The Captain Poll is now open for votes ahead of Gameweek 3 and you can watch our video on the best candidates for the armband below or on our YouTube channel.

The early favourite is, not surprisingly, Mohamed Salah (£13.0m) who faces a very appealing home match against a Brighton side, who are notoriously poor on the road.

The Seagulls shipped nine goals in two league matches against Liverpool in 2017/18, four of them at Anfield in Gameweek 38. The Egyptian netted in that match and provided the assist for Dominic Solanke’s (£5.0m) 53rd minute goal too.

His case is, of course, strengthened by being Liverpool’s biggest goal threat against Crystal Palace on Monday night, even if he only managed two assists in the end.

Sadio Mané (£9.8m), owned by 31 percent, should prove a strong alternative candidate bearing in mind he is a must-have option for the 45 percent of Fantasy managers who do not own Salah, and remains ahead of him for both goal tally and FPL total score.

Either way, Liverpool assets are expected to dominate the captaincy debate this week considering that West Ham were the only top flight side to survive relegation in 2017/18 with more shots conceded on the road than Brighton.

Sergio Aguero‘s (£11.1m) hat-trick against Huddersfield on Sunday will naturally give him some backing for the captaincy this week, as Manchester City prepare to travel to the Molineux.

Wolves may have allowed fewer shots on their goal than any other side so far, but the fact that have still conceded four goals in two matches suggests there are areas to exploit for the reigning champions.

Aguero might be at slightly more risk of rotation this weekend but we will, as per usual, wait and see what emerges in the press conferences later this week.

After four assists in just two matches, the highly-owned Benjamin Mendy (£6.1m) is an option for a second week running. In fact, he finished third in the poll behind just Aguero and Salah for Gameweek 2.

After West Ham’s performance at Anfield in Gameweek 1 and a defeat at home to Bournemouth in Gameweek 3, Arsenal assets might also be worth looking at. The favourites there are expected to be Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang (£11.0m) and Henrikh Mkhitaryan (£7.0m).

Meanwhile, Manchester United and Tottenham Hotspur’s meeting at Old Trafford reduces the appeal of a few usual suspects, namely Paul Pogba (£8.1m), Romelu Lukaku (£11.0m) and Alexis Sánchez (£10.5m) for the Red Devils and Harry Kane (£12.5m) and Christian Eriksen (£9.5m) from the north London outfit.

He was solid, and that challenge had to be made by someone or else Palace would've conceded. Hodgeson will continue playing him.

Think AWB will keep. Good article in last night's Evening Standard about how he first caught training coaches eye by keeping Zaha frustrated in training

Even though I had Aguero (c) last week I'll be on Salah this week. Salah's stats are still excellent, most shots for a mid I think. He is unlucky not to have done better so far. He's so consistent.

They've conceded 4 against.. not too impressive opposition, and have failed to score against 10 men for a long period of time. I expect them to struggle against City's current form.

this is just my hunch, but i see King scoring against Everton at home. my only rationale is that FPL has a habit of screwing people over and what with the mass sales of King this week, you just know that he;ll end up punishing those who sold (after two gameweeks!)

    Hello all
    Thoughts on this team ?

    Foster
    Robbo / Mendy / Alonso
Salah / Bernardo Silva / Lucas / Richarlison
    Aguero / Firmino / Kamara

    Fabianki / Schneiderlin / AWB / Peltier

    0FTS 1.0 itb

did Adam smith and King to Alonso and Kamara for free got Kamara in over ings so i have money in the bank to get Hazard or Auba next week, but with AWB red card and uncertainty over peltier schneiderlin and kamara what should i do to make sure i have 11 players this week.

schneiderlin to Kante ? or some other 5m starter ?

    1. Poppa Klopp
      • 8 Years
      8 years, 20 days ago

The Kante move is exactly what I did

Firmino should come good but the two games he’s played so far means you need to watch his stats, may be someone you need to drop

Also watch a Bilva - sterling will not stay benched for long

      1. ZimZalabim
        • 10 Years
        8 years, 20 days ago

the Kante move would be for a hit but i guess worth it as i may end up with only 10 players this week.

I plan to sell Firmino next week dont want to take any more hits than needed this week.

Plan is to do Firmino and Lucas/Bernardo to hazard and zaha or auba and maybe pedro or another mid upto 7

You might have 11 players anyway. What’s the worst that will happen if you don’t make the extra transfer? By doing it you’ll definitely lose 4 points. Seems pointless for the reason you’ve stated.

      1. ZimZalabim
        • 10 Years
        8 years, 20 days ago

I think ill probably wait till the press conferences and see if schneiderlin and peltier are fit to start. Kamara will get some game time im sure but might not start.

I had initially intended to wait till the pressers and get mikhi in for lucas but after the AWB red now not sure i do that. Getting a 5 million mid was part of my plan but I was probably going to do it in a week or two but that plan needed AWB as a starter for the next two weeks.

Feeling confused as to what the best play is, ur point does make sense its def losing 4 points probably for a player that only gets 2 and Kamara will probably give 1 point in any case.

I have Bednarek stinking up my team, and have therefore been monitoring his price today via FPL statistics. It actually looks like people are _buying_ him now (his delta is higher now than earlier today, and has been rising throughout the day). Madness.

    Should I prioritize:

    A) Jota > Mkhi/Bilva

    B) Bailly > Alonso

    C) Both, downgrade Arnie (-4), go 442

A lot of people on here seem to be adamant that 4 at the back (or 3 premiums as opposed to 2) is the way to go this season and whilst that may well be the case some of the reasoning given is flawed. The fact they are scoring more than a 6-6.5m mid (winger) scores is irrelevant.

The primary factor for 3 at the back is how many more points your 3rd premium asset is going to get compared to a rotating cheaper defender and then looking at how that extra 1.5-2m (assuming a 4.5 def instead) could be used elsewhere and what the difference in points would be there.

A premium defender might net on avg 160 points* whereas a 4.5m defender can net 100-110 points and rotating well you should easily be able to get 130 points. An extra 2m in attack is more difficult to calculate because on it's own it seems some-what insignificant but it can be the difference in being able to afford Salah or not (whilst still keeping other strong attacking options) - or having 2 premium forwards instead of 1 - and when it comes to having good captain options every week this can make a significant difference)

A lot of it therefore depends on how good the mid-priced forwards/midfielders and maybe even more so the budget ones are compared to the more expensive ones. A premium striker can net you 200ish+ points a season - and more if you factor in the extra points if they are your captain option on some GWs. Mid priced options might only get 140ish - but obv if rotating and transferring or an exceptionally good pick (Michu, Alli, Mahrez, Vardy in years gone by) you should gain a few more than that - so maybe 160 ignoring the bargains/outliers since the same can be true of defenders. That's a 40 point difference without considering the difference a better C decision might net you.

    * I forgot to mention rotation of wingbacks which can affect their total score but then you still gain points from your bench, so the avg might be closer to 170 in which case the point difference would be very similar.

In summary, even though premium defenders offer better VPM (value per million), you still have to consider the affect it can have on the rest of your team.

i'm making my call on formation on fixtures tbh. I looked at the start of the season & saw points/value at the back. agreed some cheap defenders scored well also but before a ball was kicked I trusted mid/premium defenders more than I trusted mid priced mids.

I know it'll change in a few fixtures time & I'll adapt to that then
