Fantasy Premier League managers are encouraged to factor the Gameweek 3 set piece match-ups in their transfer plans in the next few days.

In the second of a new series of Members articles we assess once again where set play situations can be exploited.

Where this differs from the Set Pieces tab is that we have added extra detail on how many of each set piece has been taken so far, which players have had the most attempts from set-plays in terms of goal efforts, as well as how like teams are to receive or give away free kicks or penalties.

That way, by comparing each team’s overall set piece data to find any mismatches, individuals expected to benefit from these situations will become clearer.

We ran similar articles during the World Cup and found them to helpful to Fantasy managers, hence why we have decided to bring them to FPL.

Obviously we only have two rounds of data so far so it may difficult to find too many over-arching trends right now, but we’ll be building on this template every week for Members to use when making their transfers or deciding on team selection.

Any differences between the takers here and on the set-pieces tab are purely because that individual is not available in Gameweek 3.

Hello, Tornado, meet Pep’s wheeeeeel of rotation.

I actually think David Silva is/could be a good option, but he surely can’t be considered nailed...

I Think most people have 2-3 City already and are looking to get in on Chelsea/Arsenal assets instead of doing a hokey cokey between city’s flavour of the week picks

I think, especially given the fixtures the next few weeks, a 60 minute Silva (or Aguero) can do enough damage in that short period to be worth the perceived "risk." Assuming they continue to score bags of 'em for the next few GW anyway.

          Agreed.
In my case I already have 3 and I don’t think it’s worth the transfers + downgrade to fit him in.
But I can see why others with the funds and 2 city players would opt for him.
Time will tell, but his PPM could be excellent with those fixtures - even only playing 60 mins as you say

Did he play Huddersfield as it was an easy game and out of emotion over his baby son and Mahrez will be back next week? Probably not fully, but he’s getting older and is as much of a rotation risk as any city mid

Very good A+ you're going for Salah C over Aguero? I was going Salah but most of my league rivals will do Aguero C and don't have Salah Mane combo so I think I should cover Aguero again

Thanks. I've decided to go with the home option out of Salah and Aguero for the next few. If you're focused on your mini league then Aguero captain for you makes sense. Best of luck for GW3!

imo I would forget spurs for a few weeks , look at mendy/robbbo/Alonso instead of bavies, and any of miki/haz/auba will be good picks, depending on finances and balance of your team, maybe Alonso/auba or mendy/haz might be good combos

Do you think Ings nailed or at least good options. Have 2ft and might do King to Ings.

    1. Ruth_NZ
      • 10 Years

I did that move yesterday. Ings should be a 6.0/6.5m forward, even playing for a lower mid-table team.

      We have no good strikers.

If Ings can stay fit, and that's a big if. I genuinely think he's nailed and will get 15+ goals this year.

      That or we'll be relegated...

Don't do it. Remember that you picked Bilva for a reason. He's a starting midfielder in the best team in the league and he has wlv NEW FUL next.

Mkhi is a good pick but find some other way of getting him rather than the easy short-term switch. Next week, if they both blank (or score) you'll be looking at Mkhi's car new vs Bilva's NEW FUL

Look at the heat maps. https://www.whoscored.com/Matches/1284758/Preview/England-Premier-League-2018-2019-Manchester-City-Huddersfield

Doesn't really seem that far back. And then he also moved into CAM for the last half hour or so after subs were made and got a golden chance that was saved. It might be that the first hour he doesn't do much, but if he gets shifted in the last half hour, he can really get amongst the points.

No, still in three behind Aguero but with Dilva back in the middle he was shunted out wide where he spent most of last season at threat of rotation from Sterling and now add Mahrez to that. He did go back in the middle once Dilva was subbed.

the reason I personally picked him was because he was a starting midfielder until David Silva was back fit. Now he's just on the pile of will he/won't he play City mids I'm afraid

Im thinking about benching David Luiz for next week against Newcastle because I believe Tripp can get some attacking returns. Any suggestions who to bench instead? Been burned for leaving 39 points on the bench in gw1 and benching Mitro in gw2.

    Kepa
    VVD, Trippier, Mendy
    Salah(c), Mahrez, Richarlison, Fraser
    Mitrovic, Aguero, King

Shipping King and Mahrez the week after for Hazard and Kamara.

You could say the same about Auba, who's being sold now that the fixtures actually look appealing. I know we all want to catch the rises and avoid drops, but sometimes it's better to just ignore what's happening with player prices.

If your team contains Alonso, Robertson, Mendy, salah, mane, aguero, richarlison and mkhitaryan, everyone will say good team...

If it doesn't, they'll tell you to put those players in.

I can't wait for Bilva to score this week. All these people doing Bilva > Mkhi. I still think it's a bad move. A very assured midfield starter in a City team against wlv NEW FUL is crazy to take out. Mkhi has WHU car new which is worse.

I do think Mkhi is a good pick on the season too, but not for Bilva.

Agreed. If you're taking out, say, Eriksen or Sanchez for Mkhi it's a no brainer but I wouldn't take Bilva out.

People are knee-jerking because he blanked in a 6-goal game, forgetting that it doesn't mean he blanks next time out.

if everton and leicester managed to put 2 past wolves expect city to scored 3 or more.

With Aguero being the focal point of city and being sharper than ever i think his points Ceiling is higher than Salah.

Points will be shared amongst Mane,Salah Firmino etc. Thoughts?

Cant see him getting benched after peps comments

"Since I've been here, I've never seen him like this," he told Sky Sports. "The spirit since he came back from the holidays after the World Cup... he is in incredible condition

With the ball and without the ball, he is sharp and intelligent and, of course, his talent to score goals is always there.

"The pass was so good, but the finishing is outstanding.

"I thought to take him off before the hat-trick, but it was perfect. He scored a goal, he got a standing ovation and he can take energy into the next games."

            Exactly, thanks for sharing this.

I panicked and took the armband off him last week. Not falling for that BS again.

And with KDB out, Kun is potentially the most influential player on the pitch for City, and the back of a hatty, can't see Pep benching him.

Football doesn't really work like that. And Wolves have some players that will be keen to prove they can compete with the best still - Moutinho etc. I doubt they'll get hammered as bad as HUD. And they're at home. Never underestimate home field advantage.

Do you realise playing away to a minnow team that wants to come out and attack could result in loads of goals?

They might not get hammered 6-1 but some sort of battering is still on the cards.

        1. Wolves are at home and are actually a decent team, the score against didnt tell the whole story.
        2. Man city also share their goals around big time, even more so than Liverpool.
        3. Kun played really well, but he got that assist out of nothing and a lucky keeper mistake goal. If he had only scored a brace (13 points) would people really be jizzing over him that much?
        4. Liverpool beat brighton 4-0 and 5-1 last year. Dunk is missing and will affect the CB partnership massively. Man City vs Wolves last year was 0-0 (Albeit a cup game)
        5. Aguero could always be benched.

        1. HurriKane
          • 13 Years

brighton will put 10 men behind the ball.

meanwhile wolves being at home could play into city hands. they'll be eager to attack due to crowd and will get caught on the counter

Lol city will have 70% possession. Wolves will be camped in their own half most the game too.

Their manager isnt an idiot either and he will set them up to defend deep and counter

The points was shared between those 3 last season too and that worked out well for Salah!
I went Salah last GW and turned out Aguero at home was the better pick so sticking to Salah this week instead of chasing more Aguero pts and if he gets rotated at some point it will be away from home!

I don't think you need to start taking risks till around GW25/30 and even then if you're really behind, not like 30/40 points.

From GW3 it crazy to go into "chasing" mode.

You really don't. It's a long season and you should just captain the player you feel has the best change of scoring big, if that player is Auba this week then go ahead.

They've had two really tough games under a new manager and now have the opportunity to make grounds against a defensively frail team.

Even though they lost against Chelsea they showed some real attacking flair at times so I'm predicting 2-3 goals for Arsenal in this one.

Feel like it’s a good week for a differential captain in an attempt to make up lost ground. Won’t catch anyone captaining the same player (ie Salah)

Yes you will, with the other 10 players. A lot of people have made this mistake season in season out, e.g. not captaining or having Suarez in your team because you're behind, only to go much further behind. I'm not against your decision itself, just the logic behind it.

@Oldben The differential early on is not taking hits. I should know- can't resist!

      Play:
      A) Hamer - CAR (H)

      B) Pickford - BOU (A)

Is there anyone I should consider bringing in for Eriksen? I don't trust any of the City midfielders yet (although D. Silva would be great if I know he'd get consistent starts), Mkhi isn't really doing it for me either (I'd prefer Ramsey if I had to go with someone from Arsenal) and I don't see Pedro being nailed., while Pogba is just meh. I've already got Salah, Mane, Richarlison, Fraser as my other midfielders. Pretty certain I'll stick, but is there anyone I'm missing out on?

David Silva should be relatively safe for a few weeks anyway

You're fairly overweight in midfield. Other than Hazard, I'd be looking to reallocate funds.

I consciously started the season with a strong midfield in a 3-5-2 and have done really well over the first two game weeks, so I'm not going to start restructuring the team just yet. I'm just a bit uncertain about Eriksen since his upcoming fixtures aren't great.

Only name missing is Hazard if you have an extra 1M but not guaranteed a start yet.

This is the exact move I'm doing as soon as I'm confident Hazard will start. Will be monitoring Sarri's press conference closely this week!

Yeah, Hazard would be a perfect option....I'd have to find the 1.0M from elsewhere though - probably a downgrade in defence.

Have the same dilema as I'm unhappy to lose value on him. Sadly, I do not see anyone exceptional in his price bracket, so will give him another chance. Iconsidefed him as season long pick (especially when KDB os out), after all.

*Salahless* but I have Mane and Firmino
I want to get Alonso IN, so In order to do that I have to do this:
      Firmino -> Ings/Mitrovic
      4.5m DEF -> Alonso
Is It really worth It considering I will only have Mane from LIV?

Not worth a hit so I'm on a watching brief and hoping Pellers turns West Ham into a tough opponent. Gulp.

I'd fit Mkhi or Auba in if I could - but can't have them all.
