Fantasy Premier League managers are encouraged to factor the Gameweek 3 set piece match-ups in their transfer plans in the next few days.

In the second of a new series of Members articles we assess once again where set play situations can be exploited.

Where this differs from the Set Pieces tab is that we have added extra detail on how many of each set piece has been taken so far, which players have had the most attempts from set-plays in terms of goal efforts, as well as how like teams are to receive or give away free kicks or penalties.

That way, by comparing each team’s overall set piece data to find any mismatches, individuals expected to benefit from these situations will become clearer.

We ran similar articles during the World Cup and found them to helpful to Fantasy managers, hence why we have decided to bring them to FPL.

Obviously we only have two rounds of data so far so it may difficult to find too many over-arching trends right now, but we’ll be building on this template every week for Members to use when making their transfers or deciding on team selection.

Any differences between the takers here and on the set-pieces tab are purely because that individual is not available in Gameweek 3.

Downgrading DDG, so I can afford Mhikitaryan.

    A. Hennessy (means double PAL defence)
    B. Foster (means double WAT defence)

I'm in the same boat. I think Moura to Mhki is the right move considering the price rise tonight and fixtures. If he performs we're looking at a double rise next week. As bad a United have been I don't see more than 1 goal or assist for Moura at best, whereas Mhiki has a much higher ceiling.

            Pedro is too rotation prone.

      Ederson
      Robertson, Coleman, Shaw
      Salah, Siggy, Mane, Richarlison
      Zaha, King, Aguero
      Hamer, Cook, Ward, Wan-Bissaka

      Jota (6.4), Baily (5.5) —> Mkhi (7.0), Schlupp (4.5)

      No brainier this one?

Bailey has been dreadful, Jota was a first half sub. Mkhi rising tonight and Schlupp playing out of position.

Literally just posted above asking about Pedro but now wondering if I should go for Alonso instead?

They are the same price, with Alonso arguably more nailed, on some set pieces, higher ownership and seemingly higher points ceiling with potential for goals, assists, clean sheets and more bonus points.

You can’t compare prices across positions as the 4.5m defenders are better than the 4.5m mids

        1. Hulk Smash
          • 10 Years
          7 years, 4 months ago

I think I can compare them as it would be either Pedro (6.6m) playing and a 4.5m defender on the bench, or Alonso (6.6m) playing and a 4.5m midfielder on the bench. Which would you personally prefer? My head is saying Alonso.

            Alonso for sure.

Fair enough, but the 4.5m defender would’ve been more valuable as a bench option, and you could’ve got a 4m defender to save cash if they’re just bench fodder.

Yeah I get what you are saying, there are 4.5m defenders that are genuinely decent whereas the midfielders at that price are generally garbage.

With Alonso I'd have 5 defenders and 3 forwards I would genuinely play , but with 2 fodder midfielders, which is very unpleasant to look at.

Yeah he will need to improve his finishing but I think it's pretty clear he will be getting more chances.

1 shot in the box from all of last season so hard not to get more chances than that haha

Hard to see him replicating Ramseys season but at 5.0 looks like he could provide excellent value

think I'm going to be extremely conservative and roll one of my 2FT's this week, means keeping Bailly, should I play him or Cedric (yes I started with Cedric)

Disagree with the scout cast about Bilva, can't see him playing rwb alot when they have Walker and deep lying midfielder will be Fernandinho or Gundogan

But it is the same with all assets at City, Bilva is as good as any and only 7.6

He's no Mahrez or Sterling, arguably overvalued in that set-up

Fernandinho is the DM, Gundogan in sthe Box to box and D Silva is the Playmaker

            Classic mf combo.

            B. SIlva competition from Sterling, Mahrez, Walker and D. Silva.

            D. SIlva seems best option with KdB out

Setting up as 433 is also an option with Mahrez and Steling

          Ederson
          Walker Laporte Stones Mendy
          Bilva Fernandinho Dilva
          Mahrez Aguero Sterling

I think Gundogan offers a bit more balance but that looks pretty legit, with Laporte on the left side of the cb pairing

Thinking Morata could be a good shout. Still a bit risky, but he could really thrive in this system and after scoring there. Thoughts?

I wanna see what happens when Eden starts and if perhaps Morata is the one who drops out. The three of Hazard, Willian and Pedro look a lot like Mertens, Insigne and Callejon.

Possibility for the wildcard later on down the line. He burnt so many of us we are all reluctant to go near. Also there is the possibility Hazard will do a Mertens so I would wait and see first.

          B- Hazard, Mikhi, Ings

            B looks better balanced
            A could be more explosive

            If you going for a strong 3 5 2 or 4 4 2 it's A.

A looks good only if you want to play 3-5-2 and have decent bench. I guess Kamara will be at most last year's Quaner so you need some proper back up from bech just in case.
