The Captain Poll is now open for votes ahead of Gameweek 3 and you can watch our video on the best candidates for the armband below or on our YouTube channel.

The early favourite is, not surprisingly, Mohamed Salah (£13.0m) who faces a very appealing home match against a Brighton side, who are notoriously poor on the road.

The Seagulls shipped nine goals in two league matches against Liverpool in 2017/18, four of them at Anfield in Gameweek 38. The Egyptian netted in that match and provided the assist for Dominic Solanke’s (£5.0m) 53rd minute goal too.

His case is, of course, strengthened by being Liverpool’s biggest goal threat against Crystal Palace on Monday night, even if he only managed two assists in the end.

Sadio Mané (£9.8m), owned by 31 percent, should prove a strong alternative candidate bearing in mind he is a must-have option for the 45 percent of Fantasy managers who do not own Salah, and remains ahead of him for both goal tally and FPL total score.

Either way, Liverpool assets are expected to dominate the captaincy debate this week considering that West Ham were the only top flight side to survive relegation in 2017/18 with more shots conceded on the road than Brighton.

Sergio Aguero‘s (£11.1m) hat-trick against Huddersfield on Sunday will naturally give him some backing for the captaincy this week, as Manchester City prepare to travel to the Molineux.

Wolves may have allowed fewer shots on their goal than any other side so far, but the fact that have still conceded four goals in two matches suggests there are areas to exploit for the reigning champions.

Aguero might be at slightly more risk of rotation this weekend but we will, as per usual, wait and see what emerges in the press conferences later this week.

After four assists in just two matches, the highly-owned Benjamin Mendy (£6.1m) is an option for a second week running. In fact, he finished third in the poll behind just Aguero and Salah for Gameweek 2.

After West Ham’s performance at Anfield in Gameweek 1 and a defeat at home to Bournemouth in Gameweek 3, Arsenal assets might also be worth looking at. The favourites there are expected to be Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang (£11.0m) and Henrikh Mkhitaryan (£7.0m).

Meanwhile, Manchester United and Tottenham Hotspur’s meeting at Old Trafford reduces the appeal of a few usual suspects, namely Paul Pogba (£8.1m), Romelu Lukaku (£11.0m) and Alexis Sánchez (£10.5m) for the Red Devils and Harry Kane (£12.5m) and Christian Eriksen (£9.5m) from the north London outfit.

What to do with Josh King ? No returns in two weeks despite good pre season form, worth £6.4 in my team (with 1.5m ITB) so I can't upgrade to Zaha (I do have Arnie in my team though) - any good budget options coming through sub 7m? They will be in the XI each week, not looking for a punty bench option

I downgraded to Ings so I could upgrade Davies to Alonso and Jota to Mkhi.

For £5.5m I'm not expecting much and will probably keep rotating cheap strikers into that slot based on form every now and again.

It seems a lot of people on here are sacrificing Bilva to accommodate a Pedro/Alonso/Fraser/ etc.
I think Bilva offers great value. Albeit being played out of position against Huddersfield, it in the community shield and Arsenal game he was one of the best players on the pitch! Away from home Pep will play him more advanced
He may take up a Man City slot, but for his price he’s worth it.

Exactly my thoughts. Even in the last match he had a really good chance late on.Again, at his price he is quite good. I do agree though that there are a lot of options in the mid price midfield bracket who are performing. But he will get points for sure.

It's just early season points chasing and catching price rises. If i had Bilva I'd be keeping him.

Hi, posted this in the old article. Would really like comments as I didn't watch most of the matches. Only the Liverpool one (supporter)

Who is the list of players that wont continue to do well even though they scored high in gameweeks 1 and 2. And why.

    My list

Pogba - 2 penalties nothing else. Doesnt look like continuing his fpl performance.
Etheridge - 2 out of 2 penalty saves. You cant make this up!
Sclupp - will probably lose his place in the team.

Got doubts about others. But so far these are on the list.
    Thiughts? Any others?

    1. Demel
      • 14 Years

I disagree with the first 2 completely.

Pogba's PPG was very high last season. He doesn't appear to do a lot but gets constant points (just don't expect a haul). He is the modern day Yaya Toure.

Cardiff will be solid defensively (but limited going forward) Etheridge will keep clean sheets and accumulate save points. If their back up had been 4m i would have had that pair over the Brighton pair pre-season.

Fair enough on Pogba. He did get a lot of assists last season. I guess it slso depends a bit on how muach Man U are attacking and scoring compared to last season.

86 then 83. Only things I consider mistakes I could have avoided and get 100 every week are going for Davies alongside robbo and mendy rather than shaw or other premium defender like alonso. And then not having Mane because I did not want to take 2 midfield spots using 2 liverpool players...

Any thoughts on what next for this team? Apart from 'get Salah'. Got 181 points so far, 43k OR.

    Alisson
    Mendy / Robertson / Sakho
    Mane / Ozil / Eriksen / BSilva
    Aguero / Zaha / Arnie

    Steklenburg / Jorginho / Boly / AWB

    1FT, £0 ITB

    A) Hold, monitor Ozil and Eriksen (I think both will come good) for 1 more GW and use 2 FT next week to move to maybe Hazard
    B) Ozil to Pogba
    C) B Silva to Richarlison / Sigurdsson / Maddison
    D) Jorginho to Brooks / Hughes / another 5.0
    E) GTG and nothing needed

Thanks guys. Can't help but feel Richarlison will tail off like last year. B Silva could be at risk and I'm tempted by Sigurdsson's underlying stats.

Think I'll stick for now and the 2 FT next week will give me more options as well as giving the blankers an extra week - particularly Ozil.

    Aguero - Auba - King

Not keen on Pickford in a Marco Silva team. Any money ITB? If so I'd upgrade to Alisson (given you can't have Ederson). Otherwise get in a keeper with better CS/save potential. I'd consider Hennessey.

Maybe I should! Shaw seems the obvious choice, but then again its the kind of game Mourinho will have Utd set up for, and bounce back from the Brighton game.

Looking at bringing in either Tomkins or Schlupp this week. I'd prefer the latter considering he is playing out of postion, but concerned by some talk last week that he could end up losing his starting place when the Squad is fully fit and available?

Any Palace heads here know what the likelihood is?

      At risk from Meyer.

Ah that was it, thanks. Tomkins the safer pick until at least the end of October then?

Why is Alonso a rotation risk? And is Bilva likely to keep starting? Don't want to kneejerk him out, as I think he will be prove to be good value if he keeps playing.

I wouldn't say Alonso is a rotation risk. There is strong criticism of his defensive inabilities which showed against Arsenal and this has created rumours that Sarri may prefer Emerson against tougher opposition in the future.

This still may well not happen at all but just something to monitor, especially when Europa League gets underway.

I would say Pep very much loves Bilva and is most probably one of the more nailed Midfielders at this time, backed up even more so for De Bruyne's injury.

Thanks a lot mate, very helpful. I would've thought he'd pick Emerson for Europa though? Surely it's not a priority as a tournament for Chelsea. In response to your Palace question, I believe Tompkins is more or less nailed and he offers set piece goal threat.

You’re welcome. I also agree with you that it’s more than likely Emerson’s role lies in the Europa League games primarily.

Thanks again for Palace comment. Tomkins it is 🙂

Got Alonso in just before the price rise, and now only have Bennett playing on the bench following AWB's red, so I'm praying he keeps playing haha.

    0Ft and a whopping 3.9m itb. Suggestions?

    Foster -- Patricio
Mendy Robbo Shaw -- Peltier Awb
Salah Richarlison Mkhi Pedro -- Stephens
    Zaha Kun King

could have easily afforded Mane but didnt fancy pool fixtures after this gw (big sofa needed for this gw).

    A: Stick with this
    B: King >> anyone upto 10.3 (-4)
C: Peltier >> Alonso (-4)..Esp if shaw is ruled out or do it regardless and bench either shaw/king

Save, you have a perfectly good team for this GW with the 2 main captaincy options.

GTG? Worth starting Peltier over Kamara?

    DDG
    Alonso, Robertson, Mendy
    Salah, Mane, B.Silva, Richarlison
    Aguero, Zaha, Kamara

    (Stek, Peltier, Stephens, AWB)

Probably looking at DDG & B.Silva -> Ederson & Mkhi next week - not worth a hit for this GW right?

    Cheers

Kamara 2 points at best so I would start Peltier

"Real Madrid believe Alonso could play in the heart of the back line and would also serve as a back-up for Marcelo following the loan of Theo Hernandez to Real Sociedad". ESPN quotes.

    Strange at best.

That's sheer incompetency from their Journalists to write up these bollocks.

              Agree
Although maybe Real wouldn't want to their pitch to him be "a backup to Marcelo" only (assuming the Journalists ate it raw due to their incompetence) ^
"Hey Alonso, come sit on the bench for us most of the time".

    Is my bench too weak?

    Foster
    Mendy Robbi Shaw
    Salah Mane Bsilva Pedro Mkhi
    Kun Zaha

    Fab Kamara Bennett AWB

Trades to make this happen were King, Stephens, Tomkins > Mkhi, Bennett, Kamara
