Fantasy Premier League managers are encouraged to factor the Gameweek 3 set piece match-ups in their transfer plans in the next few days.

In the second of a new series of Members articles we assess once again where set play situations can be exploited.

Where this differs from the Set Pieces tab is that we have added extra detail on how many of each set piece has been taken so far, which players have had the most attempts from set-plays in terms of goal efforts, as well as how like teams are to receive or give away free kicks or penalties.

That way, by comparing each team’s overall set piece data to find any mismatches, individuals expected to benefit from these situations will become clearer.

We ran similar articles during the World Cup and found them to helpful to Fantasy managers, hence why we have decided to bring them to FPL.

Obviously we only have two rounds of data so far so it may difficult to find too many over-arching trends right now, but we’ll be building on this template every week for Members to use when making their transfers or deciding on team selection.

Any differences between the takers here and on the set-pieces tab are purely because that individual is not available in Gameweek 3.

Is Bellerin an option to go with Mendy and Alonso??

Slight rotation risk with Lichtsteiner about. Bellerin was really poor defensively last game.

      Robertson a better pick.

I'd fancu Auba even more if he played on the left cause that would mean Laca plays and Arsenal looks way better with him on the pitch. Which again makes Auba more attractive.

I don't think you need to start taking risks till around GW25/30 and even then if you're really behind, not like 30/40 points.

From GW3 it crazy to go into "chasing" mode.

You really don't. It's a long season and you should just captain the player you feel has the best change of scoring big, if that player is Auba this week then go ahead.

Not sure it's a good week to go against Salah but could work out. As a Arsenal fan, this match against West Ham looks a tricky one now do after 2 defeats already.

They've had two really tough games under a new manager and now have the opportunity to make grounds against a defensively frail team.

Even though they lost against Chelsea they showed some real attacking flair at times so I'm predicting 2-3 goals for Arsenal in this one.

Feel like it’s a good week for a differential captain in an attempt to make up lost ground. Won’t catch anyone captaining the same player (ie Salah)

Yes you will, with the other 10 players. A lot of people have made this mistake season in season out, e.g. not captaining or having Suarez in your team because you're behind, only to go much further behind. I'm not against your decision itself, just the logic behind it.

Which of these midfielders should replace Schurrle:

    A) Fraser

    B) Pedro

    C) Maddison

    D) Other, who?

    6.9 max, so no Mkhitaryan.

I had already noticed this by watching the two games but even by looking at the stats is kind of dramatic how little Bernardo Silva has created.

The true Silva has created more chances in one game(actually in only 63 minutes) than Bernardo has in 180 minutes. Pretty sure he's going to be dropped by Pep very soon unless he turns it around.

I didn't say he played badly but he hasn't really created much for a creative player. When David was on the pitch it was a completely different thing.

Mkhitaryan has created more chances too and i have both him and Bernardo in my team.

Lol, when they were on the pitch at the same time Bernardo was wide with Mendy being the designated crosser overlapping him, and D. Silva was more central. Of course he wont get much creativity in that role. he clearly was intended to just keep the ball rolling.

Bilva is a class act but only scores one of every ten goals City score when he's on the pitch, and he has the same 1/10 ratio with assists. He's not a good FPL asset.

      1. Frank Black
        • 13 Years
        8 years, 20 days ago

Yeah, this. He plays very well with the others but he's not very involved in the most dangerous situations; it seems like he creates more chances for those who actually creates more concrete chances/assists.

Therefore not an amazing FPL option.

Wow you found some animosity. He stays don't compare too well with the other creatives in the team. Not sure if he'll be dropped on this basis as I think Pep has slightly tweaked his system this year without KDB and Sane. It looks like the full backs are creating more and the attacking play is flowing less centrally and through wingers. The defenders acting as wingers now.

It's not close. 5.0m for a starting Liverpool defender is a great deal. And they've looked very solid. Alisson is great.

Fair enough. Maybe I'm overthinking but unsure about solidity with tot, che, MCI in next 6.
PVA's fixtures to GW9 then LIV seems ideal.

Having read Ginkapo’s hot topic earlier, and a good selection of comments since then, I think it’s time to change my bookmark to this site straight to the members area. Not enough high quality discussion here to be worth checking in during the fairly limited time I have to visit. Not a knock against Geoff and co, just too many self-indulgent posters which, alongside the format, is discouraging genuine discussion.

I’m far too jaded by it to even tune in to the scoutcast tonight as that can be mostly repetitive nowadays. To be fair, I do particularly enjoy listening to Az’s insight so it’s a shame really.

I hear you, but like others have said in response to Ginkapo’s post, I don’t feel the comment format encourages discussion. I’ve made a new post knowing that it’s been a couple of hours since that hot topic saw any comments so anything I put there now will likely be missed.

As I alluded to before, there’s only a couple of short periods in the day I can visit so I usually go to the hot topics first, often hours after they were posted, and add a comment only to get no reply. Not even from the mods who made them. I’ve often found myself to be the last comment on hot topics.

        E.g. https://www.fantasyfootballscout.co.uk/comment/18635847

Why bother? For me, the problem is largely the format and how it favours the low quality poster so much more than it does the high quality one. I’m not the first to say it and I won’t be the last.

          I seem to have a 7 for long-serving stupidity.. I agree there's a lot of new people, but that's a good thing.
It will sort itself out as the season goes on, people lose interest..
I tried membership last year but gave up because I don't understand stats, or football really..
Personally I like the off-topic rants and bants .. I used to live in the DZ and that's the place to be..!
Good luck with the game and enjoy your year!

Fair play if that’s what you enjoy. But don’t you wish there was a specific place where you could find off topic stuff like that? You shouldn’t be limited to one time of day, like the dead zone, to enjoy the discussion you favour.

Thanks for your good luck message, same to you. We all enjoy fantasy football, and I guess this site too, for different reasons and that’s not a bad thing.

It should be a place for more profound discussions, that i do agree with you. But i guess it´s also wishful thinking when the game has been so large and thus making it more difficult to sustain a decent level in fora with that crowded. Anyway, what might be the reasons for this change could be more than just the format, to me it looks like craving for a more profound and deeplying discussions have to be founded upon both the format but also restrictions elsewhere (and i´m not sure wether those restrictions is actually any good). Speaking for myself, i´ve never posted a RMT or asked a question about a or b, but instead i have tried to answer as trutful and sincere as i can to others who asks for help, and in so doing i actually helping myself because by seeing others team and the thinking behind it, could in fact have implications for ones own team. Mostly i try to elaborate my answers, so very rarely do i just answer yes or no to the questions. I like to talk football in general and tactics and that also goes for FPL, you have to think tactically and strategic both places to gain a deeper understanding of the game(s), which in turn gives you (imo) more fun when watching. I would welcome a thread that is more directed towards the more deeplying discussions and topics, that´for sure. But we shall also try to invent this not just sit and wait, which hardly ever made any revolution-)

Hi there. I appreciate the effort you put in to your responses to questions. That’s the kind of thinking that is needed from more people. And thanks for taking the time to reply to me.

What I do really find a shame is that I don’t recall having ever seen one of your posts. That definitely isn’t your fault, and again makes me question the comment stream format. Good quality posts are getting lost on pages long gone by the time others visit.

Often I come on with a certain topic in mind to see what people are saying about it but it is so hard to find anything relevant amongst, to be frank, the other garbage. A better structure would allow us to find a group of posts on a certain topic much more easily.

I´m not the most frequent replier, and my experience in FPL is only 2 full seasons so still learning the game. As a scholar i am used to debating and also to look at things from different perspectives, and also to make decisions based on several strategies and factors in mind. From time to time tehre are smo discussions worth reading, but as you points out, not much. Often it kind od dies in the birth, and often it can be seen as sideeffects of an RMT, but not as an intended debate about playing FPL.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I seem to recall having read something about price rises.

Do price changes need proportionally more transfers, the further and further away a player's price is from the starting point?

Let's say player X started at 7m and has now lost 0.3m in a couple of weeks. Does it take more and more transfers for him to FALL further in price? and less and less transfers to move towards his starting price?

I hope it made sense and thank you in advance

    1. vova
      • 16 Years
      8 years, 20 days ago

It depends on the ownership I think. So the more owned a player is, the more transfers in/out are needed to change his price and vice versa.

      1. Licious Lizard
        • 13 Years
        8 years, 20 days ago
