruyne’s knee injury.

As well as the usual array of superb discussions in the comments this week, there have been some welcome article and table submissions that can help with our planning for Gameweek 2 and beyond.

Our latest Community Round-up feature has it all covered.

The Hottest Topics

Our community’s dissection of Gameweek 1 began with detailed analyses of three of the weekend’s fixtures, with maltasi, Bruce Lee and Parm offering some real insight into the Watford v Brighton, Bournemouth v Cardiff and Fulham v Crystal Palace fixtures respectively.

Richarlison had his owners worried after limping from the field in Everton’s 2-2 draw with Wolves, but facer reassured us with what turned out be a spot-on appraisal of the Brazilian’s injury.

With the start of a new season came the return of our regular What Have We Learned? and Rough with the Smooth topics, the latter of which featured RedLightning‘s early ascent to the top of the Mods and Cons league.

The Gameweek 1 picks of 15 Hall of Famers were the subject of rent_boy‘s FPL player analysis, meanwhile.

Eden Wizard was the winner of our Scout Pick Community Lottery for Gameweek 2, as attention turned to this forthcoming weekend.

The Community discussed the pros and cons of gambling on an early transfer, while G-Whizz rounded up the “Doosra stats”, fixture odds and clean sheet odds to help with our planning.

The repercussions of Kevin De Bruyne’s knee injury sparked debate, with Parm providing a deeper analysis of Manchester City’s tactical tweaks in the 2-0 win over Arsenal. Becks also gave us his predictions on what City’s line-up may look like this Sunday in De Bruyne’s absence.

ZoumasBloomers asked us for our favourite FPL goal of all time – as well as the goal that has hurt you the most.

DJDave1979 pondered if some premium defenders were season-keepers, while the indefatigable TorresMagic was back to round up the early price rises and drops. Cheers, TM!

COMMUNITY TABLES

There are numerous user-generated tables to pore over this week:

COMMUNITY ARTICLES

We have had some brilliant articles submitted this week, which all proved to be an enjoyable read. TopMarx provided some excellent research into what constitutes a successful season in FPL  looking at how the increase in managers and quantity of players using different websites for advice have both changed the parameters somewhat.

We continued our series of RMTs by having a look at RedLightning’s team for Gameweek 2  while MathewNixon treated us to part two of Everton’s Silva Lining.

COMMUNITY TOURNAMENTS

There was a fast start in FFS Mods and Cons for RedLightning, with TorresMagic and Ragabolly off to flyers too. Deputy editor Skonto Rigga is also currently in the top five after Gameweek 1, narrowly ahead of our very own Joe:

1. RedLightning – 104 points
2. TorresMagic – 98 points
3. Ragabolly – 91 points
4. Skonto Rigga – 90 points
5. Joe – 89 points

Meanwhile, a Bench Boost has fired Vladimir Jelenić to the summit of the public FantasyFootballScout league:

1. Vladimir Jelenić – 133 points
2. Warren Lim – 131 points
3. Ben Wheatcroft – 129 points
4. Andy Davies – 122 points
5. Petri Selkäinaho – 119 points

In our Members’ league, Nick Howard also deployed his Bench Boost chip to great effect:

1. Nick Howard – 129 points
2. Alistair Ross – 118 points
3. Takeshi Igomoto – 117 points
4. Timothy Wright – 112 points
5=. Rickhard Alen/Luke Aiello/Aron Hogni Georgsson – 111 points

I'm playing King so prefer not to play Fab, think King can do well
Also, Burnley played 120 mins yesterday and not a strong attacking side, I'm going with Foster, I see low score there

Regarding Aguero, taking a chance there, got Salah & Mane so could survive Kun cameo in the world case scenario

What team did you roll out with? We were on a similar approach preseason. I tweaked a bit last min on news of KDBs availability (which did not work out great). Ended up taking -8.

        1. ★Kuntheman★
          • 10 Years
          8 years, 10 days ago

          I rolled with:

          Foster (Hamer)
          Mendy Luiz Shaw (Wan-Bissaka, Peltier)
Salah De Bruyne Jota Hudson-Odoi (Chalobah)
          Aguero Aubameyang King

WB off the bench was clutch. No Robertson+Mane+Richarlison did big time damage, and the KDB injury made things worse. Activated WC

That’s a good squad. Main ML rival went Kun/Auba front (which has me terrified, as I went Auba/Arnie). I did:

            Foster (Hamer)
            Robertson - Mendy - TAA - Tomkins - WB
Salah - Erik - KDB - Jota (Stephens)
            Auba - Arnie (Kamara)

Always planned to move Tomkins to a rotatable def if WB looked nailed, so I did that move, the shipped Jota for Rich (blocking rivals from getting Rich under ML rules) before KDB injury.

KDB thing was unhelpful, but otherwise fee ok about team.

Solid moves. Balanced team, I like it. I’m on:

              Hart (Hamer)
              Mendy Robertson Shaw (Wan-Bissaka, Peltier)
              Salah Mane Bernardo Richarlison Fraser
              Aguero Vardy (Kamara)

              Eyes on either Aguero>Auba or Richarlison>Chalobah, Vardy>Auba.

I like it. I can’t get Mane in my ML (even if i dropped TAA), so brought in Bilva for KDB. May use the funds to do Arnie to Vardy in coming weeks.

I’ve switched captaincy between Salah, Aguero, and Mendy a hundred times this week. Here’s my two cents on Aguero. A reporter who knows him very well retweeted an article saying he could be benched for Jesus, which makes it seem likely that it could happen. The article comes from a really crappy source though. I could see him being benched, if not this week, eventually. But the reason he’s in my team is because Pep is big on form. If Aguero scores he’s likely to get the next game. As a result I’m hesitant to captain him for this game, but I know a good performance puts him on the table for the next week. And generally he will get more starts than jesus anyway. So I’m on Salah at the moment, as it’s a little too early to have a captain fail that hard. But I could be tempted...

All he retweeted was that Pep is CONSIDERING dropping Aguero for Jesus, but isn't this a given? Pep always considers things.

Yeah I'm on Salah too. It's too early for risks, and Aguero's place this week seems to be a major doubt.

It's not like Salah has a nightmare fixture himself or anything, even if Aguero starts he could make the point difference very close.

I would have thought that Pep considers form to mean more than scoring goals... E.g. playing well?

I am still going Aguero, the reward outweights the risks. If Aguero explodes you will regret not captaining. Salah is less likely to do so against a solid palace defence

Right, but he might also have eggs on toast. If he decides to eat oatmeal instead without even the smallest indication that he would do so, you’d have a right to be thrown off. When there’s an indication there’s a likelihood that it happens. You can’t just disregard it.

Is Sterling going under the radar FPL wise or do you think he's unlikely to start. He should be pretty nailed based on what you were saying about Pep's performance based selection?

He’s definitely going under the radar but I can’t warrant spending 11m for someone I could get an alternative to for 7.5. Sterling fits into every Pep formation. He’ll play a big part this season

See above comment^^^ it’s just fear of Salah putting me off Mendy, he’s a very obvious choice with the way he’s playing. History isn’t always an indicator of the future.

Agreed. The argument for/against Kun is clear, the argument for Salah (to myself) I think is that CP at home may help bring in points, as they will likely play more offensive than if they were at Anfield.

One goal conceded in their last five Premier League games. Very settled backline (played all of pre-season together and the back end of last season)

Look at the last 10 or so games last season too. Woy as a manager is generally pretty good defensively too

Hi all.....I'm out of the country at moment - pretty much detached with football and fpl.

Just catching up on this guardian kun story.

Is there anyone who has taken the armband off kun as a result of this?

Pretty unsure what to do. When I wake up deadline will have passed so need to decide tonight.

Is kun worth the risk? Or move to salah or even richarlison?

    Thanks

On Kun for now, but will be checking for news in the morning. Can't see anything in the article that suggests a basis in fact. Rotation always a factor but 'dropping' Kun seems unlikely.

The transfer could work out but you've got a good player at home to a promoted side already so it's sideways at best. No need to over-complicate this game 🙂

Long-term, yes. For this weekend, probably not.

But Maddison is class and will be in plenty of our teams sooner rather than later.

Fulham are so bad in defence, plus they won't park the bus so there will be space for Eriksen. He has 4 assists in 2 matches against them.

He was injured. That's why they got Hart. Pope out for most of season after surgery for dislocated shoulder

"Pope, who has also now dislocated a shoulder, could be out for as long as Heaton was last season. Dyche has been reluctant to provide any sense of how serious the injury is or how long the 26-year-old is likely to be out. Heaton is also currently out with a calf injury.

Hart, who will wear to No 20 jersey after a move which ends his 12-year association with City, is likely to become a back-up option when Heaton returns."
